This is one of the worst dining experiences I can remember. First, when I went to pull out my chair, my hands came away all sticky - as if it were coated with maple syrup. I mentioned this to the hostess who, instead of getting me a different chair, had to touch the back of the chair to see if there was any sticky residue. She announced that I had probably taken it all off by touching it. I ordered an Old Fashioned which was absolutely fine. I then ordered the Caesar salad and crab ravioli. The salad cost $13.00 which is ridiculous. The ravioli cost $31 and were the worst ravioli I have ever eaten. The pasta dough was tough and had a strange dark color. The sauce was brown and heavy and lacking in flavor. The filling was white and dry. I could detect a faint whiff of crab but there really was virtually no crab meat in the filling. It was simply awful. Another person at our table ordered the fish and chips. The cod was over-fried, dry and tasteless. This ranks as one of the worst restaurants I have ever visited and the worst in terms of value for money. I can't believe this place is still open. read more

The friend that nobody likes but we all tolerate regardless? Yeah, that's the marlin. That last resort, the "I'll hang out with you if there's nothing better going on" type deal. And for good reason. The summer crowd is reminiscent of jersey shore scenes: over-gelled guidos, orange-tinted skin tones & red light district dance moves. Yeah, you get the picture. They usually have a live band Friday nights and a DJ on Saturdays (unfortunately his repertoire consists of approximately 15 songs which all happen to be lousy). Oh and don't bother giving any suggestions he'll just stare you down and tell you that such and such song is "not part of the marlin's vibe". Um I do believe I am the customer and therefore, as long as I'm here I AM THE FREAKING MARLIN VIBE. I know what you're wondering, why the f does this girl keep going back if she hates it so much? A fair question. There are a couple reasons for this, one being that post-labor day options are limited and the marlin is convenient, two being a return to the "friend that nobody likes" analogy - it's not explicable, just a fact of life. After spending a week on the island, had our last night out at the Marlin. Was pretty pleased with everything. Nice apps, we all split, the crab artichoke dip was real nice, wood fire pizza was delicious, fresh oysters were good, no sand and the crab thai spring was probably my favorite. NIGHTLIFE REVIEW: I was really excited to have a night out at the Marlin but the winds were taken out of my sail once I got to the bar. I had read that on Saturday nights at the Marlin there was a $2 domestic beer special which had me excited which was confirmed by the bouncer outside upon my arrival. After paying the $10 cover, which was expected because of the live band that was playing, I went to the bar to cash in. The bartender gave me an attitude and informed us that there was not a beer special. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT I never mind paying for drinks at what they are priced for but after expecting one thing and getting another, plus an attitude, this ruined the rest of the time at this bar. The next day I found out from a very nice local that the Marlin is also owned by the owner of The Ketch which made perfect sense to me as I had a bad experience at The Ketch the night before. Get ready to reek of fish if you stay here for too long as during the day this is a big seafood restaurant in the area. They also posted an advertisement on there site for which band was playing, which I heard were good, but then when I walked in there was a completely different band playing, more false advertisement. Overall, this is a nice looking place on the inside and has a great atmosphere but I would not make this my first choice for experiencing the LBI nightlife. read more

We were a little nervous with the 3 star rating, but the menu looked good and it was happy hour, so we went in for a late lunch/early dinner. The restaurant was almost empty and was a little warm and stuffy. The waitress turned the air up for us and it quickly became comfortable. The wait staff was friendly and fairly quick. My dad can be rude and tends to make people feel uncomfortable, but they took it in stride... Everyone in our party of 5 really liked their meals which were a mix of seafood pizza, flank steaks, scallops with risotto, and kid's chicken fingers. The fried calamari and zucchini appetizers were also really good. Everything had good flavor, was cooked well and there were no complaints on the food from anyone (including my dad...). I knocked a star off because there was a sign that advertised happy hour which was why we went there, but we could only get it at the bar, which we couldn't sit at because we had a 2 year old with us who needed to sit in a normal height chair. Maybe this is a thing that you can only take advantage of happy hour at the bar, I don't know. They wouldn't accommodate us, so we didn't get any drinks. Their loss, I guess. read more

We came in around 6:00p on a Monday night. Not a soul was in the restaurant but soon started to fill up. We had a cheerful and very helpful server that had a good sense of humor. Kids eat free before 6:30pm and he wanted to make sure we got our meals in before it hit that time. I got a burger (very good), my husband got the flank steak , kids got fish and chips and chicken fingers. All dinners were tasty and well presented. The bread was moist and piping hot . Good place for families with kids--from 4:30-6:30, kids eat free if their parents buy an entree. I had the edamame & some crab chili nachos, which were excellent. Salads seemed to be on the small side--a woman at the table next to ours sent hers back for a bigger one. Typical shore kid fare--burgers, mac & cheese, fried shrimp. Decent wine selection, but the prices were outrageous--$10 for a glass of Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio. Their beer selection seemed good too, and not as over-priced. read more

Went here for dinner this past Friday 7/22 and had a rather disappointing experience. It was a group of 3 for dinner and 2 people in my group including myself, ordered the trio pasta special they offer on Friday nights. Well needless to say it was GROSS. It was 3 piles of different pasta that had NO taste at all! I mostly got it for the $1.99 per glass of wine offer but you only have one choice of wine, a chardonnay. Although the wine was the best part of dinner. I guess don't order the special on here Friday's. WE went the special route because the waitress said it was very good and not that huge of a portion (I got more than half wrapped to go which later ended up in the trash) Another reason is because most restaurants on the island are HUGELY OVERPRICED and we had gone out for an expensive dinner at bistro 14 the night before. My friends loved this place and I'm not sure why. Huge cavernous, dark restaurant/bar with REALLY bad, slightly overpriced, food. Since my friends were friends with the bartender, we caught a break on the drinks, but those seemed kinda overpriced as well. There's also a stage for live music, and it does seem to get a pretty decent crowd on Thursday/Friday nights. If it's my choice, I wouldn't go back. We can here because we were in LBI for the weekend and were looking for some good seafood. We got here and they had just about everything on the menu except lobster. Any kind of fish or shellfish you could possibly imagine, and no lobster. We ordered the fried zucchini and they were awesome. Mussels were great and the shrimp cocktail was fresh and cold. Dinner wasg ood. I got seafood scampi and it was good. Could probably use a little more flavor in the sauce, but I added a little salt and it was fine. Showed up at 6pm so we could make the boat ride back home and have visibility. The bartenders did their very best to accommodate us, however whoever was the manager of their Sunday night lobster bake screwed up terribly. There were 10 Of us sitting at a bar no less and asked all the food came out at different times except for the captain and his wife. They never got their food. The bartender was so embarrassed and tried his best but management was not keen on providing customer service. None of the parties were satisfied with the food. The calamari was chewy and lobster Maine was not creamy but runny. We all left without feeling satisfied especially the captain when they said his food was coming out and it would not be comped. #wenthomehungry When CHEGG is producing more volume and better food than your "white table establishment" provide better customer service to be forgiven. I would give this place 0 stars if it was an option. There was so many things wrong with our experience here yesterday that I don't know if it will all fit in this review. To start we went to the bar to grab drinks while waiting to be seated. After grabbing drinks we were brought over to a table by a really nice hostess. She seated us but no one ever came over. After 20 minutes we asked a server that was passing by if anyone was taking care of our table because no one had been over. He went into the open kitchen, argued with a waitress and then a man who looked like the owner started yelling at both of them. The kid then returned and stated that he would be taking care of us. He brought us water and bread. And when I say bread, he gave us literally two slices of bread; one for each of us. We were told that apparently the owner is cheap and only allows the servers to bring out one slice per guest. We ordered two burgers and clams casino to start. The clams were absolutely awful; it was all vegetables with barely any breading or bacon. They seemed to be served over the salt you use to melt ice on the asphalt, which was very unappetizing. Our burgers came out very quick but my uncle's burger was wrong. The waiter dropped them off and left abruptly so he waited and waited but the waiter never came back to check on us. Finally he got up and approached the open kitchen and told the cook that the burger was wrong. After a few minutes the correct burger was brought out to us, clearly with the old cheese scraped off and the new toppings put on. The waiter apologized and asked us if we wanted another round of drinks. He then forgot to bring them to us, came to check on us and still didn't have them. He finally brought out the ONE drink, which was a glass of wine, and it was barely a glass at that. Never brought the beer. My uncle went back up to the counter and said we were still missing a beer. Finally got it and asked for the check almost immediately. The waiter told us he would be paying out of his pocket for the wine because of the mix up, which was very nice of him. Over all this is the worst restaurant experience we have EVER had. The American flag outside was even laying on the ground when we left and had to tell the hostess to let someone know so they would correct it. NEVER GOING HERE AGAIN. read more

Visited twice this week. Went with 6 adults and 3 children under 9. Food was good both visits. You must make reservations if you want a reasonable seating time. Many tables had large families. Was quiet noisy especially the second visit or table was closer to the bar. First visit service was good. Second visit they were slower, may have been under staffed. read more

We were a party of 5 who were told to wait 30 mins. I had no problem with the wait as I understood that this was a Saturday night dinner. As we waited at the bar, a party of 7 arrives 5 mins after us. They are white we are Asians. They get their table BEFORE us. I let it go at first but obviously wanted to investigate whether or not they had a reservation. I first consult my friends and they say that they over heard the party of 7 say that THEY DON'T HAVE A RESERVATION. My friends were insistent that I not ask the hostess for clarification about our reservation. They said to let it go because they understood that we were being discriminated against. Not only are we Asian but we are also in our early 20s hence the perception that we are cheap. I could not accept that line of reasoning. It's the principle that mattered. So I finally approach the hostess. I asked her why the party before us was accommodated before us. She said that they had a reservation. My friend instantly told me that she had lied to me. To further confirm this, they only started preparing the table as soon as I asked. And by then we had already been waiting 30 mins. The table they were preparing was UNOCCUPIED when we entered. It was our flaw that we did not ask for it. This does not excuse them from the fact that we were served after the party of 7 even if we had been there earlier. If it were truly a reservation. This party of 7 should have been seated IMMEDIATELY! Travelers be wary! AVOID especially if you're not the ideal customer demographic. read more

The staff is always super friendly and attentive. Order the mango cosmo from the drink list - that is my favorite! Also, best bar on the island. Selected the Marlin for its close proximity to later activities. Unfortunately, it was a disappointment from the service to the food. The waitress, though very attentive and friendly, failed to deliver basic service. We requested water for the table 4 times, our wine order arrived incomplete and was not familiar with the menu. We were willing to overlook these service-related issues but the food was worse. The "thin and crisp" zucchini appetizer were neither. "Soggy and thick," come to mind. Next, we all ordered pizzas. We ordered three different types: pepperoni, shrimp scampi and Margherita. The cheese was congealed and oddly flavorless. The shrimp scampi, was horrible. It lacked flavor, had bitter garlic and uncooked onions. Who puts onions in shrimp scampi?! If that's not enough, my daughter reported in on the state of the bathroom. It was filthy. The Marlin bar & Restaurant in LBI denied entry to my friends Type 1 diabetic Niece because of their "no bag policy." GiGi has to carry all of her diabetic supplies including candy, juice boxes, insulin, monitoring devices, etc, everywhere she goes. She told the management that the bag was a medical necessity and that they were welcome to check the contents. They refused and told her to leave. They caused her great embarrassment, discriminated against type 1 diabetics, and denied her her civil rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act. I was reading the Sandpaper (LBI's weekly entertainment newspaper) and I saw that the Marlin has beer pong on Wednesday nights...and $5 Bud Light pitchers. Immediately, I knew what I was doing on Wednesday night. Beer Pong is easily one of my favorite things to do - I would go as far as calling it a sport. It's a great sport. I even tried qualifying for the World Series of Beer Pong in Las Vegas...seriously. A group of 5 of us showed up around 10 and there were probably about 6 people in the bar at this point. They were charging a $5 cover...I almost wanted to point out to the bouncer than nobody was inside and they should be paying me $5 to come in. I decided to suck it up and drop the $5. On the surface, I hate paying covers unless you are getting something out of it like a live band, or in this case, beer pong. We walked in and there were 2 beer pong tables set up right next to the dance floor and they had a DJ. We started ordering some Bud Light pitchers and got the games going. By the end of the night, the place was absolutely mobbed with people dancing and people playing. Definitely a younger crowd here. The tables were setup with water cups (you don't play with beer at bars but you don't drink the water) and the cups were set up as already built into the table in a 6 cup triangle. Like I said, I've played in official tournaments before and this was the first time I've seen this. After playing some games with the people I was with, there were 2 guys actually running the show with a sign up sheet. My partner (sister's boyfriend) and I play our first game and we lose (go figure). We put our name on the list and get set up on the table next to those guys. We proceed to run off at least a 7 game winning streak. As usual, I carried my partner - hitting cup after cup. The only issue I had with the actual game play was that the place was incredibly dark so you had to rely on some instincts. The whole time we were rattling off our winning streak, the guys who beat us originally were winning the whole time, as well. After our winning streak, the guys running the show came over to us and said that they were moving us to the other guys' table since both teams kept winning. In my opinion, this was the "unofficial" championship game. We smoke them in the first game and I immediately say let's make it best 2 out of 3 since they had beat us originally. Again, we run them off the table - winning both games easily. I proclaim to no one in particular that we are the beer pong champs of the night. Even though it was definitely unofficial, I don't know how anyone who witnessed my greatness could argue with me on that. I understand that really wasn't a typical Yelp review and more of a recap of my Beer Pong night. I had a blast. As the winning streak increased, so did my Bud Light consumption. The only reason I went with 3 stars here is that the bartenders were incredibly, incredibly slow and I hate cover charges. I'd definitely come back here on a Wednesday night. read more

RACIAL PROFILING by owner Mike Battista!!! Please read!! Zero stars! Our family experienced strong racial profiling at the Ketch on 7/14. We took our son and a party of 14 to celebrate his birthday. As we were leaving, a few of us were told you can not take your drink down the stairs. One member of our party was black. Battista ( the owner) handled him very differently. It was so difficult to watch. He was told not to take his drink downstairs, he responded that he understood. He then turned around and attempted to return to the upper level. The owner told him to leave the premises and then took his drink from him and crushed it in his hands! It was aggressive and hostile. Several in our party challenged the owner asking him to explain his behavior. This was done peacefully. He told us all to leave immediately and threatened to call the police and have our son arrested. The police arrived and told Battista they had no reason to arrest him. The police told our son he could file a complaint. Which we hope to do. We left the establishment and went to the Marlin, not realizing it is the same owner. We were all sitting down when Battista entered the bar and went over to the manager, pointing at us. We all agreed to avoid a problem we would leave. When we got outside there were more police cars. Battista again told the police to arrest our son. And again the officer told him he has no grounds to arrest him. Our son's friend's first time on our beautiful LBI was horrific. We were embarrassed and mortified. Our family has had a family home on this island for many many years. We will not only file a complaint but also tell everyone we know to please ban these 2 establishments, plus his liquor store ( attached to the Marlin). (We have much of this on video) read more

The meal was really overpriced- $24.00 for a mediocre bowl of clam chowder, a tiny "paper shell" lobster that contained very little lobster, and a minuscule amount of cole slaw. Terrible experience, food was bad the service was slow but we always try to make the best of it. We stayed there to try enjoy the DJ and play shuffle board however one jerk of a manager with black hair and tight beard rudely approached me and my 40 to 50 something friends and said no shuffle board after 10 pm. When asked why he said everyone steals the pucks or it could be a safety hazard. So I offered for them to hold my nysdl and assured him we would not take aim at DJ no matter how bad he may be.LOL...He took the pucks anyway and said it's a rule..Big _ick of a move because the place had maybe 10 people in there at the time. read more

Good for beers but the service lacks and the food is mediocre at best. Waited 45 minutes for a hot dog that never showed up so we paid the bill and left. There was only like 20 people in the entire place and three bartenders plus 2-3 servers were frantic trying to handle it. The buffalo wings were super average and I wouldn't bother getting them again. Beer was ok out of the bottle, but that was to be expected. They do not have the Sunday Ticket so don't bother going if you're not an Eagles fan or a Giants fan. I feel like the Marlin is on par with all the other shitty bars on L.B.I...
