I'm giving 4 stars because I had good experience with a staff here. I came here for prescribed goggles which was sponsored by my employee. The service was fast and the staff was friendly. However, I wanted to give 3 stars due to my coworker's experience. It felt like she was robbed to get an eye exam even though she didn't need it. She brought her current (new) eye glasses to have them obtaining the eye prescription for the safety goggles. Instead of getting the eye prescription, they sent her to a doctor to get the eye exam. Then they charged her for the eye exam. I wouldn't blame the doctor since he wouldn't be awared. The receptionist should know better. They don't want to refund her for the eye exam. read more

She put me on hold a few times then came back and told me she would call me back in 5 minutes. She still has not. If this is who you have as the customers first interaction, this is not okay. I started seeing Dr Winston a year ago and could not be happier. He is knowledgeable and shares what he knows. I have had watery, painful eyes for years with little relief until now. Dr Winston explained the reasoning behind what medications I was using, and why they were not working. I was able to stop using three prescription medications, and replaced them with two non prescription medications. Very nice to go through the day with comfortable eyes. I don't usually post reviews but recent event at this optometry made me. People should know about this place. I recently visited this optometry to order new lenses for my son. We were going to use our son's glass frame because it was rare and comfortable frame for my son, gifted by his grandmother. So we only wanted to replace lenses for new one. After waiting for weeks, they had informed us they lost our son's glasses and had no idea where they are. This was incredibly frustrating as my son was using old glasses mean time and was waiting for that new one. The optometry offered no apology for their mistake and instead try to make us buy new frame with our eye insurance. We were left feeling frustrated and disappointed by their lack of responsibility and customer service. This optometry didn't offer any kind of compensation or solution to the problem. And even didn't return our down payment. Overall, I would not recommend this optometry to anyone in need of reliable and competent eye care. Losing a customer's glasses is simply unacceptable and the lack of accountability and customer service made a bad situation even worse. Expect your glasses to get lost here. read more

So I've been to this doctor before about 2 years ago. It was ok. I decided to go again because I knew I was in their system. The first time I tried making an appointment, they tried everything they could to get me in at the Stephenson Ranch office. However it was not going to work with my schedule. They did say I could also see the doctor at his Northridge office if I wanted. I said that could work. I was told by the receptionist that they would check the schedule and get back to me. Well, they never did. So a few weeks later I had some time off so I called again to make an appointment. After not having anything available early Thursday or Friday, I asked about Monday. 4:30pm was the only time they had. I asked if there was anything earlier, the receptionist said she would look into it and get back to me later that day. Never saying I had a booked appointment. Was never told "okay sir, we'll see you on Monday". Well, they never did call me back.....again. I called them back the next day. I voiced my displeasure in not getting a call back. The lady on the phone was apologetic, but argued that she said she would call me back IF there was anything available earlier. She did not say that, I was told she would call me back later that day. Overall not a horrible experience, but I was on the fence about going back to this office, and after the last 2 experiences with the front office personel, I have cancelled my appointment and am looking for a new eye doctor. Know any good eye doctors in Santa Clarita. Hopefully your experience is better. read more

My patience with this place has finally run out....I've been going to Dr. Winston for three years now but now I'm so fed up with his staff! Appointments are way over booked (do they accept walk-ins?), staff is not very friendly, and there isn't a lot of consistency between this office and the one in the valley. I needed contacts for my trip but noticed my prescription expired, so I had to go for a check-up this past Saturday. I get there a little earlier than my appointment time and had to wait about 45 minutes before my check-up started. Dr. Winston is friendly but seems like he's in a daze sometimes. I noticed he writes little notes on his charts while we have conversations, he brings up my profession and asks how that is coming along. We have small talk for just a little bit, not sure if he really pays attention to what I'm really saying. After my check-up, I place an order for contacts with his assistant. I tell her that I need these contacts by Wednesday and I would like to pick them up at the Northridge office. I told her it was very important because I was going on vacation starting Thursday. She confirmed that I would receive them by Tuesday or Wednesday. They would also call when they arrive. Monday strolls on by...then Tuesday.....around 3PM I make a call to the Northridge office, explain to them about my order, and the lady says my chart is still at the Stevenson Ranch office and that she will make a note for the them to call me tomorrow (Wednesday). Wednesday gets here....still no call at 10:30AM. I decide to call at 11AM. The phones were busy for 20 minutes straight. I finally get a hold of someone, asked about my order and the lady (not in a friendly voice) said that she will call me back in 15 minutes. I go on about my day at work, even take my lunch and at 1:30PM I still get no call back! I finally call again and the lady told me the contacts arrived at the Stevenson Ranch office today, even though I specifically told them to send it to the Northridge office. The lady then tells me that they will be at the Northridge office tomorrow (Thursday). I told her that wasn't acceptable because I will be out of town. After some complaints the only thing that they could do, or would do, is have ONE single pair of contacts available for pick-up at the Northridge office. Because of the late warning, there was no way I could drive from El Segundo to Northridge by 5PM when they close. I had to ask a favor from my dad to pick up the contacts for me. What a stressful day! Another thing to add is this office is smaller than the Northridge therefore having a smaller selection of glasses to choose from. Next year when my prescription is up, I'm definitely looking for another optometrist. Anyone have some suggestions? read more

I honestly cannot say enough about Dr. Winston. I have been dealing with HORRIBLE motion sickness since birth. It has stopped me from doing so many things in my life that I couldn't begin to list them all. I went to see Dr. Winston for a standard eye exam two weeks ago. I picked him at random because they take our insurance and were close to home. I had gotten glasses three years ago and, while I can see fine with them on, I can't wear them and walk around or drive because I get sick when I do. I can feel all the motion just like I'm in a moving vehicle or on a boat. I don't have that problem when they aren't on, but when I put them on and move around I might as well be trying to read in the car. I went over this with Dr. Winston and he started asking me a ton of questions and having me look through the scope while he was assessing some things. Then he put a square piece of glass over one of my eyes and asked me if it changed anything. I told him that everything was very sharply in focus and looked pretty perfect. He then explained to me that there's something called prism in your eyes and that my eyes apparently don't see images exactly together. They are off slightly horizontally. To make a long story short, I have gotten my new glasses with the prism in the lens and I can't believe the difference. I can drive and walk in them, they're crystal clear and I was even able to watch a couple movies with car chases and boat scenes without getting sick. This may sound minor to most people, but for me it is life changing. I don't know yet if it's handled my entire problem, and I'm not about to get a membership to Six Flags, but just this little change is enough to make me feel like crying from relief. Dr. Winston is the first person in over 40 years to take the time to help me to this degree. I can't say enough good things about him. He genuinely cared enough to spend the time to figure this out and I find that to be a very rare quality these days in doctors or human beings in general. His office staff was caring and kind and I would recommend this doctor and his office to anyone out there with eyes. Thank you so much!! read more

Highly recommend Dr. Winston. I needed an optometrist after moving to Santa Clarita and yelped his location. So glad I did. I ended up getting PRK done and Dr. Winston has been extremely responsive and attentive to my needs. He even went so far as to meet me at 130am at his office on a Friday morning when I thought my eye had dislodged its protective lens (turns out it was just extremely dry which can be a side effect of PRK; so wake yourself up or if like me your eyes wake you up DO NOT OPEN THEM. Just add the "tears" aka eyedrops and that will prevent the scary experience I had of feeling like i had a contact lodged in the back of my eye and couldn't touch or rub it to help get it out). He is overall a really nice guy and knows his stuff. He also listens to you and spends the time actually checking and rechecking to make sure things are correct. He is the most thorough optometrist I've ever met and I have seen my fair share (considering I had glasses for 20 years before PRK). Still healing up but he will take good care of you! Staff is friendly and its easy to make an appointment. 5 stars! read more

What a rare find. I can't remember the last time I was treated by a doctor, of any kind, who was so thorough and took the time that Dr Winston did. Luck was, certainly, on my side when I chose a name from the telephone listings. Dr Winston was so kind and caring. His staff was incredibly welcoming and accommodating. He was determined, as well. I have a number of health issues. That being the case, I have a parade of doctors. I can say that, from a LARGE pool from which to choose, Dr Winston is far and away the most thorough I have seen. Dr Winston is professional and informative but you have to go through his staff to get an appointment, which is close to impossible. The woman who schedules the appointments is either very forgetful, or very careless. I called four times on three different days to try to get an appointment, and every time she would say "I have to get the other phone line/check the insurance/get to the North Ridge office/check on some thing else...Can I call you back? And I would never get a phone call back. It wasn't like this in the past. I gave up and went elsewhere, where I only had to make one phone call to get an appointment. read more

Had my eye exam in the beginning of November Waited 3 weeks for my contacts when they said it would take only 2. I called to follow up with them about my contacts and they said it has been ready to pick up for a while but they forgot to call me. We are halfway through January now and I am still waiting on my eye glasses. I have called since my appointment over 10 times they said they would get back to me and they never do. I called again yesterday and they said my glasses have been ready to be picked up since December 30 and again they said they forgot to call me to tell me to pick it up. The administrative staff here is very slow and unreliable. I shouldnt have to call over 10 times to follow up on my eye care. read more

My concern was total cost for the items that I needed. She carefully explained everything and how much my insurance would cover. On my next visit, I was greeted by a very nice young lady with red hair. She ran a couple of tests (love that puff of air to the eyes!). She was very pleasant and personable. Dr. Winston took it from there. He ran a complete eye exam and was interested in making things perfect for me. I've been a patient for about two years. The most important thing to me about getting glasses/contacts is that I'm being examined by a skilled optometrist. Dr. Winston is very exact in his measurements. I know this because a week after getting my prescription from Dr. Winston, I had an exam with another optimetrist (it was free), since Dr. Winston's office didn't have the frames I was looking for (he's since then increased his selection of frames). The other optemetrist gave me a weaker prescription. Dr. Winston's was right on target. He also explained a problem I've been having with dry eyes and posed a very good solution. He detailed the problem and explained the science behind why the home remedy would help (I asked for details). I've had enough of one staff member's rude and condescending attitude to customers. Whenever I or my husband call the Santa Clarita office, someone named Janice answers the phone and claims she will call us back but never does. After waiting for hours and sometimes even days, we call back, only to hear her talk back with an attitude, saying something along the lines of "I told you I would call back." I don't think this woman feels sorry for making customers wait like this. Because of her carelessness, we've had to cancel and reschedule our appointments before. I discovered Dr. Winston on yelp.com and WOW what a great experience! Today was my first visit to Dr. Winston. I made the appointment just to renew my contact lens prescription written by my eye doctor in Encino (now former ;-), who couldn't give me an appointment until January 22nd, arrgggh. Dr. Winston's office is within walking distance of my home, so I booked with him primarily because of his location and his 5 star yelp reviews. Not only did Dr. Winston greatly improve my contact lens prescription but he also diagnosed me with a condition that has gone un-diagnosed for years by my Encino eye doctor and was mis-diagnosed by a very famous Beverly Hills "World-Renowned Eye Surgeon" (according to his website). My condition diagnosed by Dr. Winston is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, I know, it sounds scary but it's not serious, pretty common and easily treatable by me at home. I went to the "World-Renowned" Eye Surgeon in Beverly Hills, complaining of dry eyes a couple of years after I had Lasik surgery done by my Encino eye doctor and he prescribed and fitted me with lower punctal plugs for ~ $500. The punctal plugs only made the problem worse: my eyes still felt dry and now tears would constantly run down my cheeks for no apparent reason. I would have to carry tissue with me wherever I went. I hated the plugs so much that I went back to have them removed. The "World-Renowned" Eye Surgeon charged me an additional $270 to remove them! Dr. Winston took his time to thoroughly explain Meibomian Gland Dysfunction to me and how I could easily treat it at home. I never felt rushed and had a very good understanding of the condition when I left his office! I really can't say enough great things about Dr. Winston! I will now have my family go to him for all their eye care. You can go to those fancy "World-Renowned" Beverly Hills Eye Surgeons if you like, but I'm sticking with Dr. Winston. I couldn't be happier and I'm now on the road to recovering from teary eyes and constant mucous build-up in the corners of my eyes. Thank you so much Dr. Winston!!!! read more

Dr. Winston has been my eye doctor since I first started wearing glasses and contacts; that was 18 years ago. My family and I are no longer located in the LA area and travel from Northern California and out of state to see Dr. Winston because he is that good. We are always able to get an appointment when we need one and with two locations, Northridge and Stevenson Ranch, it makes things very convenient for us. The selection of glasses has been fantastic and given that I do live out of state now, they are more than willing to ship my contacts once they arrive in their offices. The time between office visit and arrival of glasses and contacts has been prompt and accurate. Dr. Winston and his staff are very professional and very diligent. My dad had extremely bad eye sight and no eye doctor could make his glasses to where he could see properly. Only Dr. Winston was able to cater to my dad's special eye needs and as a result we've been going there ever since (for my dad that means 30 years). Problem solved!!! Dr. Winston was able to resolve a problem with my left eye that baffled three other specialists for over a year. Thanks to his skill and professionalism, I can wear contact lenses and see clearly again. I was also so impressed by his patience, as he allowed me to go through several trial brands to find the one that was just right for me. We have been going to Dr. Winston since early 2000! He has always been honest and diligent when it came to the treatment of our eyes. I brought my son in to have his exam done, the doctor was very impressed with the aptitude of our 3 1/2 year old at the time. He stated that he had never experienced someone so young to do as exceptionally well on the vision test let alone be so attentive! I truly believe the demeanor in which Dr. Winston treated our son made it easy to have such a positive experience! His staff has always been professional when we had any prescriptions that needed to be filled . Normally, I wouldn't bash someone who takes care of me on the Internet, but I feel as if my experience warrants this. First of all, very unprofessional staff. Every time I go in there one of the receptionists in on a personal phone call that she "has to finish" and the other one is just completely lost. The doctor himself is OK- kind of a jerk and seems to have a temper problem, but gets the job done. What has really made me upset is that I called the emergency number on their answering machine which turned out to be his cell phone I'm assuming. Well, one of my contacts fell out as I was 30 miles away from home and I needed to get my prescription faxed to a pharmacy ASAP. I called once and had to call back to give them the fax number. Called back the number they gave me, and of course did anyone answer? No. Called the emergency line and guess what. No answer. Thanks to these people I drove home at night with one contact in, had to pullover because of how nauseated I was from my vision, and could not see the whole way home. Oh and by the way, the called me the next day at 4 o'clock PM. Because I am sure that was oh so helpful. I would not recommend this office, save your money and go somewhere else. read more

I have to agree with the gal with the contacts problem. The staff is really bad, they never call you, you have to call them and then be put on hold for who knows how long, then in the case of Naomi, you have to slowly spell your name several times before she gets it right. Dr. Winston has been my doctor for 6+ years. He's a nice enough doctor with a pleasant demeanor. The one major complaint I have and the reason I have decided to find another eye care provider is his office staff. Every single time I have used his services there is some mix up or an other. They are completely unorganized and not the friendliest bunch. I always thought to myself that I should just give them one more chance (since I do only see them once a year) but when I received a phone call 4 months after my appointment accusing me of not paying a copayment and that I needed to come up with the receipt or pay it, I was done.
