I placed a pick up order tonight for a caesar salad with shrimp added. The total of the salad was $35 and when I got home I opened up the box to this. It had maybe three pieces of lettuce and looked nothing like what was posted on instagram. I am not one to complain, but when I called the receptionist, she became hostile, claiming that they she was nice enough to add an extra piece of shrimp, another concern was raised that someone who is at the front of the house, handling menus is then handling my meal, then she proceeded to hang up the phone. Then after I got hung up on, I called back and requested to speak with the manager, Todd. I could literally go cast my net and catch the shrimp and provide you a better meal off the dock than what your $35 box consisted of. Todd was not accommodating and had no explanation for why my order was $35 for a piece of lettuce and a few pieces of shrimp. Also to mention, my friend went two weeks ago to get oysters with her friend and she was so ill and sick from the oysters after. I am extremely disappointed that this restaurant comes off as high end dining, but we have now had two horrible experiences here. DO NOT GO HERE OR YOU WILL BE SCAMMED!!!!! I could literally grow my own lettuce and catch my own shrimp from the water and have it be better quantity and quality than this sad excuse of a restaurant. read more

We made a reservation on open table and came in on Saturday night. The Marsh House was full and many people were dressed up for the night - maybe heading to a fundraiser Later? Don't know but the atmosphere was dressy with people having a good time. Looking out onto the street with other restaurants and bars was fun The menu is not large but has several seafood and non seafood items. I started with the pear and arugula salad. It was fantastic. Just the right amount of dressing with walnuts cranberries and cheese added too. I ate every drop. My husband had the redfish for dinner and I had the mahi mahi Both were excellent choices. Mine was seasoned with something a little spicy and the redfish came with Lima beans and seasoned just right too. We were too full for something sweet after but the small menu was tempting. Loved our happy hour visit last week. Great service and atmosphere. we went for the "Oyster Happy Hour", had the gumbo (one of the best I've ever had), drinks and wine. Warning: The $1.75 Oyster Happy Hour pertains to only ONE type of oyster. Others on the menu ranged from $4-$6 each!! Our server failed to "share" this with us and we ended up with a tab of over $500! I came to Marsh House for my birthday dinner. I have never been here before but it hails a one of my husband's favorite Nashville restaurants. Upon, arrival we were promptly seated. On the walk to our table the hostess asked if we were celebrating anything special. I let them know that we were celebrating my birthday dinner. When our server arrived to greet us she asked me to save room for dessert as she would have something special which thought was so nice. For drinks I had a very nice glass or 2 of red. I wasn't sure what wine I wanted and the server was very knowledgable and was able to make recommendations. For appetizers we ordered the shrimp toast and the crab rivogote. Both I highly recommend! For entrees, I ordered the squid ink garganelli w/ scallops and my husband ordered the duck confit. Both were amazing. For my complimentary dessert I ordered the cheesecake which was scrumptious! A great place for dinner. We made reservations and the place seemed pretty empty, so I think that, like everywhere nowadays, they're short staffed. Our server was on the ball and made great suggestions and explained anything we had questions about. It's a clean, open space with windows all around to watch the going's on of downtown behind the quiet of the building. All our drinks were great; I like sweet drinks where you can't taste the alcohol and the Ghostwood was perfect. We started with the BBQ shrimp, which were fantastic; very full of flavor. The person who had the fried chicken at our table said it was delicious and juicy, and there was plenty of it. We shared the cavatelli and seared scallops. The cavatelli was creamy and amazing. The scallops were perfectly seared and the mint sweetened them flawlessly and the puréed peas were spectacular. Everything was wonderful and we can't wait to return. read more

When we walked in 5 minutes later, they were able to seat us in the dining room. Acoustics were perfect (who else hates yelling in a restaurant?), including the music. Had a great snack here before a TPAC show last night. Didn't want to be too full, but wanted to have some wine before we went of course! Started with some cocktail shrimp. They were very fresh and came with extra horseradish so you can adjust the sauce yourself - I loved that touch. Then had a Caesar salad which had delicious light and fresh dressing. My friend had the Brussels and said they were good too. The wine was expensive but worth it. I had a Sauvignon Blanc by the glass that was to die for. I wrote down the name so I can drink it at home. The decor and ambience is very chic. The champagne bongs are super fun and great way to spice up a date night. I highly recommend the shrimp toast and pork belly appetizers. The chicken gumbo, steak and spinach bucatini are all great entrees. Upon arriving we weren't sure what we were up for , as there were very few people in the restaurant. We decided to do a meal of small plates to try as many options on the menu as possible. The Bluepoint and Baywater oysters were outstanding. We had the Ahi tuna appetizer, which was pretty good, although it was a very small portion. Our favorite thing on the menu was the barbecue shrimp, which has a very tasty broth to dip your bread. The gumbo was OK but I've had better. Every course was hot when it arrived to our table, which never happens. Overall, I would go back again. This is a great spot for a date. read more

3 stars for the overall value: Marsh house is my favorite place for Nashville brunch and I've been living in Nashville for 4 years. I feel it's necessary to highlight the good experiences I've had there- but I was so disappointed in the experience tonight that I'm not sure I will return. Today was the first time I came for dinner with my boyfriend and my dad who was visiting from up north. I feel like our server was sweet, however she definitely "new yorked" the guest as we used to say (as someone who worked in a Five star restaurant in Nashville for two years). I'll explain. I ordered the "house cab" to just get a glass of red wine. I worked a total of 14 years in fine dining and would always make it a point if the "house" wine was expensive, to let the guest know (the menu does not clearly state wines by glass). The house wine was $20.00. And I ordered a second glass- not knowing until receiving the bill. My boyfriend ordered a shrimp and risotto dish which cost $30.00 or more. One of the shrimps still had the inedible guck sort of mess inside and when telling the server about the issue she said "sorry" and just took the plate away without offering anything else or even getting a managers attention. Anyways- usually good food and service! I'm sad that this experience was so far from what I've experienced and sort of just left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

I recently moved back to the Nashville area. I wanted to try new restaurants in the area, especially since I live in the gulch and there are amazing restaurants in walking distance in every direction. Marsh House is located inside of the Thomson Hotel in the Gulch, which as some of you may know it's difficult to find parking in the gulch which is why I'd like to point out - valet parking is free until 3pm on weekdays when you're dining at Marsh house (winning). The food is impeccable. SOOOOO DELICIOUS - especially their cinnamon roll that is made, as well as served, in a cast iron skillet! I went back a second time in the same week, yes...guilty (no shame), for a second cinnamon roll. I live right down the street so I'll definitely be back for a third and forth and fifth time. Also the staff - from the moment you meet the valet out front, to the friendly hostesses, to the amazing wait staff - are super friendly and welcoming, you will be more than happy with your experience. Once Beth approached our table, she was attentive the entire time and I couldn't of asked for better service. She was around an appropriate amount of time, I personally don't like when waitresses hover and she did not. She was genuinely friendly, knowledgeable, and encouraged us to enjoy ourselves. Sometimes at restaurants of this caliber the staff can be pretentious. This was not the case AT ALL and everyone made us feel at ease. Beth far exceeded our expectations and her recommendations on pastries were spot on. Restaurants service was A+! To have experiences like this is why I splurge on food. This is definitely going to be regular place I visit. My mother will be visiting in the summer time and this is definitely the spot I will be taking her. I think it really highlights the beauty of Nashville; both in southern hospitality and southern cuisine. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! read more

I was THRILLED when she invited me to Marsh House for brunch because I've been dying to go and she was wanting to see things in action outside of the kitchen so we made a Sunday morning of it and IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! First y'all let's talk about the atmosphere! Omg. Old meets new, mid century modern meets comfy vintage vibe that makes you want to order an Old Fashioned and sip it as you sit back in that comfy chair and pretend you're in a Mad Men episode. Brass accents, natural wood, modern lighting, leather bench seating so soft and lux that you wanna stay a bit longer even when you're finished. The natural light streams in from every angle and bounces off the perfect blue and green color palette. As a street/food photographer I'm dead set dying on getting in there when it's empty and just snapping away! Ok ok enough about the dreamy atmosphere... LETS GET TO THE FOOD!! I was so fortunate this time to meet the Executive Pastry Chef of this beautiful restaurant, Lisa White. Since I was dining with a member of her team she was kind enough to send out a plate of absolutely delicious mind blowing pastries! What an amazing treat and privilege! I was blown away by the sheer genius of the flavor combinations, blueberry corn muffin, creme brûlée croissant with a sugared crust, a blueberry pecan donut with pecan pie streusel on top...y'all I dreamt of this after eating it! To top it all off she added one of their yummy fluffy soft biscuits, it was honestly the best biscuit I've had in Nashville. Saving the most incredible for last....A CAST IRON CINNAMON ROLL!!!! This cinnamon roll should be ordered at EVERY table, it is slap your mama, drown yourself in butter and icing good!!! It's fluffy, creamy, oooey & gooey magic in a cast iron skillet! I am not a sweets person (Total salty B here) but I would eat that over and over again and call myself converted! Following the pastry fest I ordered simple scrambled eggs and bacon. I shouldn't say simple scrambled eggs because perfect scrambled eggs are anything but simple and these were creamy perfection and the bacon was thick cut and cooked perfectly. It was a great way to make myself feel like I didn't just eat a whole plate of pastries and a giant cinnamon roll lol. My friend ordered the Avocado Tartine. There was nothing basic about this avocado toast. They use Dozens sourdough bread and top it with a dill avocado smash, garnished with lemon yogurt, sofrito, and fried Shallots. It was a true piece of food art on a plate. She also got a bowl of the gumbo and next time that is on my list because it looked and smelled incredible. I cannot wait to go back to Marsh House and bring my husband. I felt so creatively inspired by the atmosphere and the food, it was truly a wonderful experience! While I may be in the minority in that I am not impressed with the Thompson Hotel (We went last year as a staycation for my bday and wow, what a let down), Marsh House, never fails to impress. I've become a regular at Marsh House happy hour the past couple of weeks. Happy hour is Wednesday - Friday from 5pm to 7pm. They have a limited happy hour food menu that changes week to week, but the $1 oysters are always on there. Their latest menu had chive pancakes and chorizo sliders. The chive pancake honestly wasn't that great, but the sliders were yum. The oysters are always a hit each week, but I noticed some weeks the oysters are bigger than others. Another week I came and had Korean hot chicken sliders and fried pickles/jalapeños. The sliders were a bit salty, but the chicken was super tender. The fried pickles/jalapeños were solid. We also had a side of the garlic parmesan fries, which are super addicting. One week we also ordered the Squid Ink Creste di Gallo which was amazing! It was creamy, savory, and I really loved the pasta they used. Also be sure to try a "happiest chambong" while you are there. Is basically what it sounds like, champagne in a bong shaped glass. I'm not sure when they will stop this happy hour deal so go while you can! Not to mention their service is always great. read more

One of the best dinners we have had in a long time. Very sleek, comfortable surroundings. Our server, Jeremy, was helpful, attentive, and personable. And the food was over the top delicious: the 4 of us split a dozen raw oysters from 3 different locales, loved them all. For my wife, who has IBS, they seared scallops in butter, served with wilted greens. Our daughter-in-law had the pear, arugula, and bleu gouda salad followed by the beef cheeks with grits, fennel, mushrooms, and leeks. Our son had the duck with turnips. And I had the redfish with ham broth and butterbeans. We had an excellent Spanish red, espressos, and a toffee and spice cake dessert. Every bite of every dish was exceptional! We ordered the Pirogue tower (as pictured) and the oysters were pretty fresh. The crab ravigote was splendid, I would recommend ordering this as an additional side dish, since the portions are fairly small. They have a decent selection on wine and mixed cocktails (we ordered the high talker). Also, if you have time, check out La Jackson upstairs. Sat at the bar for dinner and enjoyed good service and not so good food. The grouper was rubbery and not good at all. It did not taste fresh. I ate it but it wasn't good. The shrimp entree didn't taste fresh, either. I eat seafood on a regular basis, often in New Orleans and Maine and the seafood was very, very disappointing. The dozen oysters that I ordered were good but the mignonette sauce was not traditional and sullied the taste of the oysters. Might give this place one more try.
