As a person that loves seafood, I was beyond pleasantly surprised when I stopped in for a meal at Mariscos KC! I am definitely going back!! We had a calamari appetizer that was prepared with a signature sauce and onions. It was the best appetizer I've had in 2025 . It was such a unique taste and something I would definitely order again. My entrée was a seafood mix that was served in a black stone bowl. It came with crab, multiple large shrimp, muscles, scallops, smaller shrimp, and other things with a sauce. My fellow diners and I discussed ordering this again and splitting it between 2 to 3 people. Service was average, but food was served quickly. Several of us had drinks and were pleased with those as well. This location has been remodeled recently and it still shows. This is a niche concept to me seafood/Mexican/crab, boil and other non-seafood items. I highly highly recommend!

Went to Mariscos in Shawnee tonight. What a nice experience! They've redone the space nicely so it has a fun vibe. I do wish the music had been maybe 2 ticks quieter. But that's beside the point. To the experience: the waitress came over quite promptly. We started with a guacamole. It was interesting, in that it was topped with cucumbers. Not the best I've had but I don't know the last time I saw guac for $5 on a menu, so that was a pleasant surprise. Then we put in our orders: I got the shrimp fajitas with flour tortillas, my mom got the Mexican ramen, and my dad got one of the aguachiles. Food came out pretty promptly. My fajitas were delicious - and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. Not sure if they were fresh flour tortillas but the definitely had a hint of smoke, so I appreciated that detail. My mom enjoyed her soup though it was on the hot end for her, since it had half a jalapeno cut up in it. So just be aware to ask for no jalapeño, if that would be too much for you. My dad loved aguachile, which came with tostadas and crackers and mayo on the side - I guess popular accompaniments. He said he preferred my fajitas but we all thought the food was quite good - though both of them were being adventurous and didn't know what to expect of their meals. We decided to finish with the churro bites and ice cream, since a $5 dessert didn't seem like enough for 3 people. Boy were we wrong, the dessert could easily have fed 4, if not 5 people so for $11 it was quite a deal. The ice cream was incredible - the coconut with thaw mango drizzle was SO GOOD. And for people wanting churros, these are really fried pieces of bread (maybe breadsticks?) in cinnamon sugar, not actual churros (fried dough). Anyway, we loved the friendly service and the food and aside from a suggestion to turn the music down a hair, I didn't have any complaints. Check it out!

One of the best places to eat in kc! Exceptional seafood boil, drinks, everything I've had here is next level including the staff. Highly, highly recommend.

Tucked away in a cute shopping district is Penny's! We had no idea what we were walking in to but I am so happy to have found it! As you walk up you are greated by colorful upside down umbrellas with flowers inside, the water feature and the outside dinning! If it wasn't so hot I would have demanded sitting on the patio! As we were promptly seated in started hearing a "tink tink" sound and looked up. Yall!! The cutest glass hummingbirds were hanging from the ceiling. It was stunning!! Ok, the food!!! I had the crab fried rice which my husband had to help me finish because it was a huge amount! Share if you can but with the understanding you might fight over the last bite. If you still have room after dinner get the butter cake! Ladies, it is worth the calories! The waiter was prompt and had us with drinks in no time! This is an absolute do again if we are ever in the area!

The restaurant is nice and quaint. It wasn't super busy at the time we got therr which was good. Service was amazing, just like it is at Bamboo Penny. We both ordered tye Pad Thai. Mine with no peanuts with chicken and steak. Hubs had peanuts and chicken, steak, and shrimp. He also had a drink that looked like water but definitely wasn't. He said it was tasty. I had a Coke. Overall, a nice substitute if you can't get to Bamboo Penny. The only thing that was different was I wasn't offered the different sauces/spices to add to the Pad Thai.

There was a 'Happy Anniversary' card on our table signed by the staff, such a nice touch! Our waitress greeted us warmly and wished us happy anniversary and told us that for celebrating with them we'd receive a special dessert or a champagne toast. Another lovely surprise. We ordered cocktails and enjoyed their delicious bread service of freshly baked popovers. For dinner I had their Catch of the Day, Black Cod, wrapped in speck, served with saffron couscous. It could not have been more delicious. My husband enjoyed their Three Way Chicken, a dish so plentiful he took one piece home with him. We were both so pleased with our meals we didn't want to eat to excess, so our server offered to send our dessert home with us. The service, ambience and food were all wonderful. So glad we selected Silo as our place to celebrate!

Today's review comes to you from the land of manicured greens and pricing that definitely knows…read moreit's on a golf course. We hit the club for brunch with a group, and while the ambiance was pure "Country Club Chic," the execution was a bit more "Sunday Morning Sand Trap." The Liquid Courage I started off my round with two drinks. the Bloody Mary. It was fine--tasty enough, but it certainly didn't change my life or inspire any poetry. However, things got interesting with their Tequila/Cold Brew/Liquor 43 concoction. Topped with an egg foam cap, it was actually pretty solid. A bit of a gamble, but sometimes you have to roll the dice when the menu is trying that hard. The Culinary "Hit and Miss" Then came the food, or as I like to call it: The Great Consistency Crisis. The Steak: I asked for medium-rare; I received medium-well with a "char" that felt more like a personal vendetta against the cow. The Potatoes: Apparently, potato portions are determined by a lottery system. I received about half the amount of the person next to me. Maybe I didn't look hungry enough? The Eggs: My over-easy eggs had crispy, hard edges and arrived at a temperature I'd describe as "lukewarm at best." We also had to hunt down salt and pepper like we were on a scavenger hunt. Honestly, I probably should have just hit the buffet and cut out the middleman. The Service Our server was perfectly nice, but he appeared to be roughly twelve years old. Since he wasn't legally old enough to understand the complexity of a craft cocktail, he couldn't give us any info on the drink menu. We just had to "go with our gut"--which is a dangerous game when tequila and cold brew are involved. The Verdict I'm not saying I won't be back, but consider this a fair warning: if Round 2 involves another charred steak and a side of "room temperature" eggs, I'll be sending it back for a rerun faster than a shanked drive into the woods. 3/5 Stars -- Great for people-watching, questionable for potato-equity.
