Kikos was great! But they're gone now... they been replaced and the new place isn't great. They didn't serve my friend her 1 fish taco. It's own taco.. took more than 30mins... She ordered before me and my friend and they served us our food and got everyone else in line, others but not hers. Very disappointing and upsetting when I let them know they didn't even apologize they refunded but didn't acknowledge their mistake. They seemed upset to refund her taco so she ordered next door and got her food from a Thai place in less than 5mins. Lots of places that have potential but places don't last long. Not much good places. Kikos was the spot. Ambiance is nice but they don't allow dogs. read more

Love these cute local eatery market. I'm glad they have more in San Diego now. Come with a group of friends and there's lots to choose from! There is open air indoor and outdoor seating. First time checking out this food hall. It's much smaller than Liberty Station. We got there around 10:30am so some places weren't open yet. There's mostly Mexican style food here but there's also Japanese, Thai, and steak vendors here. I went to Carnitas Quiroga to get Chiccharon taco and carnitas taco. $5 each. The Chiccharon was nice and crispy with guacamole on top. However It was a bit hard to eat in a taco because of its chunky pieces. I really enjoyed the carnitas tacos because it had a combination of fatty and crispy pork. The tacos were very filling so I was too full to try other vendors here. There's a lot of open seating here both indoor and patio . If I'm ever in National City, I'd come back here again for sure. read more

This place as a whole is a jackpot for those foodies out there. They have a variety of options for all, picky eaters or not sure what they want. My wife and I always get a Carnitas taco as Carnitas Quiroga the same on Highland is in Market on 8th . A must try no matter what you are getting. Today we were there to try a place that has A ribeye plate which has bone Marrow a supposed to be 12oz steak two quesadillas. The place is apparently not on the list of restaurants. It's called Brasa Norte. The food had great flavor. I wish it was 12oz of cooked steak instead of it looking more like 6-8 barely. Thankfully we had our Carnitas taco. Went to Roger's and Donburi Rice bowls. The food was awesome. The service was fast took about 10 minutes. I got ceviche from Roger's and the fresh fish and veggies were delightful. At Donburi I tried their chicken wings with with Japanese bbq sauce and the flavor was all the way live the garlic made it stand out. I'm learning that National City has a handful of hidden gems, this one included. I normally go to Liberty station, but this one is nice too! I love how it's indoors and loud airplanes aren't causing a disruption. The inside is clean and has many local eateries ranging from Mexican, Italian, Asian food and more! You'll also find a bar along with a mini arcade and the cutest shop selling fun Knick knacks. I heard so much about the Market on 8th. I couldn't wait to experience this Food Hall. My family and I went to celebrate my husband's birthday on Oct 2nd. My mom wanted sushi, so we stopped at Sushi National. From the moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by Melody and a gentleman (I did not get his name) and made to feel incredibly welcome. I let Melody know this was our first time here. They weren't opened yet, but she opened early for us. WOW! My mom ordered a crunchy roll, I can't remember what the name was. Melody delivered to our table. Was so appreciative for our business. Even told us about all the businesses and when it all started. She was definitely the hostess of the whole venue. The roll was huge, full of shrimp, crab and more! My mom and husband loved it! We also ordered the Tomahawk steak meal from Bravo Norte. Seriously, I had been drooling over the vids I've seen on Instagram. And could not wait to lock down that Tomahawk. How could you go wrong at $44. It's enough food to share with others. The chef hand delivered this meal straight to our table. They had plenty of fresh salsas, chili paste, cucumbers and more. So fresh, tasty, juicy melt in your mouth yumminess. We also ordered some chicharrone from Carnitas Quiroga, heaven! Ok, I'm adding on to this. Because we ended up coming back 2 days later. It's that good. I brought more family to continue the birthday celebrations. Of my mom, who turned 91 years young. And my husband's birthday. It was a must first stop again, at Sushi National. By this time we're all family. So excited to see Melody and the familiar faces from the first go around. Mom loved the roll she got last time. So she got that. We ordered the Tomahawk from Bravo Norte...again. Which comes with beans, grilled onions, silky smooth guacamole, bone marrow and four quesadillas. Yes 4! My nephew ordered a burger from Smash Bacon. When I looked over, it was already gone. I didnt even see him eat it. We also ordered some fresh juices from Ping Yang. We got the pineapple and also the raspberry juice. Yum! So refreshing. Roger's Marisco was a hit as well, with their shrimp ceviche. Huge portion! Beyond the incredible food, the service was impeccable. Everyone was knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive, showcasing each dish with a passion that enhanced our appreciation. Parking is tough since this is in National City, so I highly suggest coming here early to secure a spot. This food hall had a decent selection of cuisines, but some were overlapping. There's a Mexican brunch place that's attached, a small curiosities shop inside, and a bar. Aside from that, you have a selection of Mexican, Japanese, American, Thai, and Italian. Prices are what you typically would expect at a food hall, but I don't think the quality of the food justified the inflated prices. The group I went with each chose a different place to eat and we weren't exactly satisfied. Overall, it was fun to try out. I love that it's local and brings local eateries to a central place, but the quality of food needs to improve to justify me coming back and spending more than the food is worth. read more

I finally got around to going to Market on 8th. It's like an upscale food court, like at the mall, with not very much room. I settled on a pizza and down at one of the public picnic tables to wait. As I was sitting there a young woman came striding in. I said to myself, "I did not just see that." A few minutes later she walked back out of the food court. This time I was really, really sure that, yes that is what I'd seen. She had no seat to the back of her pants! Basically she was naked in the back. Maybe she had a pair of those string underwear on. The string being invisible. Would I recommend Market on 8th? The vendors were all friendly. The tacos I got were very tasty. Yes, if you're looking for street vender tacos, good pizza or a hamburger. Café Alessie has left the market and now Casa Ocho has moved in. It's one of the first shops you see once you set foot inside the market. The staff who took my order was friendly and recommended the coconut milk for the banana pudding matcha I had recommended. Because of the banana pudding name, I expected more sweetness and some kind of pudding/cold foam layer, but I got neither. When I had my first sip, I thought maybe I didn't mix it well, but that wasn't true because it tasted watered down and the color also wasn't a nice dark green as one expects. My friend had ordered their strawberry matcha and she said that instead of a whisk, it looked like the matcha was prepared with one of those handheld frothers. Very disappointing for sure, I would look for matcha elsewhere :( read more

On our trip to SD, wifey wanted to check this food hall. The vibe is chill inviting. Lots of great options. We wanted mariscos and so we went with that. Didn't disappoint at all. The bar in the venue served up good micheladas from a Caguama. Can't say no to that. Also had some noodles from the place next to mariscos joint it also was very good. There's so many options you can choose such as Mexican, Asian, sea food, hamburgers, pizza, you name it, they have it. The only thing is that they aren't well known or franchised food vendors. The prices were a bit on the high side for what you get and quality. I paid almost $24 for a pad thai bowl and a boba drink which was slightly below average. Parking is really hard to find during lunch/dinner hours. Please take your time to find parking. I had to park 2 blocks down. The yelp page showed a few restaurants that no longer exist. There was 1 bar, 1 thai, 1 japanese, 1 sushi, 1 pizza, 1 filipino, and the rest were competing mexican restaurants. The lack of variety here was not worth the struggle to find parking. A great food hall in the heart of National City with a variety of food stalls and plenty of seating and even a beer bar. I've tried most of the vendors here and I've had good experiences at all of them and the food has been tasty at each one. They have some unique vendors that you can't find elsewhere in the San Diego area too and there are currently several empty stalls but I found out that they are being filled up soon. My current favorites here are Butcher's Plate and Cafe Indo. There is a food stall for everyone here and and it's pretty busy and lively on the weekends and a bit more casual and relaxed on the weekdays. If you are near National City, I recommend coming here to try the various food vendors here or if you want to hangout with friends or even study/do work. read more

The place is nice, good amount of seating and clean. The food options are not allot but still decent amount. We tried the tostilocos and some other Mexican food snacks. The ladies making the tostilocos looked like chickens without a head, they literally forgot my order. After 20 minutes I had to go up and remind them I had not received it. On top of that the tostilocos were mediocre and priced at $10 for a tiny amount. We then decided to try the tacos, I ordered queso birria, adobada, carne asada and a pineapple water. Well, to start with each taco was almost $5 bucks and they were tiny, not even a handmade tortilla. The worst thing is that they tasted terrible, probably some of the worst tacos I ever had. The pineapple water didn't really taste like pineapple and it was too sweet. Also, their customer service is non existent. We will not be back here, waste of time and money. read more

First time at this place. I ended up in National City by pure coincidence. Loved the design and space. I dead they do events at night and some bazaars certain Sundays. I thought the place was brand new as I saw it was not full. However I later read that it has been running for some years now but there are still not all spots covered. I like the idea of this type of markets but some like the mixed combined smells overall. Absolutely love this market, they have a selection of beers on tap with different types of restaurants to meet everyone's needs. My family loves coming here because they have everything from pizza, tacos, sushi, mariscos, Thai, burgers, and filipino food. Finding seating is usually pretty easy. This is the taco shop Tacos El Ocho inside market on 8th. They have specials EVERY WEEK. We got the ribeye for only $20.99 such a score! And so delicious. It came with a piece of bone marrow and two quesadillas a side of refried beans and a side of guacamole. The service is so amazing! They are so nice and welcoming and don't hesitate to ask if we need anything! A must try place.
