If I could only recommend ONE restaurant in San Diego, it would be Marisi. I don't say that lightly. I'm still relatively new to exploring the restaurant scene, but after dining at Marisi, I genuinely understood what people mean when they talk about a restaurant that leaves an impression. I'm from Orange County, and every single time I come to San Diego, Marisi has become my non-negotiable stop. What immediately stands out is the quality and freshness of the food. There's a level of precision and intention behind every dish that makes even the simplest plates memorable. We started with the focaccia and Caesar salad, and both were phenomenal. The Caesar was incredibly fresh, balanced, and full of flavor--one of those dishes that proves simplicity can be remarkable when the ingredients and execution are right. The prawns were another standout. They had this beautiful smoky, savory depth that made every bite incredibly satisfying. Then came the spicy rigatoni, which may have been my favorite dish of the night. Rich, creamy, and perfectly spicy, the sauce had so much depth without overpowering the pasta. It was indulgent but still balanced, and honestly, I could have eaten the entire plate twice. The cocktails were equally impressive, and the service was attentive without ever feeling intrusive. Then there's the atmosphere. The dark, low-lit dining room creates this intimate, sophisticated setting that makes you want to stay for another round, order another glass of wine, and turn dinner into an entire evening. Their wine selection only adds to the experience. Freshness is one of the most important things I look for when dining out, and Marisi absolutely nails it. Every dish we ordered had its own personality, with layers of flavor and a clear sense of intention behind it. Nothing felt excessive or unnecessarily complicated. It was simply exceptionally well-executed food. I've been to plenty of restaurants that were good. Marisi is one of the few that makes me think about the meal long after I've left. So yes--every time I'm in San Diego, I'm going to Marisi. It's become my standard, and honestly, other restaurants have a lot to live up to now.

Fun spot with a great ambiance! We came here with some friends for lunch and it felt like we were grabbing lunch on vacation in Europe. The focaccia wasn't my favorite, but I really enjoyed their spicy rigatoni. Definitely want to come back and try their carpaccio as well.

Beautiful space with a very nice interior and exterior. Service was quick and great throughout the meal. The Caesar Salad was tasty and a big portion. The sauce was bit light but the flavor was solid. The best dish of the night was the Filet Mignon Carpaccio. An explosion of flavor that really blew me away. This is a must get. The broccolini was also flavorful and overall a good side dish. The pastas were definitely disappointing to say the least. The Spicy Rigatoni was very average flavor wise and really did not do anything special. I appreciate the lighter pomodoro sauce but I would prefer a heavier-hitting tomato sauce that packs a punch. The flavor was similar to eating a margherita pizza with how clean and simple it was. The short rib Parpadelle flavor wise was better, but the texture of the noodles was not right. They were slightly overcooked and they stuck together which is a huge no no if I'm eating pasta out.

Marisi is total eye candy. The decor is stunning, offering comfortable seating on the bright, blossoming outside patio or intimate, darker dining inside. We opted for outside seating and although there were dozens of people nearby, we felt we had our own space for a private dinner. No detail goes unnoticed here from the attractive tile you walk on, to the fresh flowers on the table with pretty glassware, skinny knives and floral ceramics with Marisi written on them. Liz offered personable and stellar service. The drinks (and dessert) were the highlights for me- passionfruit martini, aperol spritz and Italian orange wine. The food was unique- not traditional Italian food, imo. As a vegetarian, I was hoping for eggplant parmigiana or other vegetarian options but didn't find that here. Maybe one day ;) Overall, it was a lovely experience.

Delicious beyond words... the fresh pasta, light and flavorful sauces, crisp and flaky fresh fish, (not pictured, fresh oven baked focaccia)--every single item on our table was devoured. From the moment you walk in you are greeted warmly and the atmosphere is bustling with energy. There are fresh flowers on each table and the interior is very pretty, with elaborate wallpaper and pretty decorations. The waitress was super friendly and helped us choose our dishes, all of which were so delicious. I would definitely visit again, especially for nice occasions!!

Marisi was great. Hostess with the mostest- we watched her genuinely serve everyone she interacted with. Wait staff was hit and miss. Loved the foods. Get the cinnamon bun! Portions were generous. Tried the espresso martini and it was delish. We wanted lunch and didn't realize they did brunch but should have thought of that. And they were out of stuff. We tried the cake too. Everything was tasty though. This is right in the heart of downtown and we found free street parking around the block. Decor was incredibly cute.

Solid place - and a cute option to go too if you're out & about La Jolla. Probably wouldn't come just for this restaurant though. Ordered the Spicy rigatoni which was not spicy at all but still not bad. Also got the Branzino which was fabulous (if you don't mind spitting out tiny fish bones) This place feels like more 3/5ish but the food was still cooked well and the location pretty prime....

This beautiful restaurant in the heart of La Jolla was amazing. From the wait staff to the lovely ladies who greet you when you come into the restaurant. The restaurant has nice food options. They had a beautiful set menu for Mothers Day. 1st course was a tiramisu coffee cake 2nd course was smoked salmon & popup bagels tower and lemon bucatini with the 3rd course pistachio & raspberry soft serve swirl. Everything was amazing. We also enjoyed the pornstar martini. Everything was amazing. The restrooms were so nice with custom candles & hand soap. I would definitely go back.

Came here as it is a part of Chase Sapphire's OpenTable promotion. We came on a fairly uneventful weekday and, even with a reservation, waited about 15 minutes (we did arrive about 5 minutes early) despite there seemingly to be plenty of unoccupied tables at the time. The menu is short but sweet, and so the assumption is simply that the flavors presented are exceptional/balanced. This is where I made a poor assumption. Focaccia - not your traditional presentation, it's actually a rather large roll. The bread is lightly sweet but has a crisp exterior and soft interior, though airier than you'd expect with a traditional focaccia. The form factor overall was cute but one could argue....unwieldy? It required tearing and slicing while squishing the bread, vs just a standard portion/slab. "Salsa Verde" is actually closer to a tabbouleh with oil than anything I'd remotely call a salsa. Funghi - flavor is interesting at first, but the base flavor of mushroom is dominant. The sauce is a nice add but it doesn't complement the dish enough, and tastes like an afterthought to (weakly) balance the punchy mushroom flavor. Also, unclear if the dish had been sitting on a cold pass for too long, but it was served at room temp (not warm/hot). Agnolotti - lemon sauce is quite salty but thin. Crab is good and fresh tasting inside, but the thickness of the agnolotti is just a hair too thick; just a millimeter or two thinner and the balance and bite would've been there. Dusk lasagna - Dominant duck flavor without coming off as gamey or dry. Sauce served as a good complement and accent to the dish. Ratio of duck to pasta is high (a lot of duck to just a bit of pasta), which is great for value and still acceptable in terms of flavors. As you dive more into the dish, the composition is revealed and it feels a bit underwhelming: duck rolled in a lasagna noodle with sauce on and around the roll, topped with duck prosciutto and a cheese foam. As you continue on, you realize that you're really missing out on the cheese content of the dish. While adding to the body of the dish, it would've toned down the sauce acidity and the saltiness of the duck. Limoncello tiramisu - a pattern of ladyfingers and mascarpone that is topped/bottomed with a lemon curd. A bit disappointing; could've soaked in limoncello a bit more or infused some zest into the mascarpone. Overall, dishes were trying very hard to be unique but lacked cohesiveness in all areas.

We had dinner reservations for a birthday dinner and it turned out to be amazing. The cutest interior design and kind staff. Even though service took quite a bit of time for a Friday night, they came by frequently to apologize. We had: -prawns (solid, but not out of ordinary, can skip this appetizer) -beef carpaccio (incredible, must order) -little gem salad (loved this salad) -spicy rigatoni (so good, highly recommend) -branzino (perfectly cooked) -lemon tiramisu (I'm still dreaming about this and would come back just for this) Cocktails were delicious and the food was great. Would recommend!

Ambiance gets 10/10. I loved the decor inside, & the outdoor patio was charming. I came for dinner & sat inside. Next time, I would love to have lunch & enjoy the outdoor seating. Service was AMAZING. Our server gave us great recommendations & was really selling the menu. It made me wish we came with a big group so we could order everything & try each dish. Even though it was a very busy night with a party of 20 sitting behind us, she was patient & attentive. I felt taken care of & can't wait to return. Local Crudo: What a refreshing dish with the perfect amount of citrus. It was a little smaller than I expected, but quality was definitely served. Wagyu Carpaccio: This was heavily seasoned & I didn't taste much of the wagyu. It wasn't bad, but definitely way too much aioli sauce on it (I think it was aioli). It was a very busy night so I'm assuming that maybe they were rushing & just threw everything on top. I've seen pictures where they lightly topped everything so I'm guessing next time it'll be better. Short-rib Pappardelle: This was perfect, the noodles tasted freshly made & meat was tender. A lot of places make this dish very heavy, but not here. It was my favorite of the night. Dessert: My sister & I tried one of their new dessert items which was the white chocolate tiramisu ice cream. AMAZING. It was sweet, but not overwhelming sweet. I loved the crunchy malted crunchies they added on top. I would definitely order this again. Overall, I had a great time. Everything was really good, came out in a timely manner, & servers were top notch. Portions were a tad bit smaller than expected, but quality compensates. Parking can be tricky during dinner rush even on a week day, but they have plenty of paid parking lots. Can't wait to return & try other dishes I was eyeing.

I've been to Marisi just once for brunch and it was good. Their menu was small so not too many options to choose from but my friends said their dinner menu is better so I might come back to try that. Their spicy rigatoni was really dry and not spicy at all but that caesar salad and cinnamon roll were delicious.

Our server repeatedly came over to our area and waited on every table around us, yet somehow our wine never came. At one point, I actually walked up to him to ask about our order, and he asked me what table we were sitting at, as if he's never seen me- even though he had already spoken to us. The entire interaction was incredibly strange. After another 15 minutes of waiting, with still no wine and no one checking on us, we finally said we were just going to leave. Only then did he tell us, "Sorry, the ticket never printed." But during all that time, he never once checked to see why our wine hadn't come out or followed up on the order. Meanwhile, the bartender was standing there with virtually no one to serve. We were honestly baffled by the entire experience. We weren't asking for anything complicated--we just wanted a glass of wine--and after nearly an hour we left without ever receiving it. The whole situation was so strange, uncomfortable, and poorly handled that we will absolutely not be returning.

On the wine front, Gata absolutely delivers. The wine list is thoughtfully curated, and it's the kind of place where one glass quickly turns into two because there are simply too many interesting options to pass up. Unfortunately, the food didn't come close to matching either the quality of the wine program or the price point. We ordered the deviled eggs, which turned out to be hard-boiled eggs sliced in half with a piece of ham placed on top. When you order deviled eggs, you generally expect, well... the eggs to actually be deviled. We mentioned our disappointment to the bartender, who was wonderful, engaging, and genuinely enjoyable to talk with. The explanation was that this is simply their interpretation of deviled eggs. Fair enough, but it wasn't an interpretation that worked for us. Ironically, the standout dish of the evening was the pigs in blankets, which is not a sentence I ever expected to write about an upscale wine bar. They were delicious, but they also raised the question of why the rest of the menu wasn't reaching the same level. Looking back, we realized we were the only people actually eating while everyone else was there for the wine. In hindsight, that should have been the clue. I only wish someone had mentioned that before we made the trip over expecting a tapas experience. Gata has so much potential. The atmosphere is lovely, the wine selection is excellent, and the staff were fantastic. If the small plates eventually rise to the level of the wine program, this place could be truly special. Until then, I'd absolutely recommend it for drinks, but probably not for dinner.
