I bought a 30 lbs bow from West Coast Archery almost a year ago. Like an idiot, I dropped the bow several times to the point where the bow flipped on me. I tried restringing it myself, but only made it worse. On a whim I brought the bow back to see if I could get a replacement under warranty. They sent my bow back to the manufacturer no questions asked. Several months later I got a call that my bow had returned fully repaired. I even tried tipping the salespeople for their service, but they politely declined. If you are serious about archery or just want to get started the right way, this is the place. I have been to several archery pro shops in California and I will never go anywhere else. I drive from Monterey County to Petaluma several times a year because Hans, Rudy, and the rest of the crew are the best. They listen to you and care about your success. I just had a piece of equipment fail after almost a year of hard use and Hans told me that it was covered under warranty and replaced it with a brand new one for free. I was looking for a new archery shop as that last one I used closed. I went in For a string and wanted a new set of limbs on my 10 year old Mathews Z7. Hans greeted me and was friendly and very helpful. He had the bow restrung and new limbs ordered and installed within two weeks. The bow shoots great and his prices were spot on. Not that they need any more great reviews, but I'm doing it anyway. Hans and the entire staff are super helpful, friendly and above all, knowledgeable. I've bought a couple of recurves, arrows and various accessories, but my recent experience tuning my compound was really great. I'm a tinkerer, I own my own guitar repair shop, and like to work on my own stuff, but I have no bow press, and I realize now that I don't know jack compared to this crew. Hans was really open to my ideas about how I would like my bow set up, and he was very gracious with his time in getting it there. This place is so unique. Plenty of parking in the back. The shop is located in the back behind the nursery. The range consists of 5 lanes and Pete is such a delight to have as an instructor. He's so passionate for the sport and really helped us beginners get a feel for how to properly hold, aim, and shoot the bow and arrow. Got me feeling confident like Jennifer Lawrence in the hunger games by the end. $20 for gear rental and quality time on the range. What a deal! We were lucky to come during a down time on a weekday and had the whole place to ourselves, but I could imagine a busy day being tight and cramped, I believe they have some sort of appointment system for the lanes. The service here is top notch and I don't know much about archery but I could tell this is the place to go! read more

Top five things you'll care to know: 1) Parking is easy and available. 2) Lanes are great and the instructors and shop people are so nice...and funny but never mean. 3) They helped me pick out my first ever archery set up. Recurve! woot! 4) I think I got an upgraded string but my wife didn't...I dunno why they didn't ask her if she wanted one. Maybe cause they were like, "That lady is way better than that guy...he needs an upgraded string." Either way, I think it made my wife feel a little bad. 5) They helped me pick out arrows but I didn't get a choice...now I realized they gave me the Bentley of arrows. They are so good that even I can tell the difference between the crappy practice ones I ordered online. This is both a plus and a minus...wish I could have started with something a little more middle of the road. Now my super arrows are the only ones I want to shoot...haha read more

Great service, friendly helpful atmosphere, and very talented staff! About a year ago I went to the other local shop in Santa Rosa and bought two Hoyt bows only because west coast wasn't a dealer quite yet. What a mistake!! All they did was take the bows out of the box. I couldn't find out why my aim was so bad! I could not get a good grouping! Same with my Girlfriend who I got the other bow for. Hans At West Coast Archery took the time to fix the timing, tune the bow and adjusted them to us. My draw length was fine, but I know what mine is supposed to be. My Girlfriends bow was set up by the other shop, about 2 inches too long for her. (facepalm) Now, we're getting great groups like we should have been all along! I may have been hunting and shooting bows for 20 plus years, but I've never been good at the fine tuning, thanks to Hans and West Coast Archery I don't have to! BTW: They also have another store in Dixon, the staff there is really friendly also! Both locations have nice, well lit and clean indoor ranges. read more

Best archery shop in the Bay Area...BY FAR.

Had a living social deal for a 1-hour archery lesson that I gave as a family Christmas gift last year. Expiration date was coming up fast, so we booked an appointment. Ease and friendlieness of booking was 5 stars. My group of 4 shared space with another group of 3. We were one person over the number of lanes, but we made it work by trading off. I'd never held a bow and arrow before in my life, but had always wanted to try. It was as fun as I'd hoped it would be, and I did really well right out of the gate. My daughter was a natural as well. I'm seriously considering lessons for the 2 of us. It isn't the most convenient place since it's about 25 minutes from home, but I'll give it a good look to see how we can make it work. I could see it becoming a serious hobby. The lesson, while only an hour, was informative, and our instructor (i forgot her name) was pretty quiet on the whole, but you could tell she really knows her stuff. I had a great experience at this shop, first time coming and it won't be my last. I'm a beginner and brought my bow to another shop to have a peep sight and d loop installed and it was a mess. The original install from the other shop was totally wrong. I took my bow in at about 515pm and he fixed it properly, fixed some other minor issues and only charged me $10 for the work. I even got to try it out and purchased some new arrows that were much better than what I had. read more

I've been coming here for a few months to use the range and finally bought a new bow through them.  Hans, the owner, and Pete set me up and the bow shoots wonderfully.  After shooting the bow for a few weeks I noticed a small crack in the riser, and after showing it to Hans and Adrienne, Hans immediately replaced it - excellent customer service!!  I'm glad I bought the bow through them, not only for their expert set-up knowledge, but also the support that follows from working with a local business. read more

Hans is the best! Went in not knowing if I wanted a Hoyt or Mathews, so he just strung them up and let me shoot both. He talked to me for an hour or so and gave me some great info. I ended up buying a friends bow who was in need of money, but Hans offered me a tremendous deal on the bows that he had (less than I could find anywhere else). Took my son for an afternoon lesson, as he has asked me for a long time to learn to shoot. I decided to take one as well. We had an absolute blast! Instructor was patient and kind and really one his stuff. Plus he was great with my kid. Great way to be introduced to hopefully a lifelong father/son activity. Will be using the shop for itself for future gear needs as we progress. The shop appeared clean, staff was attentive without being pushy. Bought my bow on ebay and had NO idea what I was doing except my brother pointed me to the right bow. Went into the shop and the guys not only checked the bow out to make sure it was in GOOD usable condition, but they adjusted the draw length and check the draw weight for my use. Guess what, they wouldn't let me pay for the service....So, I bought a practice block and I plan on returning to join the range. Great crew.... Thanks guys !! read more

A friend and I went into this shop a few weeks ago to purchase our first bows. This shop was awesome. It's big with a lot of different brands and merchandise. Everything was organized and easy to look through. When choosing our bows he answered all of our questions and sounded really Knowledgeable. He didn't try to push any particular bow on us, he just wanted us to pick the most comfortable bow. We shot few different bows but walked out with a Hoyt and a Mathews. They also have an indoor range that fits 10 shooters. I haven't seen a lot of ranges but this one seemed really nice. I went back yesterday for him to increase the weight a little and he was just as helpful as the first day. Asked me questions about the bow and made a few tweaks. Overall great shop, I won't be going anywhere else. read more

It was my boyfriend's birthday and so I wanted to surprise him with archery classes. We got a sweet deal for group lessons ($25.00 per person w/ rental) and our trainer was pretty bad-ass. He was a senior who practiced archery for many, many years and enjoyed teaching the class. Despite how he was very attentive and detail-oriented, he gave us a ton of pointers to help improve our target aim. At the end of the night, my boyfriend and I had a wonderful time together and am planning on coming back! read more

Hate yelp but I had to leave these guys 5 stars but i can tell it dont even matter since everyone leaves them 5 stars anyway. Bought two pse nighthawk recurve bows. Not sure who the guy was might be hans but not only did he set me up perfectly he answered all my questions didnt get annoyed that i was a rookie. It was one of the better customer experiences ive had in my life buying stuff. Gave me a mini lesson, set the bow up for me answered all my questions was super cool. Bows are gorgeous and without issue. Slings arrows so fast and true makes me wanna jump and holler and marvel at human ingenuity. I straight up feel like a Comanche warrior hunting my prey but really im just a humble target shooter tired of paying money for ammo and gun ranges among other problems ive had lately with firearms. But with these nighthawks i could probably be a Comanche warrior now I will not be going to any other archery shops no need . Only way i go somewhere else is if they are out of stock or do not carry something but i would always start with west coast archery before going anywhere else read more

If you are just getting into achery like I am or have been doing it for years you need to support these guys. I never write reviews just not my thing but these guys deserve it. They totally set me up with my bow. Told me to ignore names and just go with what feels right so I did and could not be happier with my bow. I have been in multiple times for different accessories and advice always feel welcome. In fact my wife likes them as well (she's not into achery, yet...) I went in to by a product to help me with an issue I was having and they talked me out of it. Had me shoot a few arrows and gave me advice on how to correct my form and sent me on my way. Adrienne, Hans, and Rudy have a customor for life. I have to drive an hour and half plus to get there but won't go anywhere else. When was the last time business made you feel this way? Great Archery Shop! I first went to West Coast Archery about a year ago to buy my step-son his first bow. At that time, the only thing I knew about archery was that you pull on a string and the arrow goes flying. That and you never buy an off the shelf bow because a bow has to be sized to you. Hans was extremely helpful and explained everything at my level. He got my step-son set up with his first bow and got it set up perfectly. I returned with a new bow I bought from a friend, which he corrected and matched to my draw length. When my 12 yo son wanted to start archery, they set him up with lessons in their indoor range. The archery instructor was very helpful, courteous, and friendly as she worked with my son. He will be getting his first bow from here for Christmas. Overall, this archery shop is by far the best place I have been to. All of the staff treat you like you're family (better than some of my family). They are very knowledgeable, honest, and do not push any products you don't need. I strongly recommend beginners and experts drop in to check this place out. This was hands down one of the best toy buying experiences I have ever had. I had been seriously considering buying a bow for a while now, saved my pennies and finally headed out to Petaluma. I had read plenty of these prior yelp reviews and knew that Hans would be worth my 2.5 hr drive. There was no disappointment. Hans and Pete helped me out throughout the entire experience. Obviously gave me the correct draw length and proper set up on my first bow rig. They took time to thoroughly answer my questions as well as let me try out several bows. I left West Coast with a Matthews and couldn't be happier. I was in such a good mood I didn't even mind the 3 hr drive back home in traffic. I truly can't say enough about this place! After having two horrible experiences with local shops (where I live) that botched my bow I was starting to doubt that I would ever find someone I could trust. I reached out to my hunting club and was quickly overloaded with recommendations for West Coast Archery. I contacted them and spoke with Hans (owner) and explained what my issues were and he assured me, as did his wife, that he could fix it. It was a little further than I wished to drive but for the experience and service I received I would have driven twice the distance! As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a friendly smile and instantly felt comfortable. The shop is very clean and it's obvious that Hans and Adrienne take pride in their business. Hans took my bow right away and went to work, explaining everything he was doing along the way. He was very thorough and patient while answering all of my questions.
