Out doing some errands in Dunedin and decided to check out places for brunch. Found Marquise and looked interesting. We found it via GPS but still almost missed it. It is a small cafe tucked behind a convenience store. This was about 10:20 on a Tuesday. It is a small but quaint cafe, only two tables were occupied, so seated right away. The server brought us waters and menus. We browsed the good number of items. Now I do love quiche, and it looked great, but my interest went to the Shirted Eggs. New to me. So I went for that. My wife chose the Veggie Omellette, but changed when they did not have Salsa. So she picked the Blueberry French Toast instead. We chatted for a bit and I took photos. Shortly our meals came. I thought the Shirred Eggs would be scrambled but they were added to the bacon and heavy cream, unbroken, so cooked but juicy, and topped with cheddar. It was delicious. And the warm, toasted, baguette was superb. My wife really enjoyed her French Toast, lots of fresh blueberries, fluffy and fantastic. I wish we tried their coffee also but already had several cups this morning. Then we looked around for a baked goods display since server told us they made their own baked goods. None out but they had fresh croissants, so we got a regular and a chocolate to go. Now my wife was driving today, so couldn't resist tasting my regular croissant. Yum. It was still warm and flaky, but I only had 1 bite. Quaint place, nice decorations, great service, great food. Check it out! Plus a nice military discount! read more

If you want a taste of french cuisine without going farther than Dunedin this place is perfect for breakfast and lunch. Such a lovely café owned by a husband and wife chef team. We are greeted with a warm welcome even though it was close to closing time by our server, Paula. She explained that everything was made all in house by the chef. From the buttery croissants, to the shirred seafood eggs & individual quiche, everything tasted as if we were in France and that is a huge culinary compliment. I can't believe this place has been here for over 3 years and I just found out about it. I had the Croque Monsieur and a chocolate croissant, both excellent. I also bought a baguette (which he said he imports from France and bakes on premise. Great place for breakfast or lunch. FYI, there are probably a dozen tables inside for dine-in. Went in for Father's Day breakfast. The cappuccino was nice, quiche was yummy, the croissant was over toasted. I didn't think anything was outstanding except the quiche. The staff were friendly, a bit chatty, and Chef was kind enough to come out for a visit. While it was nice for what it was, sadly I don't think we'll be back. read more

My daughter and I drove up to Dunedin to eat at this restaurant. It was the most wonderful meal I have has in ages. The chef came out and told us he was alone so service might be slow. A large table was already seated and they were getting food one at a time. We both ordered the shirred eggs, I had a croissant and my daughter had the baguette. Coffee was wonderful. The eggs were a delight and the croissant rivaled ones I had in Paris. We were both VERY happy we found this gem! Nothing fancy but the food is exquisite! read more

I have some mixed feedback regarding our late breakfast here. 1) The French toast, pancakes, waffles were top notch. I tasted all of them and I wanted more. 2) The omelets at the table were all overcooked. Finally made it back yesterday with a friend and again got the shirred eggs, a chococinno, and a chocolate croissant. What a great breakfast! I wanted a change from the tasty but usual breakfast offerings in the area. Ordered the seafood shirred eggs (baked in a small round casserole dish) made with lobster, shrimp, pollock, and crab (real, not imitation!). They also had it as regular shirred eggs but if you like seafood in your breakfast you'll be very happy. It's served with a small baguette and I ate half as is and half in the baguette as a sandwich of sorts. Wonderful both ways. Served with a side salad with a nice dressing. Coffee was good but I like it really hot and the mugs are thick enough to steal the heat after adding two half and halfs so I had it microwaved a couple of times. The chef came out to check how things were and I told him how good it was and how much I enjoyed it. The server was very friendly and at the end of the meal didn't charge me for the coffee although I would have been happy to pay. Definitely a nice change from the usual in this French cafe, the Marquis in Dunedin. read more

We found this cute little local French cafe on our trip to Palm Harbor! It's a small casual joint, but very friendly. Our waitress was funny, conversational and knowledgeable about everything. She worked closely with the chef, who spoke French and frequently came out to check on us and see if we liked the food. (He even let us know he tried a new machine for his cheese sauce, and wanted our input on it!) My family tried almost every bread item on the menu, and we were stunned at how fresh and delicious everything was - from baguettes to croissants. Anything egg-based was fluffy, buttery and delightful. This was a great discovery, and we hope to check out their other location next time! read more

Amazing fresh croissants, delicious breakfast, it's a taste of France brought over to Dunedin. The location is a hidden gem seated next to a salon and other local businesses so you'd think twice that good food exists here, but it does! The inside is standard restaurant fare, nothing that really jumps out, it's quaint but the service and food are the stars of this show. We had the chocolate croissants, plain croissants, French toast, and shirred eggs...it was all delicious and seasoned well. What a find!! A friend recommended Marquis and she was right! I had a delicious breakfast with two friends. First, coffee was strong, flavorful, and delicious! Then I had a Pain au Chocolat (chocolate croissant) that was fresh-made. Real butter, too! My friend had Eggs Cocotte (2 eggs, bacon, cheese, heavy cream - baked in the oven). She swooned over it! Comes with a little side salad too! My other friend had the Pancakes - said they were fluffy and cooked to perfection! Will be back, maybe for lunch next time - they have a French BLT that I just have to try! read more

Wonderful brunch place was quite and we chatted with the chief. Our coffees were truly perfect, my latte was amazing! I really loved my chief created quiche - freshly made, soooo fluffy and the eggs tasted amazing - traditional quiche!!! Chief choose the right cheese and ham - which created a true traditional quiche - best quiche EVER! After being spoiled at Loupiotte Kitchen in Los Angeles, we've been in search of equally fine French breakfast fare along the SW coast of FL. And...Found it! Phillipe, who runs Marquis in Dunedin off CR-1 is serving up French authenticity. From the New Orleans music blues vibe to the incredible croissants and delicious coffee, Marquis delivers. Check out the menu online. Crepe-designed omelets, shirred soft egg souffle (eggs Cocette), sour dough french baguettes and designer pancakes at the top of our list. The only things to point out are based upon giving the restaurant a bit more time to evolve and work out small kinks - as they've barely been open for 1/2 year. The hash browns are a bit dry, and waitress needs to be in place by 8:30a upon opening, not 9a to relieve the owner from doing it all for the first 1/2 hour. The tables needed to be wiped down and fresh coffee available. Patience and perseverance for both shop and customer given, and business should thrive. Well done. Deserved patronage. We tried this new, (one year in business) French restaurant today for breakfast. The front entrance is unassuming and we likely would have never stopped in except I read a great review online and wanted to check it out. The food is what stands out here. Everything is homemade in the back kitchen so the wait was longer than expected but well worth it. We both ordered the cappuccino which was creamy, frothy and full of flavor. I had the veggie quiche, my husband had the shirred eggs and both were served with a small salad that had a very light and delicate oil and vinegar dressing. Finally convinced some neighbors to try this "off the grid" French restaurant. Great food and reasonable prices. The bill for the three of us was less than $40. for French food. I had seafood shirred eggs. Baked to perfection. I'll let the others describe their meals, simply because I was too busy enjoying mine. We got there after 9:30 on a Tuesday. We were essentially the only folks in the place. Apparently like most Dunedin Restaurants the owner told us the place gets busy on weekends. It's in an out-of-the-way location, at the near end of a strip mall mile North of Main Street on CR 1 is well worth seeking out. This place may become a great habit. Next time we'll bring more people to join us. read more

This is a hidden gem in Dunedin! The food is exceptional and the staff is friendly and knowledge. I had the Shirred eggs (you can even change the ingredients as they are made on demand). It was baked in a casserole dish and served with a sliced baggette and salad greens. They will serve fresh butter as well. A full selection of coffees and cappuccinos are available. This breakfast/lunch spot is SOOOO good. Phillip is the owner and cooks the food as well. The food is made from scratch and with love. It tastes delicious. It is a perfect place to go and enjoy coffee with friends while waiting for amazing, yummy food to come from the kitchen. We sat and talked for over an hour, never feeling rushed. I took my elderly mother to this place upon a recommendation from a friend. First, I had trouble finding it because the signage is poor. Second - and most disconcerting -- was that I had to wait an 90 minutes for a small amount of food for 2 people. I specifically went there on a Saturday morning before Mother's Day thinking it would be less crowded. Wrong. It was almost full and they were not equipped to deal with it. I tried to expedite my time there by paying for my order before I got it. Waitress said it would be just a few more minutes so I assisted getting my mom into her car because I had better things to do then spend all morning getting breakfast. Since it was more than a few minutes, I'll admit it, I blew up at the waitress and told her how I didn't appreciate her "lying" about how much longer it was going to be. No apologies just excuses. Then, we get home, and my order was wrong! It did not contain the bacon or the chocolate croissant I asked for. I was livid that I spent 90 minutes to get a baguette, toast, hash browns and eggs. Went here for the 1st time Thursday morning. I had the shirred eggs which were done perfectly. Very creamy with cheese, bacon and came with a large baguette of fresh bread and small amount of greens and tomato. The coffee was very good the owner made me a fresh pot of decaf.
