After many recommendations we decided to stop here for breakfast while in Summerville. Service was absolutely immaculate. The staff was very friendly. The establishment was extremely clean and they sat and served us very quickly. I got coffee from the coffee bar and it is absolutely divine and roasted in house. My partner was getting a little sniff so she got they bring you out this amazing assortment of tea to kick from which was quite cute. I got the grits, bacon eggs, and toast wasn't a real big fan of the grits but the bacon eggs and toast were fabulous. My partner got seafood platter and it was absolutely fine. Some of the best shrimp I've had in quite a while. But the star of this show was definitely their housemate waffles, when I say they were light buttery crispy on the outside soft and fluffy in the inside perfection! The overall aesthetics are okay, a bit dated. It is a stand alone building, meaning not in a stip mall, with its own parking lot. The place is clean and popp'n with people. Our server "Joe" was excellent and all the staff were friendly. The food: Presentation looked good. I had the Howie (eggs, protein, grits or potatoes, toast or French toast) w/potatoes, crispy bacon, scrambled eggs and french toast. The eggs were fluffy with good flavor. The bacon was perfect as was rhe french toast. The potatoes on the other hand, needed a bit of improvem. They were undercooked, cold and not flavorful. After a couple of attempts to eat them, I decided to leave them behind. They have a self serve coffee bar with a good variety of coffees. They was unique and appreciated. My son had the chocolate chip waffle which he said was good. I'm sure other things were good. The place was busy so I'm sure it has its regulars. If we are ever back in the area, maybe we'll come back and try something else. It's only rated a 4 because of the potato situation. read more

We stopped in for Sunday brunch, and the restaurant was quite crowded, which seemed like a good sign. We waited about 5 minutes for someone to acknowledge us and were told it would be about 15 minutes for a table. Not a problem, we were perfectly happy to wait, but it seems there aren't clearly defined job roles in the restaurant, and the few staff there were for such a large dining room were all trying to do too much. My husband ordered the corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and an English muffin. He enjoyed his meal quite a lot and had leftovers to take home. I ordered one of the specials, which was supposed to have been shrimp and andouille sausage over breakfast potatoes with onions, peppers and a creamy sauce. They were out of andouille sausage, and I was offered chorizo as a substitute, which I actually suspect was regular pork breakfast sausage. I enjoyed it, although the sauce was a little flavorless, while the potatoes were heavy on the season all/seasoned salt. Where Sunrise Bistro really fell down was the service. Our server, Joe, had a tired, irritating "schtick" with all of his customers, which wore quite thin by the end of our meal. He would disappear to the POS system for five or more minutes at time, was hard to flag down for a drink refill (which he didn't do until we had finished our meals and he had cleared our plates), and kept exclaiming, "Bad waitress, bad waitress!" at himself for not providing good service. It wasn't funny and left us rolling our eyes, not wanting to return. read more

Probably the absolute worst management staff I've ever encountered. We came in on Mother's Day with a party of 13 and waited an hour to be seated (no issues since it's MD and we had a large party). The issues started right after we were sat. They shorted us 2 seats and we had to located 2 extras on our own. We had 2 servers, one took drink orders for 1/2 the table immediately and the 2nd one took over 20 minutes to greet us, and another 15 to get us drinks. By this time, the other server had already taken her half of the tables orders, and the other server took another 20-30 minutes to take the other half's order. The half that ordered first had already completely finished their food before the other half came out (about 45 minutes after we ordered it). Had a different server come up and ask if everything was okay and we voiced our displeasure. She immediately told the manager and owner, neither of which could be bothered to stop by the table during the entirety of the visit to find out the issue or correct it. They completely screwed their servers over. Complete incompetent. They don't care about your experience or making it better when it's sour. They completely ruined my wife and MIL Mother's Day breakfast, and couldn't even be bothered to talk to us. Spend your money with an establishment that actually cares about their consumers. This place is not it and will not spend another dollar with them. Been coming here over 10 years but won't step foot back in after this! read more

I had wanted to try this place for a long time. Finally met my friends for brunch. Our server was great. We had a large party. Everyone wanted separate checks. He was very sweet and constantly checked back to make sure all was great. Inside bit rundown and dreary but clean. I ordered an omelette. Not what I was expecting. My fave coffee is Candy Bar. I didn't like the coffee bar concept at first but it grew on me. It's quite big with many tables -- even on very busy days like Sunday, the wait is rarely very long. Came here for brunch while visiting a friend for the weekend. The parking lot was pretty full when we arrived so i was expecting a wait however they were able to sit us in about 5 minutes of us being there. We ordered a pitcher of mango mimosas that was a great deal at $13. On the recommendation of my friend i ordered the 3 meat shrimp and grits wit biscuit instead of toast and it did not disappoint. The grits were wonderful smooth and creamy the sauce was perfect. my friends were disappointed that they never got their water refilled but Overall the service was decent. Haven't been here in a while, but always a pleasure. Sunrise is just off Jamison Rd in Summerville. It's a smaller restaurant compared to the others but sizeable enough to accommodate a large party. They also have a bar you can sit at too. I ordered their open face salmon omelet with a side of French toast and it was great. Definitely a larger portion than I expected. The coffee was self serve, so I had to get up to make it. Gotta admit I wasn't truly a fan of that, having to leave the table. I would prefer just a pitcher being brought to my table. The plus side is that they do offer a variety of coffee blends though. Overall great place for breakfast, brunch, and lunch. read more

I give this restaurant 3 stars because their service is good and friendly and we really enjoy their Chorizo Grits Bowl but unfortunately I can't recommend their French toast and waffles. My family and I ordered from there and it wasn't even busy. I ordered their French toast sandwich and the bread was burnt, the bacon was way undercooked, and it had like a spec of cheese, couldn't even see it. It also tasted more like cloves than French toast. One of my kids ordered just French toast and well my 12 yr old makes it better. Also my other son ordered the waffle it was hard and overcooked. So all that being said I would probably go if I want the chorizo grits, the ambiance is nice and service friendly but that's about all I would order. read more

When we arrived, the place's curb appeal wasn't great, but that didn't deter us. When we went in and were seated, our waitress seemed disheveled and in a rush. She all but threw our utensils at us and quickly scurried away. That set the tone for the rest of the experience. I asked our waitress what fruit was available she said, "what ever they have that they scoop in there. Pineapple, cantaloupe, whatever is in a fruit mix." When I then asked about turkey bacon she seemed somewhat shocked I asked. Service was sadly below expectation. She yelled at us from across several tables to ask if we were ready to order. We got sat right away and it was kind of an awkward table, a server Madison saw us trying to get comfortable (I'm short and it was a high top) she moved us without me asking. She immediately treated us and helped us order. Wow our food came out so quick. It was absolutely delicious, she was quick to offer refills and see what else we may want. They have a self service coffee bar, if you have never been there they show you were everything is. The food was so filling I couldn't even finish my meal. The table next to us got an eggs Benedict and it looked fabulous so I can't wait to go back! Place was packed but it was huge so they were able to accommodate the breakfast push on a Saturday. Decided to try this out last week for breakfast. What a great surprise!! First, it's a self serve coffee bar. Variety of coffees - I tried several and they are all very good. We bought ground coffee to take home and make! Then the food - I had the open face omelette- very tasty and delish. My MIL had biscuit and gravy. That's her thing and she said this was definitely in the "one of the best" category. And the hubby had a waffle. Also very nicely done. And out server was on top of everything - gave us the lay of the land since it was our first time, made recommendations, was very efficient , stopping by, but not at all rushing us. Excellent breakfast this morning at Sunrise. The place was quite busy but we had no wait and our food arrived quickly despite the rush of folks who were sat at the same time as us. Great attentive service and the manager (?) apologized for the wait while they cleaned off a table. Self-service coffee with several flavors of brew and all the fixings available. I got the hazelnut but brought my wait the regular Sunrise Brew that she enjoyed. For breakfast, I had the meat lover's omelet. Big portion of meat and cheese, I don't know that I've seen one served "open" like this before. Nice to see how much goes into it. Mrs. K. chose the "Crabby Shrimp and Grits" and pronounced it amazing. Very loaded with seafood and creamy grits and lots of flavor. I'm on keto, so I didn't try it but it did look amazing. Very disappointed today as the first time here was fantastic. I brought my husband here after raving and today, the only thing hot was the coffee. We both ordered the Howie - 2 eggs, meat choice of grits or potatoes and toast. When our food arrived we had to ask for butter. Our server brought it right away but the toast and grits were so cold, the butter sat on top and never melted. The sunny-side up eggs were overdone with very little yolk. Great place! Food was so delicious and I really like the self serve coffee bar. The bacon wrapped hush puppies and honey herbed butter was such a good combination. My hubby got seafood crab grit bowl and it was amazing. Originally I got the pulled pork and bacon grit bowl.. the 'pulled pork' was scrambled in with the eggs but I saw not 1 piece of pulled pork. Was told that apparently it was finely shredded or something to that effect. Needless to say I changed my dish and got what hubby had...still delicious. Our server was super sweet, energetic and seemed really happy to be at work. The owner/manager came up to me on my way out and actually thanked me for speaking up about my dissatisfaction with my pulled pork dish. He said he would have expected actual pulled pork on the dish and didn't know it would be such a small, finely minced product. He showed me that he had scratched it off the board as a daily special and said he would not want to serve what he would not eat. He also said two others had complained about the same dish and thanked my again. This was my second time here but hadn't been here in years and the food was just as good but there were definitely more people this time since now. This place is no longer new. read more

This place is eclectic to say the least. The building looks like an old daycare or skating rink completed with a hodgepodge of decor inside. The actual restaurant is clean and the staff was friendly. Food took a while to come out and was warm but not hot. My breakfast was bland, my kids biscuit was salty. My husband had shrimp and grits and he cleaned his plate. We came here kinda a bunch for a while, but stopped. The food was always good but the service was iffy (occasionally rude) and slow. Today we tried again after a year or so... New staff, of course, so hopefully better. The booths are terrible. Staff knows it. A bouncy customer in an adjacent both will ruin your meal. Luckily they didn't give us a hard time about relocating The menu got bigger, which is nice. This review is confusing to write b/c the food we had here was excellent, but the experience was wacky!! My friend and I got here around noon and the parking lot was about empty. When you walk in the place is gigantic. The sign says please wait to be seated so a server arrived and told us to sit wherever we wanted. Since there was only about 3 tables filled I asked if she wanted us to sit in a particular area to help the server out, and she said no, just sit wherever, were rotating servers and you'll have so and so. (Her name started with a C.) She came over and took our drink order. Water, glass of champagne, and a sweet tea. And that's when the waiting started. I kept looking around and back by the bar area and she was no where to be found. A good amount of time passed and she came back with the water and tea. Apologized for the wait and said she had to brew a new pot of tea and that she'd be back with my champagne. HUH? Why not bring the other drinks and let us know your making a new pot of tea instead of just staying gone forever? Just seemed wacky!! We ordered our meals and I kid you not, the food was brought out to us from the kitchen by a different person and was there in under 5 minutes from the time she put our order in. FAST!! And it was great. It was hot, seasoned, cooked well, and delicious. While we were eating the server came by a couple times to check and make sure everything was good. Great. Thanks. Then we were finished. And again the wait began. Finally after sitting for a good 15+ minutes without seeing the server I asked another person to please get our check. She did. Our plates were cleared by someone else and then the server waiting on us came while we were looking at the bill and getting cash out. Says, "I don't mean to rush you." HUH? Rush us!!! Wacky. I think b/c the place is so big and only had a few tables filled it turned into a comical experience. Friends had just been there earlier in the morning and had the same server and said she was great. I'm giving them 3 stars because my most recent visit was much less enjoyable as past visits. It took someone 13 minutes to acknowledge me after being seated. I ordered a cheeseburger cooked medium well with coleslaw and a Greek side salad. The meal took 26 minutes to arrive and the cheeseburger was cooked to medium and I did not receive my side salad. I paid in cash - my bill was $15.40 to avoid the 3.5% upcharge for using a credit card. I gave my server $20.40 and she gave me $4 back in change. When I told her I gave her $20.40 she proceeded to tell me the change she gave me was correct. It took several minutes to convince her that she owed me an additional $1. Not as impressed with this visit as in the past. Will I give them another shot - questionable. read more

Great spot for breakfast in Summerville. It's a little off the beaten path with plenty of parking. It's across from a car body shop. The place doesn't look from the outside like a diner but inside it has a diner feel. I have not tried lunch yet, but I cannot wait to do so! I love the diy coffee station for breakfast. Our waitress is friendly and fantastic, she's from Wisconsin. She will make you feel welcomed. The service is fast and friendly. I've had the open face omelettes with the herb bread both times I have been for breakfast. Plenty of vegetarian options. Omelettes were good, very light and not heavy like other omelettes I've had and reasonably priced . My favorite so far has been the salmon one! I'll be back. read more
