By far my favorite and most authentic Mexican brunch I've had! I get the chicken sopes and they're amazing. I ventured out this time and got a taco de vapor de papas. It was soft, juicy, and flavorful! It paired well with the horchata that is rich! This time I went with a larger party, which was a little bit of a longer wait. This little shop has been on my list for quite awhile. I'm glad I checked it off my list. Danny Boy's is located in a strip mall with Manolo's, a laundry mat, karaoke bar, and Denny's. There are a few tables inside for a sit down meal, or order to go. This morning the café was filled with both types of customers. We decided to eat in. The hostess was very welcoming and offered us menus and water to drink. The vibe here is casual and warm. The regulars and newcomers were shown the same friendly hellos, thank yous, and goodbyes. Our two breakfast burritos came out piping hot, and very tasty, too! I asked for the hot sauces to try, both red and green. They were both good. Although I thought I was going to place another order to go, I was full after eating only half of my burrito. We left satisfied and plan on coming back. read more

Came across Danny Boy's as we were looking for a torta spot and decided to try them out. We came by Saturday around 12 pm and it wasn't too crowded. The restaurant is located in a strip mall with plenty of parking. The space itself isn't that big with 6-7 tables. We shared the special breakfast torta (asked for it to be made vegetarian) for $14.95 as well as a mini potato and egg breakfast burrito for $5.95. Both the torta and the mini burrito were good but not amazing. My main complaint is that both were on the bland side, perhaps because they usually rely on meat to provide flavor. We also didn't realize that the torta came with a side of potatoes, so between the potatoes in the torta itself, on the side, and in the breakfast burrito, it was a LOT of potatoes. Have to update about this place. In the previous review I referenced how the customer service wasn't good. Yesterday 11/29/2025 I went with family. They open at 8am. At 8am we left our car and headed towards the door. At 8:02am the younger woman came to unlock the door. Never acknowledged that we were there, never said hello, nothing. Seemed bothered that a large party were at the door at the beginning of her shift. She finished unlocking the door, turned around, and returned back to the kitchen. We didn't feel welcomed. It was just terrible customer service. We left without saying nothing and spend $130 at nearby direct local competitor. I won't be returning. You lost a customer who has come here for the last 2 years, telling family and friends about this place. This place has been on my radar for a minute. Finally I was able to come Saturday morning. The hubby loved the chilaquiles. Nice crunchy tortilla full of flavor. There serving sizes are large enough to share. I wanted to taste a mini machaca burrito it was NOT mini. There mini is regular size. Machaca was full of flavor and lots of cheese. My tacos al vapor were just like the ones across the border. Fantasic!! I got beef and potato maybe just a lil more potato then beef, but nevertheless still good. Came here on Father's Day after bookmarking it on Yelp. It's a small little cafe with about four tables inside. So it can get pretty tight & I'm sure there's wait times when it gets busy. Luckily for us we were just able to walk in & sit down. No one greeted us or sat us. Our table was a bit dirty but the waitress came with a towel to wipe it down. We ordered quickly & our food came out quickly. The reason for the 4 stars is due to the food temperature. Everything came out quick, but nothing was hot. Not even the consomé. Aside from that, everything else was delicious! We would definitely dine at this establishment again. There was a delay in getting our check. Waiting about 10mins & was just sitting there waiting from someone to come out from the kitchen. Waitress passed us 1-2xs but didn't pay attention that we were finished. Tried making it obvious but she was oblivious. So we had to flag her down. Lol. Keep in mind, the place is not big. Like 10 steps from front door to cash register. Lots of parking. My husband and I came down to Chula Vista for the weekend and made a stop for a late brunch here at Danny Boy's. It was definitely an experience. We came in at about 12:30 on a Sunday, and there were a couple tables available. The interior of the restaurant is pretty tight, with about six tables and a strip of counter. There were two servers and the service was pretty informal -- we weren't ready to order immediately, so as we looked over the menu our server understandably vanished on us. Several minutes passed by and we were ready and waiting, looking around to see if we could spot her -- and my husband saw she went on a break and was eating on the other side of the room. Maybe it was just our luck but there was a lot of waiting done. We eventually (time moves super slowly when you're hungry) ordered a taco al vapor with carne con papa, the special breakfast torta, and the spicy red stacked chilaquiles: Tacos Al Vapor - The taco came first and was delicious; the tortilla was thick and super fresh and the filling was....just potato. The server must have misheard me. It was also missing the escabeche. And we had no utensils or napkins. Ahhhhh! But then the torta and the chilaquiles arrived to save the day, along with forks, a couple of napkins, and some hot sauce: Special Breakfast Torta - a massive glorious pile of protein sandwiched between their soft and toasty telera roll; chorizo, jamon, tocino bound by scrambled eggs, with a healthy helping of avocado, crema, and queso fresco. It was delicious. Spicy Red Stacked Chilaquiles - aka red stacked chilaquiles, there was not a ton of heat to these but they were easily some of the best chilaquiles I have ever had (and I am someone who has had their fair share of chilaquiles). Slightly crispy fried tortilla smothered in a warm and rich sauce is like a hug; the fried eggs, avocado, and generous sprinkling of queso fresco take it to the next level. I had zero shame mopping up the leftover sauce with my slice of telera. TLDR: the food is amazing (especially at brunch), the service was questionable. I have always loved this place. I live down the street. I have recommended it many times. We order takeout often. I rave to everyone how they need to try their chilaquiles! I have written social media I have posted on Reddit. I have told all my friends. My father was in town and I was excited for him to try it. I usually go with adults however today I had my five-year-old daughter with me. She does not eat spicy food and can be a little picky during breakfast. They do not have a children's menu, nor smaller options for kids. My daughter really wanted a waffle. I tried to convince her to eat something else but she had her mind set. We had ordered our food so we felt stuck and I decided we could get a waffle to go for my daughter from Dennys so that we could enjoy our food and she could also eat. Once my dad came back I noticed a sign near the register that said no outside food. I genuinely did not notice this before as the sign was blocked from my view point. I tried to be as discreet as possible just trying to feed my daughter so we could eat and get out. We were at a corner table up against the wall. Immediately the cook came from the back and told us that we could not have outside food. I appreciate that she was following policy but as a mother who had no other options than to leave when my daughter had no options for food I felt so embarrassed being asked to leave. I had not even had a chance to take a bite of my food! I tried to explain they have no options for children and I really tried to get her to eat something on the menu and it was 1 waffle she would eat quickly but they explained this is "Mexican style" and it's not her policy but she needs to follow it. I wasn't sure if this comment was to point out that we were not Mexican, which is incorrect because my daughter is. I felt sick to my stomach and so embarrassed that I returned my food and asked for a box for my dads to go. It is a small dining room and the entire restaurant was staring at us. We got up to pay our bill and my father who always tips 20%+ on top of the bill did not tip as he could not fathom why they would lose paying customers for life over a waffle! Granted, I understand they have a NO outside food policy, however, I didn't see it and it's not like they missed much revenue. It was one waffle. If they added a waffle to their menu, I would've ordered from them. It's not like we went to Taco Bell and brought it over to Danny Boys. Overall, my food has always been great here and the service has been excellent however with the uptick of tourism in the area and people coming out of town that may have children with them I want them to know that this is not a child friendly place!!! Unless your child is used to eating rolled up burritos for breakfast or lunch. I want to reiterate this is NOT a child friendly place and I will NO longer be supporting their business. If you have kids, get it to go or check the menu before you arrive !!!!
