We went there Christmas Eve with a party of 14. We had the reservation for 2 weeks. We had a 7:15 reservation, and we were seated promptly. But then the problems started. Our waitress was very friendly, and came over after 30 minutes. She took drink orders. It took 1 1/2 hours to get our drinks (she forgot one). She told us after 1 hour that they were out of 2 of the fish types we ordered. Food came out as a partial order at 8:50. We were walking out about 9:15, and saw the 2 managers laughing in the parking lot instead of trying to get a handle on the chaos. It will be quite a while before we go there again. The Onion Crusted mahi-mahi was to die for, I forgot to snap a photo of it before I devoured it! My husband and son got the lobster bisque and they said it was absolutely delicious. Marker 88 had some of the most gorgeous views! My friend and I arrived just before the lunch rush and were seated on the beach. Service here is slow but it is attentive and friendly. My friend and I ordered the Tuna Nachos (sooooo good!) and the Calarmari (skip it!). Again, the food took awhile but the nachos were a hit! We didn't order any alcoholic beverages because our server confirmed the margaritas were all pre-made. So, that's a no from me. Overall, it's a decent spot. Marker 88 was a very enjoyable restaurant. We were seated right on the sand and the view was so beautiful. Our server tended to us very cordially and checked on us frequently. Our meal items were perfectly prepared and with large portions. I cannot stress how nice the view was, especially from our vantage point, because it made the meal so much more enjoyable. They had a musician, playing instrumental beach music, which placed another layer of enjoyment to the experience. This was often a place I would come to but it seems they forgot about client service in spite of their great location. The food is good, it takes long to get served but not great as great places for food in the keys is plentiful given that it is a tourist destination. Been back here twice since the renovations and they are beautiful. Great place to watch the sunset with some live music. You can also just get a drink and apps at the bar which is spacious and has a great view of the ocean. The food is good; some dishes are better than others. We can tell the quality improved from first to second visit. The ceviche is delicious and fresh. I had the hogfish coconut encrusted with the key lime sauce and it was delicious. Food is pricey and would be nice if they offered a fish sandwich, burger or tacos; nothing is really handheld for dinner time. Not a fan of their mixed drinks but draft beer selection on tap is great. Service still needs improvement. My son's Mac and cheese came out last, we were eating in the dark without being offered a table light when other's had one and took a while to find waitress to pay. My wife and I had 24 hours to kill in South Florida before our flight home. We decided to drive through the Keys to catch a nice dinner with views. I hopped on YouTube and found someone who reviewed this place. The sunset views (in the video) ALONE won us over. We decided to head here for our "last dinner in Florida". Boy, this place did NOT disappoint. There is not a bad view of the ocean in the entire restaurant! There was someone singing and strumming a guitar over the water, which we LOVED. A place geared much more towards families or a nice date night. This is not your typical waterfront restaurant where it's more of a party/bar atmosphere. If that's your thing, skip this place. Overall ambiance here is a solid 10/10. Everything on the menu is made in house, from scratch. I had the Key Lime Seafood (an array of seafood on a bed of rice) and my wife had the Sirloin Fajitas (waitress recommendation). Both were fabulous! Well portioned and VERY flavorful! We ended with the classic Key Lime Pie, which had the perfect amount of tart. I was so impressed with the overall experience, I wanted to find this place the next time we come back. We found this place on a list of must visits in the Keys. Great atmosphere - tables on the sand so that you can enjoy the view as you dine. We caught a gorgeous sunset! My hubby got some sort of seafood combo and the mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was great! Probably the best part of the entire meal. I had the hogfish and it was good. Flakey and not dry, but I would have liked a little more sauce. Without enough it was a little bland. Garlic zucchini was good. The menu is very seafood based which isn't good for everyone. I can't eat shellfish and my choices were limited because of this. Would like a few more items on the menu for those of us who can't eat shellfish. read more

Disappointing Experience - Poor Service & Overpriced for the Hype If I could give zero stars, I would. We made a reservation at Marker 88 for 5:15 PM, expecting a smooth and enjoyable dining experience at this so-called "upscale waterfront restaurant" to watch the sunset. Which is the only thing this place has going for it. Instead, we were met with chaos, poor service, and an environment that felt more like a crowded public beach than a refined dining spot. We were not seated until 5:30, which isn't a huge deal, but when we finally got our table, it was dirty. The hostess saw it, ignored it, and didn't bother to have someone clean it. We sat there waiting--no menus, no water, no acknowledgment. It took 20 minutes before anyone even noticed us. Our waiter, Roberto, eventually arrived with waters and said he'd be right back. Another 10 minutes passed before he returned to take our drink order. When our drinks finally arrived 15 minutes later, they were already watered down from sitting too long. My second drink, likely an attempt to make up for the first, was overloaded with rum to the point of being undrinkable. We placed our food order, and to their credit, the food came out relatively quickly. It was fine, but certainly not worth the inflated prices they charge. What truly ruined the experience, though, was the lack of attentiveness. Once our food was delivered, our waiter completely disappeared--no check-ins, no offer for refills, nothing. My husband had to physically track someone down just to find our waiter and request the bill. Then, instead of simply bringing the check to the table, the waiter bizarrely asked my husband to follow him to pay. Beyond the terrible service, the atmosphere was anything but "upscale." Kids were literally swimming in the water, ignoring the "No Swimming" sign, while numerous dogs were being walked around as if it were a public park. Overall, the entire experience was a disorganized mess. If you're looking for an overpriced, poorly managed restaurant with nonexistent service, this is your place. Otherwise, save your time and money--there are far better spots in Islamorada that actually deliver what they promise. read more

This place has top ratings and few open reservations at dinner for a reason. It's one of the best places on Islamorada for a delicious and relaxing meal with a view of the sunset. After missing out on my first attempt to eat here (place was packed full all night), I was able to enjoy a wonderful dinner here the following night thanks to a reservation. We arrived about a half hour before sunset and were seated on their covered patio with a view towards the setting sun in the west. I started out my meal with a delicious virgin pina colada, which was sweet and refreshing. Good thing it was "unleaded", because I didn't pace myself very well and slurped the whole thing down before my meal even arrived! For dinner, the Key Lime seafood looked delicious, and my hubby agreed -- we both ended up ordering it and did not regret it one bit. The seafood was fresh, the flavors were inventive, and it was the perfect dish to celebrate being in the Keys in the late spring. If you're headed to the Keys or just around Islamorada, a stop at the historic Plantation Key Marker 88 is an absolute must. And if you've been there years ago, be prepared. It has recently all changed and, in my opinion, changed for the better with massive improvements in spacious open chickee (Florida's version of tiki) hut dining. The staff is total friendly and professional. It also has an outstanding menu with everything from a sauteed in olive oil, herbs and roasted garlic Shrimp Zoodles to my favorite, Hogfish Grenobloise. The beach views are of course spectacular with plenty of good seating overlooking the pristine waters of the bay. On this occasion I merely had their 8oz Cheeseburger in Paradise with cedar on a brioche bun which was totally tasty and done exactly as ordered. In all, Marker 88 is not to be missed. read more

We have been visiting MM88 for over 30 years and have enjoyed its delicious food and beautiful transformation through the years. The food has always been our favorite in the Keys. We have taken all of our children, family and friends in hopes of sharing the amazing sights and great food. You can't beat it. Unfortunately, the restaurant was recently sold and despite the massive renovations and beautification, the menu was dwindled down to basic non-traditional Keys dishes and we are devastated. All of our favorite dishes like the onion crusted fish, lobster Mac and cheese, and tuna nachos are gone. Ughhhh... my heart is heavy. In good news, the Bloody Mary is still yum!! The view still makes me super happy though so if you're looking for a fabulous view and perhaps a great party venue, this is the spot. What a cool place. We tried this late Sunday afternoon- place was hopping! We decided to sit at the bar since the wait for 2 without reservations was at least an hour. It was a beautiful day with lots of sun. The 2 bartenders were doing an amazing job with drinks for the entire restaurant and the bar, food service and a large group of local ppl.
