Ahi was a bit stiff -- Bland Scallop -- worst I've ever had, bitter almost Salmon -- thankfully this was redeeming, it was average at least Yellowtail -- fine Overall, had to let it go with a piece of tuna, the rest of the scallop and a yellow tail. The salmon was good enough to finish. Not a review for in-person dining but when I was eating it, I rated it in my head and was like hm okay a solid 3.2/5, but by the end maybe a 2.6/5 Wouldn't order here again but I've been told it is good in person so it might be worth considering if you're around that area read more

I really wanted to like Marina Sushi Bar, but unfortunately my recent takeout order was a total letdown. I ordered their combo - beef teriyaki, rice, and a side salad - and honestly, it looked and tasted like it was thrown together without care. There was really only 2 piece of beef (that was overcooked) and the rest was all fat. Looks like someone's leftovers with just a puddle of overly salty soy sauce sitting at the bottom. The rice was overcooked and bland, topped with some sesame seeds that didn't help much. And the "salad" was just dry shredded cabbage with a few carrot strips and too much dressing. I wasn't sure if the place was a good option, once I tried wow, food was very good, I tried a couple rolls and both was great!

Came here on a Saturday night close to 8 pm and the place was completely empty. Seemed like maybe a later night and younger crowd that dines here because a bunch of people who looked barely out of college popped in closer to 9 pm. The sushi was very mid as someone else commented previously. Our server seemed new and needed to look at his copy of the menu to write down anything we ordered and was confused which sake we wanted to order even though we pointed it on the menu to him exactly which one we wanted. I think there are better sushi options in the Marina and pricing seemed a bit high for a very standard maki. I'm not much of a takoyaki fan to begin with, but I remembered trying to look for the octopus bit in the giant dough and there was just ONE very teeny piece in it. Great food and staff. Go for the all you can eat offer for $50. I recommend starting your dinner early because at night it turns into a bar vibe. The sushi rolls were wonderful to eat. Pro hack is you can ask the sushi chef to turn any role into a hand roll. My only complaint is that the tuna was a bit frozen and watery. It looked too pink for me when it really should be a darker red color. I wished they served tea as well. My favorites were the salmon, scallops eel, and Uni with all high-quality. I can't exactly give five stars because all I ate were two $3 orders of happy hour California rolls (4 pcs each) which you really cannot mess up (unless you are Whole Foods, they make Cali rolls all sorts of wrong), happy hour seaweed salad ($3), and a good amount of sake & Sapporo. However, this basic food that I ordered was very fresh and tasty! I came in on a Friday night. Happy hour on Friday goes until 7pm which is pretty solid. I'm a fan already. When we arrived around 5:30pm, the place was empty and very quiet. But after an hour or two, this place was bumping! By bumping, I mean PACKED with huge parties doing sake bombs. It was a little bit "ratchet," but I fully enjoyed the entertainment. That being said, if you want a quiet dinner with your significant other, arrive early because otherwise this probably isn't your place. The inside decor is nothing special. It looks a little worn down like the rest of SF, with little photos of happy customers at their tables all over the walls. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food given the stories I'd been told about how people come here to get a little crazy with the sake. From my experience, alcohol heavy restaurants rarely have good food. Marina Sushi is different. I would happily return to try out some more rolls in the future. read more

The food is incredible, the service was lacking. Our first dish, pictured, was one of the most amazing dishes that I ever had. Our second one was good as well. We went on a Saturday night. They were packed with a lively crowd, very hip for certain. I liked the atmosphere, it was lively. Where they lost a lot of points was in the attention they gave us. I understand and was impressed at how well they seemed to serve everyone else. It would have been understandable, but I even asked, and the lady told me it was typical for a weekend night. For whatever reason we patiently sat for a very long time before a lady staff member noticed and asked the chef to get our order done. The first dish came out shortly thereafter, and then we patiently waited again. Then the bill came unexpectedly. We told them we hadn't received the second dish, and then instead of bringing our food out, we got a bull for just the one item. I told them we were actually still hungry and wanted the second dish. I really can't explain why they kept neglecting our order, since we were sitting at the sushi bar right in front of the chefs. I would have happily given the place 5 stars, but the literally went out of their way to earn a mediocre score, even not making eye contact when I thanked them out of politeness. Large bottles are 6.75ish and the regular bottles are 4.xx; so it's a good deal to go drinking. House sake is also 50% off, but I'm not a big sake drinker, passed this time. Might be a good place to sake bomb. Next on the happy hour, is sushi. They have 3 hand rolls, and the rest are sashimi on rice. Each sashimi on rice comes with 2 pieces, and the hand rolls are well, hand rolls, OR 4 piece sushi. Each order is $2. A friend said the fish wasn't super fresh, but for $2 dollars, it's worth it. It was fairly empty on friday night at 6-7pm. Service picked up just a little bit as we left around 8pm. The music was kind of nice for me. Kick back with some emo music. They had some 98 degrees - I do, kelly clarkson - break away, lonestare - amazed, whitney houston - I will always love you, backstreet boys - drowning. Yes, I recognize it all. Some one else at our table doesn't really like this kinda music, but its nice for me once in a while. Lighter music. Boyfriend ordered the chirashi which had 9 pieces of sashimi placed on top of a small scoop of rice with vegetables and roe on the side. Presentation was lacking and it was the smallest chirashi I've ever seen. My friend had the nigiri combo and a roll. I'd say his dishes were better. The service was okay. Our dishes came out at separate times. It seems as though the restaurant is run by a bunch of young guys. The décor was lacking and the music was loud. I love this place. Conveniently located on Lombard near Fillmore, this is my favorite neighborhood spot. They have a great selection of options ranging from bento boxes to speciality rolls. Great cold sake at affordable pricing. Their sushi is alway very fresh and sitting at the counter with the warm and wonderful owner/Chef is a weekly ritual. Well, it's family owned, these peeps are working hard and they have one of the most economical happy hours in the neighborhood. The nigiri is $2/piece from 5-7pm and it's well worth the visit!
