I signed up with Mark after purchasing a new car and got significantly lower rates. I received a very friendly, helpful phone call from Mark, which I appreciated. Mark was recommended to me by a coworker who has been with him for a long time. I received a letter that had been kicked off of State Farm due to two incidents that I had "failed to divulge". I did divulge one of those incidents, and the other item was a traffic ticket but the reported time did not line up with any ticket that I was aware of. I reached out to Mark and they explained to me that this was an "underwriting decision" that they had no power to overturn. Ultimately the issue, according to the lady I spoke to on the phone from Mark's office, Sabrina, was that with two points on my record, I was not considered a "good driver" per California Law, and State Farm only insures "good drivers". I called the DMV, explained the situation to them, and they let me know that I only actually had one point and to go to their website and pay the fee to get my record print out. I called Mark's team and let them know what the DMV was reporting and sent over the copy of the record. I found on State Farm's website it states that "All operators of your vehicle must be 'good drivers' as defined by California law". I then found on the California Dept of Insurance website that "Good Drivers" were defined as "a person who has been licensed for at least three consecutive years and has no more than one point on his or her record". I sent along these details, with links to the websites where I found them stating that per their website and California law I should be considered a good driver and thus be eligible. I stated that if State Farm is not going off of California law and the record provided by the DMV, this should be explicitly stated. I also asked whether if I was able get the point for the traffic ticket removed, if I would become eligible again. They then stated that perhaps the record that I received, again directly from the DMV, was "only moving violations" and that one of the accidents was showing up as the second point on the "MVR" as run by State Farm. They did not touch on any of the other points that I had mentioned. I wrote back explaining that I received the record directly from the DMV and that the person I spoke to told me that I only had one point , and told me to send my record over to them. I reiterated that if they are using a separate definition of "good driver", then their website should not state that they are using California's definition. I requested that Mark reach back out to me with an explanation. Mark did follow up the following week with a more detailed explanation as to where this information was being seen by them, which I appreciated. I replied back to him stating my confusion as to what exactly I need to do to become eligible to be insured - from the fact that Sabrina said the reason I was unable to be insured was due to not being a "good driver" per California law. I wanted to know what exactly I need to do in order to meet this eligibility as clearly the definitions as state were NOT what were being used. I asked him if he could, quote "please clarify, in full, what is preventing me from being eligible, and what circumstances will allow me to become eligible". Additionally, I requested a quote for a plan for just my partner continuing through, with myself excluded. Mark replied with a reiteration that I had two points on my record, listed those two incidents, and that I am not considered a "good driver". That was it. He did not respond to any of my other points or questions and did not send me the requested quote. I replied mentioning that I am frustrated as both him and his team have repeatedly only answered or touched on one or two of my points per email, leading to further confusion and more back and forth between what should be a quite simple exchange. This is the main issue I had with Mark and his team - I understand that the decision to not insure me is not done by them, and that there are things out of their control in terms of company policy that they cannot change. I would have appreciated some clarity without me having to hunt down an answer and point out an inconsistency in what they have written on their website vs how they are actually treating their customers. They were replying with one or two sentence answers. I expected better of him and his team. They have now quoted us a premium, for JUST my partner and ONE car with me excluded, which is nearly $100 more per month than the premium that we started with for both me and my partner for both of our cars together. I understand that things may have changed and determination may have changed, but it seems that Mark may just be trying to get rid of us at this point. Safe to say I will not be going forward with this policy. If you value clear communication through a headache like this, I would also advise not starting a policy with Mark and his team. read more

Simply put, Mark Chapman and Carina Rodriguez define Customer Service. I moved my policy over to their office when a colleague of mine introduced me to Mark at the Saratoga Classic Car festival. Previously, my policy was being handled by people I had never met and only spoke to me over the phone. Call me old-fashioned, but I like to be able to put a face on the representative that is handing my insurance for my personal property. Not only has he and his incredible assistant Carina Rodriguez been more than accommodating to work with, but they REALLY helped work out the most ideal coverage for my newly purchased vehicle. I recently inherited a lot of money and a home and was confused about how to go about insuring my home and newly acquired wealth along with protecting my family trust. I met with Mark about my concerns. He spent well over an hour asking questions, assessing my risks, addressing my net worth, and helping me protect my family trust.
