I just tried shopping here but half of the staff wasn't wearing masks. The isle that I needed to shop in had a worker with a mask on, so I left without getting what I needed. I've lived in Terra Linda for over 10 years and whenever I need something hardware related I had to drive all the way to Home Depot or to OSH in downtown San Rafael. Now we have our own local Ace Hardware. It's housed in what used to be a Ponderosa steakhouse. Talk about an upgrade. Before this store opened up anytime I needed a screw or some paint I'd have to drive all the way downtown. Not anymore. They have 90% of what you need to get most of the around-your-house jobs done. You still have to go somewhere else to get giant sheets of plywood but seriously how often do you need to? It might be a little bit more expensive but it's so convenient. and finding somebody to answer your questions is not a hassle. I've done a lot of painting around our home in the last few years and I've bought a lot of different brands of paint. Their paint is by far the best. I won't buy paint anywhere else from now on. I'm an Amazon Prime freak and I buy practically everything from them. Sometimes I feel guilty about not supporting local businesses. I feel good about patronizing Ace and I plan on continuing to do so. read more

I will NEVER come here again. I'm always nice and friendly to staff at any establishment, because I too have worked in retail/food service etc. I Asked 3 different people to help me get a key copied...easy enough, right? After being told to go over to the key machine and wait til "someone gets to you" I sat for roughly 15min watching customers come and go. Finally, I saw someone simply stocking the shelves and politely asked if they could help me get my key copied. The answer I got was just "wait" and then he pushed past me like he was suddenly in a hurry and disappeared. Like most people, I don't have 30min to wait around until the employees decide the shelves are stocked to their satisfaction. I left so frustrated and amazed at how dismissive the staff was. Save yourself the headache of being treated like crap while spending more than you would elsewhere. read more

Best customer service ever! Had a problem with my staple gun, from another stores error, and they fixed it with no questions asked!!!! The checker (a young beautiful lady, shouldve got her name) went out of her way to make sure I walked out satisfied and with a fixed staple gun! These days its hard to find such great customer service! Truely a great experience! I live in Forest Knolls and will be making the extra trip with my hardware needs!!!! A good old-fashioned hardware store, beautifully clean and well-organized, that seems to carry anything you might need for your home, yard, car, etc. Friendly helpful staff, you don't have to look high and low for assistance like in the big-box stores. I didn't do much price checking but they basically told me they can match anybody's price. What I went in there for was advice about getting a (car) ignition key made. My car dealer would have charged me hundreds of dollars for one key! Marin Ace Hardware was able to make me a key in a few minutes for well under $100. It worked the door locks, ignition, and there were no problems with my 2 separate car alarms, everything worked like a charm. The whole store and staff were so nice, I enjoyed just being in there. This place is such a frustration. Whatever I need they don't have. Asking for help results in more frustration when the person supposed to be helping me is reading the back of boxes in an attempt to answer my question. When I'm then handed a masonry grinding wheel to cut metal....I'm done. I never give a negative review based on one visit anywhere because anyone can have an off day. While these examples are from one day, they are consistent with other trips as well. Totally frustrating. They get 2 stars because they've always had flat white Rustoluem when I've needed. My job requires me to have keys for all my clients and so I get keys made about twice a month for the last 12 years. I have been everywhere in Marin getting keys made! I'm traveling and need some things I accidentally left behind. Rope, a tarp, etc. This was on the way. Unfortunately, before buying my supplies I had a rather urgent need to use the bathroom. I was told I couldn't because "for safety" they were restricting the bathroom to employees only. They directed me to the fast food place next door that was closed. As soon as I find somewhere I can go to the bathroom I'm heading to the nearest Home Depot where they don't lock you out of the restroom to avoid having to clean. read more

My neighbor was excited to score some LeCreuset items & support a local business although the prices are steep. She said there were bowls for only $10! I had to break the news that they were China-made knock offs. The bowls were placed in the same spot as the LeCreuset items, same shelf & in between different style bowls of LeCreuset. Talk about a sly deal. It really broke my friends heart & I was pretty disappointed, too. Way to class up the joint, Ace! read more

I went to Ace about a leaking kitchen faucet. Chick checked the info I brought from my kitchen remodel in 2007, and said I needed a cartridge. He introduced me to Dave, who handles plumbing orders. He spent a good half-hour ordering the part, a challenging item. He told me the part would arrive on Friday and they would call me. When it arrived at the store, I picked it up; but then I needed a plumber. Alby, the manager, recommended Tesla Plumbing, because they've never heard a complaint regarding their work. Tesla came yesterday and installed my part and did an excellent job. I had the right part and NO MORE DRIPPING FAUCET! Yay! Because I had been recommended by Ace, Tesla let me use MY part which was cheaper, AND I got a senior discount in my plumbing price!!! What a team effort and what excellent service all around! The man who answered the phone said no, they were completely out, but he had a couple in his possession. "Do you need one?" he asked. I said no I wanted one for an elderly lady that lives in his neighborhood. He said, "what's her address? I will take it over to her right now." And in 10 minutes he delivered it to her. Could not be happier with the service of everyone at Marin Ace...I ordered a grill over the phone and it was delivered the next day. THEN when it was too big for the space I called and asked to exchange it for a smaller model. NO PROBLEM! Absolutely the most courteous and responsive group of people I have dealt with for some time. Ever since I received the feedback of ownership, I have definitely noticed a change for the better. The staff are far more attentive and I have had only positive experiences since then. This is definitely proof that there are owners out there who care deeply about their businesses and ultimately their customers as the change I have noted was dramatic and swift. Yelp is truly a great way to communicate with business owners who care about the customer experience but may not know that anything is currently lacking. My strong desire to support local businesses ultimately brought me back here for a second chance and I was not disappointed in the slightest with the changes I have personally experienced. GREAT COSTOMER SERVICE! I went into ace Marin cause I had to get some things that the Home Depot didn't have. Chris, the manager, was so helpful and all the staff there is knowledgeable.. He explained how to use the things he helped me pick out and he cut a weather door sweep down to size for me. I'm never going to the home Depot again now that I have ace. Also when I was in there my dog got sick and I offered to clean it up but they insisted that it was alright and they'd be take care of it. Great costumer service! read more

I would like to be able to feel good about shopping and supporting local small biz ..But not if it is going to be outrageously priced.. today went in to buy a package of landscape staples (had previously bought some from Home Depot for $2.48. Marin ACE had the SAME package for (are u ready?) == $4.99 TWICE as much... My experience in the past was that I knew this store was a bit more than most BUT this one finally did it... The folks are friendly and helpful but frankly so are the folks at Lowes or Friedmans... Soooo disappointed read more

I've been here a couple times by now and they're great. Every sales associate I've talked to has been very knowledgeable and helpful. They're always willing to show me exactly what I should get for what I want to do, and also where to find it.
