All five stars are for their lasagna. I don't know what it is they put in the sauce or the cheese, but it is literally one of my favorite foods I've ever eaten. There's a sweetness and a little spicyness. I think I can see some grilled or caramelized onions, maybe that's it. My boyfriend is allergic to onions, and that's probably the only thing keeping me from ordering it every day. If you're looking for something amazing to pick up during quarantine, try this. You can get it with meatballs or italian sausage inside (I do sausage) or not. It also comes with two pieces of buttery toast, so you can scoop up the extra sauce and cheese. I've also had fun conversations with one of the ladies who works there, but that doesn't matter because all five stars are for the lasagna. read more

For the longest time, I kept driving past Mario's and telling myself that I absolutely had to go try it out. It just looked so honest, so authentic, so...well, having grown up in Connecticut, I'll just say it looked like an actual pizza place. So a little while ago I finally went in. I looked down the menu and decided I needed a hot sub. I was pleased by the rather reasonable-seeming price -- just over $7 once all was said and done. But that feeling disappeared pretty quickly when they handed me a bag containing something roughly the size and weight of a small panini. The good-ish news: it was pretty tasty -- nothing to write home about, but good. The bad news: when I finished, I was ready for the other half of my sandwich. I was STARVING. So suffice it to say: I was not thrilled. But to be fair, this is a pizza place, and I didn't have the pizza. I didn't think I could give a pissy review of a locally-owned, generally-appreciated pizza place just on the basis of one inadequate sub (or even a systematically inadequate range of tiny subs, extrapolating from the size of the bread). So today I got a pizza for dinner. Taking advantage of the everyday "special" on their website, I ordered a large (14") green chili pizza ($11.99+tax -- actually 1 cent less than the normal price of a 14" cheese pizza). Like the sub, the pizza was pretty tasty. The crust is a really interesting textural experience, with a thin layer of oily crunch underlying a layer of rather chewy, doughy crust. The sauce is simple and bright, the cheese mixture has a good flavor and a nice springiness, and they didn't skimp on the chopped green chilis (though they used mild ones, which was disappointing). So overall, I'd say the pizza was a pretty decent success, though again, perhaps not particularly remarkable. There's just one thing... Here's a thesis for you: A pizza that I can eat in one sitting by myself without even feeling overstuffed is, as a matter of analytic truth, not a large pizza. And guess what I just did. Yeah. So as far as I can tell from my small-but-hopefully-representative sample, here's the deal: Mario's makes pretty good-tasting food, and if you have no problem dumping a crapload of money into a pizza joint dinner, then you will likely finish your meal relatively happy. The problem is that most people aren't going to be willing to do that and, as a result, if they have anything resembling a large appetite they are going to be famished at the end of one of these meals. With tax included, I just dumped around $13 on pizza just for myself for one meal, and I only got one topping, AND that includes me taking advantage of a special that dropped the pre-tax price by $1.51. That's kind of ridiculous if you ask me, and something I will definitely not do again. As far as my recommendation goes, I'd say to look elsewhere to satisfy your pizza shop cravings. read more

I am truly mystified as to how this place has so many decent reviews. The prices at this place are exorbitant. Especially when you get a wimpy, thin, 14" pizza for nearly $20. I'm not knocking thin pizza, either. Thin pizza is fine if what's on top of the pizza can hold it's own. My dislike of this place comes from that $20 buys you a film of sauce, a few wisps of spinach, and a few chewy bits that might have once sat within the same building as a sausage. Not on the same floor though, to be sure. In fairness, their cheese blend isn't bad. It has the proper pizza consistency that allows stretching when hot but biting through it isn't hindered by it being too rubbery. I say this just to validate not giving the place zero stars. But that's not enough to save it. Not even a little bit worth wasting your time on. I've tried it a few times, and been horribly disappointed each time. I'd open that pizza box each time hoping that this time there'll be something worth eating in there. There never was. read more

Food: I am very critical when it comes to pizza places, because so many places like to claim "New York Style Pizza" or claim they have the best pizza in town even though their pizza tastes like the ass of a cardboard box (just choose an end and bite). So when I say this place has awesome pizza, you can take it to the bank and cash it. The pizza is thin crust, but here's the good part, the crust is always perfectly cooked so it's crunchy around the edge AND on the bottom, so many pizza places have not figured out how to get the botttom crunchy and it comes out soft or soggy, Mario's has found the secret and it's delicious. The only minor quibble would be that they do not season their pizzas, they bring pepper flakes and parmasean to the table and let you do that, if they were to add some pepper and some oregano to their pizzas, they would be perfect. Cost: The pizza's are fairly priced, it's not Little Ceasar's $5 pizza, but then again you're getting top quality pizza, so you get what you pay for. Pro-tip: don't buy their drinks, they charge WAY too much for their drinks. I don't mind paying top dollar for their pizza, but not their drinks. My advice, get their pizza to go and buy drinks elsewhere. Dining Area: Their dining area is a bit small and nothing fancy, but I've never been there and had to wait for a seat, so it seems to be appropriate for the business they get. However, in the few times I've been there, I've been approached twice by people trying to get money from me with their sad stories, one while I was eating inside the establishment (not cool) and once outside. Parking: Parking is plenty for this place, no problems here. Service: Service has always been great, profesional and friendly, pizza comes out quickly and the it's always hot and fresh. Summary: Despite the high prices they charge for their drinks, they have the best pizza I've put in my mouth outside of NY and it is for that reason I encourage you to give this place a try, just get it to go and buy your drinks elsewhere. read more

Haven't been to Mario's in literally 40 years. Decided to stop to grab dinner for my grandbabies and my daughter. I've been obsessing since then! The pizza was ferocious, fresh and the kids wanted me to order another. I had the spaghetti which was probably the best trading sauce I've ever had. No wonder they've been in business for so long! Admittedly, I am a picky pizza girl who grew up in northeastern U.S. in the presence of many great pizza joints. (Love you New Haven & New York!) With such an upbringing, I cultivated a particular standard for pizza. Now, just to warn you, Mario's definitely does NOT win the 'prettiest restaurant' prize. It IS a dive. There's a drive-through liquor store right next door! But their pizza brings me a little bit closer back to my northeastern roots. Pizza was on point first time going & it didn't disappoint my firs name is Mario so I've always been intrigued in going that got a couple of different of things on tha menu even , they had a couple going on tha grill..! Also onion rings..!, a large New York style with mushroom & pepperoni came to $15. Some change. Only think I didn't like really is that they racked on a .35 cent fee to pay with my card & an additional 35 cents for every blue cheese & or ranch.. other than that the place is worth checking out will be back for sure read more

It's a dive and places like this are a dime a dozen in the northeast, but here in the Sonora desert, this is about as close to real New York pizza that you're going to find. Nothing fancy in any respect, but it is what it is and more importantly, they deliver exactly what they are advertising. Miles above the chains. We always eat-in and they bring it hot and sizzling from the oven to the table in about 15 minutes. Ambiance, zero. Staff, surly. Pizza, perfect. $14 for a large pie. Recommended. read more

If you're into greasy pizza this is your Nirvana. I used to go here years ago when I was in High School with one of my buddies at least once a week. We would stuff down a large peperoni and leave the pizza joint with burnt mouths, and loved every second of it. You may recognize this spot by the weird Army tank parked in the parking lot next door. Not sure if it is still there, as I have since moved out of town. If you haven't been yet and need a grease pie, then this is your spot. Totally delicious! read more

This was my second time at Mario's Pizza, the first time was an "ok" experience so I wanted to give it another chance. My first pizza was a large for$14 with coupon, average price. The pizza was alright but barely had any cheese and was extremely thin. My second experience was horrible the medium Pizza was tiny , it was a medium and also barely had any cheese with my topping being extra cheese haha. It gets worse they over charged me for it it was supposed to be 8.99 + tax but when I saw my bank statement I got charged a dollar more. I didnt want to go back and fight over a dollar , but be we warned of getting overcharged if you eat there one-day. Overall, the pizza was well below average and along with my overcharged bill I think they deserve a lonely star. Its sad that a local pizza joint does worse than a franchise Pizzeria. read more

I like it a lot but it's not the best pizza I've ever had. We ordered half Hawaiian and half Cowboy (cheddar, bacon and green chiles mmm). I liked the Cowboy better and my bf liked the Hawaiian. Also, if you're really hungry or like to have left overs go for the extra large. My bf and I scarfed a large in no time! Delivery time was short and the pizza was still hot, which is to be expected since we live one city block away. I'd def order from here again! read more

Haven't even eaten the pizza yet - service isn't good. Special is large 1 topping for 10.99 - I was charged 12.96 after tax...asked for a receipt and told it'd be on the box. My math tells me it should have been 11.80. We'll see when my pizza comes out Edit: gave me the difference back, I don't like to confront them, but did anyways. I bought a 15.00 pizza that should have been worth 5 dollars. I was so mad at my self for walking out with it without complaining. It was barely a pizza, wimpy like one reviewer said. As I was driving home, trying to think of other things to cook because this was hardly enough for one person, I kept opening the box and looking at it as if it was going to get bigger the more I did it lol! We have been ordering from Marios for the past 5 years and have never been disappointed with any of their food. I love the variety of their appetizers including fried shrimp, mozzarella sticks, mushrooms etc. Their wings are tasty and the pizza slices are huge and floppy - so good! Not sure where the comparison to NYC pizza is being made, but the only similarity I saw is a somewhat cooked, round piece of dough, with red sauce, cheese, and a few ingredients thrown on top. I've been trying pizza all over Tucson for the past 5yrs, have wanted to try Mario's based on the number of good reviews - but, maaaan was I disappointed. Got home, opened the pizza box, and you know it's not going to be good if LOOKING at the pizza isn't enticing. I immediately thought, this pizza looks really SAD!!! "I just paid THIRTY DOLLARS for a "large" 14" which really looked like 10 or 12", and SIX chicken wings (which were also nothing to even CONSIDER writing home about; they were very small, and hardly any meat). The dough looked processed (is it frozen? are the ovens the conveyor belt kind?); no wax paper or even corm meal sprinkled in the box to deal with moisture; had only been 10-minutes from oven to home, and the cheese had already coagulated, like it'd been sitting all day. The pizza sauce was bland, the crust was NOT "crusty", there was not one bite "crisp", was chewy-soggy, gross; don't really remember any of the many ingredients of the "Carnivore", but all I asked was to hold the hamburger, and put extra sauce on it. Not rocket science. Godfather's, Round Table, and maybe even Pizza Hut are better examples (and I don't eat there, either). This was crap. One of the worst pizza's I've ever had. Only ate 2 pieces, felt sick. Gross. Must have been an off-nite, considering all the other 4&5-star reviews. Lots of 1-star reviews, too - and I have to agree. But before any of the actual consumption began, the whole experience was undermined by a very small, yet telltale sign of the kind of business you're dealing with. TELL THE CUSTOMER AHEAD OF TIME, if they're paying with debit card, there will be an extra charge. I would have GLADLY stopped at an ATM to get cash, if I knew this business operates like that (reminds me of ARCO AM/PM gas stations that charge you extra if you use a debit card at the pump). All this says is, "we don't have a problem ripping off our customers." So many ways around this (a sign? tell me over the phone when I order?) - otherwise, it just screams "we don't care". Why not just go cash only? Ohhhh, you WANT to please those w/debit cards. (if you care) Then do the right thing, and tell people ahead of time. Pass. PS - just at 3-more pieces, thinking that re-heating in the oven, would HOPEFULLY at least make the bottom have a LITTLE form, but no. Still soggy, gross. Worse than global chain pizza. read more

Mario's Pizza is a great family pizza place and such a refreshing change from the other options. The prices are very reasonable, especially for such fresh ingredients. Our whole family always enjoys the outings to Mario's and the warm atmosphere they have. I'm not sure where the previous reviewer visited, but it wasn't Mario's as they don't even offer spinach or a cheese blend and you'd have to load a pizza up with everything to have it cost $20. This definitely beats frozen pizza from the grocery store! read more

My first time here which I mentioned and they assured me it wouldn't be my last. My personal size pizza was a disspointment-you needed a microscope to see the toppings and they do not provide parmesan or chili flakes in their take out. The chicken wings were inedible- "hot" sauce was mild at best and hardly coated the meat which tasted old like freezer burn-they included ranch but no celery or carrots for dipping like most places . OK. I'm really old. I remember ordering from Marco's back in the sixties and seventies when pizza delivery was something new. We always got their kitchen sink pizza with extra cheese, sausage, onions, green peppers and black olives. Today, I went to Marco's (the same location, but not the same pizza). I ordered the Mario's Special, since the Yelp reviews were glowing. Problem: the crust was under-cooked, really floppy and tough. The crust ruined the entire pizza eating experience.
