I came here based on a friend's recommendation and tried the Build-Your-Own Bowl. I was amazed by how fresh all of the toppings were. There are so many ingredients to choose from that you can truly build a nutrient-dense meal that's customized exactly how you like it. Even though the bowl doesn't look huge at first, they really pack it full, and it ended up being much more filling than I expected. I also appreciated the variety of dressings, although I found the bowl so flavorful on its own that I didn't even need mine. I ended up saving the dressing to use with another meal later. I've only been here once, so I can't say too much yet, but my first impression was excellent. The restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was welcoming, and the customer service was great. If you're looking for a healthy meal that's both satisfying and packed with fresh ingredients, this is definitely worth trying. I haven't been here enough to make a fair comparison to Roots Natural Kitchen, but the concepts are similar. Hello Bistro seems to offer even more topping options, while Roots feels a little more focused on grain bowls. My favorite additions were the roasted beets and goat cheese, but honestly, there are so many combinations that you could come back several times and have a completely different bowl each visit. Considering how generous they are with the toppings, I think it's a really good value. read more

This place is right near my office in central Oakland so I have always wanted to try it out. I stopped in for a burger recently and unfortunately it was very underwhelming. The burger could have been from Wendy's for how small and generic the patties were and how soggy the bun was. It had a few sorry little slices of avocado and some chopped red onion; again, just not much to get excited about. The fries were fine, though very skinny. Service was low-key and my food was ready quickly; in general this is good, but it added to my sense that the burger was glorified fast food. The restaurant has lots of seating. read more

If you're trying to eat healthy, this is the place to go. Great price and you can customize the salad the way that you want with a great portion side. You can order in line or if it's too long (usually it's not), they have this ordering machine where you can orders on there instead. Hello Bistro used to be my go to lunch spot as a Point Park college student. I have visited the Oakland location hundreds of times, and recently went back for the first time in probably 8 years. After a day at the museum, we were in the mood for salads for lunch. I suggested Hello Bistro and I was glad to see they were still open. There was only one employee working, and he did a great job. We were the only ones there when we arrived in the middle of the day, but more people came as we were eating. I did my typical build your own salad bowl plus salmon, and my dad picked a premade salad. I love that the toppings are unlimited. The apple cider dressing is my favorite too. The salad bar area was stocked, but some of the ingredients like the tomatoes looked very out of season and sad. The roasted vegetables are my favorite. This is for the Upper Saint Clair location. I was extremely underwhelmed at the quality of this salad. I ordered romaine lettuce, and it appear that they use the really green, dry ends of the romaine stalk, which tastes terrible. The salad itself was very wet, so the croutons were soggy/disintegrating. The worst part was that I ordered it w shrimp and the shrimp tasted weirdly like salmon. The rest of the ingredients were chopped so small that I couldn't really tell what I was eating. I actually got a little nervous at eating the salmony shrimp so I tossed the whole thing $20 for a salad I couldn't stomach is a lot to ask in this days economy. I'll never go back. read more

Walked to this shop while staying in a near by hotel in the city. We arrived around. 8pm on a weekday and there were few patrons inside. The staff was friendly and provided recommendations on items to try since it was our first time visiting. I opted for a turkey burger with fries and my mother ordered a salad. The food came out quickly. When I took the first bite of my turkey burger I was hooked. The burger was juicy and flavorful. I actually felt like I might have been eating beef it was so good!! My moms salad was massive. You could easily eat the salad for two meals. I did not try the salad, but my mom said it was tasty. I am glad we found this spot. First time ordering on the suggestion of a coworker who likes this place (usually goes to monroeville location). got the Build your own salad and chicken noodle soup, delivered by Grub Hub. Never again.Soup was way too salty (when will restaurants learn, folks can ADD their own salt...you cant take it out once the food is ruined.) Salad was supposed to be mixed greens and spinach/kale combo. The greens were mostly chopped so small it was hard to tell what it was, but I noticed a lot of iceburg lettuce, which I hate. Tiny chunks of flavorless tomatoes (they should be at their peak freshness right now!), a few bland artichokes, small mozzarella balls...in other words, bland and mushy with a few nice pieces of red pepper. For $25 you can get a great steak or grilled chicken salad at Tessaro's in Bloomfield! Should always go with local versus chains. Waste of money. read more

Well...I usually like Hello Bistro. It's a fun spinoff and really enjoy the USC location. The Oakland location is....dirty. All the way through. At 6pm the place was fairly empty, and the trash was overflowing. The salad bar had not been cleaned up all day, apparently. My burger had tons of "char". Hard, black particles that you feel with every bite. Gross...and the result of a grill that has not been cleaned. The smell of the fry oil was that unmistakable odor of old oil. The conflicting ideology makes it hard for me to decide what the restaurant is trying to do, as I'm okay with a burger patty being more dry if they intentionally put less oil to make it healthier, but then when I get a bag of fries soaked in oil...I have to give up on my healthy intentions. Ordered online for lunch. Ready when they said. The pick up area is on the wall opposite the wall closest to the registers. Orders are on trays on the wall with the receipt attached. They write your first name and last name initial in black marker which makes it easier to see from a few feet away. I arrived 10 minutes earlier than my pick up time and my order appeared on the shelf 5 minutes later. Great timing considering the lunchtime rush. I wish I could put into words how much I love Hello Bistro. The soups are delicious and flavorful. I love the build your own salad (while also being grateful that a worker builds it for you since salad bars gross me out). Their burgers are fresh and definitely not those frozen patties most places use. They also have fresh cut fries which are a weakness of mine. The service is always friendly and fast. My favorite part is probably the soda dispenser that has old fashioned sodas. I'm a sucker for cream soda! Super busy during lunch time, packed with students. I have a lot of dietary restrictions these days and they were willing to talk through all of the ingredients of every mix-in I was interested in. On this particular visit my girls and I came for the burgers however. My wife and I both chose the Original E'nP Superburger with fries and our daughter chose the Mushroom & Onion Jack Burger with fries. A few minutes later our food was on the table. My wife and I's burgers were just as good as ever as they were always our go to's at Eat N' Park. The fries were delicious also. Our daughter was quiet the whole time so I take it she enjoyed her burger as well! It's nice to have a different option for burgers other than Burger King or Wendy's. Seriously soooo many toppings to choose from. I had a hard time passing up any of them. I also ordered a kids meal for my daughter- grilled cheese, fries, milk and a smiley cookie for $5. Yes $5!!!! Seriously such a good deal. We came in their off peak season since Pitt students were gone for the summer. With that said there was no wait to order and parking was easy. All a plus. One thing I thought was strange was the fact that they have a family restroom but no high chairs. I get this is smack in the middle of college town but there were several other families there and you made a point to have a family restroom. There should be high chairs.
