This beautiful restaurant in the heart of La Jolla was amazing. From the wait staff to the lovely ladies who greet you when you come into the restaurant. The restaurant has nice food options. They had a beautiful set menu for Mothers Day. 1st course was a tiramisu coffee cake 2nd course was smoked salmon & popup bagels tower and lemon bucatini with the 3rd course pistachio & raspberry soft serve swirl. Everything was amazing. We also enjoyed the pornstar martini. Everything was amazing. The restrooms were so nice with custom candles & hand soap. I would definitely go back.

Came here as it is a part of Chase Sapphire's OpenTable promotion. We came on a fairly uneventful weekday and, even with a reservation, waited about 15 minutes (we did arrive about 5 minutes early) despite there seemingly to be plenty of unoccupied tables at the time. The menu is short but sweet, and so the assumption is simply that the flavors presented are exceptional/balanced. This is where I made a poor assumption. Focaccia - not your traditional presentation, it's actually a rather large roll. The bread is lightly sweet but has a crisp exterior and soft interior, though airier than you'd expect with a traditional focaccia. The form factor overall was cute but one could argue....unwieldy? It required tearing and slicing while squishing the bread, vs just a standard portion/slab. "Salsa Verde" is actually closer to a tabbouleh with oil than anything I'd remotely call a salsa. Funghi - flavor is interesting at first, but the base flavor of mushroom is dominant. The sauce is a nice add but it doesn't complement the dish enough, and tastes like an afterthought to (weakly) balance the punchy mushroom flavor. Also, unclear if the dish had been sitting on a cold pass for too long, but it was served at room temp (not warm/hot). Agnolotti - lemon sauce is quite salty but thin. Crab is good and fresh tasting inside, but the thickness of the agnolotti is just a hair too thick; just a millimeter or two thinner and the balance and bite would've been there. Dusk lasagna - Dominant duck flavor without coming off as gamey or dry. Sauce served as a good complement and accent to the dish. Ratio of duck to pasta is high (a lot of duck to just a bit of pasta), which is great for value and still acceptable in terms of flavors. As you dive more into the dish, the composition is revealed and it feels a bit underwhelming: duck rolled in a lasagna noodle with sauce on and around the roll, topped with duck prosciutto and a cheese foam. As you continue on, you realize that you're really missing out on the cheese content of the dish. While adding to the body of the dish, it would've toned down the sauce acidity and the saltiness of the duck. Limoncello tiramisu - a pattern of ladyfingers and mascarpone that is topped/bottomed with a lemon curd. A bit disappointing; could've soaked in limoncello a bit more or infused some zest into the mascarpone. Overall, dishes were trying very hard to be unique but lacked cohesiveness in all areas.

We had dinner reservations for a birthday dinner and it turned out to be amazing. The cutest interior design and kind staff. Even though service took quite a bit of time for a Friday night, they came by frequently to apologize. We had: -prawns (solid, but not out of ordinary, can skip this appetizer) -beef carpaccio (incredible, must order) -little gem salad (loved this salad) -spicy rigatoni (so good, highly recommend) -branzino (perfectly cooked) -lemon tiramisu (I'm still dreaming about this and would come back just for this) Cocktails were delicious and the food was great. Would recommend!

Ambiance gets 10/10. I loved the decor inside, & the outdoor patio was charming. I came for dinner & sat inside. Next time, I would love to have lunch & enjoy the outdoor seating. Service was AMAZING. Our server gave us great recommendations & was really selling the menu. It made me wish we came with a big group so we could order everything & try each dish. Even though it was a very busy night with a party of 20 sitting behind us, she was patient & attentive. I felt taken care of & can't wait to return. Local Crudo: What a refreshing dish with the perfect amount of citrus. It was a little smaller than I expected, but quality was definitely served. Wagyu Carpaccio: This was heavily seasoned & I didn't taste much of the wagyu. It wasn't bad, but definitely way too much aioli sauce on it (I think it was aioli). It was a very busy night so I'm assuming that maybe they were rushing & just threw everything on top. I've seen pictures where they lightly topped everything so I'm guessing next time it'll be better. Short-rib Pappardelle: This was perfect, the noodles tasted freshly made & meat was tender. A lot of places make this dish very heavy, but not here. It was my favorite of the night. Dessert: My sister & I tried one of their new dessert items which was the white chocolate tiramisu ice cream. AMAZING. It was sweet, but not overwhelming sweet. I loved the crunchy malted crunchies they added on top. I would definitely order this again. Overall, I had a great time. Everything was really good, came out in a timely manner, & servers were top notch. Portions were a tad bit smaller than expected, but quality compensates. Parking can be tricky during dinner rush even on a week day, but they have plenty of paid parking lots. Can't wait to return & try other dishes I was eyeing.

I've been to Marisi just once for brunch and it was good. Their menu was small so not too many options to choose from but my friends said their dinner menu is better so I might come back to try that. Their spicy rigatoni was really dry and not spicy at all but that caesar salad and cinnamon roll were delicious.

The best dining experience for breakfast to dinner, and one you'll want to come back to again and again. The Marisi team takes great care of you, from the front staff to the thoughtful preparation of each course, and touch of architectural details on the restaurant walls. If you haven't dined at Marisi, do yourself a favor and experience it for all its beauty. I recommend the following: For a pick-me-up, try the Americano. Appetizers: Focaccia Tomato Carpaccio Salad: Little Gem Main Dish: Spicy Rigatoni Grilled Prawns Dessert: Pistachio & Raspberry Soft Serve

Came here for brunch with a reservation and we got seated shortly after checking in. Parking was also surprisingly pretty easy. What we ordered: Cinnamon roll - probably one of the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had. They only serve this during brunch so make sure to go for brunch if you want to try it. Focaccia - super soft and super good. We really enjoyed this. Carbonara bucatini - this had good flavor. I wish it had more meat though. Eggs Napolitana - this is a good option if you enjoy tomatoes. My hubby enjoyed this. Pistachio and raspberry soft serve - this was just ok. I wouldn't get it again as I'm not that big of a fan of the flavor. We came here for our anniversary and they gave us a cute little card, and the dessert was complimentary, which was great. I would definitely like to come back again to try the dinner menu. I believe Alysha was our server and she was fantastic!

This place is definitely a splurge spot, definitely on the pricier side so keep that in mind! We tried the local crudo, which was delicious & citrusy. For pasta, we got the seafood bucatini & short rib papparadelle, both were flavorful & pasta was al dente. For drinks, I got the porn star martini, loved the concept. They told me to take a sip of the drink then a sip of champagne & then some passion fruit, this concept made it such a fun drink! Overall, a nice fancy spot. Keep in mind, it's only street parking, so parking can be a bit tough unless you pay at one of the nearby lots!

Great service - but the pastas fell flat The venue was great. Service was great. The servers were friendly and fast. The bone marrow appetizer was huge and delicious. Super impressive presentation for sure. We also got the whole roasted chicken which was really good. The reason for the 3 stars was the pasta. Supposed to be hand made and fresh- what we got was over cooked and gummy. Almost as if - across all 4 pasta plates that we ordered - they had been sitting under heat lamps for a long time before coming to us. The eggs in the carbonara were almost soft scrambled.

Ambiance, location, and dog friendliness is great 5 stars. Food is mediocre and leaves much to be desired 2 stars. Overall 3 stars Artichoke appetizer was burnt to crisp... so charred Spicy rigatoni was just ok but portions are so small and rly nothing was spectacular for the price. Everything is just cheese or black pepper or tomatoes as garnish. We overheard other neighboring tables being disgruntled with the food as well. Sorry there wont be a next time here. Carbonara authentic but not a fan of. Lots of pepper.

Obsessed!! We came here for Mother's Day brunch and had a wonderful experience. First off, the decor throughout the entire restaurant, bar, and kitchen was incredible. We sat under their coveted outdoor area but I would love to come back and sit at the bar with live music. For drinks, I loved the Porn Star martini as well as the Espresso Martini. The food menu was a prix fixe, and we loved all of it!! The tiramisu coffee cake was out of the world. The bagel tower with lox was the cutest bagel presentation I've ever seen. And lastly, the lemon bucatini was lovely. I can't wait to come back here and try more items. There was no valet option, so account for time to park.

Absolute perfection! We had the bone marrow, the beets, the Crudo, the bread, and the pesto pasta, all were a 10 out of 10 Dakota was our server and he is the best, highly recommend you ask for him!!

My wife and I had a pretty disappointing experience tonight celebrating our wedding anniversary. Let me first start by saying the waiter had exceptional customer service. He was extremely friendly. The disappointment was with the food. We came in knowing exactly what we were going to order. The Little Gem, Carbonara Bucatini and King Crab Agnolotti. The Little Gem was great. We were told the Carbonara was not available because the meat grinder was not working. This was the first disappointment. The dish was replaced with a Cacio e pepe which was just OK. We understand that things happen so we didn't make a big deal about it. Then we were told the King Crab Agnolotti "exploded" so the kitchen wasn't able to make it. Not really sure what that means but it sounds like the chef's problem. It was replaced by another dish which again was just OK. The waiter tried to make it right with a complimentary dessert which we didn't care much for but we figured we would just take advantage of since it was complimentary. We ended up waiting nearly 30 minutes for the tiramisu. Kind of ridiculous to wait this long when all the toppings were served on the side and we have to build it ourselves. Finally got the bill and was hoping for some kind of discount, or at the very least a cheaper price than what we originally ordered. We were disappointed to see we still paid full price for everything even though we were served completely different dishes. We were tired and really just wanted to go home so we didn't bring this up to the waiter. We had high hopes for this restaurant and left disappointed.

The place was lively, but luck was on our side: one perfect booth remained for the four of us sweet seekers. We settled in and immediately starting gabbing (versus checking out the menu). George came over to take our order. Without even glancing at the dessert menu (a bold move, I'll admit), I asked for one of each dessert to share--paired, of course, with a couple glasses of Scarpetta Rosé bubbles (okay so I glanced at te wine menu). Priorities . What arrived was equal parts surprise and delight. First, a charming little glass jar filled with lightly whipped crème fraîche and topped with salted caramel--simple, elegant, and absolutely delicious. And then... the "hamburger." Cue the table going completely silent. Naturally, we had questions. Our server walked us through this masterpiece from the bottom up: a golden caramel cake "bun," topped with a chocolate-coated ice cream "patty," a delicate mango gelée "cheese," and even "pickles" made from matcha cake. Finished with a second warm cake layer and a touch of garnish we were too excited to fully catch--because at that point, we were already diving in. The contrast of warm cake, cool ice cream, and rich chocolate was nothing short of fantastic. Playful, unexpected, and genuinely delicious--exactly the kind of dessert experience you hope to stumble upon. Thank you, The Whaling Bar, for the sweet surprises. We'll absolutely be back--next time for martinis, and I've already been told the duck meatballs are not to be missed.

I agree with some of the other commenters when they say that the revolving fireplace needs some love. It has the look and feel of needing to be updated. Also, for it to be a "speakeasy" vibe, you could hear the loudness of the bar through the walls. It just kind of ruins the facade a little bit. Regardless, we enjoyed the novelty of being slowly admitted to the speakeasy on the opposite side. We were given seats and upon first glance it was a dark lit space with an old fashioned aesthetic. I was surprised to see how casual everyone was dressed- I assumed there was a dress code, but I guess flip flops made the cut ‍. It took a few minutes for our server to attend to us, and when he did you could tell he was slammed. We just didn't get the table side manner one was hoping for an establishment like this. Peeking at their drink menu, I found myself disappointed that much of their options had a lot of sweet or fruit juice ingredients. So, I went for their old fashioned. For the price, it was just okay. Another disappointing moment. In all, it wasn't terrible, but it just isn't worth the hype. Overpriced and mediocre drinks and a seemingly overworked staff didn't make for a memorable experience and ended up not being for us. Glad to have tried it...but look elsewhere if you've actually been to a speakeasy. This just doesn't live up to what it's trying to sell you.

Trimmings are used from the other steak entrees and the jus was to die for. We also really enjoyed the cabbage with fried garlic chips and homemade chili crisp sauce. Do not forget to get their sourdough which was deliciously crispy on the outside with a brown butter wash. It was quite possibly the best sourdough we have had and well worth the extra stomach space. The frozen dirty martini was a bit overdiluted for our taste so we opted for a classic martini up, which was great. Their cocktail menu is fun and worth trying one or two. We also had some bad luck and the fresh Cacio e Pepe we ordered was inedibly salty. Sole was polite in letting us know how it is prepared and that the pecorino could be a bit salty, unfortunately we have had many variations in the past and were familiar. They may have generously over salted the water it was boiled in, or the fresh pasta itself was over salted. We did not want it comped, we just couldn't take more than a bite nor did we want to take it home. Needless to say they worked to have it removed anyway. We would've paid for it no problem. The service and food was fantastic otherwise. It was really thoughtful of her/them to remove it anyway. The drinks came without delay and even their manager would stop by to help out. A great team, a great experience. Would definitely come again.

I'd heard about Bernini's so many times over the years, and I'm so glad I finally went. The service…read morewas amazing from start to finish. I'm trying to get better about catching names, but the whole team made us feel taken care of. I tend to grade my Italian spots by their focaccia, and theirs was perfectly soft. Our waiter came over and welcomed us and set down a bottle of cold water and asked if we wanted anything else to drink. The evening was underway without a hitch. We asked a few questions and then we reviewed the menu. When Robert came back with the glass of wine, we were ready to order and the process was easy. We shared the fried calamari which had two shrimp and several different kinds of vegetables. It was served with two kinds of sauces. It was very good. My husband ordered the Salmon a la Griglia and he really enjoyed it with the risotto. I had the Seafood Cioppino. It had a great deal of seafood including really big mussels, shrimp and salmon. The broth was great too. The service was great and the meal was terrific. It has a nice variety on the menu. It seems to be a popular neighborhood place. we will be back to try some of the other treasures.
