Finally decided to deal with an ongoing rodent problem in my basement, especially in light of the recent hantavirus stories in the news. I spent a comprehensive amount of time perusing all of the different options in Los Angeles -- there are a lot of options -- and finally decided upon Rodent Professor based upon proximity and reviews. I wanted an estimate not only on rodent prevention but also disinfecting the basement and vacuuming up the existing rodent droppings. Since this is the first time I have used such a service, I did not know what sort of cost was involved and was surprised to see online estimates ranging into the thousands of dollars, so I prepared myself for the assumed cost. Nate from Rodent Professor came out promptly at the appointed time and inspected the entire house -- basement, attic, inside the house itself -- and pointed out several potential points of entry into the basement and attic. Later in the day, I received an estimate via email that was in the expected cost range but at the lower end. I decided to proceed with the work. Nate and crew showed up promptly on time and were very efficient in screening all of the openings in the house, in addition to disinfecting the basement and vacuuming. Since their service, I've heard nothing and seen nothing in terms of rodent activity. Every now and again one or two get in but never in the house itself. I believe they have done their best and are always available to recheck. We have a small critter problem and set up some cameras outside in our patio/excercise area to see what was leaving the droppings. On camera I couldn't tell if the critter was a mouse or rat. I reached out to several rodent exterminators, but once they heard that my problem was outside my home, they all told me they couldn't help and that they didn't deal with rodents outside the home. The only company that who cared enough to come out to take a look was Rodent Professor. They dispatched Nate, who was amazing! Nate arrived on time and told me upon meeting that there isn't much he could do since it was outside the home, but he could take a look for me to see if there were any exposed entry points that the critters could use to get inside my home. He also looked at my surveillance videos and identified that my visitor was in fact a RAT! He checked all around the outside of my home and went up onto my roof and gave my house a clean bill of health. Nate notated what was happening in my neighborhood in regards to neighborly construction, fruit trees, etc.., and gave me suggestions on how I could minimize the visits from the Rat(s) in and around my patio area. Although I didn't end up hiring Rodent Professor this time, I can honestly say that based on my experience with Nate and how the company was willing to send a specialist out to me, knowing my problem was exterior, but they wanted to still make sure I was okay, tells me that it's not just about the money. After my cat zoned in on an area of the house and I suspected that we had rodents under the house, I called three companies to check for rodents and provide an estimate on rodent proofing the house. Rodent Professor quickly returned my calls. My initial contact was with Irene who scheduled someone to check out the house and provide a free estimate to eliminate the access points where rodents can enter our crawl space, attic and interior areas of the house. Irene was very professional, personable, and efficient. She answered my questions via phone and emails. Nate who inspected the house kept in contact with me prior to arriving at the house. He was professional, polite and arrived on time. He checked out the house for access points around the exterior of the house, on top of the roof and he checked for signs of rodent activity around the exterior of the house and in the attic. Aside from rodent proofing the house, Nate provided 2 service options since rodent activity in the attic wasn't too bad - one with light vacuuming of the rodent droppings or one with no vacuuming. I appreciated the two options. The other company inspectors did not offer options and the inspector did not go up on the roof to check access points. Irene provided the written estimate, scheduled the service, and handled the initial deposit. Nate and Diego oversaw the work. Nate was the primary supervisor checking final work while Diego and two other employees worked from approximately 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. Diego and crew worked diligently and were very professional. Diego was always smiling and engaging. He and his team worked hard on a very hot day. The final walkthrough was with Nate who pointed out the completed work to me. About 1 1/2 weeks later, Nate checked traps in the attic access and crawlspace access to see if any rodents were caught. So far none. Irene contacted me to schedule another visit in a week to have traps checked again. Keeping my fingers crossed that we are clear of rodents! It's looking good thanks to the Team at Rodent Professor! I chose Rodent Professor for various reasons. I felt that everyone I had interacted with were upfront, honest and doing their jobs while not pushing me for my credit card number or putting down any other competitors which is what I had experienced with the other companies. I have never had to deal with any rats or mice in my life and I am so happy I found this company on yelp. They are extremely professional. I had called them Sunday night when one of my tenants had reported seeing mice in their unit and immediately the next day at 11am Nate shows, does an inspection and full walk-through with me, explains the whole process and we get it scheduled for a full treatment. Joe was also amazing, he came by a couple of days before treatment to set up traps in the apartment. On the day of treatment, a full crew came prepared and literally from the roof all the way down to the crawlspace they covered up every single opening into the building as well as go one by one to every single unit in the apartment and sealed off any openings. The next day one of the tenants said their trap caught a mouse and again Nate came through like a knight in shining armor and removed the mice and reset the traps. I was having sleepless nights just thinking about the fact that there are rodents in the building, but thanks to the Rodent Professor and their crew and especially Nate, I have total peace of mind that the job was done once and it was done right and I don't have to worry about this problem again. I opened the basement bulkhead door, after a long time of not going down there, only to see a family of rats staring up at me. They froze for a second, like, "Oh no! Busted!!" and then scattered back into the crawlspace. There were droppings everywhere. I gave the Rodent Professor a call and Nate came out the next day for an inspection. He went through the house with me from top to bottom showing all the places rats could enter, and gave us a very reasonable bid to seal the entrances. We scheduled the work for the following Monday; the communication with the office was great. On Monday, a whole squad came out and spent six hours doing the work. Joseph, Victor, Diego, and Rodrigo were extremely neat, efficient and thorough in doing the work that Nate had spotted, and then they found even more rat entrances to seal. They used concrete to patch the holes, and 2 blended it well with the foundation of the house. They were super careful and respectful of our menagerie of pets when coming through the house to get to the attic. They were very clear about what they had done and what we should watch for. Hopefully the rats will be moving on to live the outdoor life again. read more
