I went in a Market Basket a few days ago. Immediately I was blown away. Felt like I walked in a grocery store from +30 years ago. From the south, it felt like Winn-Dixie was alive again. This is your average Market Basket. Parking lot is big. Hot bar is average. The one in New Bedford is bigger and has hot soup there too. Kinda irritated that they seem to have slowed down on selling their rotisserie chickens. I've gone so many times to get one and none to be found. I do love the cheap basil plants they sell in the warmer weather. Lots of registers open so lines are not super slow. Bathroom is ok. It is right next to a liquor store. read more

Parking is terrible. This place is ALWAYS crowed. I only go when I need to. Market Basket has great prices and a great selection. It's a fantastic supermarket. EXCEPT the employees are so unhappy. The isles are too small for employees to be stocking the shelves while people are trying to shop. I mean big pallets of stock in every isle. The people shopping have no happy thoughts. I'm typing this review in regards to my parent's they really like to have the chicken from here and in line waiting to be served and my Dad only said Hello Hello for some assistance and both servants were chit chatting and she became extremely rude and yelling and told my dad to go home and beat up his wife then my dad asked to speak to a manager but he was certain that wasn't the manager nothing was done. I was very critical of the difficulty to get help finding things in the past, so I must give credit here for the outstanding help I got from Connie (an assistant manager I believe). I was looking for an on-sale refrigerated tortilla brand that my wife buys that is known to change location in the store. So low quantity product that gets moved so hard to find. After asking several associates with no luck went to service desk, Connie was on her way for something else but gave me a suggestion. I went there, nothing, then Connie shows up to help. She said, lets check the sale flyers, went to office for a printed copy - nothing - she then thinks to check next week's flyer for a hint, but nothing. She says she would check the other side of the store while I thought to look elsewhere. I'm walking around and she tracks me down - she found them! Unfortunately, I do not get to shop there often but when I do, I'm never disappointed! I do wish they would offer a shop for us Service. I'm handicap and use shopping for patrons service in a couple other stores. I find it very helpful.. then I just have to have somebody pick it up for me. Instacart does, but they charge an extra fee. Shopping the New Bedford store is a nightmare. On top of the hundreds of other shoppers clogging the aisles, some driving their shopping carts as clueless as they drive their cars, the aisles are jammed with employees stocking shelves. The shopping experience is extremely painful. Dodging employees, most of whom glare at customers disgustingly, trying to reach a product on a shelf blocked by pallets of merchandise, avoiding collisions with other shoppers is an experience that will take days off your life. My major gripe is that whoever does the inventory ordering might be a spazz. Sometimes they randomly get rid of products that I like. Today, no gallons of Lactaid. On 2qts of skim. Weird. Also, they need more sugar free coffee creamer. In this one regard (inventory selection) Stop & Shop is probably better. I know there are more examples... You really can't beat this grocery store. Talk about having everything in one location. Prices are very reasonable and the quality and selection is quite large. Anything you need ,anything your craving you will find here. The best time to go is early morning. It gets quite busy. Don't be in a hurry so you can really check out the asides. The bakery is fantastic and if you don't want to cook that night there's plenty of prepared food. There pizza is really good to. Wear your mask and bring your hand sanitizer it's a busy store. They have good prices and a lot of variety, especially in "ethnic" foods. However, groceries is not the best part of this market. People watching here is quite an experience. Some of the most aesthetically and fashion challenged people walk through these aisles and it is entertaining to watch. Whenever I come here, I love to get the steak and or State Farm the last three times I have from here. My order has not been ready. I had to wait excessive time after calling into phone in the order so that I didn't have to wait this last time the primary reason review is that I went to get a steak and cheese after a long day so I didn't have to cook tonight. I love this grocery store, it's by far the best in Fall River! Peak times make for cramped aisles but there is usually never a way to cash out. Large variety, clean store, fresh produce, awesome deli, amazing grab and go foods at the front of the store and the butcher shop is a must check out!! And the best part of all? The afternoon to evening kitchen grill is underperforming. 30 minutes to get one sandwich. One cook chats twice as much as he should with a line waiting to order. The next cook can only perform one task at a time and is in no hurry to do even that. The rest of the store has terrific deals most weeks. The meat is good. The prime cowboy steaks are great. But that kitchen is horrendous during peak hour so if you want something hot and don't have a lot of time to kill, you are better off going to chick fil a across the lot. read more

Prices are cheaper than the stop in shop in some items and place is very clean. Beginning all produce was clean and fresh, but seems they are lacking a bit on the produce section. Couple of weeks ago I went to get sweet onions and they were all rotten. I used to think my local friends who drove to New Bedford to grocery shop at the Market Basket there were crazy. I didn't grow up with one so I basically thought it was a copy of Stop & Shop. However, now I get it. Market Basket is easily the best grocery store in Fall River. The only con I can see so far is just how popular they already are. Parking is pretty crazy, I try to head for the side of the building to avoid the worst of it but the quickness of checkout makes it worthwhile. They always have baggers on with cashiers and during peak times they have every register open. They are not the CHEAPEST grocery store (that title belongs to PriceRite) but dang, are they close. When you average the quality of their selection, prices, and customer service and compare it to the nearby competition they simply cannot be beat. Selection is excellent, they have lots of brands I cannot find anywhere else in the area unless I drive to Providence and go to Whole Foods. They butcher their own meat so everything is very fresh and their bakery is excellent as well. Their lemon-filled donuts are amazing and I can't get enough of their sushi counter either. If you need to shop in the Riv, Market Basket is the best grocery store in Fall River by far. read more

The store is fine and well stocked. Today I spoke to the manager telling him that I am so frustrated with being unable to reach items. The top shelf is too high for my 5'5" height. Even in the freezers I am unable to reach items I want. The manager fell back on the excuse of his plan-o-gram. Guess he really doesn't give a damn. Also, I am noticing that items I previously purchased and enjoyed are now replaced by other items. Must be the plan-o-gram again. I've been shopping here since about a month after they opened.. the store is huge, neat and clean and the employees are friendly. The prepared foods and bakery are both awesome. Prices are way lower than Stop and Shop and other grocery stores. I've bought meats a few times and they were fine, I did read the other reviews and saw a few complaining about the meat quality but I personally haven't had a problem. The café is always clean, I've only sat down and eaten here once and it was excellent. I would do it more often if I had the time. The restrooms are also always clean and the store itself is spotless, hopefully it will stay that way! The only thing I don't like is the fact that they don't have self check outs, I'm one of those people that prefers to scan and bag my own items, so they're bagged the way I like them. Now I line stuff up on the conveyor belt in the order of which I want it bagged and the poor bagger always looks confused. I usually end up doing it myself. I also read the review about how management treats the staff. I haven't seen it, but I'm usually in and out of there pretty quick. If I saw it myself, it would probably affect whether or not I shopped there in the future. read more

I reviewed the NB MB a while ago and now have moved here to do my shopping. It was great to know that Louise has moved from NB to the seafood dept. here in FR. She is fantastic!! The store is smaller than NB but being newer, has a lot of different aspects that are much better. Especially the Butcher Block in the meat department. What a lot of choices!!! Stuff pork chops and tenderloins, stuff chicken, marinated tips, thicker cuts of meats and a lot more. I shop at night and the staff working behind there is knowledgeable and super friendly. The best grocery store on the east coast!!! I use to shop in Westport, because it was convenient. The Fall River market basket, , has saved me @ least 150.00 dollars per week. The shelves are stocked, with the freshest produce, and products, not usually found , in the run of the mill ,grocery stores. So today I go food shopping. I usually go to the Super Walmart because it's like a one stop shop. I decided to go to Market Basket because that's where I usually get my quarters to do laundry. Now the past few times I've been to the Fall River or New Bedford Market Basket my experience has been HORRENDOUS. So I figured since it's a Monday nobody would be there. Well everybody & their mother was there. They literally didn't have half the stuff I was looking for. I tried to buy a 2 liter of Dr Pepper THEY HAD NONE. So I ended up at Walmart to finish half of my grocery shopping. I couldn't believe how much cheaper Walmart is compared to Market Basket. I compared prices on everything I bought at Market Basket. I buy these Little Debbie muffins for $3 at Walmart. They were $5 at Market Basket. I remember going to Market Basket on Amherst St when I was a kid & it never used to be like this. Well, for those of you who read my initial review of Fall River's new Market Basket, THIS is a re-write. My opinion of the food still stands! Best place to come, order a meatloaf dinner, a turkey dinner, a slice of Sicilian pizza, wing dings, etc. The bakery is terrific, the prices are tremendously low, and the employees, 99.9% of them, are the best ever! Courteous, friendly, kind, and extremely accomodating. Melissa and I eat the majority of our lunches and dinners here almost every day! A liter of diet coke, a hot meal, and dessert, $7! For two people! The MAJOR issue? The management! Not only can a certain few of them be outright abusive toward the employees, but also the managers ALWAYS side with the rude and inappropriate customers! How do we know? WE SEE IT, UP FRONT AND CLOSE, EVERYDAY! Melissa works at Stop & Shop, so we see and compare. Example: A customer starts screaming at, and belittling, a competent and top notch cashier (a friend of ours). She takes it, and continues on a bit rattled. The front end manager, B, goes to talk to the customer. After he's done, the customer returns to the cashier (our friend) with his loud, intimidating voice, and starts in on her again! "I hope the camera sees everything!" She now gets completely rattled. I'm in line to cash out, and, me being me, I start screaming at the guy to go sit down. He starts telling me to mind my own business, and asking me if I'd like to go at it. I tell him it's illegal to hit a senior, so no. Stupid, he says "I'm 68, I'm older than you are!" So I said, "exactly." Now, B returns, saying he'll "throw him out of here even though he's here every day!" The cashier, and two others in line, speak up, saying "he (the customer) started everything!" The cashier, receiving no words of comfort or assurance from her boss, chooses to leave on a time and a half Sunday. A manager, tall B, goes to see the customer and rewards his childish behavior with a gift card! I question that move, and he tells me "that's how I chose to handle it." The abusive customer gets a giftcard, and the cashier loses her Sunday pay. Is THIS really Artie T's Market Basket? Yesterday, another cashier, who previously had been accosted by a customer who just walked in, was threatened again by said custmer. She tells her manager, A, of whom most of her employees refer to as mean and abusive, who simply laughs. That cashier had to seek out the store manager, Q, who basically brushed it off as well. Folks, this is Fall River. If nothing, this city has had it's share of catfights. To this cashier, the threat was real. Front end cashiers speak of C as being "mean," abusive and harassing. A has all but eliminated the morale, if there ever was any, from the kitchen. Q is MB's choice manager to open new stores. Someone needs to teach Q about the importance of morale in the workplace. If folks have great morale, the type that Hosea could bring to the front end and other employees as well, anything can be accomplished. But when there's no morale, almost nothing succeeds. Remember, this post is my personal opinion, and hearsay. Make your own decisions! UPDATE: After WITNESSING the treatment of a very competent and kind cashier, we sent an email to Sue Pieslak, who forwarded it to Joe Schmidt. Joe wrote me back: "You are misinformed," was basically the gist. I'm not sure how I can see, hear and be actively involved in a situation, only to be told I'm misinformed. But that's how they handled things. The cashier tells me she met with Mgt only to get nowhere. We've been voting with our dollars by eating and shopping less there. Market Basket is such a great store. They have just about everything. This new store is booming with business. No wonder this is so. They have just about every thing you are looking for. Staff is knowledgable, friendly and helpful. The store is immaculate. The store was a madhouse with prices comparable eople and cart jams on every aisle, yet the shelves were neat, orderly and we'll stocked, staff is helpful. They have EVERYTHING and the prices are good. I would say comparable to Swansea 's super Walmart. Kudos to Michael, a parking lot attendant who was so helpful getting my heavy pumpkin safely placed in my car. I is this market was closer to my home. read more

Moved from Bridgewater MA to RI and was psyched that MB Fall River was still close enough to shop at! Will only go elsewhere if I need an item or two in a pinch otherwise the 20 min drive is well worth it. I cringe at the register whenever I shop anywhere else -MB is the best! read more
