Save your money and time. The baked clams casino tasted like the Philly Cheese Hot Pocket, the fish was overcooked and bland, and the service time is PAINFULLY slow. Hmmm this sure is a tough one! The food was scrumptious but I would expect nothing less from an establishment on the island. The service was average- they were out of many entrees, didn't bring extra dipping sauces, and the drinks were served without garnishes. Garnishes are so simple yet so effective and the lack caused flavorless drinks. My biggest disappointment year over year is that they stopped serving bread before the meal- a breadless facility?! Whose ever heard of such a thing. Can't forget to mention the ambiance: loud. For seniors, there's no need to wear your hearing aids because there's no way anyone's having a conversation while seated inside. Last but not least, the bathroom situation. It would have been a much better experience if the limping bartender wasn't high as a kite or drunk, it was hard to tell which, and busy socializing rather than waiting on customers. We came in to pick up a take out order and no one had a clue how to find our food or who was responsible for getting it to us and taking our payment. This was such a different experience from our past visits but it was so bad that we don't plan to return. We were getting dinner for our visiting family and honestly felt embarrassed that we had suggested The Marlin. Since our food sat so long waiting to be retrieved it was ice cold before we even left the restaurant. If you want a good takeout experience this definitely isn't the place to go! read more

We had not been to the Marlin for dinner in quite sometime and boy were we happy we stopped in. Our meals were excellent from soup to nuts. Our drinks were as well. Our waitress Jessica could not have been more accommodating and efficient. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere was bright and lively. We could hear ourselves talk and watch a football game on their large screen at the same time. Seems like a friendly neighborhood place with lots of locals enjoying themselves. First time since last summer and was very disappointed. The food has varied over the years but it currently really sucks. Pizza was basically inedible. One of the worst crusts on a pizza I have ever encountered. Was like stale matzoh. Even the seafood left a lot to be desired. I guess when you walk into a place in Beach Haven at 6 pm on a weekend night and 90% of the tables are empty you know why. The place is recently under new management, and the locals are grateful for it. The food we had (oysters, pizza, and mahi) were all very good, tasty, and reasonably priced. From what I understand, they have the only wood fired pizza oven on the island, which brings a unique option to Beach Haven. They still have their work cut out for them, hopefully updating and lightening up the interior eventually, but they are certainly taking steps in the right direction by improving the food service. read more

This establishment doesn't deserve 1 star because the experience was so bad. First off I want to say our server was wonderful, so this is no reflection on her. When we first sat down, we were told that if we want drinks that we should go to the bar ourselves to get them because the bartenders, which there were 3, would not fill the orders of the dining customers. That immediately made me furious....when I then asked to speak to the manager I was told that he doesn't speak with customers. WHAT!?!?! Are you kidding me??? It just so happens that he brought out one of our meals, when I asked if he was the manager he said he was, so I said "really? I didn't think you came out to speak to customers." His reply was that he'd been there since 7am and he was tired, what's the problem. I said my problem is your bartenders refuse to fill orders of your wait staff for the customers dining in? What's up with that? I saw him walk over to talk with them but who know's what he said. I have NEVER in my life had an experience like that. He needs to be fired and I'll never go back. read more

I gave these guys an absolutely scathing review 3-4 years ago. And told people to avoid at all costs. This summer we had some friends go and received good reports. Cautiously we went back and I have to say it's an entirely different operation then last time I was there. It is not cheap but the food was very good. Some Confusion in bringing food out as to which table it belonged to, but otherwise service was very good. Waitress was great. Huge place, good beer and drink selection. I was very pleased And we will go back. Moral of the story I guess is sometimes restaurants get the message that they need to improve their game in a big way. And these guys did. We had been here many years ago and did not like it but thought we would give it another chance. We figured The Marlin has been open for so long, maybe we just hit it on a bad day. However, we will not go back again. Coconut shrimp-tasteless, fried calamari- tough with mushy breading & bland sauce, stuffed flounder- bland. The pizza toppings were ok but the crust was too thick and just not good. Our server meant well but clearly had no training as waitstaff and there didn't look to be anyone supervising to help the cooks or the waitstaff expedite the orders. There was a bit of a disorganized vibe from the start with the hostess. I was told there would be a half hour wait. Over an hour later, after buying drinks and entertaining the kids, we finally got a table Drinks came in good time as welll as the appetizer but the wait for 4 simple entrees was ridiculous. The waiter, Fred, was personable and attentive but spent much of his time apologizing for the delay. Everyone got grumpy waiting for the food. These meals should be able to he made in 20 minutes. I walked into The Marlin at 7:15pm and left at roughly 10:15pm and only we spent 25 minutes actually eating. The food itself is pretty good actually but C'mon Man. read more

My wife and I had not been to The Marlin in a few years so we thought we would give it a try. When we entered there was a rather strange antiseptic aroma which I took to be from their admirable attempt at sanitizing for COVID. I can deal with that. I should have taken the rather sparse attendance as a foreboding omen, but we didn't. First, the gentleman who sat us informed us that there were three specials. When our waitress came we inquired about them and was told "salmon, pork chop, and (I honestly forget the third)." When asked how the salmon was prepared, she hemmed and hawed and finally said "broiled" As there was already a broiled salmon on the menu, it doesn't seemed to have been a special. We ordered the fried calamari appetizer. It was supposed to come with an aioli dip but came with marinara instead. When the waitress asked how it was I mentioned the calamari was not crisp and the sauce was wrong. Her only response was "Okay." She either did not relay our comments or no cared. For entrees my wife got the salmon and I got the shrimp fajitas. Both came with rice - totally different rice but both equally inedible. The salmon was mediocre at best, the shrimp were passable. In all, a very uninspired meal. We will not return. read more

We won't be going back again: slow service, overpriced food, and the chefs don't know the menu! Went to the Marlin around 6:00PM on Monday, August 18, 2014. We were a party of 4. The person at the host desk had to find another person to actually seat us. That person seemed unsure as to where to seat us then decided it would be best to push two tables together. Okay. It was not busy but it still took the waitress 10 minutes to visit our table for the first time and take our drink order. Instead of splurging on an expensive cocktail, I just decided to order water because by that time we all had plenty of time to look at the menu and we knew what we wanted. I can't imagine how long it would have taken if the place was busy - it really wasn't. The food is pricey for the quality - and the chefs must not know the menu too well. My girlfriend ordered the chicken parm with angel hair pasta - well that is what the menu said. But when it came out is was with fettuccine noodles instead. I questioned the waitress and she didn't know what the chicken was supposed to be served with. Great. My daughter ordered crab ravioli and even though the menu said the sauce had peas in it, there were none. But even more serious was the texture of the ravioli - seriously undercooked and doughy. Not worth $18 for sure. My niece ordered the shrimp pizza. It was okay but overcooked to the point that the pizza's edge was blackened all around. I ordered the Margherita pizza and it was just okay. The red sauce tasted canned and not at all homemade. The best part about the whole meal was the warm bread served before our food came out. With so many choices in the area we won't be giving the Marlin a second chance! read more

Here is the deal with the Marlin It's been in LBI forever. The food is really good - I'd say way better than supposed 4 and 5 Star "finer dining" on the island. Should have waited. 1st three things we ordered were unavailable?? 2 of those being cocktails off the menu!!! Baked clams were sub-par. Tasteless and dry. The New England clam chowder tasted like canned soup. The drinks $9 cocktail and and iced tea came in child sized glasses. We had to ask for bread with our entrees the crab ravioli and a steak salad... All other diners already had... 2 stars because the salad and bread were actually very good. I got the seafood and saffron pasta. It was the best seafood meal I have ever had in my entire life. I'm 55 not afraid to admit it. I've had my fair share. The lobster was tender, cooked perfect and sweet, the scallops melted in your mouth, the shrimp perfectly cooked and buttery just so wonderful! The pasta was flavorful without overpowering the seafood and the serving size was just the right amount not to over stuff you but allow you to enjoy the entire dish. Excellent job by the staff! I am logging in right now through the Marlins guest network. Kids eat free marketing has surprise restrictions. Long dark haired manager was not helpful at all and tried to send a fresh young manager to diffuse our rage.. We sat down and ordered the 2 lobster specials on Sunday, two entrees and kids meals during the allotted timeframe for free kids meals. We get charged for all meals. This would be fine if they had held to the advertisrment in the sandpaper, kids meals here are not expensive, but it's the principle of it. Manager says she normally works at the Ketch and doesn't know the system so they had to bring in special ops to correct it all. FAIL. Now two families of residents will not eat here or the Ketch for the next twenty years.... Young hostess and pony tailed server were kind and efficient and did nothing wrong here. This is management's issue - be explicit in the restrictions you advertise and ensure families coming for the free kids meals are educated on what qualifies. You're facing too much competition in season to mess this up. read more

There are not a lot of restaurants on LBI that we feel are worth returning to. There are too many mediocre vacation traps that leave me wanting. The Marlin is just the opposite. the service was wonderful; from the hostess to the waitstaff to the bus boys! We all thought the food was delicious and priced at affordable levels. The waitstaff was attentive and very friendly. it is conveniently located and you do not feel crowded inside. we will surely go back and highly recommend this restaurant. read more
