Whenever I used to crave some good ol' Southern style cooking, I would order food from Market on South (formerly known as Dixie Dharma). They were early in the creative cuisine for the vegan food scene in Orlando and I was happy to find them when I did. This restaurant is always a great place to enjoy quality vegan entrees, desserts, and snacks. You can sit inside the restaurant, out front near their garden, or out back under a beautiful shady oak tree and string lights. When I mentioned it to the gentleman at the counter, his response was simply "oh, I'm sorry," said in a dismissive, "too bad" manner, with no offer to replace it or make it right. With new restaurants on the block it's time for an update! It's currently Vegan Scoops and A Lo Vegano at Market on South, and both places were phenomenal. I'd already tried Vegan scoops at a food fair and enjoyed it, and it was the same this time. Their chocolate chip cookie was also so rich and gooey heated up. I think I've found my new go-to place for garlic knots at A lo vegano! Check it out for some badass vegan Cuban food. For $21 you can get a full platter with your choice of 2 proteins and 2 sides. I got the garlic shrimp and eggs for the protein and the garlic knots and yuca for the sides. One thing that is truly unique are the sunny side up eggs which tasted amazing and were runny like the real deal. The seasoning was outstanding across the board. Did I mention the garlic knots were to die for? The yuca was topped with pickled onions which were a bit too sour for my taste, but it worked well with the bland yuca. My omnivore friend got the garlic shrimp pasta, and finished all the shrimp but the pasta portion size was more than expected so he couldn't finish the rest. I really enjoyed the seasoning on the shrimp, but the texture was definitely different, having had regular shrimp in the past. Overall Market on South is a place I would take visiting friends and family as another place offering fantastic flavorful food and sweet treats that can be enjoyed by everyone! read more

What an amazing experience this place is, from the moment you walk in you feel welcome. My daughter is gluten free and no dairy and we just found the perfect spot for us in Orlando. This place is insanely good! Everything is vegan, I tried the alfredo pasta with vegan chicken and garlic knot, and I had a brownie for dessert. I had a mango Jarrito for my drink. The alfredo pasta was so creamy and decadent, exactly how I like my alfredo pasta. The garlic knot was garlicky and soft. The vegan chicken tasted like a shredded chicken texture and was well-seasoned. It was also a large portion and I had enough to take home for a great separate dinner. The brownie was so chocolatey and delicious! The customer service was great, they were helpful with answering all my questions. The place itself is very chill, they have a lot of seating available. I've been to Market on South back when it was different and I enjoyed it. I tried to come back and it's not the same. It's super confusing now. I guess there's 4 different businesses but you basically order from the same area. As soon as you walk in, there's the POS systems. You have to the right, the ppl making coffee from the coffee menu, there's more of a soul food menu, there's a Cuban menu that you order off a self system and then vegan ice cream to the left. It is a bit confusing. The parking lot is tough to pull into bc there's pot holes and flooding. I love that it's all vegan but I dislike how it changed. It is kinda like a hall of food places but it's weird bc you order at the same counter from 3 different ppl and/or a system if you want to try the different options. read more

First time here for food and coffee. The chicken empanada had good flavor but a tad bit oily. We also purchased iced lattes, cappuccinos, and a cafe con leche that were 5/10. Very strong coffee. Dharma's Southern Kitchen and Valhalla Bakery. Dharma's vegan take on popular southern cuisine is outstanding. Their potato salad is one of the best, and my favorite is their TLT (tempeh lettuce tomato). Valhalla has a fantastic variety of vegan desserts. Stopped in for lunch yesterday to try Vegan Coops but I guess the food vendor is A LO VEGANO so we ordered from the kiosk, which was a very intimidating experience with a line of people behind me as I tried ordering and didn't know what to get. There's no service here and it took forever to get our food. I ordered for dine in but got my food in a to-go box 30 mins later after I had to check in to see what was going on. Not sure I made a good food choice this time because I definitely didn't feel like my meal was worth $18 + another $18 in drinks and treats. The cookie puck was just that, a hard a$$ puck of chocolate chip cookie with super sweet thick frosting and sprinkles on top. Toddler wouldn't eat it so we had to lol the macaroon was alright but I wouldn't pay $4 for another one. The food that finally came out was completely drenched in oil and full of salt. All I could taste on the plant-based sunny side up eggs was the sulfurous black salt they overused. The yuca was good but not $5 for a side. Overall wasn't impressed at all by this experience but apparently other people are because I was surprised to see a line out the door so business is good. Hopefully this was just a bad choice and bad luck on my part. If I lived in the area, I would probably give it a try again. read more

I stopped in here while my car was being worked on nearby. They had a seasonal Galentines Day menu so I tried a latte that was made with cereal milk (oops all berries captain crunch). I haven't visited in a while so the inside decor has changed but still very cozy. I was taken aback at the $9 cost of my drink. We ordered two juice drinks -- mango and guava -- and a slice of vegan strawberry crunch cheesecake. The inside seating was quite crowded for a Sunday afternoon. We grabbed a picnic table outside since it was a nice day. My guava drink was delicious, as was the cheesecake. As we sat outside enjoying our afternoon treat, airplanes kept flying very low overhead on their way to landing at the Orlando Executive Airport. It was kind of cool to see them. This was absolutely delicious and the picture doesn't even do it any justice. Any dessert that comes warm with cold ice cream is always a yummy treat oh my goodness. This specific dessert was the "Churro cake hot plate" its description is a warm soft Churro Cake topped with Vanilla Bean Ice cream, Spiced Brown Sugar Glaze and Organic cinnamon. We really enjoyed this place today. Everyone got something different. I received a buffalo chicken sandwich with Aoli sauce and it was phenomenal! There was a chipotle chicken sandwich, that was spicy, tastes like there is bitch'n sauce on it, with a lil extra kick. The Apple pie puff pastry crust with Apple pie filling. 4/5 for Market on South, but 3/5 for Dharma. The vegan desserts at Market on South are GREAT. I got the rose pistachio bar and this cute little cactus desert dessert (heh) as shown in the pictures! They were a little on the sweet side so they're great with a cup of tea or coffee. My parents loved them! On the other hand, I've tried really really hard to like Dharma. I've been to the Market on South location twice and the Henry's Depot location twice. I've tried several different items (DFC, Pimento sandwich special, Nashville hawt, etc.) and I've found them just okay. They're really expensive for what they are and the taste is only okay. Of what I've tried, sandwiches are definitely the way forward. DFC was very dry, I didn't really enjoy it. The texture of the vegan pimento cheese is a little gritty/grainy as well. If you have to come here, I would recommend getting sandwiches that have slaw in them and no vegan cheese (fried green tomato sandwich, etc.) That being said, I think Winter Park Biscuit Co is a better vegan place for lunch. Served drizzled upon perfectly crispy roasted potato squares. They didn't skip a beat when making that bbq jackfruit. So many flavor profiles perfectly wrapped inside a tortilla. My daughter is a vegan and this is her fave place to get grub. She is a big fan of the DFC bowl. The chicken is so delish. The sides are yum.. but the only thing that is a bit strange is the Mac and cheese. Since this is all vegan, I know that they have to do a huge sub for cheese. New vendors now (before it was Valhalla Bakery & Dharma Kitchen). There's 4 new vendors, Vegan Hispanic food, Vegan Scoops, Soul Food, & a coffee vendor. However, I feel the space is quite small. My family & I haven't come to Market on South since it's changed. We decided to go on Labor Day before our drive back home. I figured because it's a holiday it was a bit more crowded. Unfortunately it felt disorganized, overwhelming, & chaotic. Many people were confused as to where to stand in line for the different vendors, many people ended up skipping others, and there wasn't quite the space for the crowd there that day. The service was as good as can be as they were busy and really only had one person attending each vendor spot. As far as the food, there were a few mix ups with order numbers but once we got our food, my family really enjoyed it. read more

I'm not sure if people here are reviewing the bakery (Valhalla) the restaurant (Dixie Dharma) or the bar (which I did not see, but is in the description of this place). So I'll consider this interview for interior. Walking in is like of like walking into a corner store that serves food and has bakery items. There's some tables set up and a variety of chair types. There's an area with stuff for sale that is a little out of place and may be better served with more tables or spacing them out a bit more. As a line formed, I can see where it might get hectic finding a place to eat the delicious food. As a line forms, there's also really nowhere for it to go other than out the door. If you're used to other markets (East End Market, Hourglass Social House), it's a little different as all transactions appear to happen at the same register. So if everyone is ordering from Dixie Dharma and you just wanted a donut, you'd be in the same line. This can be a plus if you wanted something from both places, but a drawback if you were looking for a quick sweet fix. On this visit, I ordered from Dixie Dharma and the food was excellent. The pastries looked amazing but we were stuffed from the food. If you're vegan, vegetarian, or just experimenting, add this place to your list of things to try in Orlando. Just be aware it's not as big or as inviting as some of the other places in town. It could use an expansion and/or a remodel. I will be back as Dixie Dharma was amazing. read more

Super hipster in more than one way. I loved being here. I came here to escape and try something new. As a new grad I am realizing more every day that I have no idea wtf I am supposed to do with actual free time. So I came here with a book transforming into my pretentious pre-college self. I got right in with the atmosphere. A very relaxing spot with a decent front patio harboring picnic tables for those with bigger groups. They cater equally to those who came seeking an intimate dive to share hand crafted vegan dishes. Over all, an amazing little place. BEWARE OF HARASSMENT AND DISRESPECT!!Terrible and degrading customer service from "Soulicious Vegan"/ "A Lo Vegano" ... I've never felt so degraded and uncomfortable as a customer and a woman in an establishment. The two men behind the counter completely ruined our experience and were SO disrespectful and rude. As soon as I walk in, the guy working is calling me out saying I'm "disrespectful" for walking in with a Iced Latte that I bought from another place.... He kept repeatedly saying "the disrespect, the disrespect, the disrespect" and it was not a joke, they were being dead serious. Both men kept repeatedly harassing me saying that they sell coffee here, in front of everyone making me feel like I was a terrible person because I got a coffee from somewhere else. If they only knew I drove 2 hours to get here to eat and support this establishment.. then, the guy "accidentally" drops our to go order on the ground and didn't even apologize. THEN before we walk out with our food, they say "Anyone who walks in with sunglasses inside can't be trusted"... WOW. Who the hell is that comfortable being THAT rude to people let alone someone running a restaurant? Just know after this, I'll NEVER be back.
