I like this little place. The bread they use for the sandwiches is really good. I got a special A. I do think it would be better to buy the bigger balls of mozzarella though and slice it. The flavor comes out better than in using the ciliegine mozz. Meatballs and marinara sauce were good. Mini cannoli was fine. Really nice owners. I thought about that bread all week and had to return. The chicken parm sandwich is really good. The tiramisu tastes like a nice cream cake but is light on the coffee flavor, fyi. I have also tried the #12 sub, the chicken alfredo, the brownie, the bread, and the salad. Salad is fresh and I love the homemade ranch and balsamic dressings. Mario's came highly recommended via the other yelp reviews and I definitely was not let down! Mozzarella sticks and pizza were both very yummy. Did seem a bit on the pricier side but this is a vacation spot. There isn't much room for dining inside but they do have a cute outdoor area that can fit larger parties! Delicious chewy crust with hand crimped edges. Loved the veggie with artichokes, onions, green peppers and black olives. Also had meat sauce penne...delicious! Always order and go,there to pick up. I had a group of people visiting and I preordered about 9 sandwiches and a few large salads. Everything was great. I had them cut the sandwiches in thirds instead of in half so people could try different ones. They included onions and peppers, salad dressing and gravy on the side and it worked out really well. When I travel I always try the pizza because I'm Pizza freak. Mario's is a little place on the end of a strip mall Ambiance is cozy. The two people on staff are friendly and accommodating. Now Mario's Pizza.. first the crust. Tough. Sauce was sparing but that's okay because flavor was lacking.. on the positive the amount of toppings was plentiful and the sausage was good. Spoke to some locals they said if you order from Mario's you have to eat it there. If I go back I won't order pizza. We stopped by on our first night in the area...pizza is an easy choice for our family. We were not disappointed. We ordered a Caesar salad, cheesy breadsticks, house special pizza and a cheese pizza. The Caesar salad was my favorite - the dressing was so delicious! The rest of the meal was also good. The sauce that came with the breadsticks was robust. The house special was generously topped with alllllll the things. I didn't taste the cheese pizza but our boys devoured it. There is a tiny indoor dining area and a few tables outside as well. We were the only ones eating there, but they had a constant stream of people picking up to-go orders. The owner was there and he came out and chatted with us in between making pizzas. I was in the area for work for a couple of weeks. I got food here three times and it was amazing every time.

We have been coming to New Buffalo for about 8 years, but we never tried the food here. It's just a little hole in the wall with some outdoor seating. Our First nite we had pizza and it was very good. We decided to give it another try right before coming home we ordered pasta with the 4 cheeses baked on top. We were going to order two but the owner , Harmony, said 1 was big enough for two. Well, totally stunned when it came out and it could have fed a family of 4-5. We took it to go, hoping we could find someone to give it too since we were leaving to go home in the morning, but we were talking to a nice couple who lived here and mentioned our but of small problem , they offered to take it. DO NOT PASS UP THIS PLACE. It is delicious, homemade food and large portions and not overpriced. The desserts as well are homemade. We will definitely be back next year. read more

Very disappointed with the food. Have had their pizza before COVID and the crust was exceptional as was the toppings. Picked up my order tonight and when I got home and opened the boxes I was shocked. The crust was flat as a pancake. It certainly wasn't the hand tossed fresh dough variety. The sauce looked and tasted like it can from the can and the cheese was plopped on in circles and had not melted in nicely with the other topping. It looked like it had been taken out of the oven to early. The bread on the hot meatball sandwich was soggy from the sauce and did not hold up well against the meatballs. Chose Mario's over Capozio's and this was a tragic mistake. Have never been disappointed with Capozio's Pizza and thought that I would give Mario's the business . We had a good experience here We did takeout. The food was really good. Much better than villa nova pizza in New Buffalo One little miss was we didn't get our salad. We didn't realize it until much later and found a phone message asking if they could deliver the salad to us It was way to late to get the salad by no post fault of theirs. Wish we had time to go back and try some other things but time gets in the way One thing to help hopefully. The BBQ chicken pizza had good flavor and good everything else except the chicken pieces were so big that there was almost no coverage in the pizza. This is a blink-and-miss-it type place. But what it lacks in size, it MORE than makes up for it in flavor. Holy cow was this a great pizza. First off they make everything in house. The marinara sauce was phenomenal. The crust was crispy and the toppings were quality. The only bad thing was that we all burned our mouths because we were too impatient to let it cool before digging in. Next time we will pick up and take it back to the hotel before digging in. We want to like this place because it one of the few places in Union Pier. Last year we had a couple of large beef sandwiches. Pretty good, different from your typical beef sandwiches in Chicago. This time we ordered a large pizza, weird size, 17", but actually was perfect size. Now for the pizza, that's why the score. Soggy crust but I guess they're trying to do a New York style pie? Most of the clientele are Chicagoans who have 2nd homes here or who have relocated. We're not going to write this place off because of it location to our home. This pizza was like pizza cooked in a high school cafeteria. Greasy toppings, soggy crust, and plastic cheese. I see the owners read the reviews so take note as this is a genuine harsh criticism. I want to like this place more than I do. I'm not sure there's been a change in the ownership, but surely there has been a recent change in the quality of the pizza and subs since last year's visit. Takeout for 4 with leftovers was $60+. Chicken Parm, to me, is pounded breast meat, drenched in egg wash and breaded, then fried. Topped with mozzarella and marinara it's heaven on a sub roll. By far my favorite pizza place!! Every time I order, I am never disappointed. My go tos are the white pie and the pepperoni calzone. The calzone's dough is perfectly cooked and there is never a lack of cheese. The combination of the ricotta and mozzarella is unbeatable. As for the pizza, the flavor is always out of this world and the crust is perfectly crispy.
