I was turned onto Mariscos Guilen by a coworker who "swore by" this place's ceviche. Being that I have a fairly high stander for ceviche I decide to give it a go. This place is LEGIT! The restaurant does not have a 'scene' per say I mean we are taking basic tables and chairs and a sketch drawing of Cantinflas on the wall kinda of place. The ceviche here (I got the fish) is SOOOO good. It is somehow savory and tangy unlike any ceviche I have had. Ceviche tostadas are $3 each which they could easily double the price for the flavor. Also, the aguachile here is OFF THE CHAIN. I can't stress the freshness of it all it is amazing and big enough to split between 2 people. This place has become a Friday traddition!!! My order usually consist of 2 tostadas of fish ceviche and an order of aguachile. I hear the tacos here are good too but I have never veered from my usual order. My dearest Mariscos Guillen, I love you dearly. Like seriously guys, they are my childhood all piled up on a tostada, smeared with mayo(special request), covered in ceviche de camaron, then drizzled in ketchup, washed down with a Mexican Coca. I've been eating here and at their marisco/taco truck on arbor vitae since I can possibly remember, and there isn't a day where I will say no to a tostada from guillens. I've been having that exact dish since I was a little girl and I still LOVE IT. Over the years I've also had my share of camarones empanizados here and recently a newfound appreciation for cocteles de camaron, with a piña or mandarina Jarritos. I can't vouch for their tacos, but their burritos are pretty damn good, and I know this cause this is one of the few places my dad likes to get burritos from. My sister says their mixta is the best anywhere, again, I can't say cause I don't like mixtas but the bites I've taken of the jaiva are pretty freaking yummy. Also, the mojarras are great here, definitely worth it! I remember this is where I had my own mojarra for the first time when I was 11. The only complaint ever is that on the weekends the rokola is too damn loud, as well as the drunk or hungover guys singing along. read more

My mom wanted to try this place and take me out to lunch, I don't understand why this place has 4 stars cuz it isn't that great. I ordered a fish taco and a ceviche mixto. Not sure why it tastes sweet like teriyaki sauce but it's not a good flavor. I couldn't even eat the fish taco cuz it was so fishy and just didn't look good at all. I've tried making ceviches on my own and boy that's just too much work to get the fresh fish, soak it the right length of time, getting the flavors right... This is a little hidden place, do know that if you choose to go to this restaurant is for the food and not for the looks of the place... I would't say this is "The best" seafood place, but for the prices and for what's around this is as good as it gets... We took the family here for lunch while we visited LA. Everything was very good. The chicken quesadilla was big enough for our two small children with leftovers for us to sample. This is my go-to place for burritos and tacos in Hawthorne. I don't experiment all that much...happy with a bean, chicken and cheese burrito, and you get your money's worth. How is this place getting 5 stars? No way. I've had their carne asada tacos, burritos, mojarra frita (fried fish), shrimp cocktail, tostada de ceviche (fish). The food here is standard. Nothing close to delicious, but not bad. The tacos are comparable to Tio's Tacos, or Tacos el Unico. The seafood although standard, is fresh. I do enjoy the tostadas and salsa they start you off with, but overall, I've had better. if you live nearby, or are passing by and need a quick cheap bite, then this place is fine. They have a food truck; and although I am not fond of food trucks, their food is better in the truck than in their restaurant/shack. read more

We were looking to eat Mariscos and came across so we stopped in and ordered ceviche tostadas, camarones al mojo de ajo and a caldo de pescado. The food was terrible. First off, the food was served on flimsy cheap foam plates. The ceviche was made with ketchup and the shrimp lacked flavor. The camarones al mojo de ajo were just a bunch of shrimp in a soup of butter and tons of garlic salt. The fish soup lacked flavor. Very fast, VERY well priced and ridiculously good food. Ate there with my dad and he got the burrito he would usually get at any chain Mexican food place but for much cheaper, and same went for my tacos. Where my tacos would usually be around $10+ for 3 and his burrito would be around $12, our entire bill was $11.50. If you're going to put a price on good food, then that's a price I'd be happy with. Great $5 burritos, every time they don't disappoint. Taste very authentic not like the big name main stream burrito places (still like them but their burritos definitely are more tasty).
