Completely unprofessional. Like other negative reviews, I can confirm you will waste many hours trying to contact Dr. Tai and waiting for him. He seems to always be out of the country so it's hard to make appointments and even when you can get an appointment, you'll end up waiting for hours passed scheduled appointment times. Worse yet, he tries to make you feel stupid when you ask why he can't see patients accordingly to the scheduled treatment plans. After interviewed three orthodontist in Irvine, I am so glad I have chosen Dr. Tai. Now my kids finished their braces, and they have such a beautiful smile! Dr. Tai's office has these characters which stands out: 1. Office is high tech, all digital systems including impression, minimizing discomfort from molding, and reduce radiation. 2. Dr. Tai is a perfectionist, even the teeth already straight, Dr. Tai spent extra four visits to make sure the bite is ideal, which is important to avoid any future TMJ problems. 3. Dr. Tai diagnoses and treatment plans not only just teeth alignment but also facial esthetics and profile. Dr. Tai is fantastic. My wife and I both had invisalign done at the same time and it turned out great. The office is always super clean,and they have flat screen t.v.s in every room. I don't think I ever waited in the lobby for more than 2 minutes after I arrived for my appointment, and they are open on Saturdays, which helped since I work. Some days I didn't even get a chance to sit down and they already called me in the back to see Dr. Tai. The staff here is great too, which is an important thing considering you see them so much, and they prep you for certain things. Always friendly and talkative, very relaxed, which makes for a comfortable environment. I never had a bad experiences here, and my teeth are looking good. Only downside to finally fixing your teeth is you get extremely picky over every little detail, but Dr. Tai is patient and makes sure everything is how we want it before we finish the treatment. read more

I would recommend Dr. Tai if you are planning to get Invisalign. He is a very honest doctor and explains the procedure in details so you feel comfortable. I went to other orthodontist and they all tried to convince me that I needed braces but I knew my mind was set to invisalign since I already had braces before. I can't believe I lost my top side retainer after all these years!! (possibly tossed it away by accident with my 3-month old's pile of drool tissue). So I decided to find a new ortho doc since mine was made too long ago by a different doctor plus I've been thinking to do Invisalign since my bottom teeth started to have more gaps. Because Tai Orthodontics is closest to my house and Dr. Chen was able to take my appt on a very short notice I decided to go in for a consult. My goddess I was amazed by how advanced their machine is!! Dr. Chen was able to take a scan of my teeth and do a 3D simulation on how my teeth would become. While I was waiting in the room I also noticed their incredible Harvard credentials hanging on the wall. On top of these Dr. Chen patiently explained how the treatment would go and answered all my questions. Much better than my experience years back when my old ortho doc just rushed through my appt. I have been a patient of Dr. Tai for 2 years so this review is long overdue. Before deciding on my treatment, I had 4 or 5 different consultations with different orthodontists, and I was about to give up and not going on with braces. At multiple consultations, I either felt rushed because the doctor did not want to spend their time discussing treatments or they suggested 4 years for my brace with teeth extraction. Dr. Tai was my last hope and he did not disappoint! Only Dr. Tai was willing to spend more than an hour to sit down and showed me my Xray, explained why he decided to do this, and went above and beyond to avoid having teeth extraction. You can tell that he really cares for his patients. The office is so clean and pretty, I thought the treatment cost would be expensive, but it was one of the most affordable quote I got. My brace treatment is quick and yields good results. I already referred 4,5 of my friends to him. Only down side is Dr. Tai is super busy, but that is a given if you want good Ivy League doctor. read more

I had two canine teeth, which makes the adjacent teeth deformity (small and short). Dr Tai gave me the best plan in my first consultation. I highly recommend Dr. Tai. My son has just completed six years of orthodontic work, all under the care of Northridge Family Orthodontics. He was only eight years old when it all started and the staff handled him like he was part of their own family. He literally has grown up with this wonderful group of professionals! I started my teeth aligning process with Dr. Tai around 2 years ago. Initially, I was unsure if I wanted to go through with it, but he introduced me to Invisalign and explained how simple it is. Every few weeks I'd come in for a check up, and to collect my new sets of Invisalign. Setting up appointments was always a breeze with his helpful staff. Dr. Tai is the best! I started going there when I was around 10 years old. At that time, I had a crossbite, meaning that I smiled with my lower teeth in front of my top teeth. Later on, we also discovered that my canines were growing inwards and would required surgery to expose and straighten them. But even with all these complications, Dr. Tai was very patient and gave me a perfect smile! He is very knowledgeable (Harvard education!), amicable, thoughtful, and meticulous. Dr. Tai has been my orthodontist since I began Invisalign treatment a few years ago. I had consulted with several other doctors before finding Dr. Tai, yet he seemed the most knowledgable and understanding about my situation (mid 20's, student, wanting to close large gaps in my bite). He and his staff are very friendly and will treat you with great care and determination. Everyone in the office is personable, helpful, and clearly enjoy working there. About a year ago we discovered my top molars were stubbornly not rotating with the rest of my teeth. Dr. Tai was quick to act and we decided the best route was to temporarily use wire braces for the top. This is allowing more fine-tuned movement that Invisalign couldn't help with. Once the molars are properly aligned I can simply slip right back into the Invisalign. This is not a very common situation but Dr. Tai is creative and really knows his shit :) Very happy with the progress my teeth have made! read more

I should have written this review much sooner, but it's better late than never, right? OK, first thing first, I would highly recommend Dr. Tai to anyone who is looking for an orthodontist. I got a big gap, after pregnancy, between two front teeth, which I broke in an accident when I was 7 and got crowns for 6 years ago. I know, it sounds complicated. I consulted several dentists and most of them suggested me extract the teeth and do the implant, which would cost a fortune and take over a year to complete. I really didn't want to lose my own teeth, even only the roots; so I kept searching and to my great fortune, I finally met Dr. Tai. During the complimentary consultation, he said my situation was workable, I could keep the crowns and a 6-months treatment should fix the gap. He was absolutely right! I started the treatment last fall, and after only 1 month wearing the braces, the gap closed. We spent another 3 months to keep the teeth in place and then I got the braces off and my smile back! Now my husband is about to start his treatment with Dr. Tai. His terrible looking teeth have always been a big pain. (He'll extract 5 teeth before the treatment, so you guys get an idea) He hesitated to see an orthodontist for many years because he never really believed that his problem could be solved. Approachable, caring, and stellar service! I used to work for a retailer that prides itself in customer service and I have to say Dr. Tai is truly exemplary of that! I finished my orthodontic treatment in San Diego, but I have relocated to Irvine. I needed another orthodontist to occasionally check the fit of my retainers. I called, he was able to fit me in the same day within an hour! I came in, he checked the fit of my retainers and assured me I was doing a great job of taking care of my teeth. He answered all my questions and concerns. I feel extremely fortunate to stumble upon him on Yelp and I am glad I walked into this office. I almost wish he was my orthodontist from the beginning. My recommendations, his treatments are very high quality and not super expensive (about $200/mo.). It worth going for 2 years, my recommendations. He cares a lot about patients, even a single cancer sore not caused by brackets! And he gives cancer sore medications as soon as he finds sore! I never see a doctor that cares about patients more than Dr. Tai. Very easy to take appointments, even Saturdays. He told me that I'm going to take off braces after 2.5 years of treatment, but it ended up 5 months faster than expected. Very glad to hear that. read more

I will start by saying I had Invisalign before and was not happy with the result (partial undertreatment an partial non compliance) and wanted treatment again. I was extremely nervous about getting braces... so I had few other consults before deciding to go with Dr.Tai and Dr.Chen's office. First of all, they took their time with me and gave me their full attention (I had appointments with both at separate visits)...even though I had endless questions. This, coupled with very fair prices, immediately put me at ease and I decided to start my treatment with them. I'm happy I took the advise to do the traditional braces the second time around...as the results were quicker and it here was less room for me to be noncompliant with my hectic lifestyle. Just got my braces off a few weeks ago (sidenote: their filing and attention to detail on the final visit was nothing short of artistic) and I can't stop smiling! I've gotten so many compliments! They are competent, detail oriented, very professional, and well trained. They were a joy to work with! If you are looking for an odrhodontisr...make sure you do your research and find an orthodontist whose board certified and whose traing is more specialized then just dental school....but really, you don't need to look any further...I highly recommend Dr Tai and Dr Chen. We 'inherited" Dr. Tai after my son's previous orthodontist suddenly passed away and were in the middle of treatment when we were first introduced to him. It was an easy decision to stay on and not change doctors. Initially I wanted to stay because of the staff who had elected to help with the transition. They are exceptional, and the backbone of the practice. Corey, Patti and Erika are the best, and truly make you feel like family. They really get to know you and are invested in good outcomes. However, once I got to know Dr. Tai, I was duly impressed not only with his bedside manner, but his skill and up to date knowledge of orthodontics. I felt even more confident with him ( than the previous orthodontist) who was very exceptional and highly qualified, because Dr. Tai brought a 21st century approach to orthodontics. My son had a lot of orthodontic challenges and Dr. Tai was able to masterfully put everything in place. That was quite a feat! After seeing the results from my son's treatment, I thought it would be fun to get Invisalign for myself. Dr. Tai said I didn't need straightening and that my teeth were great. I appreciated his honesty, as I am sure another orthodontist would have gladly accepted my money! Location: i had thought their office before was just fine. Spacious, clean and filled with friendly people. They recently moved to a brand new office though and everything looks so sparkly! They always have water, coffee or tea in the waiting area for patients. But, I'm never waiting long enough to take advantage of it! There's always lots of parking at their new place too. Staff: The staff here is awesome. They are organized, helpful and friendly. All of them are so cute! I love chatting with them and seeing the office ladies every time i'm due for an adjustment. Dr. Tai and Dr. Chen: I was able to see both Dr. Tai and Dr. Chen for my case. They're both so knowledgeable and detailed about their work. I felt very at ease in either of their care! However, it's both of their personalities, approach, experience and genuine care for their patients that make going to them so amazing. I've had braces previously in grade-school and junior high, but my orthodontist at that time did not pay attention to aesthetics. The main problem was resolved through braces, however, the alignment and bite was not the best. At an older age, I then went to another orthodontist that tried to adjust my teeth with retainers. It improved the situation but did not resolve it. Then, one of my good friends suggested I see Dr. Tai and Dr. Chen about it. That was the best thing that could have happened! After about a year, just had my braces removed yesterday. Now, everything is perfect and i feel great about my teeth. Also, I don't get TMJ anymore since my bite has improved.
