Was staying in Bensonville before flying out of O'Hare the next day and we were looking for a place for dinner near our hotel.We passed Marisco's and decided to give them a try.Huge menu and clean ,but small dining room.We were seated quickly and our waitress brought over some of the best tortilla chips we've ever had,fresh and warm and not at all greasy.What a great start.We placed our orders and settled in.It did take quite awhile for our orders to finally come out,but they did and we dug in.The shrimp Burrito was quite good and large.My wife's enchiladas she said were tasty and plentiful.All in all a good meal for a decent price.Thevonly reason I don't rate them higher is,it took a long time for the orders to come out and a really long time to get our check.As for the food it was very good though. read more

When some friends were ordering lunch from work - I ordered their lunch special which was supposed to be $8.50. My co-worker went to pick it up and - as it turns out - it was $20.00. They didn't tell anyone that they stopped having the lunch specials (at noon). I ended up paying $20.00 for one of the worst meals I have ever had. The tacos were tiny. The beans were cool and waxy and the rice had zero flavor - also just below room temperature. There are too many good - affordable - delicious Mexican restaurants in the area. I forgot my lunch today and needed to make a stop at jewel. This spot happens to be across the street so I decided I'll be having Mexican for lunch! I ordered a steak burrito and an al pastor taco to go. The woman working was super friendly and helpful when I asked about their menu items. Their al pastor isn't quite like what I'm used to, but it's actually pretty tasty. It doesn't come off a spit, but it's got a nice marinade and is plump and juicy. The steak burrito was pretty good too, although it's a tad bit smaller than other places I've tried. The meat was tender and in good size chunks. For the price and quality, this place is definitely worth a try. Plenty of parking and the service is great! read more

The tacos sucked. I'm really picky about my tacos. I really wish I didn't order 3 tacos. I should of known better and just ordered one taco. The steak tasted fake to me and I hate how they cut the meat. Plus I also spit out some fat, which is one of the biggest turns off to me. The salsa and chips were good. Kinda hot. My boyfriend and his friend had drinks. The lady was attentive overall but with my water it took her sometime to refill it. I had to ask her. I hosted a UYE here yesterday and the food is fantastic! *pats self on back* I didn't know what to expect (no menu online and only a couple reviews) and, to tell you the truth, my expectations were low. If anything, I thought it might be divey. I was pleasantly surprised to find it's casual without compromising the cuisine. Think of it as somewhere between a fast food taqueria and a nicer sit-down restaurant. I wanted to try the whole enchilada, so our table ordered up appetizers, entrées, drinks and dessert. They bring out complimentary Chips & Salsa. The chips are fried, so they are warm and flaky without losing crunch. The salsa has chunks of veggies but the sauce is still smooth, and it's not too spicy for my Minnesotan heat tolerance. We also got the Guacamole Con Chips. It was so tasty that we ordered up another round. I went with the 3 Taco Dinner and got the Lomo (with chipotle sauce), Lengua, and Pastor. All of them came with onions and cilantro and I added sour cream, cheese and avocado. It's accompanied by rice and beans, both of which are prepared well, so they aren't dry and have a lot of flavor. The Lomo had a really good taste but the sauce was slightly spicier than I cared for (that means it's probably OK for most people) and the meat was chewy. The Lengua was a little dry but had good flavor (second best I've had after La Placita). The Pastor is very tender and tasty, so I think they cooked it with pineapple but I didn't see any pineapple chunks with the meat and I think that would have made it even better. Still, it's really, really good and was my favorite taco of the three. My dining companions report that the chicken burrito is great. The chicken was tender and you get a lot of fillings for about $6. Mariscos El Amigo #3 has a bar and I couldn't leave without trying a Margarita. It's solid. I'm pretty sure they are using a standard sour mix. It was not the best I've had, but it was far from the worst. This will do in a pinch if you're craving a Margarita and I really liked it with my meal. It's really strong, too. Service was good. We were greeted when we arrived and told to grab a seat wherever we wanted. Our waitress was prompt with drink orders and took our food order on the second stop at our table. When they were unsure if I wanted all the toppings I had ordered on all of the tacos, they came out and asked for clarification instead of just slapping it together and hoping they got it right. I very much appreciated that. The only complaint is that we were left hanging at the end. It got a little bit busier, but we finished the flan and waited and waited for the check. After a good 15 minutes or more, we were unsure if we'd get it at all or needed to pay at the counter, so we got up and went over to the exit and paid there. 1 complimentary order of Chips & Salsa, 2 orders of Guacamole Con Chips, 2 Chicken Burritos, 3 Tacos with Beans & Rice, 1 Margarita and 1 Flan came to a grand total of about $38 before tip. Funny thing about visiting Mariscos is...back in the day this place used to be a beef joint named "The Spot" and as a teeny bopper, my younger sister worked there for about 6 months. The Spot was literally, THE spot for an awesome tasty beef, or dog and had loyal patrons for over 30-40 yrs if I had to guess...Original owner for decades then sold to someone else and finally closed in 2011. Place was vacant for a long time..So..walking in I felt torn between nostalgia and new, with a completely different vibe & setup. I've devoured many beefs with the best fries here...miss it. Unlike The Spot, there is wait staff with menus and a BAR! You can sip on Margaritas & eat authentic tortilla chips while watching T.V. all day long if you want..Two flat-screens and shelves loaded with many bottles. Intimate dining area with tables and booths...I have to say the area looked tidy and clean...mustard colored walls and some nautical décor...no I wasn't at The Spot anymore... :( We were here around 6ish on a weeknight and it was not hoppin at all....crickets.. One guy at the bar...Our server was eager to seat us and get our orders... Having glanced at reviews, it sounded legit... The menu is expansive...I think this place wants to be known for their seafood, DUH...Mariscos is Spanish for seafood people! I'm probably the only one who did not know this and just based it off the unique seafood options....but yeah, I asked the waiter ;) They had octopus, crab meat, shrimp, snapper and OYSTERS....YES oysters! On the half shell! This is probably the only time I've ever passed on oysters, but I did. I was feeling more like meat & shrimp so I went with the 3 taco dinner.....variety my friends... Was told they couldn't do a shrimp taco, so bummer there. Waiter mentioned a fish taco and when I asked what fish and he replied Catfish, I said no thanks. He brought out a basket of tortilla chips and salsa...first basket is free, if you want another, it'll cost ya $2. Chips were so fresh, crispy and light...they were addicting..Salsa was mild. They had 2 bottles of hot sauce on table & one house made I didn't taste. We happened to hit some language barriers with our really nice waiter....or maybe he hit some barriers with us...either way, we had to repeat things quite a few times...this was not a big deal, until our orders came out and we were very confused as to why some of us got different tacos....it was all good though cause my order was the least messed up.. Another oddity was one person wanted the 3 taco plate with all Chile rellenos (they use jalapeno here)...and I ordered one Relleno taco, the Lomo (sliced ribeye), and Pastor. Server comes back and states they only have enough jalapenos for one dinner and I was SOL..said they were 'all out'...so we assumed they had enough for the 3 taco plate. Plates arrived and I was given the last pepper while someone else got none...(I had to laugh). What I thought I sub'd MY Relleno for; Shredded beef, friend received all 3 of instead... So yeah, you could say there were some communication gaps....yet we didn't make a big deal about it because as it turned out...... My pick on the shredded beef taco (reminded me of Barbacoa) was the WINNER. Though I didn't get mine, I was able to snag a bite and it was the best of all tacos we had. Flavorful, tender & decent amount. This is what I would stick with if I came back again...I heard the chicken taco was good too... The Lomo was just a few pieces of thinly sliced ribeye topped with some strands of melted cheese, avocado and chipotle sauce....I couldn't really taste the meat...it was like it was barely there and had no flavor at all...if it was Ribeye, I would've never guessed. The Pastor was chopped pork in a tasty sauce - not super tender but had some pizazz. Jalapeno Relleno was not worth missing. A lightly battered fried jalapeno stuffed with very mild cheese and zero sauce....Blah. I still find it strange that they could be OUT of peppers, but whatever...not surprised if its not a big seller. All my tacos were topped with lettuce, sour cream, cheese & avocado only. The white corn tortillas were soft and tasted scratch made, everyone commented on. Shredded beef tacos were requested with no onion or cilantro, but we got it anyway.. Prices here are VERY reasonable. You'll be charged $1 more for certain meats, while a reg 3 taco dinner is $7.50. My total w/soda was $10 and included a large portion of very PLAIN rice and refried beans. I kept thinking how La Hacienda on Lake offers many of the same dishes at higher prices...but without some of the unique fish offerings here... Our server was really very nice despite the multiple screw ups.. If your in the area and want a casual sit down meal with a variety of good options, I'd give them a try. Just bring along your Hispanic friend or google translate or pickup Rosetta Stone & learn fast... Can't beat the prices..and eats were OK. read more

Explanation of the meal was not clear as she kept cutting me off when I was asking my questions to get a clear explanation. Carne Asada was chewy and NOT GOOD, AT ALL. When I got home and saw it was not what I wanted I called it was just a complete brush off with no offer of correction for the order. Customer service here sucks. Gave this place a try for the first time and wasn't impressed enough to go back. I had a couple of steak tacos that were good. Not amazing, but good. I also had a steak torta. I don't know what there was about it, but something tasted off. Maybe the weird cubes of cheese. I've had plenty of experience with Mexican restaurants, growing up in Chicago. This is the ONLY place I've ever been to that didn't use shredded cheese. No diced tomatoes. Just one slice cut in half for the torta. No diced onions. Just a couple of strands of onion. Had to ask for sour cream instead of MAYO on the torta. What's that about? Their tiny plate of salsa to go with the complimentary chips was ok, but it was some kind of weird pasta sauce with chunks of peppers and onions. Never seen anything like it. Also there was a squirt bottle of what I assume was some other kind of homemade sauce. Not green sauce. To me, it actually tasted like someone mixed salsa verde with mayo and mustard. Weird. My daughter got the 3 taco dinner - 2 steak and 1 chicken. We had to ask them to swap the chicken for another steak, because something about the chicken tasted off. To their credit, they did swap it without much hassle. However, another fault. Their tacos come with cilantro and onions ONLY. My daughter wanted tomato, lettuce and cheese. I asked if there was an additional charge and was told, "Yes. 20 cents" But I wasn't told that would be 20 cents TIMES TWO, FOR EACH TACO. Ok, it was an additional $1.20, but talk about nickel and diming. That was a little out of line. I asked for a fried pepper, which I'm used to be complimentary at so many places I've been to. The pepper was not fried long enough and I was charged 75 cents. I was actually ok with the charge, but again, nickels and dimes. The pluses? Prices were decent. $2 tacos and $6 torta. $7.50 for 3 taco dinner. Add in the extras and the value drops some. Place was somewhat clean, except the floor which had quite a bit of bit and pieces of droppings. Honestly, that should have been swept more often. Negatives? Weird salsas. No typical, good salsa verde and roja that I'm used to seeing in EVERY Mexican joint. Off chicken? Extra charges. Somewhat loud ambient noise with lots of tv's on different channels, playing low, while our server entertained a couple of VERY loud dudes at the counter - one laughing constantly like a hyena! Rice was good, but beans tasted very bland and odd. The pics I see posted for this joint are not accurate in my experience! I have yet to find a decent Mexican place in the area. This place is a bit tucked away on York. I never knew it existed until Mexican Mother's Day where all the other seafood restaurants had an hour wait. I was a bit skeptical at first but this place was amazing. Do not let their looks fool you. They have some fire dishes. I personally had a dish with shrimp and peppers, and it was perfection. By far the best rice I've ever had. We also had tilapia and two rounds of chips. The only downside is that they only have two TVs and while I requested them to play an NBA playoff game, they had MTVs Ridiculousness, some show where someone was throwing up or some other weird things where happening. Brings me my drink walks into kitchen . Comes out does something behind bar. Lemonades still up there. Finally got them. Place order. Steak burrito Veggie burrito Carne asada dinner Fish and a shrimp taco. Food comes out No napkins. No asking if we need refills . My drink was empty. I'm like this is good but so weak. Finally she came back got a pop. My mom's carne was not skirtsteak we've had it before. Everything knows what it looks like. This was thin sandwich steaks the plate was so small. Done eating still no refills. waiting waiting waiting for bill. Waitress sits down and eats dinner. Were standing up at this point. Still nothing. Finally have to go up to her. Get bill Big ripoff. That crappy steak 18 dollars 9 for burrito only a burrito A veggie burrito that was only let Tom rice beans cream 8.50 How is that 50c less than steak? My drink was a virgin wtf? I didn't ask for that. So 4 bucks for mixer. 3.25 for a lemonade no refill Oh and every menu the prices are sharpied and white outed. I have no idea what happened maybe new owners or they aren't around and not checking on place. We stopped by here on the way home after picking up my wife at the airport after her business trip. We thought it would be good as it has a 4 Star rating here. As we finally figured out where the restaurant was we were a little concerned that the place was empty. Plus the challenge of getting in their parking lot if you are traveling North bound on York Road from Grand Avenue. We decided to give it a go any how and kept our thoughts positive that things would be all right. We were told to pick any seat and menus were quickly brought over. We ordered drinks for everyone and continued to review the menu. I ordered the steak and shrimp combo fajitas for my meal. As I do not eat like I once used to I usually order fajitas without the tortillas or other sides that normally come with fajitas as I did not want to waste anything. Much to my surprise the full meal actually came out. The meal was all served on a dinner plate where fajitas are usually served on the frying pan that they are prepared on usually. Besides the steak and shrimp there was the Mexican rice and the refried beans as well. I just feel bad when things I do not need for my meal and request they are not included in my meal that still wind up being served to me and wind up being wasted. Fortunately my wife likes refried beans and took them home with the rest of her shrimp meal that she ordered. For our 11 year b/g twins we ordered the Pupusas which apparently had a little more spice to them than what they expected. My wife ordered the Camarones al Mojo de Ajo and she felt it had good flavor. I thought my fajitas had good flavor as well yet the additional things served were not necessary. We also had margaritas with our meal and I was glad that they were true margaritas versus margaritas messed up with either 7-Up or orange juice or something else. I came in here near closing on a weekday. The employees were very friendly and welcoming. I ordered a steak torta with an aqua horchata. I sat in the restaurant waiting for my order and really enjoyed the multiple televisions with channels in both Spanish & English. The restaurant is extremely clean. The service was fast. The food itself was really good. I was impressed by how fresh everything was. The meat was perfectly seasoned and the ingredients tasted fresh. The bread tasted like it was freshly baked. The horchata was perfectly balanced as it wasn't too sweet or watery. Highly recommended based on my first visit. I will definitely be back! read more

This is probably my favorite taco place in town for various reasons. The first reason being their food obviously! They make the staple items you'll find at any other comparable restaurant. My two favorite things on their menu are the chips & salsa, and the pupusas. The salsa...bomb! Almost reminds me of a ceviche (without the shrimp in it). Flavor is so robust. And the chips they fry fresh - you can tell. It's oily, but too good to resist lol. Don't get me started on the pupusas. They are amazing! Ughhhhh the stuffed cheese and meat of choice. I can eat so many, but limit myself. You definitely have to try. To compliment the delicious food, the people here are just so friendly. I feel like I'm walking into my friends house when I come here. They're like "have a seat where you want! Welcome back!" Super hospitable and inviting like maybe I do come here a lot.... haha. I also love that they aren't stingy on the condiments like some restaurants are. They'll give you more of their bomb hot sauce and salsa if you ask. Highly recommend! I feel like a complete moron for going to Taco Bell when this place is right next door. The food is delicious and really reasonably priced (around $2 per taco). They make their tortilla chips(!) and have an excellent salsa to go with that they give you right when you sit down. Also tried the guacamole which was great! I am in love with this place. Food is really fresh and really delicious. For a mexican joint food is not greasy at all. There are many seafood selections which is fantastic. The decor is very cozy ( a bit too bright and could use some little lights of sort) but very clean which to me is very important. Staff is friendly even though they could be just a bit more attentive. Overall a great place if you're a fan of fresh, flavorful, and not such heavy food. I typically cannot eat mexican food but Mariscos is a different story. My 8 year old son loves it as well along with the hubby. It a great casual place for a dinner or a drink with a friend. read more
