We had a great Mother's Day lunch at Marks today! I ordered the pulled pork dinner with corn on the cob and green beans. Their pork cones topped with pickles onions and their signature mustard based bbq. I don't care for pickle and onion so I have them leave it off. The fried corn on the cob is amazing! Today was a real disappointment at Mark's. We eat there regularly and usually it is a good place to go to eat BQ. Today I ordered a 6 piece rib platter, fries and slaw. Not an unusual or complicated order. My server brought me, after a few minutes, the fries and slaw, but no ribs. They weren't "ready" yet to serve. What!?! My wife had received her full meal and I told her to eat. No one wants to eat part of their meal before the rest of it arrives, and no meal should ever be served in parts like Mark's attempted to today. A total failure on their part, imho. When they finally brought the ribs (10-12 minutes later) I asked for a to-go box and just took them home. I ate virtually nothing of what they had brought me, and to their credit they did comp my order (as they should have). Mark's usually does ok but today was a BIG ZERO. Average BBQ. This place has been open for a few years and I've been her 3-4 times. The barbecue is very average and their brand name sauce isn't very good. Some of their sides are good though, so they have that going for them. It's a small place but probably just the right size, it's never too crowded. The staff are nice and friendly but that can't make up for their barbecue. It's that SE kind of barbecue, which is big on pulled pork. Yeah, yeah, I know around here that's "real" barbecue. Not a fan. I do like pork ribs though, but even their pork ribs aren't good. Kind of tough and bland. That would be okay if their sauce was good. They have pulled chicken. But why though... I'm more of a Texas barbecue with brisket, beef ribs. They do have brisket. It is just as tough and dry as their other meats. There was very little fat on their brisket, and as we all know that's where the flavor comes from and makes everything better. Don't plan on coming back. If the guy with smoker is down the street, you're better off stopping there for some tender juicy flavor packed barbecue. read more

I would give a zero but that is not an option. Dined here tonight and my pulled pork sandwich and my daughters kids pork sandwich was both trash meat. Literally the burnt end of a pork butt and a ton of fat. They sat food down and 20min passed and still not a single employee stopped or asked why both sandwiches were sitting at end of table. Waitress was rude and inattentive. Manager came over and didn't deny the food was garbage or the fact that she walked past twice and saw the untouched food. Literally spent an hour there and left starving....will never return. Stay away, rude staff, horrible quality, and management is awful. Had dinner at Mark's this past Tuesday night while "glamping" at Crossroads Campground. The restaurant is doing a nice job with COVID restrictions. Service was swift and friendly. Had sampler plates. Honey chicken wings and potato salad were my favorites. Hubby really liked the ribs. Only reason for not giving them a 5 star is the food was warm enough, but not hot. This is your classic bbq place. Great selection of pork, beef, and chicken meat dishes. Sides are out of this world. Friendly staff and clean, appealing restaurant. The only thing I didn't like was their original bbq sauce. I liked the RED BBQ sauce better. But all the food tasted great. The southern hospitality and service was superb! The atmosphere is inviting for families, small groups and large. The food was amazing and mouth watering. Let me start off by saying I might have given a four star rating but the fifth is to whittle away at the low ratings from people whose complaints include their straw wrappers not being removed from the table in a timely enough fashion. It is a friggin' BBQ place for god sakes! Ok on to the review: We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server (Autumn) was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. My girlfriend (writing this on her account) got Honeywings, sweet potato fries, and a side salad. And I got a pull pork sandwich, spicy fries, and coleslaw. I tried some of everything except her salad and everything was wonderful. My only slight complaint was my sandwich was a little on the dry side as it came to the table. But that is what the three bottles of delicious sauces were for. Her wings were the best I have ever eaten anywhere and so were her sweet potato fries. The maple sugar on them was wonderful. I can't wait to go back and try other things I saw on the menu. It was a lot of food for the price. As others have stated in their reviews a manager came out to talk to us and upon finding out it was our first time there we were each given a piece of pie. We were also given a card good for 15% off any visits within the next month and a bottle of their BBQ sauce. I have been to better restaurants but it was less food for more money and it was further away. I've lived numerous states and I've tasted a lot of BBQ during the last 20 years. Overall, the ribs were pretty good, pulled pork along with the chicken were slightly above average. I think what impressed me the most was the customer service. The manager came by and we got to talking and he offered me a free buttermilk pie and a bottle of BBQ sauce. So the first time the brisket and ribs were dry and the ribs were small. 2nd time, the brisket was dry again and pork was dry, had to drench them in sauce. The ribs were decent size, dry. The only reason they get 3 stars is the honey wings were good. For 17 bucks I would expect one of two things, bigger portions (they were small) or juicy excellent food. Lastly, sides were bland.
