A friend discovered this place on yelp. What a great find. Came here for breakfast. Had a 45 minute wait but they will call you on your phone when your table was ready so not an issue at all. Customer service was amazing. Host Eric was very nice and even remembered my name when I left. Very impressive given how busy they were. Our server was very good. Sante Fe something but not what I ordered. I'm sad, I was hungry for good Mexican food. I want Mexican food for the cumin, chili powder, onions and bell peppers, this was a Denny's/Ihop dish. The potatoes were unseasoned, egg whites were runny/undercooked. (I asked for over medium) & after waiting 5 - 10 minutes for the waitress, I ended up ordering a more food because this wasn't good. Came here for late lunch the other day and it was so good! Located in downtown shell beach; lots of street parking available. We sat outside and the waiter was so friendly and quickly came by with chips and salsa with refills too after we killed the first round haha I got the shrimp and crab Louie salad and it was so fresh. They were generous in the portion size and seafood too. We love coming to Zorro's. Sunday is Menudo Day here and it's the best on the Central Coast! The Champagne goes well with it as well! The service is exceptiona, but expect to wait for a seat. The food was great, the restaurant had good music and nice outdoor seating, but the service was slow. We got the Molcajete Bowl and it came out hot and was delicious. They didn't give us enough tortillas but we made due. The chips and salsa were tasty and fresh but the kitchen shut down at 830 so we couldn't get any refills. The server apologized, poor guy, he felt bad for us. Still a good finding experience and well worth it if you sit down by 7, I guess. read more

A must-stop, in Pismo Beach! Every time we return to Pismo Beach, we have to make a stop at Zorros for breakfast (they are open for lunch and dinner too)! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by Eric at the door -- and it's always nice when the first person you see makes you feel welcome. He walked us to our table, chatted with us, and even remembered us from 7 months ago, including where we sat! It seems like remembering guests is a theme in this town, and we love that hometown feeling. This visit, I made sure to take photos of the food, and we also left with a bag full of their homemade salsa and hot sauce. I only wish they sold these at grocery stores back home in Los Angeles because we would definitely buy them! Thankfully they ship!!! Melissa was our server and was wonderful -- friendly, attentive, and very accommodating with my husband's dairy allergy. My husband ordered the vegetarian burrito, and wow... it was packed with fresh green veggies you could literally see through the tortilla - my see photos! I asked Melissa for a recommendation between the shredded chicken burrito and the carne asada burrito, and she suggested the carne asada. I took her advice and ordered it as a wet burrito with sour cream -- and it did not disappoint! We love the friendly service, the homemade flavors, and the welcoming atmosphere at Zorros. I've been to Zorro's Cafe and Cantina probably seven or eight times now, and every single visit has been consistently solid. The thing that originally got me hooked on this place was their clam chowder. An ex-girlfriend brought some back for me to try, and it ended up being one of the best clam chowders I've ever had. That alone made me want to come try the restaurant in person. Now, every time I visit, it's a must-order. Honestly, it's better than any other place in Pismo Beach that claims to have the best. Zorro's is the one that actually delivers. Beyond the chowder, it's a full Mexican restaurant with a wide menu. They bring out chips and salsa to start, and they also have their own house-made hot sauce on every table, which is a nice touch. The food across the board has been consistently good. This last visit, my girlfriend had the carnitas tacos, and I ordered the shrimp diablo plate. I've also had their fish and chips, enchiladas, tacos, and burritos on previous visits, and I haven't had a bad meal yet. They also have a solid drink selection, including Mexican beers, good cocktails, and especially strong Bloody Marys and micheladas. The service has always been reliable. Even when it's busy, the staff checks in often enough to keep drinks filled and make sure you have what you need, including more chips and salsa. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and parking is pretty easy since it's all street parking nearby. You're usually only a short walk away. If you're in Pismo Beach and like Mexican food, this place is definitely worth a stop. And seriously, don't skip the clam chowder. It's the standout. read more

We ordered takeout while staying in Avila Beach and were really disappointed. We ordered the shredded chicken burrito with refried beans, chicken enchiladas, shrimp tacos, plus onion rings and fries. The shredded chicken burrito was the biggest letdown. It had almost no flavor, lacked authenticity, and tasted like it was thrown together with no care or attention. The chicken enchiladas had far too much cheese inside, much of which wasn't even fully melted, and the dish was bland from start to finish. The rice on the side was undercooked and flavorless. The shrimp tacos were honestly embarrassing. They bore little resemblance to authentic Mexican food and were completely underwhelming. The onion rings and fries weren't good either, and the oil tasted old, leaving everything with a greasy aftertaste. The only positive part of our experience was the woman who took our phone order--she was friendly and pleasant. I genuinely don't understand how this restaurant has such high ratings. Our meal felt like a collection of hastily prepared, flavorless dishes with no pride or care put into them. Unfortunately, we won't be back. Very affordable prices and large portions combined with great service and ocean views make this the perfect place for a relaxing sunset dinner! My real crab and shrimp enchiladas were amazing and my friend loved her vegetarian enchiladas too! The salsa and chips are homemade and absolutely delicious. My review is mostly on the service as the food for me was just ok. We got the chilaquiles and breakfast with French toast. The chilaquiles were ok. It has so much going on many type of onion peppers and sauce had no flavor and the heaviness of everything just mashed into one thing. The beans were good but rice also had no flavor. I tried the salsa on the side but also had no flavor and heat. The bacon and egg breakfast with the French toast was good. We asked for crispy bacon and that's what we got. This place was such a gem to find! My boyfriend and I were in the area looking for good food and had our dog with us, so we were especially happy to find a spot that was pet-friendly. The space is cozy and lively. It was definitely busy, but the wait wasn't bad at all - about 15 minutes for outdoor patio seating when we arrived around 11:00 AM. They even offer dog-friendly menu items, which is such a cute and thoughtful idea. We ordered the clam chowder and the chile verde omelette. The chowder was honestly the star of the show--rich, creamy, and chunky, with generous pieces of seafood that made it extra satisfying. The chile verde omelette was also a solid choice, filled with tender pork and a savory chile verde sauce, paired with refried beans and potatoes (I was able to sub them in instead of the tortillas, which was nice). We also tried the zucchini muffin, which had great flavor, though it was a bit crumbly for my taste. Overall, this is a great spot for a Mexican-inspired brunch, especially if you're dining with your pup. Being just blocks away from the beach makes it even better. Approaching the restaurant, Zorro's attract lines, just like Splash Cafe in Pismo Beach. We waited about 20 minutes to get a table, but as we are ushered into our table, a lovely kid gave a white rose to my wife. It was mother's day, and Zorro's are presenting mothers who dined with them that day a rose. A good sign that we are going to have a great breakfast here at Zorro's. Inside, Zorro's small and quaint space has such character. We glanced at the menu but already mentioned that we'll have a cup of their clam chowder. I came to our table before our breakfast and tasted it. Wow, it is by far the best clam chowder we have tasted throughout our trip here in SLO. The savoriness and brininess of the chowder is Perfect. The creaminess is on point. The conglomeration of all the ingredients of Zorro's clam chowder is just perfect. It was so good than when my wife tasted it, she immediately asked our server that she will have a cup of her own as well. Anyways back to our breakfast, I asked our server what is here recommendation, and without hesitation, she recommended the Cuyama Chili Verde Omelet of which I obliged. The flavor of the chili verde sauce, the tenderness of the pork, all just so good. My wife's Chilaquiles was yummy as well. My son's burger patty was perfectly charred and tasted great. I ordered the chorizo and eggs breakfast, which came with side of Mexican rice and frijoles along with corn tortillas. My wife ordered the Greek omelet, but with jack cheese instead of feta. We are locals and will sometimes visit Zorro's for their comfort food and pretty side patio. On this visit we sat inside. Our greeting was mediocre, but our server was great and bussing and drink refills were attentive and very friendly. We did get a big "thank you!" with a smile on our way out. Food is solid comfort if not winning awards for presentation. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich, and with a choice of side I chose fresh fruit. When it came out with fries (which were perfectly cooked steakhouse fries), the server asked if I wanted to keep the fries while she brought the fruit. We enjoyed this happy accidental side-swap. Tri-tip on the grilled sourdough bread with cheese (kind of like a Tritip melt) was heavy, a little oily, but good quality tri-tip. We also ordered the chorizo and eggs scramble which came with beans and rice. Very good. Generous portion. Our awesome busser refilled our soda before we left and offered to put it in a to-go cup. It's a cute indoor space, colorful, not too loud and not too crowded with tables. The surf channel was playing on a TV, which was fun to watch. I'm sure we'll continue with our twice-yearly visits. Amazing breakfast burritos! All of the ingredients were perfectly cooked and seasoned. The burrito was so large I couldn't finish it, but I wish I could have as it was amazing. The receptionist at our hotel recommended this restaurant as a "safe for celiacs like herself" place so my little family decided to give it a try. Hands down some of the best Mexican food I have had in a very very long time. My husband agreed. He got the wet style burrito and for the first time in a long time, couldn't finish because it was so much food! It was close to the size of my forearm! I had the sweet corn tamale and a chicken enchilada. Both were "omg I have to close my eyes and go mmmmmm at first bite" good. I was taking small bites so I could savor every morsel. Our waitress was very good and told me exactly what was gluten free. She even made sure to say it wasn't a celiacs safe kitchen so cross contamination could happen, however they try their best to keep it from happening. She also shared that she had gluten sensitivity and has been good eating there. We were seated outside so our dogs could be with us. It was a nice patio with heaters and protected from the elements. I'm so sad we live 6 hours away because this would be my go to Mexican restaurant if we lived closer. We loved our meals and the service. Had a great breakfast here. Love that it's dog friendly and even have a dog menu. I tried their clam chowder and it blew me away. It was the best clam chowder I've ever had, even compared to living in Boston, trying multiple in San Francisco, Rhode Island style and Manhattan style. I tried the spinach enchilada, but the spinach wasn't cooked and was raw in the middle which I wasn't a huge fan of, though it came in a really nice sauce.
