One visit involved over-drilling a tooth, then filling it -- leading to a cracked tooth -- my first crown ever. When my other dentist retired, he told me that I have great teeth and if someone starts telling me I needed a lot of work (other than getting after me about the stain on my teeth from drinking too much tea :), that should be my clue to move on. I moved on... I said nothing to Dr. Markoff and asked what he thought of my teeth and...he said the same thing my first dentist said. "You've got great teeth. I don't expect I'll be seeing you for more than cleanings." That combined with his gentleness and professionalism sealed the deal. I have found my new dentist. I drove over and without any wait, I got fancy X-rays done of my mouth which he immediately reviewed with me. He then explained what he would do, how long it would take, and the special care guidelines he had for my mouth after the tooth was pulled (in a handy worksheet he gave me). He provided a script for pain control which I didn't need to fill. His staff was helpful and kind. Total time for the actual procedure was maybe 10 minutes, including local anesthesia. The reviews I read about Dr. Lubritz and his staff led me to make an appointment. Right away I found the office fun? and relaxed, and I found him to be kind and gentle and he and his staff have effectively saved me from surgery. I have had gum disease for years, and at the time I found Dr. Lubritz my only option was gum scraping, and deep cleaning that was expensive and hurt like the dickens, and many times it caused infection on top of the problems I was having. Dr. Lubritz has arrested the damage I myself was doing by teaching me the correct way to floss and use a toothbrush. Odd that at my age, I was using these everyday tools incorrectly, and was furthering the damage, in my overzealous efforts to get the pain and infection to stop. I have been to many dentists, oral surgeons and hygienists in my life and this is the first periodontist I have tried. None of my practitioners even suggested I see one. I found Dr. Lubritz just in time to save my teeth and jaw from decay and surgery. I wish every adult in Houston would visit Dr. Lubritz for a simple checkup, as the pain and fear of dentists (periodontists) would evaporate on the first visit. Most problems initiate in the gums, and the gums can tell the story of what is really hurting your teeth and may even indicate other health problems, if the Dr. examining you has the patience and experience to translate the indicators into an effective treatment. I called the after-hours line and was seen this morning without a lengthy wait. AND, there wasn't an astronomical charge attached to this unexpected visit. Dr. Joon Kim, Dr. Huynh, Raven, Rochelle and the WHOLE staff are very compassionate and caring; which is very rare these days. They take time to ensure that you are comfortable and pain-free before procedures are started. Whenever you decide to visit, be sure not To let the exterior portion of the building fool you. The office is clean and the equipment is sterile. Good hand-washing techniques are practiced. I even noticed that the exam room chairs are sanitized between each patient. In other words, even though this practice serves mostly those who are indigent they treat the people like they are important. (Which they are. ;) I truly believe that God is going to reward and bountifully bless this thriving practice to become one of the leading dental establishments in Houston.
