I would like to say that I was skeptical about this business because of the bad yelp reviews. I read through most of them and they are very conflicting! Most people say they are really good, yet some leave 1 stars. I will say that most of the 1 stars are for petty things. Seems like maybe they have scheduling issues at times. However my experience was amazing. I knew I had to get my house tented, and there was a ton of wood damage everywhere. I wanted to get a company that had its own staff carpenters instead of contracting everything out, which Mariners has. First I will say that their carpenters are very skilled. They fixed more than I paid for even! Definitely master craftsmen. The tent company that they use were extremely professional and flexible. Lastly, the guy who came out and gave the estimate was very reasonable and I believe I got a killer deal for the amount of wood that they had to repair. He spent a ton of time walking around my house and had great attention to detail. All in all, I would recommend these guys for sure. Have been a customer with Mariner's Pest Control in Lake Forest since 2019. I originally came to them for annual termite treatments. When some damaged eaves were discovered, they gave me an excellent plan diagram showing how damaged eaves would be replaced. They did the treatment quickly and efficiently. Most recently, the latest termite treatment showed more extensive work would be needed for dry rot in the eaves, probably not helped by all the rain over the years. Much as I wanted to ignore, I knew this would have to be repaired. The estimate was detailed, required extensive repair and was significant dollar-wise. I signed a contract and gave a deposit check to schedule repairs on March 5th. On March 10, the announced presidential foreign tariffs caused extensive stock market losses in my account. I called on March 10, which was outside the cancellation window of three business days, and said I had to cancel the upcoming repairs because my stock losses caused the money to no longer be available. After back and forth discussions with Nathan, the owner, he agreed to refund the initial deposit of $1500 even though I was outside the cancellation window. I very much appreciated that, although outside the cancellation limit, he was willing to refund the deposit which he was not required to legally do. With hope that the market will recover soon, I plan on scheduling the needed repairs this summer. read more

Absolutely awful. No call, no show! Very unprofessional! We had a confirmed appointment for Saturday morning and no one called or showed up. When we called the receptionist to see when they will be there, all she could do it write a note to customer service and ask them to call me. After 20 minutes with no call, we called back and the receptionist again said all she could do was put in a note to have customer service call me. We told her that this is for a $3M escrow and is now going to cause issues for this transaction. The receptionist then said she would put in an emergency note so that someone would call asap. As of Monday afternoon, we finally receive a phone call from a man stating he "sent a text" to tell us he was not feeling well. After checking the texts, there was not a message from him. I asked why he would not have called but he continued saying "well i sent a text and there's a read receipt". Mind you, this is an office line and not an iPhone so there is no way that there could be a read receipt. I'd also love to point out the fact that both Yelp and their website states a "free inspection" but that is a lie as they charge you. This is by far the worst termite company I have ever worked with in my 8 years of being in real estate. read more

I'm mystified by the continued good reviews for this company. They treated my house in August of 2020 and everything seemed fine. The service was guaranteed for two years, with free follow-up inspections. I have scheduled four appointments for inspections without having any one come out. The first two times they called and said that they needed to reschedule. The third and fourth time they didn't even bother to call. The last time was particularly noteworthy because my call was picked up by a woman and then intercepted by a man who attempted to explain, at length, the life-cycle of the termite and why I didn't need the inspection promised under the contract. I insisted and got an appointment, and once again they didn't show and never contacted me. I understand that the last several years have been difficult for small business, but simply ghosting customers in this way is remarkably unprofessional. read more

I had an annual maintenance contract with Mariners for 7 years. The treatment my home received over the last two years was relatively nonexistent as evidenced by another company's assessment & Mariners own person following up. When their employee came out in August 2021 for the annual maintenance, I told him I wasn't going to sign up for a continuance of the contract until after service. He called the company & told them & the company told him to leave (without performing the work I'd already paid for). After an assessment by another termite company that showed extensive termite damage, I contacted Mariners & demanded the service paid for over the last several years. It was scheduled several times, in bits & pieces, only after my almost daily phone calls, and was finally completed on December 8 -- 4 months after originally scheduled. We used Mariners some time ago after seeing what we thought were termites. Our inspector contacted us before he got there and as I was on a tight schedule, he was on time. He did a thorough job of answering our questions with complete patience and confirmed that we have termites in our home. Our goal is of course to be termite free and we were given a quote and a termite solution that would work best for us. The work on our home on the day of the job, including team members, was very thorough, efficient and the team completely cleaned up everything after themselves very well. They were on time and finished on our home even a little bit before the initial estimated time. Since then we've had no issues and thankfully no termites. Mariners was aware of the broken tiles but never informed me, hoping I would not notice. They had a duty to inform me of the damage, in my opinion. The contract I signed had a clause that they are not responsible for broken tiles. That is fine if they break maybe 5-10 but NOT OVER 200. NEVER sign Mariners contract without coming to an agreement on how many tiles they are allowed to break. We came to a settlement agreement on the damage. Mariners was splitting the settlement with the company that did the work. The company that did the work paid me the next day. Mariners made promises to pay but never did. Okay, so where do I begin. I'll start off with the two out of six things that make your company unsuccessful 1.-Unprofessionalism and 2.- Poor customer Service, which this company has. #3. Not keeping Time Frame - They showed up at another time than the window time given, which brings me to #4- No Show- The employee never showed up. #5- No Communication- They never reached out to inform us that they weren't coming. And most importantly #6- Poor Job done. They sent out an employee who drilled holes onto a second floor hallway skylight window, left without saying or explaining anything and took off. Leaving exposed drilled holes in my home. I contacted the office immediately when I noticed them, by the second person I spoke to, recommended I put toothpaste to patch them up. I was completely shocked. Then she put the employee on 3 way and he claimed he covered the holes before he left. Basically saying I'm lying, like I would climb up a ladder, dig the holes out myself and do such a malicious act. I began seeing little piles of sand on my kitchen window sill. I assumed that my husband was making a mess cleaning his golf equipment, so I didn't bother with it. But the piles kept popping up, and I was like -- WTH is the husband up to. Then maybe a few days in, the husband was like "Dude, what's that stuff up on the ceiling??". There were a bunch of nasty little nests. Gosh it was the grossest thing. Seriously. We got on Yelp and contacted a bunch of pest control companies. And had three free estimates lined up the next day. I liked Mariners because the very very technical in their explanations so I understood the science based approach they would be using. Our termites were subterranean so we did not need a tenting. The owner is a Cal graduate, and super smart. His quote was reasonable in the same ball park as the others. But made me feel very comfortable. And he offered to replace some of the damaged wood that we discovered on the roof and one of the exterior wood panels. That was above and beyond what anyone else had offered and it meant a lot to us to be able to support a small local business. That's why we selected them. They came out a few days after. They bored small holes throughout the exterior of our house and injected the termicide. It took a good part of half a day, and the wood replacement took a few hours. The holes they made were no bigger than a nickel. The workers were professional and polite and knew their business. A few days after I had some termites crawling out of the ceiling and dropping down again. Freaked me out. But Nathan was very comforting, and offered to check in on the house while I was on vacation. I did not take him up on the offer, but the fact that he made the offer showed his level of customer service and his willingness to go the extra mile. He did end up sending in a technician to inject a bit more termicide in one area, and we are all done with termites. read more

Mariners Pest Control did an awesome job on our home. In preparation for exterior painting, we contacted several termite and pest control companies for a free home inspection and quote. In the end we selected Mariners as our contractor. While termites or termite damage were not found, there was an extensive amount of dry rot found that needed to be addressed prior to painting. Our inspector Shawn is very good. Shawn found damage that others did not see. He has a lot of experience and he has a good eye for spotting damage that some other inspectors miss. We later verified his findings and discovered that he was correct in his assessment. Mariners proposal was not the least expensive, but the best value. A couple of other firms quoted a little bit less, but their method for mitigating the dry rot damage was substandard. Mariners does not cut corners. If a fascia board is damaged, they replace the entire piece so as to not add more joints that can cause new problems in the future. Other companies just wanted to piece in a 4 foot or 6 foot section. We had two rafter tails that were also damaged by dry rot. Mariners is the only company that offered to repair this damage properly. They cut the rafters off flush with the house, then added a new rafter tail that extended into the attic twice the distance as the rafter projected outside of the house. This new piece was securely nailed alongside the existing rafter in the attic. Other companies just wanted to cut the damaged portion of rafter tail off and toe nail a piece of rafter tail to the cut off end of the original, which would have greatly diminished the rafter's ability to support the roof, possibly causing sagging of the fascia board and roof over time. Our repair crew varied from 2 to 4 people as the day progressed. One person, James, just took care of spraying our attic with Boracare, something we requested as a preventative measure against termites after a few wings were found in the attic. Shawn spent part of the day, first explaining to the crew everything that needed to be done, then helping out with some of the work. While replacing some wood around our balcony that had been repaired poorly by another firm some years back, Shawn discovered evidence of a water leak. He took the time to trouble shoot and find out where the water was infiltrating, which led him to finding an additional area of dry rot that no one had seen previously. Mariners dug out the deteriorated wood, treated the surface with chemical then filled-in the hole with Bondo, and finally sealed the flashing that was the source of the leak. They did a fabulous job of texturing the repair so that it matches the rough sawn look of the lumber. Once painted it will not show. Nefi and Jared were too other crew members who were outstanding. We were amazed at how quickly they were able to remove roof tiles, pull down a 14 foot long deteriorated fascia board that was about 25 feet above the ground and replace it with an exact match; reinstalling all of the tiles and assuring that everything was just like the original construction. They work at an incredibly fast pace, but their work is NOT sloppy. They are skilled and make sure that every repair is done perfectly. Everyone on the crew is smart, articulate, pleasant and eager to please. We enjoyed watching their performance and interacting with them. All the replacement wood is soaked with a termite preventative solution (Boracare) the day before it is brought to the job. Mariners primes all surfaces of every replacement board prior to installing. Later a second coat of primer is applied to all the exposed surfaces. The construction crew at Mariners makes sure that the job is done right! While working an area, if they find additional unanticipated damage or other problems or flaws that are causing the dry rot, they take care of it. They do not "nickel and dime" you with extra charges. They just do what is necessary to provide a quality job and to assure both the damage and the cause of the damage have been addressed. Other companies have a clause in their proposal that if they discover further findings there will be additional costs. We are recommending Mariners Pest Control to all of our neighbors. We will use Mariners again if the need arises. read more

Last week Mariners Pest Control assigned two of their San Diego-based carpenters to replace rotten and termite-damaged wood on my home. Nefi and Juan spent two days repairing my home using the detailed map drawn by Douglas Hatfield, who is based at Mariners office in Lake Forest in Orange County. In the past I've had my home tented twice to fumigate and exterminate termites. I've been reluctant to use the wood restoration services of pest control companies. They are notorious for only patching areas of wood rot and termite damage and doing the minimum to move on to the tenting phase. But Douglas Hatfield has devised a service that provides comprehensive restoration. Nefi and Juan arrived with a truck full of pressure-treated lumber, tools and supplies. They are skilled, experienced workmen adept at sawing wood, painting and chemically treating areas of termite infestation. Despite working long hours, Nefi and Juan were friendly, polite and professional. I appreciated that Nefi showed me a few, unexpected spots -- not on Doug's map -- that required replacement and treatment. They went above and beyond. Now that this long-deferred maintenance project is behind me, I have peace of mind. This kind of workmanship is pricey, but there is a three-year warranty. And customers are encouraged to call if any problems or signs of termites arise. read more

Would not recommend or use again. Used them the first time with no issues then when I used them a few years later (a few weeks ago) I did not have a good experience. Everyone you speak with will quote u a different price. I wish I wrote down what the final quote was because I do feel screwed. When I went to pay over the phone they said it would be $600, I said no way did I agree to $600 then they put the phone down and said it was a mistake they looked at the wrong account. She came back and said it's $350. I said that still seems too high. She then put the phone down again and came back and said, "sorry it's $300 I read the 5 wrong." This place seems way too shady, be careful and get everything in writing if u do go with them. They did a good job getting the rodent our of our home and garage. The issue I have is their follow up when we said there was an issue in the roof still they kept missing their appointments and would not show up. This is unprofessional when you offer to follow up part of the price and not follow up properly. What then it feels like is you come to get the money but when the job is not fully finished you don't show up because you've taken our money. They basically never came up for the follow up because they missed so many times we gave up. We now have to hire someone else new. The unfortunate part is we were planning to hire them to kill and tent for termites but because we got such bad service we will not be a returning customer. read more

Non-responsive, rude, unprofessional, ineffective. Just a few words to describe this company. I contracted with them several years ago to take care of a termite problem, which I THOUGHT they had done. They put me on an annual service contract. Several months ago, I noticed termite droppings coming from a door they had just treated. I called and had them come treat it again. By the time they got there, the casing on the door had been eaten away entirely about an inch and a half or so above the floor. I knew I was going to have to replace the casing, but what I DIDN'T bank on was that their so-called "treatment" didn't even last 90 days. When the contractor came last month to replace the casing, he pointed out that there were fresh termite droppings. So I couldn't have the casing replaced. See the picture attached to this review. This is INSIDE a house built in 2001. On October 17 I called for service, AGAIN. The earliest date they would give me was Friday, November 1 between 3-5 PM. I took the afternoon off work to go home and wait for them. THEY NEVER SHOWED UP, NEVER CALLED! A total waste of my time. Monday (Nov. 4), I called and confirmed they blew the appointment. No apology, just "we can reschedule for November 14". I asked to talk to the owner, Nathan. They told me he would be back tomorrow (Tuesday). I left him a message. No call back on Tuesday, so I called again. I spoke with the office manager. She told me Nathan would be back Thursday. I explained the situation and that the 14th didn't work because I was going out of town that morning. She told me she would "see what she could do" and would call me back. NO CALL BACK. Thursday (today) I called again, asked for Nathan. "He'll be back on Monday". When I complained that every time I call back the owner's availability keeps being just out of reach, the person I was speaking with got rude and said "He's not here. If you want you can leave a message." I didn't bother. I told her to let Nathan know he'd be getting reviews on why I've gone from repeat customer to dis-satisfied EX-customer. Then I hung up in her ear. I live in Los Angeles. When I first contracted with Mariner's, they must have been advertising in L.A. because I had no idea they were in San Diego County. They are obviously way too busy to service outside of their immediate area. So my advice is find a local L.A. company. That's what I'm going to do. But first, I want a complete refund of my annual maintenance fee for non-performance. We'll see how that goes. read more

Douglas, inspector, that provided estimate, checked infested areas, measurements, etc., is honest and upfront. The office called to schedule date (3 days) and followed up. Jeremiah, Alfonso, and Josh were the three sent to do the work. EXCELLENT employees of Mariners. They were courteous, respectful, and were always on time. On the third day and work was completed, Jeremiah walked me around and showed me where/what were done. They did more than expected.
