The pasta alone was really good. The carbonara was rich and overall was well cooked. We were not seated where we were supposed to due to delays. There unfortunately was no where else to sit except the bar area. As a result, we ended up sitting eating dinner there while a dancing event was going on. We had reservations for a Saturday night, and there was an event at the time that loudly took over most of the seating where folks were dancing. So happy my family and decided to try this restaurant for lunch . Stunning Italian style restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining options. It is located at the Westfield mall in La Jolla on street level . We got seated on the patio since the weather was perfect . Our server, Marco came over to introduce himself and asked us about drink preferences and told us the daily specials. We started off with fresh fish appetizer which was so surprising delicious. It was prepared with fried capers, olive oil and spices . ( not your traditional ahi ) * I would recommend this dish 100%! We also ordred the special beef Porterhouse which came pre sliced for easy sharing . It was a bit pricey ( $ 129) , but it was shared by my husband, daughter and myself! The restaurant itself is gorgeous, with a beautiful bar & great decor. Everything else was disappointing. We sat at the bar (Saturday night, around 6:30pm) and found seats right away. Service was awful, there were at least 3 staff members behind the bar, 1 who was somewhat helpful but the other 2 paid zero attention to us. It took at least 5 minutes to even acknowledge us (and the bartenders truly were not that busy, they were just talking to each other / hanging out at the POS). Food is okay but not worth the prices. We had a Caesar salad, the linguine with white clams & spicy vodka rigatoni. There is a complimentary cheese/olive dish (olives are spicy). Bread service is $6. The linguine with white clams is good but has a kick to it & some of the clams just came empty. The spicy vodka rigatoni is not creamy at all & pretty spicy. It was decent but if you're looking for a more creamy dish, this isn't it. Overall, not an experience worth $$$. There's better Italian in SD. Food was a 3 but ambiance was a 4. The best things were the dessert. The tiramisu was delicious and that banana cake dessert was fire. It takes 15-20 mins to make. The Caesar and meatballs were okay. The meatball was a little dry but the flavor was good. The Cacio E Pepe was good. It was light and pasta was al dente. We subbed out the mussels for clams. It was made in a white wine sauce and Calabrian chilis. This was pretty good, but most of our clams were empty. The spicy vodka wasn't what I expected. It had more a tomato flavor vs a creamy tomato with a hint of spicy. It wasn't spicy to me. Maybe I was thinking it would be like Carbone's but it's far from it. The crudo of the day was the ahi. We had the arancini (fried rice and mozzarella balls), lobster spicy vodka sauce pizza, and vodka sauce with rigatoni and meatballs. The meatballs are HUGE and are about the size of a baby's fist. I was in town for a work trip and staying nearby at the Marriott and some work colleagues and I saw the decent reviews and we thought we'd give this smart looking Italian restaurant a try. Certainly the place is impressive looking. The tables are widely spaced, the waiter brought over a tiny coat rack for my colleagues to hang her purse and jacket - so that kind of service in this day and age is nice to see. The menu was not unsurprisingly a little steep for what they are serving - but I get it, you are paying in large part for the location and setting. Not sure a small (and I mean small) bowl of simply fried calamari should be $30+ dollars, but we ordered it thinking it might be more shareable for the four of us. It was a teaspoon each. No finesse. They could have added some nicely fried lemon slices or fried olives to the order but it was just a teenie tiny bowl of fried squid. It would be small for a bowl of cereal ! Once that arrived I knew we were in for more tiny plates...and that's how it played out. The almost $40 pizza with arugula and a thin veil of prosciutto was also rather tiny (12-14 inches across) and disappointingly not as crusty on the bottom undercarriage as one would hope a proper Italian restaurant featuring pizza would produce. It was doughy, the sauce was nondescript and quite honestly we almost didn't finish it despite its diminutive size. It really didn't impress at all. I mistakingly gave the tagliatelle with nonna's 60 hr meat sauce a try, thinking certainly that a classic pasta and meat sauce would be a slam dunk for an Italian restaurant but I should have noticed that they really don't feature pastas here and I now think I know why...it was very pedestrian and the sauce kind of lacked. I added one meatball and that was helpful but it was a very average pasta and red sauce w a meat ball coming in at $40. The waiter eventually came by and asked if I wanted grated cheese and once again they are using a metal grater like off a box grater with very large holes so it ends up like paint chips on top of what was now a Luke warm pasta dish. It never melted or even appropriately reheated into the dish because the size of the hard cheese was way too thick and the pasta dish was luke warm. Probably sitting and waiting for the grilled bronzino my colleague had (a much better choice), and the large grilled shrimp another coworker ordered. They looked good as well but neither came with a side and for $50-60+ a dish perhaps some table bread and olive oil or a small scoop of veggies might be nice ? We ordered a small side of mushrooms and broccolini to share and they were perfunctory. Nothing notable. I have to admit, I was genuinely unimpressed with what we were served and it might explain why the restaurant was only half full during dinner hour when it looked like the Mexican place next door and the soup dumpling place one flight upstairs were packed. There are two things that Lucrezia excels at: serving mediocre food and providing even worse service. In fact, the service my bridal party received was the worst dining experience I have ever encountered. We arrived as a party of eight for a bachelorette celebration and had a patio reservation for 7:45 PM. Initially, the evening started off well as we ordered appetizers and drinks. However, when our drinks arrived, our waitress, Kimmi, spilled an espresso martini on the bride and stated that she would "get to the mess later." If you spill a drink on a guest, why would you not immediately offer to replace it? Instead, she aggressively dropped a dirty rag in front of the bride and continued serving drinks to the rest of the table. Not only did she fail to prioritize cleaning up the mess she created, but she also largely ignored it, leaving the bride to use the rag herself to clean up the spill. Unfortunately, the service continued to deteriorate throughout the evening. At one point, our waitress incorrectly entered an order for a spicy vodka rigatoni with grilled shrimp, resulting in the dish being prepared with grilled chicken instead. When the mistake was brought to light, she told the kitchen staff in front of our entire party to "just scoop off the chicken and add shrimp on top." What if that person in my party was allergic to chicken? This response was both unprofessional and concerning, as it demonstrated a lack of attention to quality control and proper food-handling standards. As the entrees arrived, additional issues became apparent. My Caesar salad was served without the shrimp I had paid an additional $14 to add. When I brought the oversight to the staff's attention, I was simply offered the shrimp on the side rather than being provided with the dish as ordered. As shown in the photo, the shrimp that should have been served on my Caesar salad was instead originally brought separately on the red dish next to it after I pointed out the mistake. As we continued comparing meals across our table, we also noticed significant inconsistencies in portion sizes. When we brought this up to our waitress, she dismissed our complaints instead of addressing them. Their lack of quality control became even more evident when another member of our party received stray spaghetti noodles in their gnocchi dish. In the end, we chose not to leave a tip due to the disappointing customer service, mediocre food, and overall lack of cleanliness throughout the restaurant. Behind our table, a dirty glass and rag had been left sitting on the windowsill for the duration of our meal. To make matters worse, Kimmi confronted a member of our party about the absence of a tip and did so in an aggressive and unprofessional manner. She stated that she was "forced to pay her staff out of her own pocket" and that she was "pregnant." These comments came across as an attempt to make our party feel guilty for not tipping despite the consistently poor service throughout the evening. I didn't care for the mayo sauce it came with, but the spicy pomodoro sauce was the saving grace. The fries were tasty, with a nice crispiness, and the rosemary and cheese really elevated them. Between the two, I would recommend the fries and would order them again. The Aperol spritz was delicious and well balanced. Overall, I loved the décor and ambiance of the restaurant. I had mixed feelings about my experience. When I first arrived, I was genuinely impressed. The restaurant is beautiful, the design is elegant, and the atmosphere initially felt exactly like the sophisticated dining experience I was hoping for. I even complimented several staff members because I loved the ambiance so much. Unfortunately, the experience changed dramatically during dinner. A large birthday party was taking place on the patio, and the restaurant allowed extremely loud Latin music that completely transformed the atmosphere. I love salsa and Latin music, so at first I thought there might be a special event or dancing happening. Instead, it was a private birthday celebration that became so loud it overwhelmed the entire restaurant. For a restaurant at this price point, I don't think that's appropriate. It completely changed the character of the dining experience and made it difficult to enjoy our meal and conversation. Another disappointment was the bread. Our server asked if we'd like more bread to go with our mussels, and we assumed it was being offered so we could enjoy the broth. There wasn't much broth left, and we were surprised to find an extra charge for the additional bread. It would have been appreciated if that charge had been mentioned when it was offered. On top of that, some mussels were empty. I also had carbonara pasta, it was good so as Tiramisu. The service itself was friendly, and I still think the restaurant is beautiful. However, I left feeling that the overall experience didn't match the upscale atmosphere or prices. I hope this was just an off night, but I'd also encourage the restaurant to think carefully about how private celebrations affect the experience of other diners even if it's a birthday of their regular customer they appreciate. read more

Excellent Experience. This was my second time dining here. The first time was at lunch in a large group (over 10+). Today was with family. Antonio was our server. He was attentive and well informed with the menu. Even the bus / expediters, Justin and Dominic were great. We started with bread, shared the arugula salad which was simple and flavorful. Two of us had cocktails, I had a hugo spritz and my cousin ordered the old fashioned. Each of us ordered a different dish including pasta, the branzino, which my boyfriend said it was the best he's ever had, and my cousin ordered the 32 oz tomahawk. Tuna tartar had a slight fishy smell and the mediterranean salad had some sort of grit/dirt/sand and wasn't edible, but the restaurant was gracious and took it off of our bill. Really disappointed because I wanted to love this place the ambiance is so cute and the food wasn't bad. We came here for a birthday and called in advance to notify them we were bringing a cake. They completely forgot the cake and made us wait an extra 20 minutes to bring it out, after we had already waited 20 minutes for their complementary birthday dessert. They didn't give us back the extra candles back until we asked. Our waiter didn't check in on us or give us jugs to refill our own water. They didn't offer anyone who ordered pasta the parmesan. Located on the ground floor north west corner of UTC, Lucrezia is a modern Italian gem. I was able to make a reservation for a group of 4 over the phone quite easily just two days before our planned dinner. I recommend entering the parking structure from the Gilman entrance then walking on the ground level street side to find the entrance. There is convenient valet parking right in front of the restaurant as well. Service is elevated with certain elements reaching fine dining levels. I was impressed by our whole team - waters were refilled promptly without needing to ask, the table was cleared promptly but not before we were finished with our food, the menu was broken down efficiently with good recommendations, and the food came out hot and on schedule. The team graciously helped us take photos to commemorate the special occasion we were celebrating and boxed our leftovers without needing to ask. For food we ordered: - Aragosta Pizza ($40) - decadent lobster pizza - lobster pieces a bit small but delicious with luxurious flavor - Tagliatelle Fatto in Casa ($33) - rich red meat sauce cooked for 6 hours - a great comfort food Linguine Vongole ($36) - white wine pasta sauce with clams - smack your lips delicious Al Tartufo Pizza ($35) - mushroom pizza - bursting with umami flavor without overpowering the dish Calamari Fritti ($25) - A great appetizer, crispy fried seafood, juicy on the inside Bread Service ($5) - fresh bread served with warm butter and perfect for soaking up the linguine sauce. This was my first time at Lucrezia. As I walked into the restaurant I felt the exciting vibe as the filled restaurant on a Saturday night ran through from the front entry bar, outside seating, and large indoor seating area. Unfortunately this is was the best part of the night. Waiters were so busy items were forgotten for our orders. We asked for lemon slices for our water - had to ask multiple time for that. We ordered the Veal Milanese. The thinness was uneven and primarily over cooked. It was requested to be split for us. That was not done and the spicy sauce that came with it was supposed to be not spicy. We had to have someone bring that when we were already halfway through our dinner. We also had to hunt down sharp knives to cut our dinner. The live music and the acoustics in the room make it hard to carry on a conversation. Our table had gum stuck under it. Not totally their fault but yuck. We appreciated the cheese and olives that are placed on the table at the beginning of the dining experience. One person at our table had the Chopped Salad and said it reminded her of the La Scala salad from Los Angeles. The mushroom risotto was very rich and creamy. There was a pasta dish on the table. It looked like it was enjoyed as well We were constantly being told the dishes are for sharing but our table did not want a family sharing dinner. Everyone's tastes were too different. Came here for a dinner with work colleagues and really wanted to do family style. The server made some good recommendations on what would work best for sharing and even had the kitchen cut out the chicken entree so that there were equal pieces for everyone! Half Jidori Chicken (10/10) was really lovely! Very big pieces but it was still so soft and flavorful! Calamari (10/10) was fresh and crispy and went really well with that red sauce they had on the side. It wasn't even as greasy or oily even though it was fried. Arugula salad (8/10) was simple and a good source of veggies. I asked for dressing on the side and it was a good call so we could add our own. I actually ended up loving that arugula salad with the sauce from the calamari! What a magical combination! Only reason I knocked those importance is because it was just plain arugula with a dressing so there was not much going on. Calabrese Pizza (10/10) It was spicy salami, mozarella, pomodoro. Very simple but really really nice! Crust was the perfect thickness and cooked really well as well. I would honestly have gone for that second or even thirso slice if others hadn't finished it already, hahaha. Linguine Volgole (9/10) This was a garlicky clam pasta. Not too strong on the garlic flavor and the pasta was cooked well. It was not too creamy of a sauce which was perfect. Clams also went really well with everything there. People on the table got cocktails, some wine and beer as well and looks like they were enjoyable. The food was really overpriced for what it was. It took a very long time for our food to come out, and they messed up our orders. We specifically ordered a dish with no cheese due to an allergy and by the time the food was delivered, it was the one that had the most cheese on the plate. They gave us some champagne, but the glasses were absolutely disgusting. There were lip marks all over the rim of the glasses (2 out of the 4 glasses) and also fingerprints on the sides. Lucrezia should do better at checking their dishes before serving. When we sat down, right away we informed our server that we would like to have 3 separate checks. She agreed, and even confirmed which parties belonged to what check. When our ONE check arrived, and we asked to separate it, she had to call over her manager and he told us "If you wanted this done, you should have asked to do it in the beginning". This visit was really disappointing because the restaurant looked so cute and welcoming inside, but for the price point and quality of service and food, I'm not sure it was worth it. read more

Came for dinner on a weeknight to celebrate a friend's birthday. Easy reservations through OpenTable and the restaurant is on the first floor below Din Tai Fung next to Javier's near the valet parking. If you don't want to valet (we didn't), parking at UTC is 2 hours free with validation and then $3/hr. The staff were friendly and inviting, our server started out strong but then was absent quite a bit because he was handling a big party in the corner. The staff were helpful though with refilling water, clearing plates and more, appreciated their top notch service. We ordered two appetizers, bread service (this was $5 and not on the menu), and pastas to share. Cute indoor outdoor seating and there was a bar and grand piano inside. Food wise - Overall the mushroom risotto was the best dish. It was flavorful and delicious. The other pastas were nothing special and quite frankly just warm versus being hot and fresh from kitchen. It also took a while from apps to getting our entrees and we looked around for our server as well to see if he took the kitchen to get those going. They did provide a nice birthday dessert with a candle and writing on the plate. Dishes were on the pricier side, lots of others celebrating birthdays here. read more

We were seated in the back of the restaurant with a young child. Service was deficient. Waited for 15 minutes with no water or any drinks. No acknowledgment by the server. The server did attend to the tables sitting ahead of us but he never bother to come over to pour water. The waitress realized that they were not paying enough attention to us, with a young child. Waited a long time for drinks and foods. The manager should walk to the back of the restaurant and check on the servers. The pizza was good but the Mediterranean salad dressing was way too salty. The gluten free pasta was watery and had to be replaced. Food was overall subpar. Ambiance was good but due to the noise level the musician on the piano couldn't be heard for us in the back as the loud noises drowned out the sound. The waitress was probably over worked with too many tables and couldn't get the other server to step up. read more

He was kind, patient (first time here), and personable exactly the kind of energy that makes a birthday dinner feel special. From the start, he made sure everything was perfect, never made us feel rushed, and offered thoughtful suggestions (the steak and risotto were excellent, and the tiramisu was a highlight I'd recommend to anyone). The food was fresh and flavorful, the drinks were great, and the cozy yet lively ambiance created the perfect setting for a celebration. I recommend outdoor seating, it's beautiful. Marco's service made our birthday dinner absolutely exceptional. When it came time for the cake, he went above and beyond leading the song with so much enthusiasm and making the night unforgettable, Creed joined and was wonderful as well, adding to the warmth and fun of the evening. Lucrezia has such a beautiful, intimate atmosphere with warm lighting and a stylish bar that immediately sets the tone for a great night out. We ordered the burrata, pizza, baked pasta, cocktails, and dessert, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. The burrata and pizza were standouts, and the dessert with gelato and berries was the perfect sweet finish. The service was attentive and friendly without feeling rushed, which made the whole dinner feel relaxed and enjoyable. Definitely a great spot for date night or a cozy dinner with friends.
