We decided to try something other than Casa de Pico today...but I kind of wish we hadn't! This place is way overpriced for bland and tired Mexican food. The salsa that came with the chips was the best part. The chips themselves were, as many others have said, "BLAH." I had Arroz Con Pollo and that's exactly what I got...a whole lot of arroz with some pollo in the middle. When I got the bill it said my entree was $19.98! I asked the waiter and he gladly corrected it, but it was a good thing I looked. Oh, and the ONLY beer they have on tap is bud light...really?? Otherwise you can pay $5 for a bottle of XX. Think about that, it would be $30 for a six pack! They could charge like $3 instead and still make a killing, and probably sell more of them. I also saw that some of the mediocre margs there are $10. For something that took me 40 minutes of work to pay for, it better be pretty damn tasty since all it's really going to do is make me pee a lot and wake up with a sugar/cheap tequila headache. I understand that sometimes drink prices go up with the cool ambiance of the establishment, but this place doesn't have that either, unless you count the plastic "Viva la Mexico" banners from the Cinco de Mayo clearance section at Party City. Next time I want to satisfy my mexican craving, I'm going to Las Parillas in Rancho (super fresh with an awesome salsa bar) or Casa de Pico at Grossmont (always a decent fallback). read more

There Bean and Cheese burrito with red sauce is yummy and the bean taco salad....(i get my beans on the side cuz they are a lil runny, expect an odd look from the waiter). I've eaten here before and never had a bad experience, so I decided that I wanted to go here after my college graduation. They don't take reservations so I was a little worried about going on a Friday night with a party of 16. We got there and they were busy but not terribly so. I've been here a couple times in the last couple of months. The first time was for dinner, service was Okay not great or good. My brother unfortunately had a nice bit of plastic cooked into his tacos. My beans had a mint flavor to them, which made me think that someone had dropped a piece of gum into the pot..... The second trip to this establishment was for a Sunday Champagne brunch. The service was completely horrible. Our server was constantly ignoring us and used a decent amount of profanity. Normally I love this place! My husband and I have been coming here for years, mainly for their carne asada! But the last time that we came, we ordered carne asada burritos to go and not only did we come home with something other than carne asada, but we didn't even get the rest of our order, which consisted of an additional order of rice and beans. This place is a family tradition for my mother's birthday. We just celebrated her 80th there last month and as always, the food was great and the service impeccable! The margaritas are always delicious as well...we usually order a few pitchers for the group and it's perfect. Visited Marietta's in La Mesa today. Ordered their Taco Tuesday special but was told there was none, yet when I phoned ahead I was told "Yes, we have a Taco Tuesday special". Husband and I decided to split a $10.75 entrée. The waiter informed us there would be an additional $4.95 charge because $4.95 was the minimum requirement per person at that establishment. I have always had good service with this place, until a few times ago. They went downhill kind of fast for me. I started going with my friend a lot because we really like their food but the last time we went which was yesterday will probably be our last time for a while. First off let me start by saying as soon as we walked in and sat down, every single one of the waiters stared my friend down like she was a criminal or something. Keep in mind we decided to come here because it has a nice environment for talking. I said that was complete BS! And she wasn't budging so we almost left but she complied with another option. Then as we were leaving, the ceiling started dripping onto another parties table! The food/drinks were awesome however i was certainly surprised about the service. When i walked in i did not feel welcome by any means and the staff seemed bored and i wasnt even greeted! I had a waiter who seemed very unhappy and rude for that matter, and did not come to check on my table for 25 min after we had ordered! I asked to speak to a manager and let her know that it all seemed very rude and i was bummed that my waiter didnt even bother to come back after the initial order taking.
