Hopping place even during a pandemic. My gf and I got away for the weekend to Wisconsin and ended up here for dinner. There is a beautiful piano smack in the middle right when you enter. They had a wonderful pianist singing and playing Pink Floyd. I was impressed. We sat right at the piano and were able to utilize it as a bar for our drinks. There's a bar right next to it and a seating area with views of the lake. The ambience was loud, upbeat and busy which normally would be fine but it's just been awhile since we've seen this in a restaurant in 2020, so we were a little surprised. We are both from out of state (IL and WA) and it seems Wisconsin does their own thing. After the initial shock we settled in for some great food. The shrimp and pork chops were delish. The restaurant is way overrated and given it's our first time in Lake Geneva and it's our first restaurant here so far, if this is what people rate here as 4/4.5 (google), we're screwed. 3 stars cause the cheese curds were actually delicious as well as the Caesar salad, and minestrone soup. They got it down with the starters. Unfortunately, their "best seller" the ribs although it tasted good, they were pretty dry and not tender at all. My husband got the ribeye and according to him, it was cooked right, but you could tell the quality of the meat isn't there. It's tough and it didn't taste like anything as if it wasn't seasoned at all. Shout out to Nora though as she was a great server! read more

Three couples from NJ and TX met up with a Midwest couple who wanted to share a Friday night Fish Fry event! It was snowing and the outside igloos were inviting especially with the light snow falling but it was just a little too chilly. We all enjoyed two baskets of the cheese curds, which were classic Wisconsin fare that were consumed before we dug into the walleye and perch. I'm glad that my wife was gracious enough to share several spoonfuls of the clam chowder. The only thing missing was the opportunity to see the ice castles across the lake as the winter hasn't really hit there yes even though it was mid January. read more

I ordered a ruben sandwich....it was pathetic......the bread was blackened on the grill...not gently toasted ..... ..mediocre amount on the corned beef ...which was not hot... and about the equivalent of one tablespoon of sauerkraut on one side... not even centered....I asked for more sauerkraut...and they bring me a one " once" cup with cold kraut....for what is supposed to be a "hot" sandwich.....I expected at least two inches thick of corned beef hot...and at least an inch of kraut on top......I sent it back to the kitchen....obviously they don't know how to make it .........so a few weeks ago I ordered the duck.....the bartender said oh yes it is definitely one of my favorites...it was dry like shoe leather...he is another example of someone who does not know what good duck is.....I would not recommend this place ...for food....it is just slap stick....they just lost my business ......no apology with a oh well ...don't care attitude..... read more

NICE Traditional Wisconsin dining . Loud, friendly and busy. The food was just ok. Hubbs had the chicken special, I had the Ribeye. The chicken was over cooked and instead of it being crispy, it was very hard to chew. My steak was decent, no complaints. If the chicken wasn't over cooked, I presume it would have been a lined with the more positive reviews. Service was good, and our wait staff Sam was very friendly and helpful. All in all we would give this establishment another try. But will avoid the chicken. Seems like a fun pkace to bend an elbow and take in some music from the piano man when he is playing. read more

This place does NOT follow State mandated Covid precautions. The woman at the bar had no face covering, nor did the waitress. We witnessed a young man entering the kitchen carrying a stack of towels from some other space without a mask. We could "forgive" the people at Mars because they were eating and/or drinking but except for a few people sitting outside they were at back to back tables, no social distancing. We Love Mars and have been going to this beautiful restaurant set on Lake Como for over 30 years. We have had many wonderful meals here but never had the fish fry until last night. WOW, it was fantastic!!!! The fried Cod was very lightly dusted not a heavy breading it was cooked to perfection came to the table hot, fish was flakey and just wonderful. It is so nice to see Scott meeting his guests and truly cares about the experience everyone has at Mars Resort. They have a wonderful staff that all work so well together it doesn't matter how busy they are. Always a treat to visit and see the gorgeous sunsets. Bring on summer!!! read more

We drove from 45 minutes away and the drive was worth it. The food was good as was the service. The owner came over and asked how everything was and thanked us for coming. Mars has been around forever, and their interior shows to that. The decor is dated and the dim lighting does not add to the appeal. As for their food, you get what you order. Nothing fancy. They start you out with a basket of crackers and cheese spread, which is greatly appreciated. The entrees on the menu seem pricey, but their portions are quite large. The greatest part of the entire place is the view. You are sitting right on the lake and it's gorgeous to watch the sunset. If you're looking for a casual dive, check Mars out! read more

In our opinion, this restaurant is NOT considered a supper club in normal Wisconsin style. No rolls, no breadsticks, no relish tray, no salad bar, no au jus for steaks and mediocre Old Fashioneds. Although my steak could be cut with a fork, it was dry and the taste was about the same as Outback Steakhouse. Only choice i had to make it less dry was A-1. We sampled some dry rub ribs. They were not terrible but did not really wow us as we thought they would have since the history mentions that the same rib recipe has been used for 30 years. We noted a gentleman next to us that ordered the fried chicken. The chicken looked extremely greasy and we heard him say it was the worst chicken he ever had. The one plus we will give is that all the staff was very polite and welcoming. But, not sure we will visit again unless it is just for a drink. read more

The food is amazing, but everyone knows that. I want to tell you about the service. Our waitress, Jessica, was truly the best waitress we have ever had in our lifetime. We had my special needs sister with us. Jessica talked to her like a regular customer, complimented her on her nails, and made her feel important. In my 53 years of going places with her, this is a first. And her service was pretty amazing also. This has a Wisconsin style supper club feel located on Lake Como. The food is very good so it can get very busy. There was over an hour wait when we went. I had the bbq ribs and steak fries. Loved the bbq sauce. Outdoors, there is a bar, seating and often live music by the water. Arrived late Friday afternoon for an early dinner. We were taken to table next to a window overlooking Lake Como . Gorgeous. Drinks were promptly served and a salad and cup of soup arrived about 10 minutes later. Our server Stephanie was excellent and very attentive. Soon after we finished our soup and salad our entrees arrived. My wife had ordered the grilled chicken with potato pancaked and I was served the fried walleye with a baked potato and coleslaw. The simple salad was the highlight of my wife's grilled chicken dinner. The 1/2 chicken was possibly slightly undercooked showing some pink at the joints which makes my wife squeamish. The potato pancakes weren't freshly made and just okay. My deep fried walleye had a nice light breading or batter but I wish the skin had been removed. I love fish skin when it's got a light flour coating, pan fried and is crispy but under breading or batter the skin is creepy and limp, a bad feel in your mouth. The sides were the stars of my meal, baked potato and the coleslaw. I will order the coleslaw at every return visit however we most likely will never order the walleye or chicken again. We give this dining experience 4 stars only because of the great server and the fabulous views out the windows. The food overall was disappointing at this visit but we'll come back for the lake views and to try some of the other dishes. PS: We took the chicken home with us and the next day made some delicious soup out of it. read more

It's a shame that some restaurants do not take reservations. Got there at 1pm on the weekend as was told the wait was at least an hour. Decided to eat outside at the picnic table instead. Waitstaff was friendly but terribly shorthanded. The smaller outdoor menu had around 7 meals to choose from, but were told they only had 3 to choose from that day. They didn't even have the drink I asked for. Chicken sandwich was good, the cheeseburgers were good although their cheese was some kind of spread - think kaukana cheese ball. Outdoor was a nice location. The only time I'd return would be on a boat, off hours. read more

Figured we should probably order right away as it was apparently overwhelming for the serving staff. We ordered sandwiches that took 65 minutes to come. The reuben sandwiches were not hot, cheese not close to melted- and all the sides were not as ordered. The disappointing thing is not even the staff were required to mask up, its as if CoronaVirus didn't happen here. One dinner was their special which was a Schnitzal with which creamy sauce over a German pasta snd it was excellent. Our other dinner was BBQ Ribs (house speciality, old restaurant recipe). This would be a 5-Star if the waitress/service wasn't so terrible. She doubted our drinks were not made correctly and tasted like water (including the kids drinks). Once remade they were perfect. She also told us she has been a bartender for 30 years and she knows how to make drinks, and seemed very upset when we complained. And I am not one to complain. I also asked her to put our bill on a separate check from the other people we were with, twice, the 2nd time I asked she said "yes, I have this handled, I know what I am doing" and then at the end, she brought only 1 check. This place was a riot. It's well off the beaten path of the Lake Geneva craziness. The atmosphere is simply fun, and places like this need to exist. There was a woman playing the piano and singing, and there are several seats around the piano bar. I would suggest trying to sit there if you can! Several patrons took the mike and sang their own tunes, but I gather these folks are regulars and have been "blessed" with the right to sing. The staff is very nice, even to the visiting FIBS. :) The food was OK, they are known for their ribs, and they are fairly good. I had their fried chicken and it was just OK. The place is super busy on weekends, especially summer ones so get there early or belly up to the bar and wait. It's not a big place at all, so sitting a large group could be difficult. Overall I recommend this place for the atmosphere, not so much the food though. read more

What a complete disappointment, having heard such good reviews about a place and traveling over an hour to experience this supper club for our friends birthday , let me tell you , don't make the trip... there are so many other places in Lake Geneva with way better food and better service , the service at Mars was one of the worst I've ever experienced in a restaurant, we waited over two hours before getting seated where we had reservations, we had a small lap service dog that we had papers for her, and showed that to Manager and he was OK with it and after ordering appetizers he told us we all had to leave , at this time we couldn't get another reservations anywhere in the area due to the time. We got to the inside and ask if we could go outside on the patio. Place not busy at all. We went out on the patio and there were two open tables. We took the smaller table and ask for two craft beers. After getting them the server ask us if we wanted to order food. We said not yet we just wanted a couple drinks. She came back again a few minutes later and asked again we said not yet we will order more drinks when we finish these. She came back again and we said as soon as I finish my beer we will order a couple more! Next the old lady hostess came out and asked if we could move to another smaller table in the full sun so they could seat people who wanted to eat at our table. COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS! Use Caution on the Igloo Experience = you have 1.5 hours to have drinks, dine, and get the heck out, which seems like plenty of time, but it isn't. Fun, but disappointing too since we had to be rushed out for the next group. Service was inefficient for dinner dining. I would suggest just drinks and appetizers. 2 hours would be better to make up for the slow disorganized service. Food was great, drinks great. Waitress stressed and trying to keep up.
