However, when I asked for a discount or some form of compensation for the inconvenience and the fact that they had caused the problem in the first place, the owner, Albert, simply insisted that "they got the smell out." When I pointed out that the coats were not dropped off smelling that way and that the problem was created by their service, he refused to take responsibility. The best he offered was a discount on a future service. After five years as a loyal customer, that was the extent of their customer service. Mistakes happen. What matters is how a business responds when they do. In this case, there was poor communication, a lack of accountability, and no effort to make things right.
