This place *almost* gets what it means to be a good coffee shop: reasonably good coffee, some simple food, a fair bit of seating - and critical for me to even consider it: free wifi and almost enough power outlets.... They fail to understand that I really (really) don't want to be bombarded by their taste in live entertainment. It's a deal killer - I can't spend anytime there, or tell friends to meet me there because I have no idea when the bad, loud music will begin. There are plenty of better places in the Ross Valley/San Rafael area to hang out in....until they realize what I don't want in a coffee shop, they have lost my business. read more

Marin Coffee Roasters is a classic coffee house with a warm relaxed atmosphere in the heart of San Anselmo. It's the best breakfast experience around with everything from croissants to fantastic omelets, and they top it off with live blues/jazz music on weekends. I don't drink coffee but they have a decent selection of teas. Yes, there is the regular bicycle crowd and the twenty-something Marinite moms who meet with their mega strollers right in the middle of the aisle, but there are also the non-pretentious buddies...old friends who meet in the morning and afternoon to stay in touch, laugh and share a story or two. The food is acceptable. But the biggest negative that makes me think twice about going there (and has on more than one occasion made me walk out without buying anything) is the live music. The bands are local and mostly talented, but the acoustics in the place are horrendous. It would be perfectly ok for a single acoustic guitar player, but a jazz, or folk trio, fully amped, in a plaster walled room, at 10 in the morning is just painful to any ear with any sensitivity left to it. Unless I am at a live concert, I want my music to be in the background, not sitting on my last nerve. I am anxious to see what the new coffee place across the street will offer as far some place to have a quiet conversation with friends once they open up. read more

This is the best coffee served by the best people. A close-knit community of regulars - young and old and everything in between. Really good breakfasts, salads, and homemade pastries. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and clean except I will say they need to keep the counter clean where you put sugar/milk in your coffee. This is my go to coffee shop now. I don't know the workers name but he has a beard and usually works here on Fridays when I come. He always asks how you're doing, what else he can do for you and always has a smile on his face. They keep the pastries fresh, the breakfast sandwiches are divine and the lattes are amazing. It's a great place to do homework on your laptop, have some coffee with some friends and sit outside, enjoy the outdoors and read a book with your latte. Even the customers are always generous to each other. All around this is one of the most positive atmospheres I have been to. I've sat down and had conversations with some of the customers here. Every time I come in there are only ever one or two people in front of me. I highly recommended this cute coffee shop. It all comes down to some good coffee, great staff and friendly customers and this is the place to go. read more

Found this place while on a bike ride. The smell of the coffee drew us in. Had a soy mocha ( probably one of the best mochas that I ever had ) We tried one of the specials, turkey chili.. why not. The chili tasted fresh and with effort put into it, like a chili cook off , served with a slice of grilled garlic toast. The turkey, BLT , was nothing short of yummy. Marin Coffee Roasters is a great find, nice people, excellent coffee drinks and , surprisingly fantastic food.. p.s. the pastries are memorable ( had the fresh apricot cobbler with my mocha ... pure attitude adjustment.. in a good way ) read more

I used to like this Coffee Roasters. They do have a couple pretty good pastries, but their coffee never fails to give me a stomachache (very strong.) The best part about this place, though, is the live music. Every Saturday morning from 10 till 12 PM, there's a great rockabilly-funk band that plays. It's good to see some live music in little San Anselmo for once. read more

Crowded, overpriced and this morning they cured me of my addiction to chai lattes by serving me one that was made with sour, curdled soy milk. I would have been yelping in person if I hadn't already driven away when I discovered how nasty my chai tasted. I have to say that most of this rating is for service. I only tasted some of my companions food so that I could rate on that too, I ended up going down the street to get food because they were so rude I refused to spend my money there. I promise to make this as short as I can. Basically I went there with a group of about five women from my family. We were indecisive at first so we let the three people behind us go in front of us since they looked like they knew what they wanted and we didn't want to do that "ummm...what do I feel like today" thing that just pisses everyone off. Of course by the time the first person we let pass started ordering we knew what we wanted but what the heck. So we are all ordering and paying for ourselves and the guy at the register starts taking orders from the man behind me! Skipping my aunt ahead of me, my sister after her and myself. WTF, ok, true I tend to get irritated by bad service, so I allow my sister to convince me that perhaps it was a mistake. So we wait until the guy takes his order and then my sister politely answers when the guy looks away from us as if we weren't there and asks who is next "I'm sorry we have been waiting" except she doesn't get to finish because the guy decides that the woman behind the man who was behind me is next and takes her order! The woman looks a little confused and then places her order as I tell my sister I am leaving and walk down the street just around the corner to the cute little mom and pop "Hilda's Cafe" (or something very similar to that name". The woman there welcomed me very nicely and the cooks were pretty darn quick with my food which I had to take to go since I was so stubborn as to get my food somewhere other then where my family was (cash only). I tasted some of their food and I grudgingly admit it wasn't bad, not great or anything but definitely not inedible. I am willing to admit it may taste better when not tainted with the bitterness of injustice! (sarcasm). read more
