The vibes at OLD SLO at the Cape are great. Their food is pretty tasty. My wife loves their sweet potato fries. Service is always friendly. They have a big screen projector outside and locals love to come and watch the game, have a beer and play some corn hole. I think it might have changed ownership, as the last time I was here a couple years ago it was immaculately clean, top tier service and delicious food. So since we originally were coming here, things have changed. I know before they had other things on the menu, but when this business sold, some of those things were not on the menu anymore. But some of the same items were actually different. One of the things that I don't like is that I couldn't swap the fries out for coleslaw, even if I paid extra. I also couldn't swap out the fries for mac & cheese, even if I paid extra. I just don't eat fries. So I had to buy multiple things which is OK. But then when I tried the fries, they were really bad. I feel like the oil wasn't changed quite often. I kind of felt like the fish was in the same place really super greasy and old oil. My boyfriend ordered a lobster roll and he remembers getting a small container of butter to dip it in. That's no longer. So the price just keeps going up and up on these lobster rolls. I think they are now over 25 each? So the mac & cheese was kind of just a bunch of butter noodles with a clump of cheese in the middle. The cheese wasn't around the pasta. It was just a dried up clump in the middle. I don't know what kind of cheese it was, but it was really hard to spread around the noodles. It just stayed in the clump. So I pulled the clump out and ate most of the noodles. I didn't get a picture of the macaroni and cheese because it came out way after our other food came out. We make a big effort to go here because we have to get in our car from the hotel to drive here. Pack up the dog.. Instead of walking to many of the other restaurants along the way. If we had Uber it, it would probably be way too expensive. So I don't think we're going to make the effort to come here anymore. read more

We stopped by on a Sunday evening and were very happy we did! They have a variety of seating area s on the patio with fire pits and heaters, some j door seating and a huge kids play area, which we found as we were leaving but will definitely be back next time we're in town with kids. The staff were super friendly and helped turn on heaters plus gave great food recommendations. They have a variety of beer and wine options to choose from. I loved the lobster roll and clam chowder- both delicious. My husband enjoyed his burger. We also split dessert with friends and both the brownie and strawberry shortcake were amazing!! We'll definitely be back next time we're in town. We were there near closing so it was pretty empty but I imagine this is a place you can hangout all day when the sun is out! read more

This place is a solid 5 stars! The Yelp score is not reflective of the new ownership (the Old SLO folks). We had claw meat lobster rolls and they were the real deal. Cold with mayo or warm with drawn butter and grilled lemon. Authentic lobster roll bread. Fries were perfection. Cute patio, some indoor seating (wooden banquette benches and a few tables) and two parking lots. You can also take a nice stroll down a few blocks to the oceanfront. We were excited to see this place taken over by Old Slo BBQ as that is one spot we like to go to in town. Hadn't been here before the change of ownership, so can't comment on that part. The layout is great, so much outdoor space and the giant sandbox with the windmill is great for kids. Our daughter was having a blast. The patio was nice too since we could sit with our dog. Service wasn't great, but it worked. We ordered the Surf n Turf wrap to share and that was a good decision since it was quite large. I was skeptical about it working well, but it was a nice balance of flavors. Probably a bit too saucy, but still good even though it got a bit messy. Fries were good, nice and crispy but fluffy inside. Pretty neat place, looking forward to coming back again. read more

I'm very confused as to what is going on with this place. I went once about a year ago with my in-laws when it was owned by the previous owner. There were not many people there but our food took over an hour, when it did arrive it was good. The staff refunded our entire order because it took so long. I came back last weekend (new owners), there weren't many people there for Saturday but it still took about 40 minutes for two dishes. There were other families who appeared to be waiting a similar amount of time. When the food did arrive, mine was partially cooked and not edible. The staff apologized and refunded our order, but as any parents knows - waiting over 40 mins for food with a toddler will really ruin your day. Even a place with a mediocre play area. The bathroom needed attention (too gross to describe), there was no ice in the machine, server did not bring napkins or silverware and there were none to be found anywhere. We're obviously not coming back again but seriously what is going on here? It's not just me after looking at other reviews. I did notice that some customers who arrived got their food immediately. Mostly ones who were also ordering beers. This is 100% a management and owner problem, staff can't work without resources. If you're visiting (especially with kids) I recommend takeout from Zorro's or Shell Beach Brewhouse and take it to the picnic tables at Dinosaur Caves park. read more

Parents - this is the place for squirmy littles. There is a wonderful sandbox / toy area, putting green, and corn hole. Sandbox areas is fully gated (see image). I don't have to worry about a kid running into the parking lot! Food is great too. If you're not a fan of seafood, don't worry! They also have what seems like the full menu from Old SLO BBQ. Best yet? Kids eat free Monday - Thursday! And appetizers are $4 2-5pm. A win, win! We tried the ahi nachos (raw fish...poke style!), hamburger sliders, chicken quesadilla, and brownie sundae. The chef on shift (11/24) was very personable and friendly. We felt very welcome and well taken care of! When the clock hit 5pm, patio lights lit up the place. It felt magical for the kids. Further, the fries were horrific. Our servings both had fries that came from an old and cold batch mixed in with some fries that were more recently cooked but had still been sitting around for a while. We considered sending the meals back but decided it wasn't worth the hassle. We were not that impressed by the ambiance either. The outdoor tables are street side and it is not an appealing area. MEAT ONLY - Pork Ribs were extremely over salted my husband couldn't even tolerate them and we ended up throwing them away. Clam chowder was also extremely over salted and again my husband threw away. It was a big disappointment especially since we spent over $70 on our meal. The Mac n cheese was decent but a bit overcooked and not flavorful at all. Luckily it was my 11 month old's meal so she didn't mind. I got the surf n turn which was decent but also a tad too salty, but more tolerable than the ribs and chowder. The onion rings were okay, but were a bit soggy and bland. I don't usually post reviews but I was very bummed about our experience with their food. Will not be purchasing from this restaurant again. Went with my family for lunch today. Came right as they say they open online and was told they aren't open until 11:30. We sat down at one of the open seatings to wait for them to open. There was food on the ground, dirty dishes sitting in bins. It looked as it hadn't been cleaned from the night before. Once it was open, we ordered our meals. Though the sign says kids eat free they tried to charge us for the kids meals. When we corrected them, they did adjust it to be correct. Menu online is different than inside and the price is not the same as well. Food was good. I got the ahi nachos and fried fish. The nachos were SPICY and they gave a lot of the ahi. The fried fish was less impressive but still good. I really wish the beer wall would come back because that used to be an amazing feature my husband and I loved about that place.
