Terrible. The meat taste awful had piece of hair and the food was cold and didn't even match the picture would not recommend. Plus there is a 12% service fee for dining in. Television volume was pretty high and when I asked to turn it down the said they didn't have the remote. read more

Well I must admit they are somewhat rough around the edges, and are a bit stingy about giving anything away that is not on the menu, but this is authentic Mexican trust me on this one. As for the Meat, that's just the way its done "bistec" or steak, is the Mexican version of hamburger meat its the cheapest meat sold at Mexican markets and you will get the occasional hunk of rubbery fat Mmmm.. well maybe I'm used to it from them family weekend picnics at Calumet park back when I was a kid ha ha. Overall the food is consistent and ordering is not a problem if you can speak a little Spanish. The weekends they serve up delicious Menudo and you can get Carnitas by the pound. Numero 2 stop on UYE:Lake Street Taco Tour. I really enjoyed the taco asadero here. I'm sure I would have enjoyed it more with some tortillas, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. You have to order a minimum of two asadero or two alambre tacos with your order. I'm not sure why, but you could eat more than two. ;) There was carne asada, bacon and chorizo in the taco! It was pretty delicious. More of a stew than just meat. Like any good Mexican joint, they carry Jarritos to go wash your tacos down. The place is rather large and the ladies working there are very nice and accommodating. There's mexican decor all over the place giving it a nice touch. I really enjoyed staring at the white horse head by the agues (see picture). I just read that they have elotes there, well, why didn't someone say so!? =] read more

Favorite!!! Mexican!!! Restaurant!!! Started coming here about 4 or 5 years ago, completely on accident. I always get Pozole and/or Carne Asada. Often times my eyes are bigger than my stomach my fiancé points out regularly. We most recently went and brought a friend new to the restaurant. She loved it too! THE MOST EXPENSIVE taqueria on lake street by far!! Blew our minds!! For 2 people to dine was $78! The torta cubano was $24!! An order of guacamole and chips was $12.99 and it was 1/4 cup of guac (we politely declined once we were shown how small it was). A quesadilla (small!) with chicken was $6.99! I must say my review is solely based on how unbelievably expensive it was. The food was actually good: torta cubano, steak taco meal, chicken quesadillas, 2 cokes and 1 horchata. The 3 steak taco meal was excellent however the tacos were mini. The service was terrific, our server was very attentive and very honest when we asked her questions about what to order. We wanted to try a different place instead of our usual spot and again the food was great but we did not intend on spending $78 before tip! There was also a $2.50 fee to pay by card. Needless to say we will not be returning, for only a little more money we could have gone to a Brazilian steakhouse! Buyer beware!! read more

So the first time I went into this spot I walked in thinking for what ever reason it was a grocery store! To my surprise I was so wrong! This spot is a Real Gem in the Addison area! There are many Mexican restaurants in this area and this one has leveled up with the best if not better. If you are a hungry man/women and not sure exactly what you want, Let me tell you! Order the "Torta Cubana" is got the whole kitchen and it's f'in GREAT! There soups are off the Chain (wonderful ). I know you can't give half stars, but this is more like a 3.5. Honestly, I can think of a few taquerias in the area that are better than Los 3. I can also think of a number of taco joints that are worse. This leans more toward a 4, but I gotta be truthful - I only go here if they are open and La Placita Taqueria (across the street) is close. The dining area is spacious, the people working there are friendly, and I can get my dose of telenovelas or movies dubbed en Español but I feel the food is not quite as tasty as my favorite taqueria and it's slightly pricier. I can say that the Taco de Lengue is very tender, but it doesn't have a whole lot of flavor to it. And I really wanted to try the Al Pastor but I believe it's one of the tacos where you can only order in multiples of 2 and I like to get a variety of tacos when I go. So sad that this place doesn't get higher reviews. I appreciate that they are open late and I doubly appreciate their elotes! The prices are pretty fair; however, I was disappointed that they couldn't just put the toppings from carne asada tacos onto an order of fries. Really?!? They weren't that busy and I have been madly craving carne asada fries. I was sad that they have such a low credit card minimum, but c'est la vie. When you're a small joint like this one, those credit card charges can rack up. While 3 Portrillos isn't stellar, if you are in the area and craving some Mexican comfort food, I recommend it. I only ate one taco here, but it was a great first impression! Although I expected the Chicharrones taco to be a bit crispy, it had a melt in your mouth texture that complemented the soft tortilla and crunch cilantro and onions. Like many tacquerias, they also offer free chips and salsa. I washed it all down with a Mango Jarritos (Mexican mango flavored soda). If you're in a hurry, you can order at the front counter, but they will also seat you and take your order at the table. This caused some confusion for our group, since some of us ordered at the counter, and some ordered with the waitress. One of our friends wasn't charged until he pointed it out to the waitress. This is a family friendly establishment. There's a TV that shows kids' movies, I think there was some kind of Disney or Nickelodeon show on. If your kids still can't sit still, well, there's always bribery: there were a few different packages of candy for sale at the register. Also...what's up with the deer heads (obviously fake) mounted to the wall? I didn't see Deer Tacos on the menu. read more

I don't think Tres Potrillos gets as much traffic as the more well-known taco joints in Addison (Los Burritos and La Placita). I'm guilty of overlooking this place too, but after the UYE: Lake Street Taco Tour, I'm kinda sold. While on the Taco Tour, I only sampled the alambre taco. I chose the alambre because it was different from the usual--steak or pastor. And you have to order two of them. So why so special? It was ham, it was chorizo, onions, peppers all in one taco. It was delicious. And it just beckoned me to come back and try another specialty taco. So I came back on another day to try the al carbon. Now in other taquerias, al carbon is pretty standard. But here, again, you have to order at least 2 (it says so on the menu!). It was delicious. The steak is marinated in spices and lime juice and is grilled to order. The steak is tender and juicy, and you can't go wrong with just the simple toppings of onion and cilantro. I also tried the chorizo taco, which was also very flavorful. It's greasy, but it's chorizo so it's going to be a bit greasy and it's going to goooooood. I'll take a pass on the al pastor next time. It was kind of dry and not too flavorful. Other loves: The red and green salsas on the table. I've always been partial to salsa verde, but the red sauce is pretty tasty here. Service is so friendly! Clean digs. Came here hoping for a good, cheap, authentic but FAST mexican place so that we didn't have to go to Taco Bell. Go to Taco Bell instead. Big issues: awful menu. Not clear what comes with what. Example rice and beans...are they included or not? Who knows...maybe you get lucky. The waitress couldn't habla ingles well enough to explain so we were surprised. The food sucked. We all ordered different things. Chicken burrito: awful with awful aftertaste. Steak taco: blah. Biggest issue: $10 minimum for using credit cards. None of us had cash. My gf and I combined ours. My buddy had a total of $9.49 and she refused to take his card or.bump it up to $10 even. He was forced to buy a pack of gum for$ 1.50 in order to use his card. Tried this place 'cuz my work mate likes it. just moved our office again and I need a good taquria. Pros: Bright, spacious. Food was good, well built burrito. Huge menu. Cons: Lengua on the menu but they said they are not serving anymore, $10.00 Credit Card minimum, prices a bit high. I normally will not order at a taquaria that does not serve Lengua tacos. My standrd to judge by. How hard is it to scratch an item off the menu and the board that you never plan to servre again? The $10 mininum is complete bullcrap. What's the point of a taqueria if you cant eat lunch for less than $10 ? Charizo buritto (not on menu but did it for me anyway) was quite good and evenly built, without rice filler. There service is good. Food is decent, but they have ELOTES!! That's the main reason they go. Their horchata isn't consistent, but it's decent. It's better than the tapatio's that's down Lake St. Their Elotes are so good. And very few restaurants offer that kind of street food. read more

This is one of the very few places I have been to that could care less about what the customer wanted, and simply would say "no" to everything. They were not very accommodating at all. I went out of my way to visit this place yesterday since I did not remember them being so un-accommodating...but I think I will not return after this experience. I just engulfed their 3 taco special (chicken, steak, and pork) with rice/beans and ordered an additional al pastor taco. I eat a lot of mexican food and try a new spot each time when I go out for lunch. This was my favorite so far in the elmhurst/benseville/addison area. I ordered togo after the lunch rush and I received my food in less than 3 mins. The lady even through in some free side of their carrots/veggies/jalepenos soaked in vinegar. Those were awesome as well. Looks like things have changed with all of these old reviews averaging 3 stars. This place is easily 4 stars and 5 stars in my opinion. Great job! I had passed this taco place a few times lately, and decided last night was the night to try them. I give them points for being open late and being very friendly and fast, but I would have taken a longer wait time for better quality food. I ordered three steak tacos with cilantro, onion, lettuce, and tomato on it (mexican & american style combined). There was barely any cilantro or onion on it, almost as if it was an after thought. The meat was in big pieces and had no flavor to it. I gave up after 1 taco and put the other two in the refridgerator. Maybe I'll give them the fridge tacos another shot, but I don't think I'll be returning here when there are so many other taco places in the area. Great for a taco stand. The expectations shouldn't be for a high quality dining experience nor should it be a "destination" but if you are near it and you are hungry, I recommend this wonderful little lunch spot. I've been going here for a few years now, and it has always been decent food in the past. No so much now. The last 3 times I came here (all since about Sept '13) the prices had gone up considerably and the quality has gone down. I don't know if maybe management has changed or just the food, but it was and is the same staff that's been here since I first came in just after it opened a few years ago. My staple is either the steak burrito (a good gold standard to judge anyplace by), a cecina burrito, which was always spicy and tender, al pastor tacos and the ceviche tostadas. I have never been able to complain about taste, quality and value for the buck before, but apparently that's all changed now. The main problem that I have had on the last few trips was both the fairly high price and smaller portion size, but also the amount of grease or oil that is apparently dumped on the food now. It was dripping and forming a not too small pool on my desk. This has happened for the last several burritos that my wife and I have ordered. On 2 previous visits, we called back to complain about the oily food, and on the first occaision, the phone person conveniently didn't speak any English, but we let it be that time. It just shows authenticity I guess. The second time I was told that that is how it's done and it's supposed to be that way. Since this is not my first rodeo, I knew better, but still let it slide (no pun intended) because everybody has a bad day here and there, and previously they were my go-to taqueria of choice in Addison. This time however will be my last time. I ordered a cecina burrito but ended up with a steak one instead (yes, I CAN tell the difference!...) and 3 greasy al-pastor tacos that were probably the worst al-pastor that I have ever had, and believe me, I've had a lot! The pork was just as greasy as the burrito, and the meat was barely seasoned except with a lot of salt. I know that al-pastor is marinated in a reddish sauce (achiote based, I think), but this was just plain salted pork in lots of grease. One burrito and 3 tacos for $14.77 - wow! The $10.00 credit card minimum is pretty much b.s., but it is very easy to rack up $10.00 worth of food here nowadays. The place is still pretty clean, and lots of Mexican novelty candies, chips, beer, etc. for sale too. They are open late on some nights, so that is a convenience for the late night munchies. The burritos have shrunk to a size similar to a Taco Bell Burrito Supreme at almost $7.00 each, and that's a crying shame T_T, but it's still more authentic than Taco Bell can ever dream of becoming. If you're in the area, and want some authentic Mexican fare, try La Placita across the street. It also has long hours and has a similar price structure, but of the few times I have tried it, it was just as tasty (or better perhaps) and not greasy. They have a more advanced menu as well. But if they are closed, Los Tres Potrillos may be the late night choice anyway; just get the cash out and buy get some extra wet wipes for the grease on your chin... I would probably give Potrillos 1 star instead of 2, but my nostalgia at a place that I have long enjoyed prohibits me. Perhaps they will get their act together again before other competition in the area closes them out for good. read more

The problem with this place as someone are small portions and high prices. For a 7.99 burrito, all I got was one table spoon of meat, the rest was lettuce which made the majority of the wrap, rice and sour cream with beans. The flavor of meat based on burritos and tacos is really good, but the place is very cheap on its amount. Not worth the money. read more

A small taqueria in a easily missed strip mall on Lake Street. I ordered two quesedellas and expected beans and rice to come with it and they didnt put it there. They have an extended menu of Mexican food and the dining area looked clean. Worst food I've had in a long time. Went around 730pm. No body was there. We came with 4 people and all of us were disappointed. Our rice wasn't cooked which my wife believes it was all sitting out for hours including the beans. We got our food super fast which makes sense if it wasn't cooked.
