Came here after hearing so much about the food and seeing a lot of media hype surrounding it. I ordered the surf and turf cali burrito and it was so so giant! Literally have never seen a burrito this big! Although I appreciated the portion size, I wish the tortilla was toasted. The size is also a double-edged sword; I feel like I couldn't get a full flavor profile in each bite. I also ordered a "half" order of carne asada fries and portion was so big. My favorite carne asada fries out of all places I've tried. The meat was juicy. The fries were crispy. Overall, burrito was okay but really enjoyed the fries.

I was really excited to finally try Chuy's because they're always at the Yelp events, but only offering burritos, which I don't eat. They had a bigger menu than I anticipated and it took me a second to decide what to get. We ended up getting the following items: - Carnitas Taco - the best of the 3 tacos we got. The meat was cooked soo nicely and flavored to perfection! - Adobada Taco - the worst of the 3 tacos we got. It was bland, chewy, and no amount of salsa could save it - Cabeza Taco - good, but nothing special. Would rather have a different taco than this, but I wouldn't shy away from eating it - side of Rice - horrible. Bland and salty and expensive. We didn't even finish this Each taco was drowning in toppings and it wasn't necessary. We took off at least half of the toppings they gave so that we could taste the meats. It's such a waste for them to do this because it isn't helping their tacos or their pockets. While the tacos/food items are expensive, they give sizeable portions to make up for it. Unfortunately, when the dish isn't good, it's a bigger waste of money than if the portion was smaller. I honestly cannot believe how disgusting their rice was. I would be embarrassed if I was them. I would come back for the carnitas taco and to try something else because I do believe they offer great quality and large portions for the price. 3.5 stars rounded to 3.

Wife and I decided to pop in since we were in the area. Service is excellent as always. The ambiance and vibe is Guy Fieri approved. I tried there Surf n Turf Burrito, at first saw the rice and was about to be disappointed, far from it. I understand that you have to have filler to make up for less steak and shrimp. But the flavor of the rice was so delicious . The peppers and onions. This is a flavor town favorite. Agua frescas are

Food: Gets tastier each visit-guacamole is consistently fresh, simplicity at is best. Luv Chuy's Salsa Bar-choices include mild to xtra picosa Rice & beans springing with authenticity & freshness. Rolled beef tacos filled generously, crisp & (there's that word again) fresh. Service: Cashiers take orders efficiently, answer questions graciously. Chefs always busily prepare deliciousness adeptly. Their efforts are beyond appreciated. Ambience: Cozy Mexican Flavor that welcomes hungry patrons . Thank you, CHUY'S

I may get some backlash for this and I realize it's a hot take... but I'm really struggling to understand the hype behind Chuy's. After seeing countless videos on social media and reading the reviews, I decided I had to try this incredible California burrito. I went on a Sunday and the service was quick and the woman that helped me was efficient and nice. The variety of salsas was nice as I'm a big sauce girl so I tried a few of them -- none blew my socks off but they were good. The burrito arrived and I was hopeful based on the size. Once I cut into it and had my first few bites, I was underwhelmed. It's not that it was a bad burrito, it just didn't live up to the hype that had been built up. The meat was a little tough and the fries were soggy, the guacamole was minimal -- overall, it was an average burrito. I wish I could share a different experience and the reviews are great so maybe I just came on an off day.

Chuy's, Chuy's Chuy's. Where do I begin? If you want to feel like you ingested an infant child, this is the place. Burritos are double the size of el jordy nino and taste fatigue sets in quick. Worst part is when it comes out the other end... This place ight.

holy crap, get the chile relleno carnitas burrito. its 16 bucks but is easily a two meal burrito and it is so good. food comes out quick and unfortunately i do see where guy fieri was going w chuy's.

    Bacon egg potatoes burrito

My bacon egg and potato breakfast burrito was very mid, especially for $15... very French fries forward, which were not fully cooked and greasy, 3/4 salsas tasted watered down. Expected much better based on the 4.4 rating, felt like a total waste of money... Guy Fiero would not approve

Chuy's Taco Shop has one of the best burritos I've ever had, and that's no exaggeration. The shop feels cozy and homey, with a straightforward, no-frills setup that really lets the food speak for itself. I loved seeing all their awards and features on display, especially knowing this spot was featured on one of my comfort shows: Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives! And yes -- it absolutely lives up to the hype. My boyfriend and I shared the surf and turf burrito, and calling it "huge" feels like an understatement. It's perfect for sharing and is delicious from start to finish! We even took leftovers home and were able to get a whole second meal out of it LOL. It's definitely on the oily side and a bit messy but is 100% worth it. Service was impeccable from the moment we walked in. The staff was friendly, efficient, and made the experience easy and enjoyable. The restaurant was clean and well maintained + the sauce bar was fully stocked with everything you could need, all conveniently laid out. Parking was also a plus since it's located in a plaza, so finding a spot wasn't an issue. Overall, the food was amazing and the experience matched it. I'd absolutely come back again and highly recommend Chuy's Taco Shop if you're in San Diego and looking for a solid and delicious meal.

CHUY'S TACO SHOP @ EL CAJON Parking is available in their lot and is free. It's also shared in a plaza, so it's pretty easy to find a spot! This place is known for its gigantic portions, especially the burritos. They're literally the size of your head, so my boyfriend and I had to check it out. It's only about a five-minute drive from SDSU, so if you're a student, I highly recommend stopping by. When we walked in, the atmosphere was clean, bright, and really spacious. I also noticed they have a salsa bar, which is always a win. The menu is displayed on a TV to the right when you enter, and they offer everything from burritos to tacos to loaded fries. We went with their iconic Chewy's Burrito, which comes with carnitas and chile relleno. It was about $16, and people say it can feed 2-3 people. We waited around 10 minutes, and during that time all the tables were clean, they had napkins ready, and there was a TV playing. You can grab cups for water by the register, and they even have a huge refrigerated water dispenser, which I appreciated because the water was actually cold. When the burrito came out, it was stuffed with creamy avocado guac and incredibly tender carnitas with amazing flavor. I also loved the tortilla, perfect thickness without overpowering the filling. It really let the ingredients shine. Portion-wise, it wasn't as insane as I expected. My boyfriend and I shared one, but I only had a few bites because he absolutely demolished it. Honestly, if you're hungry, you could finish one on your own. I've heard the surf-and-turf burrito is actually their biggest, so maybe we didn't get the largest one after all, but overall, I would definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for authentic Mexican food near SDSU.

Chuy's taco shop has an amazing steak and eggs breakfast burrito. It's huge and easily enough to fill you up for hours. The steak is tender, the eggs are cooked just right, and everything comes together perfectly. Simple, satisfying, and definitely worth it.

Chuy's originally featured on a Guy Fiery's tv show is a solid taco shop that earned its claim to fame via that episode. I loved the service and size of the cali burrito I ordered. I did think it would be a little larger in comparison to other taco shops, but the size was adequate. The meat was well seasoned and cooked perfectly. My only gripe was the fries were soggy and a bit undercooked. Pico gallo was a nice fresh contrast to the warm ingredients but I felt it needed sour cream and/or guacamole. I really love when taco shops have a salsa bar. Chuy's was on the top of that category. Overall, a solid spot for burritos etc.

    carne asada fries
    Erica C.

It was fine but nothing spectacular. This is not a place I would ever come back to I think. Fries were a good texture but kind of bland. Carne asada had a nice char and slight smoky flavor but were a little chewy. Salsas are not great; they are pretty watered down. Staff were nice and service was fast. Lots of parking in the lot.

I was pleasantly surprised to find it inside the Lafayette Hotel, absolutely gorgeous, and on the 4th of July the pool was packed and full of energy. The hotel has so many beautiful bars that we could've stayed there all day. Our 6:30p reservation was during a busy stretch, but the vibe was great. I love love love the interior design, cocktails, food, and especially that they allow dogs. Everyone was so sweet to her. Food came out fast, too. We ordered four small plates as recommended, but three would've been perfect for two people so it makes more room for dessert. They surprised us with a complimentary dessert and a personalized candle, which made the night feel extra special. Beware there's only street parking, no valet service (unless you're a hotel guest), so that can present a challenge. Reservations a MUST on weekends, especially with a group. Now for the food reviews. Everything we ordered was delicious from the squash blossom and smashed tuna tartare appetizers to the El Festin platter (made for groups) . Since the main dining area is kept dark for the dramatic gothic effect, it's tricky to rely on your sense of sight for the presentation of each of the dish. The highlight for me was the chili garlic shrimp tacos. So full of flavor! The only drawback is that many of their dishes are made with nuts. So if you have a nut allergy, which one of us in our group did, the menu was limiting. Overall, it's an incredible place for first timers and out-of- towners. I might return for a special celebration, but not repeatedly. Once is good enough experience, especially with so many other special dining options in our fine city.

It features a huge outdoor terrace with fire pits and refreshing ocean breezes, making it perfect for watching sunsets, snapping photos, or romantic dates. So I was very excited to see what this place had to offer. Celebrated my daughter's 19th birthday here this week, and to be honest, I was not impressed. The location and views from this place are unmatched. Tons of covered patio seating with a breathtaking view of the downtown skyline. As for the food, it was just ok. It was mostly mexican seafood, but there was a good mix of other items like steak and a wagu burger. Everything was served hot and fresh, but in my honest opinion, everything just lacked flavor. Everything I tasted was just bland, and I tasted a little bit of all of my family's meals. But everyone agreed. Maybe we are just spoiled with San Diego Mexican food. My biggest complaint of the night was the service. Our waiter started off well. He took our drink orders and when he returned, asked if we wanted to get appetizers started, which we did. Our appetizers came out and were finished and we still had not seen our server to order our main dinner. This continued to be the issue all night, we were constantly looking and waiting for our server. There were other servers that came around and filled our drinks and took our plates, and they were great! But we really didn't see our main server most of the night. And one of the times that we did walk by, my daughter asked for a new glass of water because she had dropped food into the glass. He took the glass and never came back. I ended up giving my daughter my water. I did notice that the servers at the other tables were awesome. They were attentive, and we constantly saw them checking on their guest. And like I said, we are fans of all of the Cohn restaurants we have dined at before, so the level of service we received is not typical. Maybe our server was new??? I will say, this is not a cheap place to eat. My family of 5 spent almost $240 and that was with no alcohol or desserts. So you would expect to receive a high level of service. Other than the ambience, our experience was just ok. I would highly recommend the restaurants next door, which are owned by the same owner, and have never disappointed us in quality and/or service (Island Prime or C-Level).

California Burritos is very apt for their name, my bf rates it a 10/10. As a California Burrito connoisseur, he liked the addition of sour cream in it and said the flavors were delicious. He topped it with their green salsa for a little bit of a freshness to cut through the richness and fattiness of the meat and fries in the burrito. He didn't care for the fish taco that much and rated it a 4/10 but said the restaurant overall was a 10/10, as he thought there was too much lettuce and tomato throwing off the ratio of the taco. That said, I was pleasantly surprised at how much I liked this burrito. It's large, filling, but their sauce had an almost artificial red color to it. It's a small tack shop style place, made more for to-go orders. Service was fast and friendly. Their horchata is where they really lose a star, it's from a fountain and tastes like it, watered down artificial flavor.
