Came here for our wedding anniversary dinner and wasn't completely impressed. In a nutshell, not a fine dining experience, think more on the lines of a higher scale maggianos with tasty pastas. I would come back again, but for a more casual experience, not for a wedding anniversary. Lots of ambiance and a piano inside - very nice! Server was kind but really busy and ended up being over a 2 hour dinner and given we already had a drink/apps somewhere else - it felt really long. This took away from the dining experience and made it more of a us having to track down things as opposed to servers coming by at the right times. Servers understand the menu but not like a fine dining experience where they can explain the dish well/flavors etc. They serve half orders of pastas which I really appreciate and loved! Weird thing to note, but the restaurant has intentionally made everything oversized as a memorable token? - the menus, wine glasses and pepper grinders seem to get in the way for servers which might not have been working as intended Bread 2/5 - they serve little bread cubes, they are okay but the cheese pieces they serve with it were amazing! Spaghetti 4/5 - really good but was expecting it to be saucier more like how it looks on the Yelp pics. The pasta was really fresh and almost mimicked a ramen noodle texture/size Rigatoni 5/5 - fresh pasta, tasty sauce w onions and cheese on top Eggplant Parm 3/5 - the top layer is really good but was almost slimy inside and ours came out black on the top. They offered to make another but we had waiting a while already and had other pastas on the table. Tiramisu 0/5 - it tasted straight up like alcohol! Yuck. This is something I think servers should be aware of and tell customers if they ask or want to order. Overall, I would recommend this place but with some things noted above. The 2 pastas were really good but all the other things - service, food variety (bc we didn't eat the tiramisu or eggplant) took away from 'our' experience. I'll be back to try it again on a more casual occasion and for the delicious pastas! read more

A pretty solid place for Italian food in Houston; I tried 4 food items and their espresso martini. Only one of the food items was a miss for me but everything else was pretty good. I tried the rigatoni a la vodka, ricotta gnocchi, pumpkin agnolotti, and the caesar salad. The absolute fav item of the night was the ricotta gnocchi; I highly recommend this dish as it was very full of flavor. The rigatoni a la vodka was a second place but the flavors weren't as strong as those of the gnocchi. The pumpkin agnolotti was a bit too sweet for my taste. The salad was pretty good, although since they forgot to bring it out initially we ended up eating it last. No biggie though! The espresso martini was pretty solid as well. Our server was super attentive and accommodating! We were here with a large group for a birthday and they kindly let us store the birthday cake we brought and they cut it up and served it for us. I will say this is a nice spot for a large group; we had 11 people in our party but we had made a reservation well beforehand. I booked Marmo for a group work dinner yesterday and it was wonderful. The planning process was smooth and the execution was the same. This is probably closer to 4.5 stars but a couple things that could have been better. 1.) the dessert was a bit lacking, I'm a big lover of sweets and especially chocolate, we had both the olive oil cake which was lovely with ice cream and then the flourless chocolate cake, this one was not a favorite among the group, it was beautiful but very bitter and lackluster. Now on to the great, for appetizers, we had the crab bruschetta, it was more like avocado toast with crab but delicious nonetheless. The fried chicken and incredible dipping sauce, so good I couldn't stop eating it but the star of the show in terms of apps were the meatballs, they were so flavorful, plated beautifully and served with toast smothered with creamy ricotta I believe. The soup we had was a parsnip soup, not super memorable but something different. For Pasta course the rigatoni in vodka sauce was great but the Pumpkin Agnolotti was my favorite bite of the night, so many amazing flavors and textures in a perfect bite, sweet and savory and amazing. For mains, we had the choice of texas wagyu, pork chop, chicken parm and a whole red fish. While most of the group opted for the wagyu, as I did, it was fantastic, perfectly cooked and seasoned and tender as butter. Upscale chop house that happens to serve Italian food. If you're feeling fancy - this place is the definition of upscale. Not really authentic Italian but I don't believe that is what they are going for anyways. Espresso martinis are not on the cocktail menu but crafted extremely well. We did a Pilates class around the area and saw this really fancy restaurant for the first time! It looked good and the place was packed so the next time we were around the area, we decided to stop by. The food simply was overrated and undercooked. Most of what we ordered was priced high but tasted like frozen food being heated up. Service was exceptional with the free bread being our most favorite item on the menu. My friends and I had a GREAT early Saturday lunch experience at Marmo with our waiter Paul! I was hesitant to dine here because they were so new but the service and food were executed with excellence. It is one of the better dining experiences I've had in a while. Paul was so helpful with our menu selections from cocktails to dessert he gave his favorites, suggestions, and reassurances of our choices for all courses of our meal. The dishes are family style so I liked that we could try a little bit of everything. We ordered two sauces with our steak that i would probably pass on for next time, the garlic Mostarda and the porcini sauce. The steak was good on its own so it didn't really need them! I am the MOH for an upcoming wedding and we spent a bachelorette weekend in Houston. I planned ahead when selecting this restaurant because it was close to our Airbnb. We initially had a large party (10) so I contacted the restaurant directly to make a reservation. All was easy enough and they called a week in advance to confirm our reservation, which was great customer service. They have a complimentary valet service directly across the street from the entrance. Our server was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Only critique I would have is they placed us in the middle of a section instead of a more secluded area, but that wasn't a big deal. The drink and wine list was extensive and the food options were great! I had the squid ink pasta with blue crab. The portion size was perfect. No need for leftovers! Came to Marmo for Houston Restaurant week this year and loved the ambiance! The restaurant itself was classy and romantic but got a little loud at times making it hard to hear the person next to you. There was a live singer that night when I went and he was awesome! I ordered the charcuterie board with the chefs special cheese and was a little disappointed to find that it was a small block for the pricing of two people. For starters I ordered the Caesar salad and it was delicious but nothing special. My favorite course's were the squid ink crab pasta and the scallops with peach. The two combinations surprised me and worked very cohesively. The scallops were the highlight of my night and paired well with the roasted peaches. To end the dinner I tried Panna cotta for the first time and their tiramisu. I liked how light the Panna cotta was and how surprisingly refreshing it was after a big meal. There were definitely no crumbs left behind. I would definitely recommend this place for a nice date or a celebratory dinner. read more

This is a very nice new italian restaurant. service was great, and decor/ vibe of restaurant was chic! We had the meatball appetizer (7/10) - tasted good but nothing too special . I had the half portion gnocchi (9/10) - very yummy. This I enjoyed. My friend got lobster ravioli (6/10) and tried a bite. The half portion was small and was a little bit underwhelming. Party of 2, reservations at 5:15 on a Friday. I was really excited to try this place for my birthday dinner and after reading all the positive reviews! Ambiance is 8/10, really upscale aesthetic environment. But the music was really loud. The piano/singer overpowered the room. I left with a sore throat bc I was practically yelling to talk to my friend across the table from me. Drinks: I ordered the montepelosso ($18/glass) after asking which was the most similar to a cab. 7/10 Food: we ordered the half potion of the rigatoni a la vodka and the bolognese. Half portions were more than enough for a sitting. Sauce on both was really good! However, for a fine dining restaurant known for their pasta, I was very UNDERWHELMED with my experience. The rigatoni was over cooked and tough. Which is why I only give it 3 stars. The food came out super fast which was nice, but also makes me think, was this already sitting in the back. Dessert: we ordered the tiramisu and it completed the meal perfectly! 10/10 one portion was more than enough to share. Side note: most restaurants acknowledge the note section where they ask what occasion is being celebrated. I indicated it was a birthday dinner. (I know it says not guaranteed). But this was not acknowledged at dinner. Especially if it's a fine dining restaurant, most people go for a special occasion. Marmo's food is delightful, and the restaurant is beautiful. So, the reason for only three stars is that Marmo's service just completely fails to live up to the beauty of the restaurant or the food. The service was just really slow and so informal/unprofessional (except for one guy in a blazer who seemed to be a manager/owner). I know there are hiring shortages, but it's just so disappointing to be in such a lovely place eating mouth-watering pasta, only to have such sub-par service. As far as the food goes, I loved the bolognese pasta--absolutely delicious, seriously. My friends all raved about the wine and their dishes as well (including the steak and risotto)--everyone loved the food. The ambiance, design, and atmosphere are welcoming regardless of class. It does have a high end feel to it but not in a negative way. I went for happy hour and I tried a few of their items. The Chicken and Cesar salad. My friend enjoyed the Veal Bolognese and we each had their oyster. Every dish eaten was Savory! My only qualm was with portion sizes. I had 2 pieces of chicken. In the photo posted, I had already eaten one. Everything is served in small portions but I guess that's how they operate their happy hour. I'm not a food connesiour so my taste buds and palette will differ. With that said, I loved how crunchy my salad was. My favorite dish was the Veal Bolognese. There was something authentic about the taste of the noodles. It was such a savory but small dish. Eating here is definitely an experience. They have happy hour from 3-6pm and we sat at the bar. I thought their prices were very competitive and that would make it hard to get a seat but that isn't the case. They have plenty of seating for their happy hour. What I did notice though is that, once happy hour ends, that's when they start getting busy. I will be back. I forgot to mention that they had a gentleman playing the piano and singing. We dined at here for NYE and did their second seating prix fix menu. To say i was disappointed would be an understatement. The roast carrot salad was served cold with smoked ricotta at the base of the salad. The ricotta combined with the other ingredients and turned into a paste. The lasagna was not beef forward, and at only 7 ounces i felt cheated. The taleggio fonduta was nice but it tasted very underwhelming. The third course was a "wagyu new york strip", also only 7 ounces. It was not a steak. It was two thin slices of a steak. It tastes amazing, but again, i felt cheated. Desert was fine. The service leaves a lot to be desired. We often waited on our waiter. I understand that the prix fixe menu might not be the best expression of the restaurant, but for $175 per person, i felt like a fool. Avoid for NYE. read more

Nice venue and I really like that they have live piano music. We sat outside on the patio which is covered and nice decor. If you can, be sure to make a reservation on the inside so you can enjoy the music. The food was ok. We had steak and salmon for our entrees. If you get the steak, it's definitely going to be cooked properly and have a good taste but the steaks are not juicy. I didn't love the side dishes so much, the meats were spot on but the sides lacked. Make sure you ask your waiter for butter to add to your complimentary bread. Makes it so much better. read more

In this area where the restaurant is located, they have valet, street parking, or a parking garage. Tip: they validate if you valet. We were able to snag a last minute reservation, as they do get packed for dinner. Nice atmosphere inside, they do also have outside seating. Tried the caesar salad since I was craving it (but, it really didn't stand out especially for the $16 price tag which I thought was a bit high). Tried half portions of the rigatoni alla vodka pasta and smoked ricotta gnocchi and ended up liking the gnocchi due to more flavor than the vodka pasta. The vodka pasta was super salty, it was hard for people at the table to eat it down with it being so salty. The surprising standout dish was definitely the 8oz outside skirt wagyu - we got it w/ the porcini bone marrow sauce and the whole dish was perfectly cooked and quite interestingly when you squeeze out the garlic to pair w/ the sauce, it was really good in flavor. Definitely out of everything, that was the one thing that really stood out and was delicious. Tried the amaretti non alcoholic mocktail since I like amaretto but it didn't stand out to me. We actually had to wait quite a bit of time for our server as well to order or when we needed something, so service wasn't quite attentive for our table at all. Overall, it's a nice place to try, but wouldn't be a place I'd run back to on a regular basis. read more

The food and wine here is so amazing!!!! Our waiter passed our table several times (not busy) and never waited on us. I had to check with the hostess to see if we had a waiter. The manager apologized and sent the waiter to our table. The waiter was very dry as if he did not want to wait on our table. The manager made our experience much better to overlook the bad waiter. A perfect spot for your next fancy night/date night! The restaurant itself is beautiful in a minimalist way. We were greeted upon arriving, brought to our table (had a res), and offered bread with Parmesan crumbles and butter right away. After reviewing the menu while being serenaded by a live pianist, my boyfriend and I decided on the meatball appetizer and half portions of the squid ink uni sauce pasta and the lobster ravioli. The food came out all together and really fast which was a little concerning at first... but our worries were quelled as soon as we took our first bites. The meatballs were juicy and tasty (but got a little boring to eat after the first few bites). The squid ink pasta was creamy with a delicious hint of uni taste in the sauce and fresh lumps of crab on top. The lobster ravioli itself was decent, but the real star was the fresh lobster pieces on top. Soooo fresh and perfectly cooked! Despite only ordering half portions, we were surprisingly full after eating. We contributed it to the fact that the squid ink pasta was quite creamy and heavy. Overall, I loved the experience and 100% will come back for the happy hour Whenever i feel like being bougie on a budget. (HH is only at the bar) We parked on the street, but there was a garage right next to the restaurant for the shopping plaza, so the parking situation doesn't seem to be as much of a horrible mess like many places nearby. read more

Marmo has been on my list for a while and since it's the last week of HRW, I decided to try it out. I had reservations for a Wednesday evening at 7pm. There was a small line at the hostess desk when I arrived and the restaurant was packed. It was pretty loud from the guest to the live music. Once I made it to the hostess, I was immediately seated and greeted by the waiter. The waiter provided recommendations on the drinks and answered questions regarding the menu. I decided against the HRW menu as I really wanted to try the Bolognese. I ordered the margherite for my drink, a Cesar salad and the Bolognese. The drink was very light and refreshing and the Cesar salad was good. I opted on the half portion of the bolognese and it was delicious!! Seasoned to perfection with the right amount of sauce to noodle proportion. I did see quite a few items on the menu I would like to try, so I will definitely be back! read more

I came here for my birthday dinner and got the Cowboy Ribeye. The steak was cooked perfectly but the bone marrow smell was a little too strong for me. I got the smashed potatoes which were great but the restaurant did not have ketchup which is odd in my opinion. Dinner was good overall and service was great! The restaurant was really loud so if you are looking for romantic vibes then I would take in consideration the noise for sure. The traffic for valet was a nightmare so plan ahead so you are not late for the reservation. read more
