But she took my call and had me laughing in no time, which really helped because I was in so much pain. A little backstory, my braces were removed in 2021. A year later, my permanent retainer was moving my teeth. My orthodontist took full blame and put braces on the bottom of my teeth to correct them. The process was finished in April. Well, the left side of my head and face became very painful. The orthodontist said the retainer mold was wrong and replaced that... Fast forward, I moved to Texas, and now I'm at the doctor's because my face is swollen, and on to the Berkeley Eye Center. I'll spare you the rest. So now, I have the kindest woman named Sherri on the phone, who I consider a friend now. She told me to come on in, she'll send the paperwork through email, and she'll see me at two. She didn't stop there; once I got there and finished the exam, I thought I had to come back for them to put the proper braces on. Nope, Sherri said we can do the braces today, and they did! No more pain for me. Thank you, thank you so much, Sherri!

My treatment started in May 2024 and it is now Aug 2025. 1 year and 3 months in so at least 15 visits, and I can honestly say every visit was pleasant (even in the first one where it was the only time I had to wait, everyone was super nice). Every single staff member here is chill and seems happy to be there. That's probably because Dr. Tran is the same way and so kind. I genuinely enjoy conversations with her! Also - and most importantly-, she really knows what she's doing. She took in the requests I made and made them happen. As a detail-oriented person myself, I appreciated her meticulousness. I am happy to say that not only do my teeth look straighter, they also look younger (talk to her about removing the black triangles, or gaps between teeth and gum line). I am also happy that my teeth don't look fake like some people's do after being over-polished and ground down (was that a 90s orthodontia thing?); mine retained (most of) their natural shapes and the ups and downs of their edges. I also have to shout out her team. Both the front office and technician ladies here are awesome. The technicians announce every little thing they are doing next so that you are fully aware and never surprised; they anticipate every question and answer them ahead of you asking, all while being really nice and kind. Also, Marysol on handling insurance - incredible. If only every front office person at every doctor's office were half as good as her. This team really is the gold standard on how a care team should be. Superb. Last year when I said I was getting braces, most friends asked, "Why?" My teeth weren't that crooked to begin with. And this is actually my third time having orthodontia with the first two times having been Invisalign and not successful. To hammer in third time being a charm, I got permanent retainers in addition to nightly retainers. I'll see Dr. Tran and the team again in a month, in two months after that, and in three months after that. I feel good about the after-care plan. In retrospect, am I glad I did it given the initial and subsequent soreness, annoyance every meal with food getting stuck everywhere, time spent on appointments, and cost? 100% yes. I wasn't ever that aware of my teeth before but seeing the before and after pictures, I am even more glad now that I've done it. Now, onto chewing ice and half-popped popcorn... Kidding, kidding. I'll wear my retainers tonight.
