Although, whenever I have the chance and craving a fish taco, I always think of these!! You can tell they put their passion into their business because the food is made to order and on your plate as fresh as can be. I truly admire that from any business that only provides quality ingredients. I have never stepped foot in the restaurant but their food truck is very convenient to go to. While I was sitting there, a nice man asked me if I'd like a cup of soup- he was going to give me a cup of soup for free. Shockingly courteous. Other than limited street parking, it's a disaster in this area. There's illegal parking available in the many apartment complexes nearby but you do you. I tried the fish taco and the (fried) shrimp burrito. I know everyone goes gaga over $2,00 fish tacos but I found it very ordinary. It's nothing special. The shrimp burrito is not crazy long but it's nice and fat and stuffed with fried shrimp. You can get it with grilled shrimp, if you prefer. It has a ton of shrimpy seaftflavor and I loved it. Yummy! Found this spot on a whim and it's a nice hidden gem in the streets of San Marcos. I had the best octopus taco here, the only octopus taco I've ever had but still so delicious. The peppers are very spicy but not all of them are. A bit pricey for one taco but the portion is a good size and again, so delicious - cooked perfectly. The shrimp burrito is simple. Not too heavy or oily at all. Veggies are fresh. The waitresses are nice. This is a good spot to practice your Spanish too haha. My only cons are that I tried to get a water cup and to go box but had to wait a bit, no one was at the counter for a while. I didn't see a salsa bar or fresh sauces to use, only bottled sauces. I frequent San Marco's once a month because I manage a community near by. Every time I come to the area, I need to get my aguachile fix. This restaurant is nestled in a cute little area of San Marcos across from a small park and splash pad for kids. I usually order the aguachile verde - not too spicy but you can definitely tell them to custom make it to be spicier. And I have to grab myself a fish taco. The fish tacos are only $2; which is such a steal for the amount of fish and toppings on the taco. After you order, the server brings you some soup and chips like you would get at a Mariscos truck. Their choice of salsas are endless and the free chips and soup are delicious. If you are in the area, don't waste your time and go here! The grilled shrimp burrito was just okay, there was too much folded bunched up tortilla in the corner (see pic). The fish tacos are a great deal and delicious, the fish was very soft on the inside and the crust was crispy and hot. The aguachile tostada was also tasty, the raw shrimps tasted fresh with a spicy lime marinade. Love the variety of salsas available while dining in. We also were served free chips and small cups of consome with a shrimp each which was a nice flavorful side. No free water, I got a sparkling mineral water for $2.50. You pay at the cashier first who mostly spoke Spanish but that's how you know the food is going to be authentic and delicious. The food came out quickly despite other reviews, though we came on a weekday at 7pm. There was only one other table of 2 dining in and a few walk in to-go orders. It's a bit tricky to find parking, there's a lot of apartment complexes nearby with resident parking only. Food is great, service not so much. Slow to bring food out, even with very few patrons. My biggest gripe is the following. Purchased a bottled soft drink and sat outside. Bees (yes, bees) were attracted to the bottle and one flew into my drink. I informed the waitress about this and she responded, "oh yeah, there are a lot of bees out there". When I asked for a replacement, she said "no, because it's not our fault there are bees out there". When I asked for a cup of water, she said "we don't have cups of water, only bottles for purchase". Also, at least give me a cup of water instead of obligating me to buy a bottle! And all of this after I tipped 20% BEFORE any service was rendered. I was given a strong recommendation from a coworker about Mariscos La Baja. So I came with the family to try it out. I was apprehensive that my kids wouldn't enjoy this place but we took a chance anyway. Tip - This restaurant is located in a large apartment complex. There's zero parking available along the entire street (the architects of this building completely underestimated how many cars the tenants would own so they've basically taken all street parking and business slots.. We almost went to a "plan B" because there was no parking. But we drove around the block and on our second pass we saw a sign stating there was Mariscos parking in back. There were several reserved spaces back there. When we first walked in there was nobody up front. They had a lot of customers but nobody manning the register. It seemed like 5 minutes before someone came up. We ordered too much, by design, and found a table. I'll start with good - - The complementary shrimp consommé was excellent. - The fish tacos were great and at 1.75 a very good price. Recommended, especially with that spicy mayo sauce at the table. - Their burritos are thick, and mostly full of dry ingredients inside. That's my preference because I hate soupy burritos filled with liquid like american guacamole and soaked with marinade juices. Needs work. - To devein or not to devein, that is the question. The shrimp cocktails had 80% shrimp with vein, and interestingly enough, 20% deveined.. in any case, that didn't sit well with the family. Yes, I know that when you order a surf and turf burrito at any taco shop it's rarely deveined. But it's also kinda hidden. This is probably traditional Mariscos, fair enough, but if it bothers you, you'll should skip the Shrimp cocktail. - Service could be better, especially when they hit you up for 15% tip on your receipt. - They offer chips, but no salsa. They only have taco sauces. Traditional Mariscos thing? - Because they leave the front doors open, there were several wasps in the dining room. It took them an HOUR to make a single burrito, it took another guy 20 minutes to get an extra pack of sauce and another patron had to wait an hour+ for his burrito. It's located between the railroad tracks and the new apartments. Plenty of parking at the back with yellow curbs. Our tostada loka was a giant tower of seafood ceviche plus mollusks rimming the plate. That dish could feed four people! It's been open for 8 months and I suppose because of the location it hasn't been getting much attention so it was empty when we went in on a Thursday evening. I hope they will stay in business because we want to make ourselves regulars here. The tostada loka was not only packed with a variety of seafood such as clams, oyster, scallops, shrimp, octopus, fish, but the combination and flavor was making it addictive! Their tostadas and corn chips were so crispy too. The highlight of my meal was the shrimp quesadilla. Hmmm the perfectly stringy melted cheese with plump shrimp and sautéed celery. They tasted good even after reheating in the microwave. Their fish tacos were comparable to Mariscos truck. The food here is so darn good I absolutely love the shrimp cocktail it's a 10/10 and the consume is cheap and delicious I have so much shrimp left from my cocktail I add it to my consume and it's bomb! I also love the aguachile tostada just thinking about the food again makes my mouth water! The service has definitely upped its game since they first opened I can't definitely see the difference in the new service. The vibe of the place is loud but mellow. The only I say is bad about this place is the parking they maybe have 10-15 designated parking spots near an apartment complex which I'm pretty sure 1. The staff parks in those spots and I've been people who live in the complex park in the spots as well. This place has the absolute worst customer service! Came here on Father's Day to pick up an order that we had called ahead at 5:50 PM. Arrived to pick up our order at around 6:20 PM. Not one person came to the front to greet us and ask if we needed any help even after ringing their service bell. I understand they were pretty busy, however there should ALWAYS be staff available to help customers with placing orders or with any pick up orders. Finally after waiting 10 minutes at the front, a young girl that was visibly overwhelmed with her tables came to help. She let us know our order was still not ready and it would be another 20 minutes. So it takes an hour for your food to be ready even when calling ahead, that is RIDICULOUS!!!
