Chilaquiles with half red and green salsa
    Jennifer H.

It has been a few years since the last time I came to this small restaurant. I was in the La Mesa neighborhood to run some errands so I stopped by Momentos on a Sunday morning for breakfast. I ordered the Chilaquiles half green and half red salsa with scrambled eggs and Cafe de la olla to drink. The chilaquiles were even better than I remembered. The spice level was kicked up a notch. If you don't like spice, I would caution you. If you need to open up your sinuses, get this. The tortillas are nice and crispy. The eggs were cooked perfectly. I stayed to eat at the restaurant. It is very quaint and tiny. It seats approximately 40 (six tables of four, two tables of two and a long bar of approx ten). I came at the perfect time. About seven minutes after I arrived, so many people showed up and no seats were available. You know it is good when all customers are Mexicans. I would totally recommend this place if you are in the Grossmont or La Mesa area.

The food was delicious. I also enjoyed the coffee too. It was very good. I will definitely will be coming back.

When I used to live in La Mesa, this spot at the mall was my go-to! I absolutely loved their Birria plate and chips & guac. During my pregnancy in 2022, I constantly craved their chips & guac specifically--it was that good! Now that we live in Riverside County, I'm so glad we had the chance to enjoy their food again. Their tortilla chips are amazing--you can tell they're made fresh from scratch. What sets them apart is the mix of cilantro, onions, and even cucumbers! The freshness and crunch add such a refreshing flavor. Their menu has a great variety, from breakfast options like pancakes to hearty burgers. There's something for everyone! The staff here are always so friendly, and the decorations for the holidays make the place even more special. Definitely give this spot a try!

I'm a really bad food reviewer when it comes to pictures... as you can see. I hope that the picture does show you how amazing the food was though. I got the Chilaquiles Platter Half Green, Half Red. I'm super picky when it comes to Chilaquiles because nothing can beat my Grandmothers cooking but I decided to give it a try. The taste, the texture and the fresh ingredients were so good. We literally came back the next day to order it again and it tasted the exact same. My wife and I have made this our new breakfast spot when we want some good food.

My partner and I love this restaurant! All of their food is super fresh and the staff are always friendly. Each time I've visited, the ambiance has been very casual. They're usually playing a game on the TV too. I've visited twice in the last two weeks and I loved my food both times. The Milanesa Torta: OMG. This dish is very nostalgic to me because my Dad used to make milanesa all the time when I was growing up. The steak is breaded and fried but not dry, and they add fresh tomatoes, onion, avocado, and lettuce. They never use prepackaged guacamole here either!! The fish taco- it is crispy and comes with a great chipotle sauce on top! The hard shell chicken taco- the chicken is flavorful and tender! And they give a generous amount of cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes on top.

Arlene was warm and welcoming. Friendly smile and very kind. I had an egg and chorizo burrito - it was so fresh and yummy. Flavorful packed goodness. The green mild salsa and red hot salsa were both exceptional. Thank you to the chef as well. Clean ambiance. Nice Christmas music playing. A positive experience. Parking is easy, there is a free lot here in the center.

We have been coming to Momentos for years! Taste and quality is what makes us return. I usually get the sopes plate with choice of three meats. They are stacked high with all the goods, cheese, pickled onions and the salsa is good too. Minus one star: They used to have a little mobile salsa trio that you could bring to the table and get as much salsa you wanted but this last time we went you had to ask and it came in a little to go cup. One improvement: Wishing they brought back the salsa platter because we usually like to have our dishes smothered with salsa, just a preference. Tons of choices to choose from the menu. Went on a Saturday afternoon and it was packed with customers. The ambiance is chill and overall has been upgraded in the interior with a few new decorations/remodeling. It's a nice place to eat in while shopping.

I've been at this restaurant more than a few times and every time I tell them that I don't want my eggs drowning in oil they seem to not understand this this is super gross. I don't even think it should be appropriate to serve eggs like this.

Simple but delicious Mexican restaurant located in the outdoor mall. Order at the counter and seat yourself, I went for breakfast and it was popular! I got the chilaquiles and it was so delicious!! Service took more time than I anticipated but worth the wait. Parking is very easy as it's located in a mall.

I've been coming here for years and the consistency is unmatched. The food is top notch every single time. It's like they took the classic taco shop items that everyone loves and elevated them in the most delicious way. There's something here for everyone to enjoy, no matter your taste. And the people that work here are all so genuinely nice as well. It's a casual order-at-the-counter restaurant yet the food is fresh and upscale. 1000000000/10

It came with a yummy almond galleta dusted with powdered sugar. The coffee was perfect. I dipped my cookie in my coffee and truly it was the perfect bite plus perfect treat as I waited for my food because I was HUNGRY! Our food took a while to arrive it was a Saturday morning at brunch but it wasn't crowded. The wait was the kind of wait you do where you look at the tables around you to see who has food and who doesn't and wonder what was the seating order of the folks around you and if they got their food before you and why. So when my food arrived I was sooooo ready! I ordered the chorizo and crispy potatoes burrito. It looked great when it arrived! I strategically cut my burrito about a quarter of the way in. I knew I would at least eat a quarter but I knew I definitely wouldn't eat the whole thing and I didn't want to waste a perfectly good bite on all tortilla. I cut my burrito and put a bite on my fork and as I put my food in my mouth I looked down and find a long curly hair. To say I was disappointed was an understatement. I was disappointed for several reasons. 1. The bite I took was all egg and tortilla. No cheese no chorizo no potato. 2. I was starving! And 3. I knew I wasn't going to have anything to eat until after the other two people I was with finished eating and I could go somewhere else to get food. I didn't let it damper my mood. I showed the waiter who was very apologetic and took my plate away. When he walked away. It hit me I didn't tell him to not bring me anything else because I was going to eat a remade burrito. So I got his attention because I didn't want them to waste anymore food. Here is what I will say. To replace my food, I was given a pastry platter that was AMAZINGLY good! The concha was legit the best I've ever eaten. The banana bread was delicious with delicious toasted pecans which added a caramelized texture to the banana bread! No joke, it was so good. What I will also say is that I was visited with no less than 3 people including Gabriela herself who was absolutely apologetic about my experience and assured me it wouldn't happen again. What's also nice is that I wasn't charged for the food I ate which believe it or not has happened to me before MANY years ago. My peeps whom I was with absolutely loved their food. One had the Sopes and the other had the huevos rancheros. So while I have to be honest about my review, I really think this was a one off mistake and at the very least I would highly suggest ordering cafecito and pastries from Casa Gabriela!

I've also heard rave reviews from family and friends. Since we were suit shopping at Fashion Valley and were hanging out with my son and his girlfriend, I recommended that we eat at Chuy's for lunch. If you're a fan of value for your money and tasty Mexican food, I definitely recommend dining here. 4.5 stars for sure, but I'm glad our go to Mexican food spot, Yesenia's, is closer to us and we can visit there for amazing Mexican food as well. Chuy's Taco Shop is located in Rolando, which is close to El Cajon Blvd. and the San Diego State University area. The easiest way to get here would be the 8 freeway east or west, exiting off of 70th Street, and heading south. The taco shop is located within a small strip mall where you can find Ben & Esther's Vegan Jewish Deli, San Diego Blenders Smoothies, and Moxie Theatre. It's across the street from a tire shop. From the outside, it looks like a typical local San Diego Mexican fast food joint, but you can immediately tell that the owners are proud of their accolades displaying Guy Fieri's DDD mug and Yelp's 2025 Top 100 Places To Eat distinction on its front glass window. As you step inside, you'll see several homages to Guy Fieri of DDD fame with a framed signed picture, another framed signed pic with Guy's caricature, and one of their televisions showing the DDD episode featuring Chuy's. There's a good amount of tables and chairs to dine in, several televisions, distressed laminate wood flooring, and accolades hanging on their walls that the restaurant has garnered. Friendly and professional customer service from the lady behind the register, who also doubled as our server. Not sure anything can be done about this, but flies also liked Chuy's food as we had to keep fanning our food. I've been blessed to eat at several DDD restaurants throughout California, Nevada, and Arizona and I have enjoyed every single one I dined at. Having eaten at Chuy's Taco Shop for the first time, I understand why Guy Fieri did a segment here. What I really appreciated about Chuy's was their value for your money. When you dine here, be prepared for large portions, so definitely come hungry. Whenever I eat at any Mexican fast food spot, I order the same go to items that my family and I order at our favorite restaurant Yesenia's. Since I was breaking bread with my wife, son, and his girlfriend, we ordered the following: two carne asada burritos; five rolled tacos with cheese, guacamole, and lettuce; full order carne asada chips; half order of carne asada fries; and a pineapple agua fresca. I wanted to compare what we typically order from Yesenia's. When you eat at Chuy's, the amount of food you get will feed an army. I didn't expect the carne asada burritos to be the length of my forearm. I got to eat some of my son's and it was delicious and satisfying. The star of our meal were the rolled tacos. It was stuffed full with tasty beef, crunchy, and its components were memorable. We barely touched the carne asada chips because we ordered too much, but they aren't stingy with their carne asada both for the chips and their fries. The half order of carne asada fries were plenty and I enjoyed that dish. The pineapple drink was refreshing and helped beat the toasty weather. I still feel Yesenia's is better quality, but for the amount of food at Chuy's, it's a must visit Mexican restaurant. I'm glad I got to finally experience Chuy's Taco Shop and check off another Guy Fieri featured DDD restaurant. If I'm in the area, I will definitely stop by to try their other menu items, but I'm glad our fave Mexican fast food spot is closer to us to satisfy our Mexican food cravings.

Walking into Panchos, you are immediately greeted by a bright, colorful and welcoming scene. It gives you the feeling of walking into your tía's favorite old school restaurant. The tables and benches are dark wood. And there is papel picado hanging. It's charming. You get the feeling that Panchos has been around for decades. Apparently, the restaurant has been open here since 2004. And the real star? Our server, whose name I cannot recall. He was equal parts waiter and comedian, a very kind man who was highly attentive and extremely helpful. If you like spicy salsa, be sure to tell him to bring you the good stuff from the back (after he offers you bland Tapatio). The menu is absolutely massive. They have breakfast burritos, breakfast plates, chips and fries, shrimp plates, soups (check with the team about offerings, like caldo de res), tortas, quesadillas and a kid's menu and more. I highly recommend the cheese enchiladas and the chile relleno. The chile relleno is especially good. It isn't your soggy, cafeteria-style relleno drowned in red sauce and regret. It is the best comfort food, and Panchos does it well. There is a generous melt of Oaxacan cheese, the batter is very light without being greasy. And then there was the ranchero sauce! Tangy tomatoes, a hint of garlic, and a tiny bit of chili. So very good. Also popular on the menu is a pitcher of margaritas, which you should plan on sharing with three others. The mango margarita is also quite nice. And they also have a Baileys & Coffee. And you can easily get a delicious, filling meal for $20 or less. All around, a great place.
