Incredible food with many vegan options! One of the salads that looks creamy is actually tahini, so it pays to ask what is dairy-free. I had a fantastic falafel sandwich with spiced fries and an order of tabouli and fatouch to go home, plus a package of Rose Turkish delight all for totally reasonable prices. The food was alright, very light flavor and I found all my meats to be pretty dry, the portions were small, we spent nearly $100 but my family of 5 was still left feeling hungry. We order from here all the time , takeout used to be much better . Now, not so much. They combine all the food into styrofoam trays and the meals are very skimpy compared to dine in. Ordered a few weeks ago and thought maybe it was just a fluke. Ordered today - got home to find out no lamb chops - the cucumber salad spilled over onto all the food and there were 4 pieces of chicken and maybe 3.5 pieces of steak kabobs . Meal is ruined unless you like cucumber salad mixed in everything. I'd say no biggie if this was just a normal take out joint - but 28 bucks for a meal.... Gotta do better. I can say the place has been one of the super consistently good places in Jacksonville... but quickly going down hill. Especially take out. Happy to see new waitresses in the place - we stopped eating inside due to the very rude waitress that happened to be there every time we went . Called - they offered for me to drive back to pick up said missing food. No thanks. Asked to speak with manager - they said no. Sad to say - no more for us. Won't recommend anymore either. Authentic Middle-Eastern food... In Jacksonville??? ABSOLUTELY! I was fortunate enough during my childhood to partake in exceptional Middle-Eastern dishes (Kabob, Hummus, Tabouli, etc), and was hoping for the best here, and OH did they hit the mark!!! The Lamb/Beef Shawarma, delicately wrapped, and bursting with flavor was perfectly paired with a Bismanti/Jazmine rice and a devilishly simple yet smooth cucumber salad. And just when things couldn't get better, their in-house executed baklava.... Sweet Baby Jesus! Perfectly flaky pastry top adorned with honey, and the pistachio base wasn't overly sweet, instead just right. Pair all of this with a passionate and dedicated staff and lucky patrons leave with a smile on their face and a happy belly as well!! BRAVO! Marrakesh is in a class with little to few true "peers"!! There is something I really liked about this place. I enjoyed the atmosphere. I feel like they are trying to create the hustle and bustle of the casbah. I thought the decorations and background music were interesting. I thought it was fun watching the food preparation in the open kitchen. The cooks really have some nice flare. I started with the tahini salad and had the moussaka for my meal. Both were full of fresh flavors, but I was thrilled with the moussaka! The eggplant was cooked so well it just melts! (Sometimes eggplant can be a bit rubbery. Not the case here.) My dining partner had a couscous salad and the beef and lamb shawarma. It was authentically cooked on an open rotisserie and sliced directly from the spit. Bottom line, we both had terrific meals and enjoyed ourselves. read more

I was surprised to find this spot in the midst of a strip mall, but the inside definitely has a better vibe. I would recommend finding a table in the back, or sitting up at the bar in the back by the hookahs, it feels a little less cafeteria style (open kitchen in the front). There's beautiful brightly cushioned benches surrounding large granite tables, which are perfect for the hot ashes (to burn the shisha of course...) from the coals to fall on. It's a wonder that they don't allow smoking inside (something about a city ordinance, although I'm inclined to think that it doesn't apply after hours). They have a wicker love seat outside a few cafe tables on the other corner, but it sits on the narrow sidewalk surrounding the parking lot and leaves little for ambiance. (You could close your eyes and pretend you're sitting on a cobble stone street with people spouting off in Arabic and a soccer game playing on the tv with the call to prayer beckoning in the distance. But alas, you are back in Jacksonville.) Food wise, the hummus was decent, processed a little too silky smooth (needs more texture) but the taste was balanced. I loved the mint in my fattoush salad, accompanied by crispy pita croutons. The tahini salad, a blend of cucumbers and tomatoes drenched in a creamy sauce, was a little too wet, go for the tabbouleh salad instead. Skip the drinks, unless you like the sweet blended ones. The Brazillian (strawberries, ice, lime, cachaça, in that order) was sugary and basically non-alcoholic. For appetizers the goat cheese and labne were tasty and they give you an endless supply of pita bread - but save room for dessert! The falafel wrap was decent, but alike most street food venues, with a little less grease. The chicken cous cous was tasty with generous portions. Finally, the baklava was actually fairly decent, dripping with honey and cut with a slice of lemon. To be realistic, you have to rate on what is in the surroundings. No, you are not in the food mecca or even in a decent sized town, so, for what it is, the food was decent, the service was nice, and the ambiance was great. read more

A welcoming staff, great decor, excellent and friendly service, unique coffee and food to explore, you can smoke a hookah (outside), take a seat on a pillow at the bar and order a drink, and watch TV or a live bellydancer (she's awesome)! I used to be stationed in Jacksonville, but now live in Virginia Beach and return for a week every other month. I saw that Marrakesh was under construction the last time I was here, and this time - they were open! I love Turkish and Mediterranean food to begin with, so I was more than happy to try it. I would have to say that I have a new favorite restaurant in Jacksonville (it used to be Hakata). The atmosphere was great, the staff was pleasant and quick, and the food was awesome! The shwarma was so good, I talked them into making me a shwarma sandwich to take with me, even though it was only available at lunch time. It tasted just as good the next day. My wife and I came here the other night for a spontaneous date night. We had been wanting to go but always seemed to pick days they were closed or when it was extremely busy. However this evening we came and it was moderately busy but were seated immediately, so it wasn't that bad. From reading other reviews I was prepared to taste the most amazing Mediterranean food around and have the greatest staff in the area serve. However from the drink order (which was wrong) to waiting the entire meal for a refill of a glass of water, to they getting the order wrong but not wanting to wait another 30 minutes for rice, it just wasn't up to the hype that I have read from others. The nice thing I'll leave you with is, the food actually does taste pretty good. The grilled lamb kabob (which honestly just tasted like regular steak) was very good, so even if it wasn't real lamb it was still good. read more

Went a few days ago with some friends. It was awesome. I ordered the shawarmah (hope I spelled that right, but I apologize if not) sandwich. Inside were some slices of beef and lamb nestled in a bed of vegetables, then rolled up in a wrap. A-mazing! The spices are front and center in the tahini sauce. A little hot but I loved it. I also got a salad with my meal and I chose fatoush. It was definitely my kind of salad. The "dressing" tasted of lemon or vinegar with some spices and sprinkled with parsley. It was considered a salad closely resembling "American" salads. Lettuce, tomatoes, onions. Still delicious. I could have eaten an entire container. I love vinegar-based dressings. Best thing about going to Marrakesh on Saturday is the entertainment. We met Kaitlyn, the belly dancer. She put on a show every half hour or so. It was pretty neat to see. There is also a bar in an adjacent room. The seating style looks comfortable, even the bar seats are on a platform and the bench seating has cushions. Next time we go, we decided to sit in there! We'd probably have to sacrifice watching the belly dancer though. If you have never tried Mediterranean food, or you don't know where to take your date where you can wow him/her without breaking your wallet, definitely come here. This place is a diamond! Our first visit here started off on the wrong foot; our server seemed overwhelmed and either the kitchen printer really jammed or he forgot to place our order for us. Regardless of what happened, it was about 45 minutes after we walked in that we discovered that the cooks weren't even working on our order because they didn't have it.
