Quick and delicious. I wish employees in the same building received a small discount of some sort.

You like traditional goto, must have, sandwich from Pittsburgh? If you do, this place is for you…read more This place was started by Joe Primanti in 1933 to feed shift workers from the local warehouses (coal and iron) and railroads. They are known for big sandwiches which now includes fries and cole slaw. The sandwiches provided value to workers...who were looking for a place to feed themselves to keep their energy up for a long shift. When you sit at the bar and you can only imagine the workers that sat here to feed themselves with what little they had. They found a sandwich between two pieces of soft Italian bread with a good balance of meat, cheese, cole slaw and fries...think energy and value. The history here is real and intense. Would I rate this as a culinary destination? Not particularly but I would say it's a must see to be part of US history as the town righted itself and came to life. The sandwich? I had the pastrami with cole slaw, egg, fries and tomato on Italian bread. Remarkably, the sandwich was light...despite it sounding heavy. The cabbage and tomatoes bring a great balance to the sandwich which makes it messy and remarkably light. Be prepared to get messy..so eat fast! I am probably talking too much about the sandwich...just go try it. The food is probably a 3.5 but it gets the extra .5 for the amazing history there. The service was great...well educated on the product, accommodating in every way. If you are in Pittsburgh, this is a must try.

I had to go across the street to use the restroom because theirs were nasty. It required going down a steep set of stairs, and the women's bathroom floor was wet. There was also a bucket catching brown water dripping from somewhere, which was pretty concerning. The wings and onion rings were just average and didn't really stand out. There are newer locations of this restaurant that I'd recommend instead. Based on my experience, you'll likely have a much better overall visit at one of those locations

The pastrami and cheese is very solid, especially for $10, where you get a fair amount of meat and fries. Of course, most of it is coleslaw, but again for the price, I'm not surprised. Overall, maybe it's overrated but it's certainly worth going to and getting a pretty good bang for your buck, plus the service was really amazing too, fun experience!

You have to try one of the signature sandwiches (various meats topped with coleslaw and fries and amazing, thick bread). Something to note is that this isn't a creamy coleslaw. In fact, on its own it doesn't have much flavor (mostly just pepper) but it somehow pairs well with the sandwich. The downside to this location is that they aren't exactly the best at table turnover/cleaning tables and the restaurant itself doesn't feel spotless (like some other locations do). But in a way, it kind of adds to the vibe of the place. There are several parking garages and also on street parking nearby. Nice that it has late hours most evenings (since a lot of downtown restaurants seem to close fairly early). Definitely worth a visit.

Pittsburgh Sandwich Society runs a kitchen out of Strange Roots Experiential Ale which is a small locally-owned distillery. Once you enter, you'll scan a QR code to order online. Don't waste time like me waiting for a server lol. I ordered the In-An-Aht burger which features spring mix, their society sauce, American cheese and tomato. The burger was SO GOOD. All the ingredients had the perfect portions and came together beautifully. It was a perfect medium-well cook. The fries are hand cut and delicious. My only distaste was that fries were veryyyyy salty. +Customer service was amazing! +Limited Free Parking out front and in a nearby alley. +Plenty of tables for dine-in +Free boardgames to play +Beautiful patio with plenty seating I'm excited to return for the patio in the summer when I return to PA. I hope you enjoy!

They don't open until 4, but you can place orders online hours before then. Picked up food around 4:20. By time we got home, the fish maintained its crispness. I was actually quite impressed with how well it was prepared. Nice and flaky but didn't fall apart. The bun it comes on is well proportion with the fish. The only thing I could've went without, was the macaroni salad topped on the fish. However, the food here never disappoints. I'll be back.

It's a proper neighborhood butcher shop on Butler Street, the kind of place that had mostly disappeared around here. They do whole animal butchery with meat sourced from local Pennsylvania farms, and you can feel how much the folks working there care about what they're doing. It's not a huge space, just a display case full of cuts, a wall of house made goods, and a small sandwich menu, but that's part of the charm. The staff were friendly and happy to point me in the right direction. The sandwiches are what really got me though. The smash burger is fantastic, a double patty on a challah bun with that special sauce, and you can actually taste the quality of the beef, which makes sense given the whole operation is built around good meat. I also grabbed some of their house made pastrami, and it did not disappoint, tender and full of flavor. Knowing everything is made in house, right down to the bacon and sausages, makes it even better. If you live nearby and don't have a butcher yet, this is the one.

Love the decor in the shop. There were many prepared food options in the fridge, as well as various cuts of meat/preparations of it. We got two sandwiches, the cheesesteak and the marbella. I dont think we ended up with the correct order because we didn't end up with a cheesesteak, but did not realize until we got home. I'm positive that if I went back to the shop they would've remedied the situation, but I didn't feel it was necessary! The sandwich we did end up with was good as well, unsure which one it was though. Very fair prices, and our dog was so happy we brought him home a bone as well! Looking forward to coming back and trying everything they have to offer.

We chose to go here instead of making the drive to Chick Fil A on McKnight Road for milkshakes. My daughter & I noticed 1 worker handling food with no gloves on, pulling her hair back to a bun then proceeded to handle the food without 1. Not washing her hands after she handled the food and 2. not putting gloves on to handle the food. I politely asked the employee, do you wear gloves to make milkshakes. She responded, yes we do and she was very polite about it. The other worker came and asked her what I said and she told her. The other worker came to us with MAJOR attitude taking our milkshake orders. She proceeded to say to her co-worker, please pull my hair back because I don't want to hear anyone BITCHING about it. My daughter said, Ma'am, my mom just asked if you wore gloves because she was handling food, she pulled her hair up and then she handled food again without washing her hands nor did she have gloves on. The young lady became extremely upset and shouted.....I AM NOT TALKING TO YOU. At this point, both my daughter and I were shocked. The conversation became heated because we were explaining we asked a simple question and she was very upset, uprupt and rude about how she responded to the situation. I then asked for the manager, she stated she was the manager. I said can I have a conversation with you. She stated 'no you cannot' I am done with it. I asked her, how can you not address a issue that needs to be addressed. She stated again, I'm done talking about it (VERY RUDELY). From the time she started making the milkshakes her attitude was off. And boy, from the taste of the shakes you can tell. They were not good and extremely watered down. There is so much more to this encounter. Such as shame. So much for NOT going to Chick Fil A. We will take the drive the next time. Manager could use managering skills. I'm still so upset.

The papas were seasoned phenomenally and even as takeout potatoes held up probably as good as they would've been fresh! The chimi sauce so flavorful The not great: Coliflor- cauliflower absorbs so much flavor, and I was so excited to try it because of that. However, their version was horribly underseasoned, though cooked really well! The eggplant crema had no flavor. I poured the chimi over it to save it, but we still didn't finish it. The sandwich- highest rated sandwich, but... The roll was soft, and the caramelized onions were tasty. That's where it stopped for me. The beef was dry, didn't have the charred peppers on it (paid extra for), there were three slivers of onion, and I couldn't taste either of the sauces. I know if I would've been able to give them the opportunity to fix what I wasn't a fan of, they would have. Unfortunately, with this being a pickup order, they were not really given that chance. Not horrible, but not amazing. Will definitely try again!
