I had 3 suits altered here. The price was great and the reviews were great, so everything looked good to go. Surprisingly they gave me a 4-day turn-around time even though I wasn't in a rush. The suit coats turned out great, no problems there. Well, the front-to-back seam let go on all 3 of the slacks, and one of them happened while I was wearing them, just before I was to be on stage to speak in front of a large crowd of people (thank goodness for safety pins!!). It was after this happened that I checked the other 2 slacks and found they were faulty as well. I never ended up going back because I was pretty upset and probably wouldn't have handled it well, not to mention if they failed on 3 different slacks I didn't think they needed another chance at messing them up again. As for the quality of work, it's a 1 star obviously), but everything else would have been 4 or more. They were nice people and seemed to do typically good work based on the reviews. I'm a business owner myself and I know stuff happens, so this is just to share, I'm not here to slam anybody for making an honest error. read more

Maria's shop is hard to reach in Oakland, but completely worth going to for a quick hem and quality work! Maria hemmed my wedding reception dress to fit short little me within a week, and the work was so perfect it seemed even more beautiful than brand new! The cost definitely needs to be raised! She is extremely good at her work, very reasonable in cost ($14 jean hem) and she can do rush orders. Brought in a handful of clothes that needed some tending to (broken clasp, small tear, broken zipper, etc) and one shirt that was too small and Mari worked magic on them. She took out the waistband of my shirt and replaced it to fit and you couldn't even tell. She did it in a super fast turn around and the price was really reasonable. Oh my goodness - finding Mari was a lifesaver! I needed a few things altered and also created for ~CoAcHEllA!!!!~ and Mari delivered and made the creations come to life. I got a pair of pants altered to fit more high waisted and upcycled a jean jacket to a two piece and then a few things that needed to be stitched due to rips, tears etc. Mari said no problem, had me try everything on to see the adjustments that needed to be made and then was like I can get this done in a week or sooner!! I've taken three pairs of pants to Mari's and have had great success. Two of the pants needed to be hemmed. One was a simple single-fold hem on cotton knit pants. The second was a wider hem with double stitching on denim. She nailed it. The third alteration was more difficult. My Levi's jeans needed the waist increased. She had to remove the waistband from the jeans in the place where she was adding the fabric. She cleverly did this behind the leather patch. The jeans have a lot of different color patchwork on them and the waistband doesn't look altered at all. Next item is a winter coat that needs a new lining that I'll bring to Mari's. I came to Mari's for the first time last Fall with a bridesmaid dress that needed alterations. It was very last minute (my fault) but they were happy to accommodate and get the work done with a quick turn around. The dress was chiffon and didn't have a lot of structure but the ladies at Mari's did some serious MAGIC and added support to the bust that I didn't even know was possible with that fabric! After they took in the waist, changed the straps, and hemmed the dress, it fit like a glove. They really made me feel beautiful. Again, all within a super tight turn around. We had great communication throughout, which was very welcome as it can be a bit nerve wracking to leave a bunch of expensive fabric with someone you've just met knowing once it's cut, it can't be uncut.
