I have shopped here regularly for over 10 years because of its convenient location. For the past year or so I have noticed a decline in how well the shelves are stocked. I regularly leave the store without being able to purchase all items on my shopping list. Just today they were out of 2% Market Basket brand milk and Mott's applesauce. I will be traveling to the Danvers MB from now on as my past experiences with that store have always been successful. read more

I've shopped at MB for many years. Rowley is a good experience, friendly personnel, not over crowded, easy to navigate the isles. Middleton is not a pleasant experience. Very crowded regardless of the time of day. Baggers are terrible. Food is carelessly tossed into bags without care. Most of the staff works hard to fill the shelves but they jam up the aisles causing frustration among shoppers. Produce is generally fresh and there's a wide selection of bread. Note to manager at MB in Middleton: Train your baggers to do a better job. Teach your personnel to smile and look the customers in the eye when addressing them. Little gestures like this are important to us. read more

Good prices but the baggers don't know how to bag. Does no one train them how to put things in a bag? I remember when I worked at Wegmans they show you how to bag groceries properly and how to group things together. They def need to revisit this. I even group my groceries for proper bagging on the belt and they still can't bag properly. read more

Love Market Basket as a whole... HATE the one in Chelsea near my home, so the other morning the baby was up early & I didnt feel like just going to Chelsea... So we took a little ride up Rt 1 (I was heading to NH Truthfully), when I then remembered there was a MB over on 114... So I get there & for a friday am I was suprisingly stunned when the parking lot was kinda empty... I get in the store & it is quite large, has all the normal things I can find at MB... However, the store was full of the Older Generation, shopping & working... I felt like I had travelled to a Retirement Community in Florida... And Im so beyond tired of hearing "Aww How Cute SHE is", when she is wearing Blue Camoflage... Seriously People just because my son has long hair... LOOK AT HIS FACE - HES CLEARLY A BOY!!! But I left the store satisfied that I got some good deals & didnt have to deal with the usual crowd of "winners' at the Chelsea MB... But my 2 stars are because today I opened up Bread that I Bought on my trip there (Friday - today is Monday) all moldy... Luckily I live across the St from a corner store & ran over & got some more bread & then proceeded to continue making dinner, I opened the Cheese (Shredded bag of Mexican - dated 9/30/2011) and it was full of mold... So Im thinking shelf life at this Market Basket might be a bit longer than a busier MB, so I will not be going back... Oh dear... This MB location needs to learn the meaning of "consistency" BADLY. Every time I shop here they are out of something I need. Sometimes it's a soy creamer I like to drink often, sometimes it's something super common like pinto beans. Point is, they almost always run low/out of things and it's never consistent in the two years I've been shopping here. Additionally, the managers should really vet their employees more.. they hire a lot of young high-school-looking kids who are on their phones while you're checking out. I remember what it was like being in high school, hating my first job/etc, but I would NEVER have the guts to get on my phone in front of customers. I would also double-check your receipt when they ring you up, because MULTIPLE times I've been overcharged for avocados, tomatoes, etc because they didn't change their signs. I will say, Market Basket, in general, has great quality of food items. Some of my favs are their 70% dark chocolate bars (2/$3) and restaurant-style tortilla chips. read more

Market Basket simply cannot be beat on price, which is the main reason people shop here. In addition, this Market Basket is a quick 5 minute jaunt from my house. So why don't I shop here all the time? 1) Selection: Most people will like this place. Personally, I eat a lot of frozen food, and the selection here is bad. 1 coffin and one freezer door is all they have, and half of the coffin is breakfast foods. 2) Too busy: I've been here when it's more mellow, and it's not too bad, but when this place is busy, it sucks. One of the entrances they might as well shut down because you have to walk all the way to the other entrance to actually get into the store, otherwise your fighting your way through checkout lines and people turning in their bottles and cans. In addition, I usually go in the afternoon, when the elderly are out in force. These people are some of the most self-righteous people I've ever seen, as they'll simply cut you off without even a glance as they weave their way ever so slowly from aisle to aisle. Was accused of theft without an explanation while trying to run a quick grocery errand. It took a while to resolve the issue even after a pat down and emptying pockets. Not sure why it had to take so long. Wanted to buy a few things and get going but even after kindly cooperating, they continued to waste my time. Very poor experience, it shouldn't have taken as long as it did to showcase that nothing was stolen. 1 star for an embarrassing experience on top of drawn out process to clear someone for nothing being stolen. Alright, I'm going to say what we're all thinking when we read reviews about grocery stores (or, really, what we SHOULD all be thinking): there's never going to be a store that has it all. Right? Exactly. There's never going to be a store that has it all when it comes to price, selection, cleanliness, and customer service. Sad, but true. That being said, this place does have some things that the other stores don't. First, (as other reviewers have noted) Market Basket is cheap. Cheap. Cheap. Cheap. This is not my normal weekly grocery shopping stop because its just not convenient for me, but having gone there a half dozen times and almost buying the store, I have always been surprised at how inexpensive my grocery bill has been. Second, they have an incredible selection of Bob's Red Mill products. That and their spice selection in general has always exceeded anything I ever tried to find at Shaw's and Stop & Shop. (And, when it comes to spices does anyone ever buy any from Trader Joe's? Let's be real here, they only sell the most common spices and even then when you find one you like, it gets discontinued.) Like I said at the beginning of this thing, every grocery store has pros and cons. This particular Market Basket's issues are similar to many of its sister stores: somewhat confusing, unconventional layout; a very unappetizing health and beauty products aisle; whenever I try to find Applegate Farm frozen sausages, they've mysteriously moved from the last place I found them; and, their parking lots are crazy. All in all, not a bad place to shop if you know they'll have what you need and you're trying to get it on the cheap. read more

I usually come here after dropping Dritzy off @ daycare so it's always early in the am before 8:30 during the week and this is by far best Market Basket I've been to. Last week I was in one in Union Square Somerville and what a shit show but this one is so much bigger and better organized. Parking lot is huge always plenty of spots and like I said I'm here early during week usually but have also been here about 5:00 PM before picking Dritzy up so the parking is good at both times. The shelves are always stocked and it seems as if they're constantly restocking during the day as there's lots of activity going on. Plenty of registers with actual human beings are always open and the employees both at registers and bagging are always friendly and courteous. I always get lots of waters and Power Ade Zeroes and I always ask for a box instead of bags and they always get me one without blinking an eye. This is the best Market Basket I have ever shopped at. The team is incredibly friendly and helpful, always willing to answer your questions with a smile. Today is the day before a blizzard and the manager was in the 12 items or less line bagging for the lovely cashier. They both smiled and asked how I was, chatted while I was rung up, and were just all around super nice, despite the store being riddled with impatient, rude and downright mean customers. That says a lot. I've worked retail and it is hard to keep a smile on your face when you're inundated with horrible people. But this team is always wonderful and I can't give them high-enough praise. Keep it up guys, and to the manager (who's name I believe was Terry), excellent work. You should be very proud. read more

If it wasn't for the proximity to where I live, I'd never go to this place. The design is it's fatal flaw. Both entrances dump you into crowded lines of people, and both entrances bottleneck before you enter the actual store. Go at the wrong time, and a brief jaunt to get under 10 items took me 20 minutes. Besides the horrible layout, it's just a small store. Why not travel 10 more minutes to the one in Reading or Andover? That time driving you'll be wasting getting around this store anyways... read more

Went in for my weekly shopping run-- yes, in the middle of all the "oh noes we have a hurrrrrrrricane coming in so let's stock up on carts of toilet paper!" and was SO IMPRESSED with the staff members that were working. I was in and out within 30 minutes, and the staff in the aisles were as helpful as they could be to all the crazy people in there. Friendly checkout, friendly baggers, and order was kept. Ugh! Too crowded - all the time! No matter what time you go to this market basket the aisles are packed and you have to say excuse me every .4 seconds! I live in Danvers so this store is hard to avoid completely but anytime I have the time I make the trip to Middleton as it is a much less stressful shopping experience! It's nice that Market Basket stores open early for seniors, it's nice that they limit customers entering the store and it's nice that they enforce the 6 feet apart rule at the registers. Now, if the store in Middleton would turn the lights on in the dairy and freezer sections so that customers could find the two items that are in there, if the store in Middleton would restock overnight as other Market Basket stores are doing and not wait until the first class customers start arriving and if the store in Middleton would do a better job of dusting and cleaning shelves (my blue colored latex gloves were olive green from dust). This Market Basket is close to my parents house and whenever I'm home I get my grocery shopping done here. It is less crowded that Danvers, and is located in a more afluent suburb so you don't have the crazy crowds you usually get at more urban MBs. Also, they have more organica and natural products that other MBs don't have. read more

I finally broke down and started going to MB. The cost of Stop and Shop (much closer to my house) was getting out of hand. The money you save is unbelievable. I wish I started shopping here sooner.
