I stopped by this shop at 10:3AM to complete a private party transfer, and the experience was incredibly disappointing. The store was empty, yet I was told they wouldn't process the transfer without an appointment--and they're apparently booked out until June. What made it worse was the complete lack of effort or customer service. There was no attempt to help, no flexibility, and not even a basic effort to engage as a customer. I was fully prepared to make additional purchases (like a case and ammo for my new firearm), but no one even asked. It felt dismissive and unprofessional. The worst possible experience imaginable! I had them handle a private party sale for me. They held my weapon for 10 days as is customary during a buyer background check. BUT when the buyer failed the B/C , they held my gun for "ransom" and refused to return it to me unless I paid them $198.00! AND wait another 10 days! Pure EXTORTION! When I called three other gun dealers in the area, they all said that what Marin Firearms was doing was illegal and that they should release my gun immediately. I have filed a complaint with the Marin District Attorney. The two guys at Marin Firearms are complete crooks/extortionists! They cannot be trusted. By far the most helpful and welcoming staff I've dealt with in the Bay Area (especially hard to find in this climate). Trevor made me feel comfortable asking questions, even when I initially came in to just buy ammo for a rifle I have being transferred to another shop. (Other stores in the area turned me down since I wasn't buying a firearm from them, or simply treated me so poorly that I turned away). Their collection of various lever action rifles and friendly, no pressure environment had me back in there the next day to pick out a beautiful 24" Winchester 73' that caught my eye the day before. My friend and I found revolvers we we've been looking for. No one has them in stock at any price. I was wary of trying to find an FFL to do the PPT. I called Marin Firearms. Got an answering machine that directed me. Yes they do PPT. No appointment. Due to the current Covid climate they are suffering like all retailers, restaurants, any business these days, they can't find anyone who wants to work. Free money keeps a lot of people couched and stoned. They only do transfers on Thursdays. We met at 11am right at opening. There were a couple other customers waiting as well. Trevor greeted us at the gun counter. We discussed what we needed. He gave us a concise outline of what we needed and issued us the forms we needed to fill. He processed us efficiently and patiently. My friend first and then myself. The whole while there were customers waiting for their turn. They are very busy. They are very understaffed. They are doing the very best that they can. I am thankful AF that we have them in Marin county no less. So much paperwork, they have to be thorough. They are very! My 10 days passed and we returned on a Tuesday to pick up the goods. Still busy. Trevor greater us and remembered to two revolver dudes. In the meantime they received their shipment of 38spl and 357magnum! The only place I've seen 357 on the shelf in about 1.5 years. Not Nevada, none in Oregon, nowhere near the bay. I grabbed a box of 357 and a sweet holster. In closing I'd like to emphasize we are lucky to have Marin Firearms. We are lucky to have Trevor and his staff to assist us. I am sorry I didn't get the guy's name who helped us as well. Very short hair, super helpful and jovial young man. Great staff. Great selection, especially considering the current political climate and supply issues. They had ammo on the shelf. They had a pretty dark hood selection of arms on the shelf. Overall great experience. Came here for a PPT. While I was there, noticed they had a Springfield Custom Shop, Ed Brown and other nice guns. Good overall selection. Ended up buying one of their used guns they had for sale. They were able to help me on the price. read more

Called and made an appointment for several personal transfers. Walked in at opening. Said good morning and I was just looked at without any response. Then we displayed the pistols to transfer. First he demanded the magazines to be present and accompanied which is bogus. Since the transfer is on the pistol not the mags. After supplying them, we where told that the limit is 3 transfers. We had 4. So I offered to pay a extra $100 for the trouble. The younger guy that pretended to be with with authority went on the lecture that paperwork shuts gun stores down and it would take 2-3 hours and it wouldn't be fair to all the other customers. Not one other person was in the store except for the 3 employees. It was several times suggested to go elsewhere. Even though I found several colts I was considering of picking up aprox 10k worth I wouldn't doo business with them if it was the last gun store in the state. Ended up driving to G4 Firearms in Larkfield. The relatively new store was clean and inviting. The gentleman and lady there where an absolute pleasure to work with. The whole transaction only took 37min to be exact. So either go to G4 or sportsmans arms!!! read more

This is the only gun shop in Marin County and it's worth checking out ( Big 5 doesn't count). They have cleaned the place up and it has a solid inventory of pistols, rifles and shotguns. They keep regular hours, handle paperwork efficiently and are knowledgable. Wow. So I was in the market for a home defense shotgun. Me and my friend (my friend knows a LOT about shotguns, firearms etc and I know a bit as well) walked into to this tiny shop. After a while we were asked if we needed help. I said i wanted a shotgun for home defense etc and he just said "our pistol grips are on the end." This did not answer any of my questions. We then tried asking what brand certain guns were and prices, but they were too busy cracking racist jokes at the people walking in the shopping center outside. If you know what you want, have no questions, don't mind blank stares and are willing to pay any amount, then this is your kind of place. I'd be the first one to say keep your business local, but not after several bad experiences at this firearms store. 1. Employees are not friendly. 2. It appears like the employees don't want to answer questions or offer any information. 3. The place seems like a dark hole. Add some lights! 4. Prices are way to high on some items, but reasonable on others. 5. This place has a look and feel like it's going out of business. It's bad enough that there are some seriously misplaced opinions and laws concerning firearms in California, and it doesn't help when a first-time gun buyer has to deal with establishments such as MCA. It's places like MCA that deter law abiding citizens from purchasing firearms when they should be fostering a friendly and helpful atmosphere that promotes gun ownership and dispels the prejudice against firearms. I want to order a custom Tony Kidd 10/22 receiver. I had checked with Bullseye, but they wanted $150 plus DROS to have the receiver shipped there unless I joined their $600 annual gun club. In that case it would only be $75 for one transfer per year. Yes I understand they are in the business to sell guns, but they don't carry Kidd products. Please understand that I have nothing against Bullseye. However in this particular instance they simply were not able to fulfill my needs. I still shop there. So I decided to visit Marin County Arms. Unlike Bullseye who is trying to attract the masses to shooting (good in my opinion), Marin County Arms IMO appears to be targeted (no pun intended) to the shooter who is more than likely experienced and a hunter, not a hole puncher. I am a bay area native, raised in San Jose. I am tired of all the PC garbage that attempts to ensure no one gets hurt, but in the process hurts everyone's feelings.. I found it refreshing to walk into a place where I didn't have to worry if a curse word came out of my mouth. Yes, if you walk into a good ol' boys environs you're going to hear off color jokes, etc. Look where you are, its a gun shop. When I walked in I was dressed city boy. Yes I got the eye, but they promptly and courteously asked if they could provide any assistance. When I explained what i was looking for they realized I knew what I was after and was obviously a reasonably seasoned shooter. If you're asking for a custom 10/22 receiver you're talking about building a .22 rifle with a cost of well over $1,200. You either shoot competitively or shoot ground squirrels at 100-125 yards. I'm the latter. They explained their transfer fee was $85 plus DROS and handed me their card so that I could provide the information to Kidd Products. Simple and courteous. Their gun prices seemed reasonable to me, and in fact many were cheaper than Bullseye, a few were higher. Okay, sounds like most stores, cheaper on some, a little more on others. As for those who can find accessories online for cheaper, DUH....The internet provides no advise, no customer service and isn't there to help you when you have a problem fitting or adjusting something. Marin County Arms (or any other brick and mortar retailer for that matter) is there to assist you with experience and knowledge. Do you expect that to be free? Rarely will a B&M retailer be able to match internet prices day to day. They have a retail store to pay for, not a warehouse at $.15/sq ft. As for me I will happily return to Marin County Arms to purchase guns from them. They're real shooters who understand ballistics beyond 25 yards and know hunting. Heck (I'll say "hell" there) we can even pass a little time exchanging hunting stories. read more

The majority of negative reviews are accurate. This hole in the wall shop is awful. I went in once, and the minute I admitted I was new to guns, the asshats who run this place treated me like dirt. The old guy didn't do anything but bitch about how lame Marin is, how CA sucks because of it's gun laws. Being a local, I got fed up fast and said, "If you hate it so much here, why haven't you left?" The rest of the jerks sat around with tons of attitude and were unhelpful to say the least. Marin County Arms, if a person comes in who has their shit together and is interested in purchasing, you may want to treat him with politeness and basic courtesy. I was born in San Francisco and raised in Marin my entire life. I've been a vegetarian for over twenty years, believe in animal rights (and really like most animals more than most people), have traveled the world, speak three languages and enjoy (and exercise) my right to bear arms. A conundrum right?! Bet you thought only rednecks and people without education loved guns-especially in Northern California. Funny when stereotypes-although frequently usable-are not true! After enjoying an afternoon my husband and I decided the drive up to toasty hot Novato and visit Marin County Arms which we had never been to. Their selection was meaty considering supply availability in California is not on the purchasers side these days. The owner, Rick, and his awesome staff of the day (Kathleen) completely made our day. Not only was Rick hilarious (you've gotta appreciate dark humor here folks) but extremely well versed in all of his products and even custom ordered something for my husband (a service which was not even offered at another local gun shop). Being a petite female not all gun shops pull their high end pieces out for us to see without being a known client beforehand and Rick pulled out all the stops, answering both my and my husbands questions about everything and more. He helped readjust my handgrip so I was more stable on a new Sig that I ended up taking home. Even before we handed over the credit cards (which we did as we purchased two pieces from them today) Rick was attentive. I wonder if his deadpan humor and even tone is not understood by all. By the end of the day we were all cracking up and looking forward to coming back (which we will in May) for new additives to our arsenal. And folks-the California gun laws (which include Marin County of course).are difficult in comparison to many other states. We have special guns made just for our rules and many companies aren't even shipping to California right now (with one year or two year waits on companies like CZ and many others). Such an odd set of comments coming from a county that has the highest amount of gun holders per capita (as told to me by a gun salesman in Marin County who did not work at Marin County Arms today). read more

A friend was at the end of his DROS and was picking up his firearm. I tagged along with him to purchase some accessories. During my short visit, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and rated them three stars. Pros: -The price of my friend's handgun purchase. This was one of the only decently priced handguns there. -The selection of their firearm accessories. -The staff; very cordial and helpful when you needed advise. Cons: -The prices of their firearms. The prices were pretty high on their firearms, except some of their handguns. -The prices of their accessories. I was very happy when I saw a Sig Mosquito magazine for sale, but I was dumbfounded when I saw the price tag=$50.00. I can purchase that same magazine for $30.00 on http://www.topgunsupply.com. This store has an excellent selection of firearm accessories, but with that selection, comes the price that I am not willing to pay. I went to this store a couple of times a few years ago and found the store badly laid out with a poor selection of firearms. The people that worked there barely acknowledged your existence when you walked through the door and never offered any assistance. I heard that the store had been purchased and the new owner had changed the layout of the store, increased the inventory and was working to change the old reputation of poor service. I've been in twice during the last couple of months and have found a whole new store. Great inventory and friendly staff that are genuinely interested in helping you. Check it out.
