The greeting from our arrival to seating was prompt and very courteous. We got suggestions from the wait staff and started our experience. They have an extensive cocktail and wine list. We started with a drink called Southern Hospitality and their branded Old Fashioned. Both drinks were exceptional. We accompanied that with Grilled Octopus, which was sensational. Very hard not to make it chewy. Great char and sauce that accompanied it. For entrees, we did the Perloo, an amazing interpretation, and a swordfish. Both dishes were immaculately prepared and perfectly sized. We chose a bottle of Loss and Lehn, something we had never tried before but recommended based on what we had ordered. It matched perfectly with both dishes. We also choose items from the pick 3 menu to accompany our entrees. We finished with the best bread Pudding we have ever had nd french press coffee. The price was very reasonable considering the quality and the service, and should not be missed next time you are in Savanah.

Both dishes were very well prepared and felt thoughtfully put together without trying too hard. The fish on both plates was cooked correctly, portions were solid, and flavors worked well together. With my wife's gluten and dairy allergy, plus my tree nut allergy, Alpha-Gal, and diabetes, we're usually a decent stress test for a kitchen. Staff handled questions professionally and didn't make ordering feel complicated. Atmosphere strikes a nice balance--upscale enough for a date night or business dinner, but still relaxed and comfortable. Service was attentive without hovering. It…read morewas difficult to pick a restaurant to have dinner at, because there's so many great choices in Savannah, but seeing that the minds behind Common Thread were recently semifinalists for Best Chef SE through the James Beard Awards, it ended up being my choice. I'm absolutely glad I picked it. Walking in, we were greeted with smiles. The house/restaurant was stunning. It was quirky but still had its charm. We were escorted to our table, which was an odd little table halfway up the stairs, away from everyone. We were told that table was meant of anniversaries/intimate events. It felt awkward at first but it ended up being fun people watching and listening in to conversations as people walked by. Colton was our server. He was great. Extremely knowledgeable. He walked us through the menu, offered great suggestions on food and wine, did a proper wine service, and even properly pronounced the region in which the wine was from. Colton definitely made us feel special and gave us an incredible experience. I'll definitely give it to Common Thread. The knowledge in which every staff member presented was incredible. As every person dropped off an item at the table, they accurately described the dish in detail before they walked away. I've been in the restaurant industry for almost 20 years; serving, bartending, and managing numerous different types of restaurants, from casual to fine dining. I've opened up a few restaurants and have been a trainer as well. Common Thread is operating at a high level in terms of the staff's ability. The food: incredible. We started with one of each oyster, and it was insane how much flavor was packed in them. Our first course was also accompanied with the hand roll and the apple beet salad. The hand roll was fantastic. The beet salad felt like it needed some sort of acid/citrus with it, but still had great flavor. Course two was the mushroom cannelloni and the orecchiette. Both were phenomenal. My wife was obsessed with the cannelloni, the butternut squash puree was a perfect accompaniment. The pesto/parmesan foam on the orecchiette was an excellent touch. Course three we went against Colton's suggestion for the pork chop (almost got both, we were stuffed), and got the Ribeye. Great char, cooked perfectly. The peppercorn jus was an excellent topper for it. For dessert, we opted for the sticky toffee pudding. Although it wasn't sticky, the ginger pairing with it was an excellent touch. This is one of the best experiences we've ever had at a restaurant. This will be a staple for us whenever we're back in Savannah and will definitely be asking for Colton again. He is the kind of server I'd like to have at my restaurant. Props to Common Thread, props to Colton.

Without going into excessive detail about our extensive notes (because everything is subjective and I don't want this review to sound super negative), we found the dishes were fine-to-good . . . but not quite where we thought they should be given the vaunted reputation of the establishment. (I'll note that from the reviews here and the professional reviewer buzz, our take is a minority one.) One thing I'll say in favor of Common Thread: my wife ordered a dish with which she has a lot of experience and the version the restaurant served (while made of high quality ingredients) was not of the preparatory style that she was expecting. The server noted she did not eat it and simply took it off the tab - well and professionally done.

This place delivers! We had a 6:45 reservation, showed up right on time and were seated immediately. Benjamin introduced himself and helped us find some drinks that we loved, the Polaris and the Castor. After he went over the evening's specials, he helped guide us through our selections for the night. Having some un-inspired oysters earlier in the week, we decided to do two of each of the three oysters of the night. They were perfectly cold, deliciously briny and expertly shucked. We added just a drop of minuet juice but the oysters were so clean and crisp, we didn't want to cover up any of the fresh taste. The winter salad was simple but delicious. The lamb and chicken were both tender and perfectly seasoned. The Wagyu had an amazing crust that added texture to a simple slice of beef and the cornbread dressing with scallops was an original take on familiar flavors playing well off each other. We ended with a lovely olive oil lemon cake. You can feel the love in the ingredients, the presentation and the service at The Grey.

I was debating between the Fried green tomato BLT or the Caprese Grilled cheese then our server Kristin suggested the mussels and that is what I ended up with and I am so glad I did. These were absolutely the best mussels I've ever had. The sauce was not the traditional garlic/shallot wine sauce but had more tomato and basil reminiscent of warm bruschetta. I had to borrow my husbands spoon to get every bit of that sauce after I finished my mussels. My husband had the famous shrimp and grits which he absolutely loved. He noted it wasn't overpowered with sausage like most other restaurants do but had a perfect balance of flavor. My mom got the lamb burger and also loved every bite. She loved lamb so as soon as she saw that she had no doubt what she was going to order. Both my husband and mom loved every bite. I can see why The Public Kitchen is so popular. The restaurant has some indoor and outdoor seating with a mix of tables and banquets along the walls. It was comfortable without being too crowded. This was my first visit to The Public but It definitely won't be my last.
