I'm always shocked to see low or negative reviews. My husband and I come here quite frequently and have never had a bad meal or bad service.

First time trying this place granted I did order Uber eats. I tried the Menudo. It has a ton of hominy but lacks meat there's literally like very little bite-size pieces of meat. I have to say I'm a little bit disappointed. I heard a lot of great things about this place. I'll have to try something else, but definitely not the Menudo that you would think. They sell red and white. I tried the red and it came with oregano, lemon onion, and cilantro. I would not return for their Menudo. It's a little lackluster. read more

Has a cozy, family-owned feel, and the service was warm and quick from the moment I walked in. I started with the menudo. The flavor was decent*, but the ratio was off extremely off, too much corn and not enough broth. I even had to ask for a side of broth just to balance it out. The same thing happened with the side of onion and cilantro; the onion-to-cilantro ratio was mostly onion, so I had to ask for extra cilantro. I tried both the barbacoa and the carne asada tacos. I've never had lettuce on my tacos, but hey -- now I have. The barbacoa was good, but the carne asada had a very gamey, overly animal-like taste, the kind of flavor you're not supposed to notice when the meat is fresh. I couldn't finish it; I took one bite and had to spit it out because the meat tasted off, and I even felt the need to ask the server to try it. Overall, the service and atmosphere were great, but the flavor balance and meat quality need improvement. I'll keep looking for my go-to Mexican comfort food spot. . . If anyone has had an amazing experience with Mexican comfort food anywhere in the desert region, please let me know; I'm willing to drive. I really like supporting local or family owned businesses so I gave this restaurant a try and since it's right down the street from my work. I ordered the Carne Asada torta. It looked really good, but as soon as I bit into it, I got the taste of detergent from the bread. It was too strong. I could not eat the bread so I just ended up eating the meat. The meat was OK it's not true Asada meat. The green salsa was pretty good. But all in all I'd rather have a torta from Filiberto's and I am not a big fan of their tortas either. read more

Was excited about coming here but was very disappointed. Ordered a Chile relleno with rice and beans and corn tortillas on the side. The Chile relleno tasted like it was made days prior and left uncovered in a fridge to soak up every other flavor in the refrigerator then reheated and served to me. Honestly id rather eat at Filiberto's: chile rellenos were just plain battered peppers no cheese or toppings. Carne asada burrito super bland, and enchiladas were extremely mid. I never like to give bad reviews but this was our second time at this restaurant and we know why we haven't been there in a while. I always like to support family owned businesses and always hope that the food is above average but today the food was average at best. We saw a plate come out to another customer that had eggs on it and expecting to see fried potatoes we saw french fries which possibly could've been asked for I don't know but normally you would get nice fried potatoes with your eggs but I'm not going to second-guess this one. I ordered a chorizo omelette with beans and it was just OK nothing to write home about but the beans were real watery. My wife ordered a Carne Asada Nachos and they were just average at best. The salsa wasn't very good especially the red salsa just really had no flavor. The best thing about our visit was the iced tea, it was at least very good. We've been going for so many years and the food has always been consistent but after today we're not sure about going back. I was stirring my husband's fresh cup of coffee and when I lifted the spoon back out there was a dead roach inside. Yes, the staff seemed genuinely apologetic but still charged us for the coffee. Nobody should ever have to pay for an item after that experience. read more

Went in today for lunch as my husband was in the mood for menudo. They gave us our drinks and salsa but no chips. I ordered sopes. When the food came my rice was cold and was bland. The sopes were no fresh at all. The menudo was hot, but was flavorless. Overall the experience was disappointing. We will never come back and definitely will bot recommend. Eat local! Located in the town of Tolleson, sits this gem of a Mexican restaurant. Inside you will find a friendly and home vibe type of restaurant. There is nothing fancy about this gem however the food is on point! Twice I have ordered the red Chile burrito and twice I have been satisfied!!! The staff at Irma's Mexican Food are warm, friendly, and extremely personable, which is why I feel terrible for calling out their Mexican food as bland, tasteless, and poorly executed. The food at Irma's isn't so much bad as it is bland, and the presentation is sloppy, even for a fast food establishment. On this visit we had the Beef Tacos and Barbacoa Sopas, all of which border on terrrible. The Barbacoa Sopas were drowned in a tastelesd red sauce with a very small amount of diced up pieces of meat, and topped off with a combination of cheese, grease, and more grease. The food could have been worse, unpleasant flavors would certainly be worse than no flavor at all. I wasn't expecting fine dining, nor was I expecting terrible Mexican dishes. read more

The food is good, nothing extravagant or mind blowing. The menudo during the weekends is always on point. I usually get mine con pan, instead of with tortillas. Since I've been eating here for so long I always find my self ordering the same items... all the time. If it's not a breakfast burrito (ham, egg and beans), then it's menudo. Sometimes I get crazy and order the chile rellenos plate or camarones rancheros, both rarely disapoint. The camarones rancheros plate is a shrimp dish that is served with rice and Irma's signature runny beans. It is served up in spicy red sauce that is "muy delicioso" and garnished with lettuce on the side. The chile rellenos plate is what you would expect chile rellenos to be. No suprises here, just good sized green chiles stuffed with white cheese and coated with egg. This plate is served with the typical rice and beans and lettuce on the side. read more

This is a very plain basic, cafe like place. The food was good, but the kind of food I would make at home for my family, basic Mexican food that is good but nothing special or memorable. The rice I had some of it was hard, same thing goes for my tortilla. Kind of like a bad night of cooking at home... some stuff fails at times. You pay at a counter, which right behind is a microwave where the cook was warming up food.... did I eat last night's left overs? Irma's is right next to Pete's fish and chips where the line was out on the road. This place was not busy at all, so I thought great, I'll try it. I walked in and tables are marked with an X to allow for social distancing. I go up to cashier (she's wearing her mask on her chin) to pay for my food. As I'm standing there waiting, I see another lady making food with no gloves, bare hands a tostada shell and adds the beans and cheese, she not only is preparing food with no gloves, she does not have a mask on! They bag it and hand the order to me...it was my order that was made with no gloves on! To top it off, the cook starts to cough after I grab my order. I walk out thinking did that just really happen? The menudo is the best! Beans are delicious and the food never changes. Here are the reasons I didn't give 5 stars. The restaurant itself is not in very good condition, it's defiantly a dive but overall I don't mind. They don't actually serve breakfast potatoes they serve French fries. Yes, I know they are both potatoes but it's just weird to me. A Mexican restaurant should serve Mexican style papas for breakfast not French fries. They only accept cash. Only because the salsa and chips where great. Not fresh!!!! Meat tasted old! I ordered 3 sopes. Carne asada, green chile ( beef ) and barbacoa. The actual sopes on point! The meat however, not so good. Imagine when you put meat in the fridge to thaw out over night. But the next day you forgot all about it. The weekend rolls around and you open your fridge and you get brutally attacked by the stench of what was. Once a red juicy steak, now dried shriveled brown rotting protein mass. I'm not saying Irma cooked old meat but im pretty sure their lame excuse of carne asada had been cooked and reheated more times then I care to imagine. On a good note my wife liked their hard shredded beef taco. And for that my dearest Irma you get 2 stars. Ps the sound of the microwave door opening and closing never a good sign. We have been going to Irma's for over 10 years! They have truly the best Menudo ever! The meat is cut perfectly and the flavor is always on point!!! The chilaquiles are to die for!!!
