Hmm... this is really sad because I really wanted to get a Tres Leches from here for my roommates birthday. I literally called 11 times to find out if there are any left and to find out the price to see maybe if I could get two. But..... the person who answered picked up the phone to yell the first 3 times. The 4th attempt my call went straight to voicemail where I left a message, and the last 6 calls were all telling me I can't complete the call or I've reached the number but the mailbox is full. What a turnoff. With this, I deeply regret to inform any readers to just skip this place since apparently customer service is not a priority. And that's just over the phone. Its easier and probably cheaper to make your own cake than play this crap game of terrible customer service. read more

Me, and my boyfriend have been customers since 2013. What we like: the cemas de trigo cookies (for the kids) butter croissant among other breads. The Mexican tamales are good too! The only nasty item was; the Guatemalan tamal, because the masa was all watery, and soft. It was a big mass of masa with little ingredients inside! I especially love the coffee, 1st than McCafe! THE BIG PROBLEM: Customer service with the daughter of the owner. She has bleach hair, a long braid. Incident: me, and my boyfriend went to purchase bread I was next in line when my boyfriend picked up another cookie and place it on the tray, within 3 seconds, this cashier takes the customer behind us! Me, and my boyfriend were upset by this disrespectful behavior of hers! We ask her why, and she's "you were not ready !" When we were !All my boyfriend did was quickly grab another cookie! That took less than 3 seconds! She says in Spanish to another customer about how we were "complaining" I told her that was rude. She gets angry and tells me "I get out at 10:00PM if you want to solve this" She is telling me that she was going to kick my ass! My boyfriend went again a couple of days later and at first she refused to serve him! Told him front of many customers "I m not going to take your orders!" My boyfriend was so humiliated! Since then we go but not daily as we use to! It seems her father is on her side! SMH hopefully her father fires her before he goes out of business! read more

The girls here are really cool. I Yelped local bakeries as I didn't want to drive far to Porto's from the LB Airport. The cake I got was 3 Leches filled with cream. It was just perfect. Not too soggy not too dry but was on the sweet side. I also got the Flan and omg it was so delicious! If I have an emergency cake this would be the spot I would go to again. Thank You read more

I won't lie, I have been to this bakery before years ago and it wasn't exactly the cleanest place, but I decided to check it out again as there's also a really good juice bar across the street. What a change! The facilities were sparkling clean, I ordered a tres leches cake For my friends birthday and it was super delicious . The cake was nice and moist and creamy. It was a hit. I ordered my cake at 10 AM and it was ready by one. I told the owner to make the decor pretty and she went out I have her way to create flowers in the bouquet, so nicely done. Bread was not fresh it was good but day old dry The tres leche cake tasted like skim milk & chemicals it was just plain awful I'd rather go to Northgate supermarket for pastries if the actual Mexican bakeries around here are this bad. I want to give them more stars but I just can't. The tamales are not Guatemala at all. They claim to be Guatemala tamales and they are just sad little tamales. It's missing many key ingredients to make it Guatemalan. The bread is a little over priced. The juices they have are limited but good and have a great price. If they only were friendlier. I have been going there for over 8 years, but the workers are always the same. You would think they would remember you and greet you with a warmer feeling. I LOVE Marilu's Bakery. I recently got hired as a professor at Long Beach City College and, being from Fullerton, had no idea where to get a bite to eat near the Pacific Coast Campus besides nasty fast food. I discovered Marilu's via Yelp (thank you Yelpers!), and I'm so glad I did!! It's easy to park near there (even with the construction going on right now), it's never crowded, it's inexpensive, it's delicious, the women behind the counter are always very nice, and I'm supporting small businesses! I go there for a smoothie and a chicken tamale. Of course, I always get a little pan dulce treat too. ;) The green cocktail smoothie is very refreshing. It's very light and liquidy. I'm okay with that because it's not my meal; I drink it with my tamale! Sometimes they go heavy with masa on their tamales, but I don't hardly eat the masa part regardless of how thick or not thick it is. The conchas are always warm and fluffy and delicioso! :) If you are they type to feel uncomfortable around people of color, then you will probably have some negative comment about the area. As I am not one of those people, I say the area is fine. On a cold day, visit Marilu's and get champurrado with some pan dulce. You will not be disappointed. :) read more

Late on making this review but here it goes... in February for our sons bday we looked for bakeries near by and found this one.. super excited to order a Spider-Man cake for my sons bday... pricy but ok... we wanted to add his middle name before they made the cake so we called back within a few minutes to make that change and when we said: hello I'm calling to make changes on an order that was placed who am I speaking too? The lady had the nerve to say she didn't need to tell me her name... so I decided to ask for the manager and low and behold the manager was the same way... rude!! The cake was very moist and not too sweet which was good but it lacked something I like in a tres leches cake....maybe the condensed milk flavor? Good, nonetheless and got compliments. Decor was nice too,.didnt look.cheap like other bakeries. While waiting for the lady to write happy bday on the cake, I couldn't resist and look at the bolillo bread and other pastries that smelled super good! I went to this place on June 1st to buy a tres leche cake for my mom for her birthday last minute. I came here because this place had great reviews so I thought I would give it a try. Upon entering you could smell all the pastries/bread around you. The lady that attended me barely knew any English but was a great help to me. Since it was a small celebration (7 people) I wanted a small cake. They only had medium sized to large cakes that were in tres leche. The only cake that was small was the chocolate tres leche flavored cake. In the end it was okay. Nothing extraordinary or special about the cake. This place has terrible tamales !! If your into hard packed masa with no filling then this is your spot , I work in east la and I know what a good tamale is and this place ain't cutting it . First of all the mexican tamales were hard and packed firm with masa also the were packaged like bundles of heroin ready to be smuggled , these things had sooo much Saran Wrap on them a drug sniffing dog couldn't find the filling .. Thank you Yelpers!!! I picked up a tes leches cake for my moms birthday and it was a hit! It's hard to find cakes under $20.00 so I was happy with the 1/2 sheet size. My husband couldn't resist getting a croissant and he loved it! I was nicely surprised to see they also sell fresh juices.... we got fresh OJ and a vampiro juice.... both 100% natural, no added sugar and very little ice. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because they don't accept credit cards and in this day in age, who carries more than $20.... it limited our purchases and we would have bought more but I had only taken $10 extra read more

I was told this was a Guatemalan bakery. Guess what it is not. They offer one or two types of their version of Guatemalan bread, but it is far from the real thing. It seems like they simply use the dough from the Mexican bread and dress it up to look as Guatemalan bread. You may be able to fool someone who does not know, but please don't claim that this is Guatemalan bread. Aside from this, it is also very expensive. I paid over $3 for 3 pieces of bread. Compared to other Guatemalan bakeries, this is twice the price. Definitely a big disappointment. I will continue my search for good Guatemalan Bread closer to OC. Best champurrado around! The bread is always fresh, the servers are friendly even if you don't speak Spanish. The tres leche cake is to die for, there's a good selection of food it's too. I ordered a chocolate tres leches cake on Friday for Monday over the phone. When I went to go pick it up I was early so I waited a few minutes but it was worth it! The cake was made that morning and it was so fresh and moist it! Everyone loved it!! While I was waiting I got a chorizo torta, flan and a shake. The only thing that I didn't like was the shake not enough ice and a little chalky for my taste. Everything else was very delicious. Also everyone was super nice over the phone and in person! We were looking for a bakery to make my sisters quinceañera cake and a family friend recommended Marilus. The employees were very friendly and kind and helped us work out a last minute arrangement (we ordered the cake on Thursday and needed it for Saturday). Friday morning we changed the design of the cake and they were happy to accommodate and the baker even helped us add a little more to the design for an extra elegant look. The cake itself was very delicious and looked spectacular! The staff exceeded our expectations from the ordering process to the delivery of the cake. The cake was delivered on time and in perfect condition. Today (Sunday 7/15) the owner of the bakery called in to see if we had been satisfied with the cake and service! Stumbled upon Marilus on my way to Phnom Penh today. What a pleasant surprise! I got the three cheese cake / bread, the chocolate cake with cheesecake-like top and a cinnamon cake. They were all very tasty. Most importantly, I recommend this bakery because the staff here is 100% service oriented. I'm not familiar with Central and South American pastries and the staff explained to me the specialties that they are known for, her personal favorites and also took time to explain some of the food traditions of the culture for the holidays. read more

My family and i got some conchas, puerquitos, a cupcake, quesadilla and we had to try their champurrado. Let me start off with the champurrado, it was so good! Not too sweet and not too bland.
