This restaurant is located on the cliffs resort in Shell Beach. The views are absolutely spectacular, your best bet is to go to the bar side and eat the bar menu and watch the sunset. The restaurant side is deserted and there is a reason for that. service is a abysmal. My wife ordered a mojito, it came with absolutely no carbonation, we mentioned that to the waiter who decided to instead speak to the bartender who insisted that carbonation was delivered. he did not offer to give us a new drink. Additionally, they erected a tent between us and the sunset, I realize there's a wedding the next day but this eliminated the sunset view. In any case, there's a reason the restaurant is deserted, eat on the bar side and you'll be fine, avoid the restaurant As an update, I ordered my New York steak medium rare, it came medium well. I made reservations for 8 for Sunday brunch. We showed up and waited for about 15 mins as a table was prepared. We were seated and waited 25 mins without any waitstaff coming by. My group was very hungry and a friend went to ask the host if we could see a menu. The host said there had been a mix up and no one was assigned our table. She was very apologetic. The buffet was fairly expensive ($36) but decent--I enjoyed the omelette, smoked salmon, fruit and bottomless mimosas. We went for our first year anniversary and made our reservations on Open Table. We tried to confirm for 2 days. No one answers the phone. Went to the Marisol with my friend for dinner because they gave us a dinner voucher for staying at the Cliffs hotel. The food was tasty but our server was neglectful!! He never asked if we wanted refills or more drinks, after we finished our food it took him an hour to bring our bill. We have dined at the Marisol once before and enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately, this last Saturday night was quite different. Only 2 of our party of 5 enjoyed their meals, the other 3 expressed disappointment with the preparation and/or flavor of their dishes. There should be no excuse for poor food when presented with a dinner tab just under $400 for 5 guests. After eating, we then understood why the restaurant was less than 1/2 full at 7pm on a Saturday evening. We will not be returning. read more

We stayed at a hotel just down the walkway from this restaurant so we decided to check this place out since it was so close and a great little walk. We arrived around 6:45pm and there was a line to get a table. It took about 15 mins to get to the front, apparently there was only one hostess seating at the time. She worked her tail off and was very friendly getting us a table and apologized to everyone for the wait. She was a sweet heart. The food was delicious but the service (at least our server) wasn't up to par for what I would expect for that restaurant. I think she only came by two or three times (once to take our order which took 10 minutes for her to even acknowledge us, second to drop off the food and the third time we had to stop her and ask her for the bill). Again the food was awesome and we will definitely go back because of the food alone. Food and hostess would get 5 stars, but our actual server/service at our table I would only give about 3 stars... highly recommend the wedge salad and the tacos!! Let me start by saying how beautiful this restaurant is. The whole ambience of this place is elegant and cozy. We came in for a late dinner and got a table by the window and the view was amazing. For dinner, we had the filet mignon and the pork chop which were both absolutely delicious. Their truffle fries were nothing short of mouth watering and the clam chowder, just as great. Had the "restaurant month" special. Started out with the risotto, it was really creamy and well cooked. For the entree, I had the duck breast. While it was overcooked (well done), it was still juicy and tender so it was still pretty good. For desert, had the chocolate cake. Huge portion and very decadent. What happened to this place? The food used to be good and there used to be options on the menu to choose from. A burger for $20, really? It should be mind blowing at that price, It's not. And the chicken wings, I think half of my order must have flown away. What happened to the blackened fish tacos, it used to be one of the best things on the menu. And lets talk about the price of drinks, $16 for a glass of Talley Pinot Noir, insane. Haven't been here for years and am hoping it will be years more. The setting is lovely, overlooking the sea, and we had a table outside. Our server was attentive and wore a mask. Everything was clean. A cocktail featured on the menu disappointingly wasn't available which made us wonder why, since the menus were paper, it wasn't kept updated. While the halibut was delicious, the "herb beans" listed on the menu turned out to be a grey plop of soft butter beans. Another person in our party ordered the ahi tacos and they were sad indeed. Three very small tacos presented in a metal tray that looked like something used in an industrial kitchen. No garnishes whatsoever - no tomato, lettuce - nothing but the three on a metal tray. Don't bother to order the peach raspberry "whipped" cheesecake unless you like rubber. It looked very pretty, however the layers all fell apart and luckily we like gummy bears because that's how each layer tasted. Don't know what was considered "whipped" unless it was the cream on the side, which was delicious. Obviously, we won't return. read more

You have to ask for bread at least 3 times before your server gets annoyed enough to bring you the complimentary bread that everyone else gets except your table. I don't usually write reviews because I also work in a local upscale restaurant and at times people can be over dramatic with their comments. Although my experience this last Sunday was quite a let down. It was my girlfriend's birthday Brunch, a party of 12. She made the reservation a week early. All of us were locals who were born and raised in Morro Bay, SLO, ect so we all drove 20 mins or more to be there for her. When we arrived the hosts had two separate round tables set for us and refused let us put them together. There was no fire hazard nor blocking of handicap accessibility. After talking to them a little more they let us pull them about 2 feet apart, also very silly on their part. Eventually a manager came out and told us we were ok to pull them together which we did ourselves. After that it took about 10 mins for water, 15 mins before we even saw a server and we didn't get menus until I went up to the hosts to gather them myself. All three of them seemed pretty confused... I understand the 50$ brunch special but to assume all 12 of us were buying that package is rude. Endless Wycliffe(headache in a bottle) and old food that wasn't very good for 50$ is a rip off. On top of that no split checks lol we laughed the entire brunch about how this place was just packed with silly rules. Anyhow, we rarely saw our server which was the most upsetting part, so I walked to the bar and ordered a cocktail and some tacos there. Eventually everyone else who ordered off the menu got their order in, by then I was already eating my lunch. Their food took nearly 45 mins!!! If everyone's doing the buffet then why did their food take so long?! Not to mention the restaurant seriously wasn't busy at all! I've never seen the inside, bar and patio so empty before. When everyone was nearly finished, our server said she was going on break. Nice to see a place who's servers actually get to take a break but as a server I would never take one just minutes before closing our big top out. Also no happy birthday anything to my girlfriend which isn't a big deal but for a place that pricey and rich I'd think they could have done a little something. I won't ever be returning to this restaurant and advising my local friends and family to avoid it as well. Lido, Ventana, or just about anywhere else will not disappoint like the Cliffs did. read more

It seems there are plenty of staff wandering around, but that's the problem - they're just wandering around, avoiding eye contact. You literally have to wave someone down, then of course you are not their table but they will send someone over. As I said, too bad because it could be so wonderful. We are locals and would love to have this as "our" spot but we end up going somewhere else. Management really needs to gain control here or they won't be able to recover from such a poor reputation. The real down side was David the host. He pretty much epitomized the concept of a pretentious, officious ass. My wife and I are elderly and have issues with stairs. We were seated where the only path to the buffet was either managing stairs, or a circuitous route up a ramp. When we asked for a more convenient table David went into an extensive dialog about how he would have to rearrange the seating that had been established well in advance, The implication was "I'm way too important and involved to pay attention to your needs". I find it difficult to imagine David having a future in the hospitality industry with this attitude. Because the competition for Sunday brunches is so intense on the central coast it is unlikely I would return, not because of the quality of food, or the service, but simply because of the attitude of the host. read more
